My grandparents used to have a German shepherd. My mom was worried how the dog would react to baby-me and didn't let the dog near me. But the dog ended up sleeping outside the room's door to protect me, which was honestly adorable
I have a German shepherd and I cannot describe her as smart. She runs head first into walls, and doors, faceplanted into the floor just today. She also has the hearing of a deaf person. She is the most adorable looking yet stupid-looking dog on this earth and she is my baby. Oh right, she is a dog-shaped cat apparently. She loves laser pointers and cat toys more than her ball. If I could put photos in a comment, I would show how absolutely beautifully stupid she is. I love my baby.
"What group of people sound really aggressive but are really nice?" Story time: when I was in grade 10, our (Canadian) high school had a German foreign exchange student. For some reason my school thought it would be a great idea to put this kid who was brand new to the country, let alone to the school, in front of all of us to tell us about himself. He decided to have some fun and started speaking German. We were all super confused for a minute or two, then he stopped and switched to English. "I said, "Hello, My name is Johannes and I wanted to show you what German sounds like when it isn't being yelled."" I don't know if someone told him we had never heard German except in History class, seeing clips of Hitler but dude was absolutely right lol none of us had ever heard German spoken normally. Love the skit. Das Shepard made me cackle.
Yeeeeeees, the famous "Hollywood German": Sounds like growling and barking. Very similar to "Hollywood Russian": Growling, barking and a throat infection.
@@unterdessen8822so true!!! Every time people insist that German is a "scary sounding language," I tell them, "Verzeihung, aber ich hätte gerne ein Brötchen mit Butter..." or something like that. Because everything is scary when it's screamed at you and it's worse if you don't understand the language. It isn't scary at all when used normally.
@@Nariasan Exactly. Think of where people usually get to hear German and in what context: H*tler speeches and Hollywood villains. And those villains are in most cases actors, who don't speak German, so they try to compensate by being extra loud and aggressive. Of course that sounds horrible and robotic. Think, on the other hand, of dialects like Swabian or Saxonian, that are just hilarious to listen to.
@@unterdessen8822 lol, I find Swabian adorable. I myself am from the Allgäu Region in Upper Bavaria... I have a bit of a dialect and have to concentrate hard to speak neutral Hochdeutsch 😅
@@Nariasan I'm actually quite comfortable with the dialect. I've spent some time in Lenggries when I was younger. It's sad that they don't have the mule station at the bottom of Brauneck mountain anymore.
I was born in America but my parents are German. It’s honestly kind of funny how contrasting their voice is to their words when they speak. They sound aggressive but they’re couldn’t possibly be more kind 😅
Little thing I noticed and thought was cool: Das is a form of the word for ‘the’ in German, so him calling a GERMAN shepherd, ‘DAS shepherd’ is pretty cool.
"Das shepherd" is btw a pun, a homophone to be exact. In german, you can say "das scheppert" meaning "that crashed, and was really loud while doing so."
Even thought you had me laugh at this (I love puns), I think this is a referece to the German Volkswagen commercial. It ends with "DAS Auto", meaning that the car (Auto is the German word for car) is a must-have. Volkswagen is DAS Auto (THE car) and Shepherd is THE dog.
Those limpid brown eyes seep into my soul every time. I can confirm that GSDs are everything you and god arranged. One of mine was such a force for good that nearly 30 years after his death (Nov. 20th, 1995) there is still a charity fund in his memory at his vet's office. All dogs are wonderful, but GSDs have a special place in my heart.
@@extremchiller410 here’s your friendly neighborhood german about to explain their language: we have a more complicated article system. Das is neutral, der is male, die is female (it can also be mixed up in the plural forms). Shepherd = Schäfer = male = der -> correct would be der Shepherd. Here the dog is called deutscher Schäferhund (= german shepherd dog) because we like to give specific names 😅
“They can hear everything you say” as a German Shepherd Dog owner this is so true except for when they are barking then it is almost impossible to have them listen to you😂❤❤ But rly they are so loud 😊
@@thenovicegamer007idk if this was intentional but you could also pronounce it as "das scheppert" which is a rather uncommon German expression to the effect of "this is smashing it", so in that case the new dog is smashing it
I have the goodest girl ever!!! Roz’s radar dishes are amazing. She hears everything! My sister once said my dog is so sweet, but asked if she has two brain cells to rub together because of her goofiness.... Roz stopped playing and stared her down for the next few minutes to answer her question. 😂

I use to have a German Shepherd who loved children and was very protective of them. He's gone now, he had to be put down at 15 (or 16, he was a rescue so we never knew his real age but we know it was 15-16 when he went). He would stand by any small child and sit and watch them. He also prevented them from getting close to the water (living on the coast) if they had no one around them. He was very well behaved and just a big scary teddy bear.
I have a German shepherd and she loves people. She would never bite anyone. People are just scared of her because she tries to greet them but she gets a bit over excited and starts barking and jumping around. She is the sweetest dog ever. She's 11or 12 now and is still as active as ever. (The only problem is that she tries to attack small animals i.e birds, ducks, rodents, and iguanas) she also begs for attention by rubbing her wet nose against your arm and whining.
I had a German Shepherd for a couple of years when I was a little tyke that was just the sweetest gentlest thing and very protective of me and my sister. She definitely influenced my choice of dogs at a young age and I wouldn't have it any other way.
My nana had a german Shepherd, najed pepper She got blind around 14 years, and dued when she was 16 She wasva lovely dog, and crossed her paws when comfortable
My first dog was a german Shepard, I was 4yo and I still remember how soft he was, how he carried me around on his back and how much I loved him. And how my father gave him away so suddenly. I´ll never forget him....
Did we share dads? I have that same exact story! My parents told me they gave our german shepherd dog away a day after my father gave our dog Away!!! Ugh.. so i never got to say goodbye. I was 8 yrs old.. never forgot that!
@@ny_gsdluver6227 Maybe lol. I dont understand the reasoning behind all this, right?. The saddest part is it happened a second time when I was 14.... no comments. @Radu Tutulea oh no! Very sorry to hear that! Although my dad went to visit the dog a month later.. dog saw him from across the street, ran out & was hit by a truck. ;( What happened to your dog ?
I too will gladly take the compliment of "You sound mean, but you're actually really nice". Still don't think we Germans sound rude though. (Also, who's up for a slight bit of trolling to the unlucky monolingual Americans by only writing in perfectly constructed, grammatically superb English in this comment thread, despite the fact it isn't our native language?)
I'm German and my grand uncle was a police dog trainer. When I grew up he was already retired but he had a giant German shepherd which was just as well trained as a real police dog. He was giant and fluffy and the bestest boy and I loved him a lot. RIP Arko ❤️
@@notoriousbig3k what? That's incorrect because it does indeed effect your mental psyche. I used to babysit a 3-year-old who had a German Shepherd. Whenever we left the house, that dog would walk so close to the child that they were touching, but never actually bumped into him. He barely twitched an ear when I arrived in the mornings though - I only had to be introduced once. He always looked relaxed, but if the wrong person had ever tried to get near that kid, I'm not sure they would have survived the attempt. He knew who was allowed around his little boy and who wasn't. He was beautifully trained too. Great recall off-lead. A very good boy.
My neighbors that were like my family had an old German shepherd dog, he wasn't trained but he was very protective of me. We always walked in front of the pack very proud
DONT MOCK MY GOD YOUVE BEEN WARNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My friend had a German Shepherd. It ran screaming down the stairs when she let literally anyone through the door, it was embarrassingly racist, and it humped the legs of random strangers. So, we’re the same 😅
"and when he's five months old, for precisely one month, he will have one ear stuck straight up and one floppy, but he will still look at you with a serious face like he isn't the silliest boy you've ever seen"
YES my grandpa has a female German Shepard and she had puppy's a couple years ago I was about to die of cuteness they would chase us around on our scooters
My university included a police academy and some police students were also training police dogs. One of our neighbours had a puppy that was basically all legs and ears and once we spotted them returning home after a walk and the pupper just decided that ”I’m not walking anymore”, which ended with a very disgruntled dog dad having to carry the pupper the rest of the way home 😂
I had an all black German Shepard. He was so sweet and he was basically just a big goof. I’ll miss him Edit: Looking through the replies, I hope all our animals get to meet each other and play together in Heaven.
I wanted to hear how you did with the hiking. I was on the edge of my seat listening to this story. My heart sank. I wanted to cry for you. I hope you crushed that moubtain in your new boots. 🤚
I had a German Shepard, she was white and such a loyal dog. Is you can hear this, I ❤ you. I shed tears when I think about you. Have fun with your new owner. “ The grief never disappears, but it can get better. It’s like a scar. You cut yourself, fresh and bleeding. Over time, it gradually becomes a scar, not completely gone, but a little reminder of that memory.”
Thanks so much! That means a lot. She wasn’t doing so well. She couldn’t walk. So we did the right thing. She had a red eye, and it kind like, rolled up, in a way, so it was like putting in a contact that was all red. She had a white spot on her nose, and the day she got put down, I texted my friend to tell her and all she said was “ Ok. So anyway as I was saying *Yap yap yap yappy yap yap”* And I also learned that she was toxic. Worst day of my life, and forever will be…
I used to have a German shepherd named Jake, sadly we had to put him down due to age, but from what I can remember, this is true, we barely even trained him and he was loyal, strong, smart, and affectionate. He would sit in my dad's lap (he was NOT a lap dog), taught himself to turn door knobs, and would stay by me and my sister when we were little. He was the best dog ever, R.I.P. buddy, I miss you.
The radar ears is so true. My Etta will alert to things I don't hear. If she is at the side fence annoying the neighbor dog, I can call her from inside the closed house and she hears me. The doggie door gets a workout.
God's reaction to Das Shepherd was exactly my sister in law's reaction to seeing her late German shepherd, when she was still a puppy. It was love at first sight. My sister in law still tear's up when seeing pictures of her beloved Keera. And honestly so do I ❤️.
@JacksonStainesThomasonKnightSad to see a grown person wasting their time writing these kinds of comments. Buy hey, if you dont have a life, you have a lot of time to waste. 🤦♂️
“What group of people sound really aggressive but are actually nice?” “Germans?” 😂😂 it’s very true. I dated a guy from Germany in college and he always sounded so aggressive when talking to his parents and then immediately after he hung up, it was back to normal (my normal anyway). He was easily the sweetest man I’ve ever known and still talk to him to this day ❤
When i was a child, my grandpa hated dogs, but he would visit his brother twice a week if he was home or not. After a few months he noticed a german shepherd puppy always outside, one week during a thunderstorm with no shelter he stole the dog, his name was Barkley and he was atubborn as hell but my grandpa gave him eggs every morning and steak bones twice a week cause he had a guy, he unfortunately choked on a t-bone and died but i loved that pup (he was 10 when he passed so he lived a really good life)
As long as he's in a training program, you'll have a top notch dog. With breeds like these, training isn't an option. Also, do yourself a favor and get all the stuff for pet hair you can while he's young. Or else you'll be drowning in dog hair when he gets bigger.
Mine is 10 months and he got big so fast, he is about 95lbs now. He is the sweetest and still does that clumsy ear puppy head tilt and it melts my heart ❤️
I got attacked by the same German shepherd three times on separate occasions, and I got really sick after he attacked me. Now I’m terrified of that dog
My first dog was a German shepherd, absolutely hated other dogs, and basically all other animals, but was the most sweetest thing. RIP Samson may you rest well up in doggie heaven.

God loved the german sheperd so much, he made five hundred more different sheperd's variations.
And failed to create such beauty as the German Shepard.
"What group of people sound really aggressive but are really nice?"
Story time: when I was in grade 10, our (Canadian) high school had a German foreign exchange student.

"Das shepherd" is btw a pun, a homophone to be exact. In german, you can say "das scheppert" meaning "that crashed, and was really loud while doing so."
Thank you for explaining! Cuz I didn’t get the joke.
I didn't get it either but thought it was just an exclamation! 😊
Gotta love it when a joke has multiple layers like that. Enjoy it on whatever level you like, so long as you enjoy it.
On its face it's incorrect grammar anyway. It would be DER shepherd, not DAS.

He also prevented them from getting close to the water (living on the coast) if they had no one around them. He was very well behaved and just a big scary teddy bear.
