If you have any other potential games that have fanmade mods, patches or remakes that would be viable for "Hidden Potential" then be sure to tell me! I already have a list of 8 or so games I could do videos on but I'd be happy to receive more if you've got them.
@@maidenless_alan5136 The only problem I see with the first Watch Dogs is that you can play it like a badass action hero but the game never teaches or leans into this playstyle. Mechanically, it's combat has more going on than any Rockstar game does.
First I thought of was Wolfenstein 2009, which is much better with Wolf Redux v1.3. It raises it to a really quality game. You can get it off abandonware sites - I think it's a real shame that it's disappeared. I played it last year for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Speaking of Wolfenstein, I want to give a shoutout to Blade of Agony which is a fan game made in the Doom engine of immense proportions and really satisfying effects. My second example is Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. The GBA version has a 'Card Hack' mod which instead of making the cards (abilities) possible to get through RNG, instead puts them in well-placed spots around the castle. Likewise, its sequel Harmony of Dissonance has graphical mods that make it more enjoyable to play (it really makes a big difference). I think it's a good game anyway (in fact, one of my all time favourites), but each game in Akella's Sea Dogs/Caribbean Tales series has a massive enhancement mod for it. There are multiple ways to approach it, including a full engine remake. You can find them at the Pirates Ahoy community The New Horizons mod for Pirates of the Caribbean delivers close to the ultimate pirate fantasy. Just for background - this was a 2003 game made a tie-in at the last minute, but it was really going to just be Sea Dogs 2. I'd say the best two are POTC and City of Abandoned Ships as games. A bit old-hat but Mount & Blade Warband was made much better with the Floris mod and other overhauls (it wasn't the only one), touching across combat and management aspects of gameplay. There are of course total conversions too if you're a fan of a specific setting. I'm only holding back on this because Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord rebuilt the game so to include the best features of many of these mods. Of course, that too is a highly moddable game in its own right. I'm not sure if it counts as a mod as it's open source, but the fan continuation of Liberal Crime Squad is a very political (!) masterpiece that elevates it from satire to a fully brilliant management game. You literally manage a terror group. It is made by Tarn Adams, it was one of his last games before Dwarf Fortress and pretty unique in both theme and gameplay if you can get past the command line graphics! Along the same lines of open source continuations, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (postapoc open world roguelike set in New England) and Warzone 2100 (an once-commercial RTS game where you construct vehicles yourself, again post-apoc) are excellent. I think OpenTTD is also a really impressive example, it is technically an original game made from the ground up, but mimicking the original TTD and making an amazing engine with moddability, settings, multiplayer (!), the lot. For a lot of Japanese games, there are 'retranslations'. I'm focusing on these as obviously there are many full translations too. Final Fantasy VI and VII for example has had full retranslations into English which also fix several bugs. These are a little less interesting in my view but still add to the experience of their games for an international audience (and of course any audience which wants less bugs).
@@PokechaoDefinately had my eye on it for a good while Just waiting for it to be mostly finished (ie all core levels, story and the final boss stuff is stuff I don't need to wait for)
For P-06, I'm of the belief if there wasn't something already there in 06, I doubt it P-06 would be as good as it was. Too bad greed got the better of Sega, not giving the ever decreasing 06 team to actually finish the game. Also context to the ever decreasing team... Given that the Wii could not handle 06, Sega decreed an original title - Secret Rings (originally Wild Fire - would be made for the console, and so the 06 team was split into two. Then later, series producer, Yuji Naka, left Sega - or Naka more recently claimed, was fired - and while doing so, took a bunch of people from the 06 team with him. And I suppose the rest is history, 06 was basically sent out without a pair of pants to ridicule. I still had a good time with it though, on my first X-Box 360, when it came out.
@@DemonDethchase oh I knew that 06 got rushed out to meet the anniversary year but I didn't realise the team got split up, bloody shame it all happened like it did especially when secret rings is nothing to write home about Still think its funny how the most polished offical release of 06 is actually the 360 demo since the team got something like an extra 3 weeks or months of extra QA between the game going gold and hitting shelves
considering that during the capcom leak, the source code for DMC2 was explicitly leaked, I feel like someone insane enough could actually reverse engineer the whole game and turn it into an actual videogame like people did with Sonic 06
@@Kraftium who knows, DMC3,4 and 5 got full fledged online coop and 4 got custom difficulties, maybe somewhere out there even a devil may cry when he begins fixing DMC2
I remember being 13 or so, renting the hell out of DMC1 and having a blast. And when I finally scraped enough money to buy a game, I remember seeing DMC2 and thinking "I already played 1 and if 1 was good, the sequel's gotta be better, right?" Oh, the innocence of youth
Happens to us all I remember when I scaped together funds to get fire emblem fates special edition that had all 3 versions on 1 cart (payed almost double to a scalper) And what i got was mostly ass
@@Kraftium I feel your pain. I paid full price for Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 on PSP. And more recently, I bought Fire Emblem Engage on launch. That game was also mostly ass. Half of what I liked about 3H got thrown out or done worse.
@@alicevioleta3184 we don't know, some say it was a capcom vet from the arcade division who had no clue how to make console games some say it was an up and comer who couldn't handle the position others say it was someone outside of game dev (like a journalist or someone) who talked their way into the role thinking it would be easy
They had a really short Time to make this sequel. Capcom gave them only 6 months AND another 3 months because was imposible released it before the date so Is really impressed that they created a game in 9 months without bugs or glitchs in good part of Time in that age. While actual games are arriving with alot glitches AND bugs.
We had the same happening yesterday with me. Buddy said, "You know just play the hd collection now." I played Dmc1 so fast and really enjoyed it actually. Than I started dmc2, loved dantes design and the animation of everything on him. Than the mobs just came and came and you just shoot and shoot...
DMC 2 honestly deserves a full blown reimagining. Some of the ideas the game had were cool and carried over to later games, but its a shame that this game's potential and reputation is eternally marred by its troubled developement.
It had potential to be a horror action game because the art show like a gótic horror AND clasic . It only needed More Time sincerelly AND improve stuff.
I remember playing 1, 3, and 4 growing up, but it wasnt until i was like 17 that i realized "Hey, wait a minute! There's a 2 between 1 and 3 right? Why do i have NO idea what DMC 2 is like? Why have I never seen it talked about? If 1 is sick, 3 is sick, and 4 is sick, 2 must be a banger aswell!"
I love this idea for a series but the format could use some work. I like the idea of listing out what improvements were made to the game but imo the visual aren't doing a good job of illustrating what you're referring to. For instance if you're talking about a new launcher added to a combo you should show which one you're referring as you're talking about it. You could even go an extra mile and show the button presses at the bottom of the screen or compare it to the original combo in a split screen view. I don't normally leave comments but I love this kind of content and I think this series has real potential to become a favorite of mine.
I will admit I did kinda rush the editing for this since it had been over a month since my last video and YT doesn't like that (a bad habit to ik) and depending on the game having some more head to head comparisons would go a long way. I've got a few ideas of how I could push the boat out with some visual inserts for ones that I intend to do next Either way I appreciate the comment and I'll do my best to make the series the best it can be >:)
I actually like this game; hate me for it. I do believe the way the landscape and combat is, this installment would've been better suited for co-op and it probably would've been better received.
Agreed. I played it for the first time without knowing it was hated and it was fun other than a few boss fights. It also has the best Dante outfit of all time
Same here. When I first played DMC2, I thought it was pretty cool. Even if most enemies die fast, I still found it fun to engage in combat and I thought Lucia was a cool design. I actually enjoyed it more than 1 lol.
I would really love the Must Style mode if it was implemented on a style rank like the one from dmc 3 or 5, if you did a lot less dmg while a rank and below and normal in s-rank onwards, enemies had the health and damage from at least Son Of Sparda or DMD (if you could configure it in settings it would be way better), and it should be its own mode unlocked after beating normal campaign, i really look foward to something like this in dmc6, being it's own mode allows you to play or dont, your choice So glad you came back, i love your reviews, really good video, bro! Any chance you do something like Sonic Project 06? A mod that tries to improve the Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) game
the idea of style rank impacting gameplay is something really cool and not played around with much so having a must style mode intergrated into more games would be cool there are other things they've done with it tho, dante's quaddruple S skill in DMC5 vergils taunts having hitboxes at S rank, nero having a chance to gain exceed during his rev taunt, and crazy combos being longer and easier to extend at higher ranks in DMC3 but the one that I'd like to see return and adopted is the style rank shields from the ghost rider PS2 game where certain enemies have little force fields made of chains with a letter above them and you need to hit them while at that rank or higher to break off the shield to actually start doing damage also project 06 is definately on the list, I just want to wait for it to be finished before I cover it
DMC 2 introduced a couple of good mechanics, one of which was the Bloody Palace. The other mechanic I wished they kept was the DT/AT Medallion, so you could customize your Trigger Properties. What helped me with DMC 2 was after a while I found the disk system a lot like Resident Evil 2(Dante's/Leon's Story on Disk 1, Lucia's/Claire's story on Disk 2) I confess I was so used to "Play Disk one then disk 2, that I didn't figure that out until later.
Having already beat DMC2 three times (one for each playable character) this mod is really gonna make me reinstall and play again, huh? Ok, fine. Great concept for a video series. I seem to have a subconscious obsession with fan patches that "fix" old games
It has potential to be good and why I want Capcom to remake it. It's something that I'd like for some games that are bad which is to be remade so the devs can fix the biggest flaws, but I know that it's costly and will most likely even be a loss for them in sales.
"Aesthetically it's incredibly dull and drab" That makes me sad :c I love the way this game looks, it's like if they got the 'horror' themed parts from the 'Resident Evil' side of Devil May Cry 1, and just went full on gothic with it, it looks gorgeous c: Lucia's design is also absolutely beautiful, especially her Devil Trigger form ^u^ And the music? Don't even get me started! The Mission Start theme and Eye of the Wind (Lower Town) are some of my favorites, and I've listened to them for so long that it would probably rival some of the play time on a few of my Steam games :3
I'll be fair DMC2 has its moments, as I said gameplay wise it invented the gunslinger and trickster styles and it has its moments off good presentation, I like the look of ariaus's tower in the city scape afterall and dante and lucias designs are great. Its just as a whole the game is very brown or grey most of the time and its just ... ugh.
@@SalesmanWavethe HD collection looks like shit in general, I could pull this same argument with the pixelated ass background on the final boss from DMC3
You forgot something important; Voice actors. DMC2 was my favorite game of the entire DMC series growing up, and Lucia was my favorite character. But if they ever did a remake, who would voice her? So after some research, it hit me. Her name is Salli Saffioti, the voice of Mistral from Metal Gear Rising Revengence. How cool would that have been...
I mean I didn't forget it, its just not changed in the mod at all so theres nothing to talk about on that front that being said it is cool seeing the voice actor came back to play a very simular looking character
I guess i was the only kid who like the game back then. May be Dante is my one and only favorite game character, that is why. And in terms of looks/design, dmc2 Dante is my most favorite. His jump at the beginning from the building alone made me awe.
Always loved DMC2's Desperado inspired shooting animations. Also how he uses a pistol as backup for the RPG. There is kind of a realistic weight to Dante's attacks.... Doesn't suit the character, but I like the idea as a concept. And fixing flawed games is a concept I prefer over remaking already great games like Dead Space and the Crash Bandicoot games.
Hey, if it makes DMC2 palatable, that's already a huge improvement. I played through it twice. The first time had me yell "JUST END ALREADY" at the screen. It was so bad I decided to give the reboot a chance, deciding that it couldn't possibly be any worse than this (actually ended up loving the reboot all around, so thanks for that one, DMC2).
DmC is pretty good as long as you play the DE version (personally I like turing turbo and hardcore mode on too cos its a little slow, and I like the increased DT genorations) and you either skip cutscenes or play in spanish
If DMC2 ever got a remake I'd like it if it's main gameplay was gun combat like Lady's gameplay from DMC4 but more improved, it's also pretty much canon that Dante destroys the infected helicopters with guns too lol.
Holy shit Capcom, I almost didn't noticed, but man, they are using almost the a 1:1 art for the harpies in Dragon's Dogma 2 to the point I thought it was the same model, just higher res
Sorry I haven't had time to really respond until now. This is a great video. The fact that so many people wanted this game to be better than it was is a testament to how good the franchise really is. However, this game got Mummy Returns fate, where they had a release date before they even started filming. Believe it or not, that's how Brendan Fraser hurt his back and why he had to suspend his career for so long. Devil May Cry 2 is exactly why games need sequels. They no longer have to introduce the characters, they can put the features in that got left out of the first game, and they usually get a higher budget than the one that came before. Sometimes this makes for a better experience, and sometimes you get Xenosaga 2. This is exactly why I think the game industry needs sequels so much. I love Lost Dimension, but it would be so much better if it got a sequel. Mechanicus needs a sequel, and if Space Marine can get one, there's no excuse. Final Fantasy Tactics needs a true sequel that's not on a handheld and doesn't stink. Also, great choice of coat. Long coats are dapper and never go out of style. Big lapels are classic as well. Nothing is worse than seeing a TH-camr with a neckbeard and a filthy T-shirt. I swear there's some I can smell through the screen... Jealous of the hair though. I have none. Like, NONE. I even used my bald head as a gag in a book review video. It looks like an alien world up close. Cherish that fearsome mane as long as you can, because you know the old saying: "Hair today, gone tomorrow."
You've got me waxing nostalgia for 2 of my favourite films growing up talking about the mummy and the mummy returns serve. Sequels in games in particular are very interesting since they have a much higher rate of being better than the original than movies and books tend to After all it is a young medium and therefore the first game is usually finding its feet alot of the time and the second time round they can refine the gameplay and put more focus on stuff like the story and presentation now they've got a foundation to work off of I remember lost dimension very vividly as one of the games I was eyeing up when i was getting back into rpgs instead of just playing a ton of halo but sadly I never got it, the premise of it tho is super cool and I have a softspot for the team (they also did monark somewhat resently) I will say we tolerate NO tactics advance and/or tactics A2 slander on this channel, those games rule and you're comment has earned you a 10 second ban >:( My usual get up is the a flannel shirt and a hooded jacket of some sort, i actually own very few t-shirts since I find them uncomfy around the neck and i gotta be FREE but the trench coat comes out for special occassions I've luckily inherited my dad's genes and I don't do anything to it that could damage it (I find basic care keeps it healthy, doing too much will just yank it out) so I'll be keeping my mop for a long time (looking foward to being like DMC5 dante)
Please make Hidden Potential a series!!! This is one of my favorite topics in gaming. Theres so many games out there that deserve a second chance to be truly good
Oh I absolutely will don't worry, I had a list of like 6 or 7 games before this video went up and thats pretty much doubled with peoples suggestions (more so if you include ones that I think look cool but i'm not sure if I wanna play really) expect one every 2-4 months ish, its a fun series idea but I wanna avoid boxing myself in to any one thing (currently I got a video in the works and 2 review codes probably on the way over the next couple of months but I'll aim to do another hidden potential or 2 afterwards, already got some of the footage I need for both)
It’d need a complete overhaul from the ground up. We need to float this idea to Itsuno so we can see what DMC2 would’ve been like if he was in charge from Day 1.
I'm in the process of modding a lot of DMC mechanics into Kingdom Hearts 1, so it's really interesting to see the approach they took here with DMC2! Great video
*looks at user name* YOOOO its the creator of critical mix, I actually played one of the older versions and was really enjoying until I did a sequence break jump that caused sora to freak out a bit (it was fine at first but eventually more and more animations just became T poses and it had infected my save files) but I imagine that was a early build ps2 emulation bug I was actually going to do a video for it some time since I got the KH games on PC just this christmas for pretty cheap in a double sale (then the steam versions got announced) either way I had a gander at the nexus mods page and noticed its been updated and saw its got a new version out, I'll definately take a look at it (and that riku version that I'm just now learning about) at some point
@@Kraftium the next version is going super hard into the action game mechanics! Style switching with 2 versions of each style, launcher with controllable ascension, endless million stab, enemy step that can also be refreshed by clanking a wall which makes it feel kinda like DDD flowmotion, built in curated enemy randomization options, and a bunch of other new stuff
@@Xendra seeing all sorts of new UI elements like the style guage on the nexus page is making me pop off a little bit ngl This is definately the next one I'll be looking at for this series after the one I've already half started
this mod sounds fun im gonna check it out More seriously though, thanks for the review. I put some extra time into the table since the trailer available on my youtube channel, including some better JC behavior, an improved Stinger fix, and porting extra combat features from DMC4/5 (Inertia and Quad S). There's also more detailed settings options like key rebindings and customizable damage modifiers. There's also more Quality-of-Life features bundled in, including the ability to launch any mission at any difficulty regardless of unlock status. I've considered using the source code leak to make more aggressive changes to the game, but decided against it for essentially the same reasons outlined in the video (along with the obvious morality issues involved using that leak). I'm fairly happy with the state that DMC2 is in now, considering what's possible with assembly injections.
omg! its the guy, the most wanted And no problem, thanks for the mod itself its really cool! I did see some of those other stuff when playing around but desided to leave them out due to my yapping streaching out the video more than I'd like already (also stuff like inertia in dmc is beyond my understanding with DMC but its very cool never the less) I'd completely forgot the capcom leak included DMC2 source code and that certainly is an option but yeah the morality of it is shaky (i wouldn't blame anyone but I'd get why they'd feel guilty about it) and I think what you've done is more than enough to "fix" DMC2 also thanks for watching and commeting, I appricate it :D
As someone who forced himself to Platinum DMC2 so he would NEVER have to go back and play it again, this is making me a feel a mixture of joy that it's being fixed, and dismay that i might break my own word to myself. XD
In order for there to be something to fix it must exist. We of the imperium deny that such a thing ever existed for Holy Terra as can’t have an exterminatus to purge the sin we must simply erase the sin in it’s entirety from existence. Do not fret for you need not seek help for your.. troubles. We at the inquisition offer purification delivered without asking. Free of charge too! But we all know, the most expensive things in life are often free!
Few years ago I remembered remembering devil may cry and I was like "Oh yeah I've played all the dmc games a little as a kid I like DMC" so setup DMC2 because I never played it and was so disappointed didn't touch DMC until recently never knew anything about the game until I played it
wish they could rework the dmc2 story, because in all honesty there's a nice-looking skeleton of an idea in there, but the poor execution made it so it took me over 10 years to begin to appreciate it. the skeleton is there, but it's been smashed with hammers and needs serious restoration efforts.
I was today years old when I learned that DMC2 was made pretty much in 6 months. After talking with some friends, I realized DMC is one of the few franchises that I love that I DIDN'T look into the development history of, for whatever reason, so a lot of the info you mentioned is news to me. I also didn't know that Hideki Kamiya wasn't Hideki Itsuno and didn't actually touch DMC2 lol. I gotta do a deep dive into the franchise's history now lol.
This game had incredible atmosphere, movement mechanics, and design elements, I also really enjoy the stoic version of aged Dante more than what they went with in 4 and 5
I'm so glad 2 was the first DMC game I played, I thought it was the most badass thing I'd ever seen and was only more impressed when I tried 1&3 and found they played better.
You should totally cover Sonic P-06 next - one of the most infamously terrible games in the medium's history actually had the foundations of a solid game buried deep in it that fans have managed to fix
Incredible to see that gameplay can actually be improved. Not originally my idea, but I love a fan theory about the game's story that made it 100x better to me: DMC 2 Dante isn't actually Dante, but the doppelganger demon from DMC 3. It would tie up a lot of loose ends: -Why he's so out-of-character and emo, when he's a goofball before and after this game. It's not really Dante, it's a demon with no identity of its own, who simply copied the mannerisms and outer shell of Dante. But now, he's separated from Dante, and he's devolving back to his true self: an empty shell without personality. -The stupid Twoface coin flip BS. It's the demon trying to tell everyone that he's a copy of a good man. Yes, it's still stupid, but still better than Dante pretending he leaves people's fates to a coinflip for no reason. -Why Triss and Lady are never mentioned, and why Lucia never shows up again. She never met the real Dante, and the rest don't know where this Doppelganger is. -Why Dante never uses the doppelganger style after DMC3. He lost this demon. Maybe he rejected it since it didn't feel right having that copy inside of him, so it became autonomous and did things Dante would do: Help others with demon problems. -It even fits into the whole Devil-May-Cry theme of demons redeeming themselves by acting human. The doppelganger helps humans, because it's in his nature to copy others, and it happened to have copied Dante. -Most importantly: Why "Dante" goes to hell by the end of the game, only to pop back out afterwards with no explanation whatsoever. If we ever get a DMC 6 with Dante and Vergil in hell, you could even have an easteregg where they find the motorbike or maybe the coat from DMC2, and then they could muse about Dante having a copycat and him mentioning how he lost track of his doppelganger style a long time ago... That's all you need to establish this fan theory as canon and instantly give more sense to DMC2's story.
thats certainly an interesting theory personally I'm a fan of the pretty popular "dante is depressed" theory where after losing vergil his life becomes kinda boring and empty cos theres no one like him and he finds no challenge after killing mundus This helps explain his significantly more mellow attitude in the OG anime and its even more intense by 2 when he barely talks. Dante going to hell is one I personally love cos I like to think this is where his cameo in Shin Megami Tensei 3 takes place, its has the DMC2 dante design and his role in that story is he essentially helps train the Demi-fiend who is also a half demon (albeit one who used to be a full human) and as thanks for doing so lucifer gives dante an opitunity to return home and the idea that there are other people like him out there helps perk him up a bit so he's back to his normal self in time for DMC4
The funny thing is that mashing the button is not the easiest way to spam your pistols, you can just hold the button. At least it works on the PS version of HD Collection
If I could fix a game, it'd be Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. The combat system had potential to be one of the best ever. The story and game structure would need to be greatly redone to be great however. Resident Evil 5 would be another requiring new design/enemies/story to make it on par with RE4. 🤞the REmake does that. RE6 would need a story fix, skippable story segments, fewer explosions, and revamped weapons/health system, but there's bones for an amazing game beneath the muck.
I like this video and I really like the series idea, but I would strongly suggest against using background music with vocals if the focus of the video is what you're saying. As someone with ADHD, it makes the viewing experience a bit more difficult!
Most of the time I avoid using background music with lyrics (sadly a bunch of the best DMC music has them) I also usually mix the background music a bit lower but this time round I mixed it with head phones and realised the the background music was basically silent on speakers so I turned it up again and it seems i over compensated a little thanks for the comment tho, I'm glad you enjoyed it for the most part :)
Honestly this mod sounds like it does a better job being a proof of concept for if Lucia ever made another playable appearance than actually fixing DMC2. Which, in and of itself, is actually kinda fascinating to think about as the sole person on the planet who actually wants that to happen.
I do love seeing fans take games where the developers are/were unable to finish it (e.g., Sonic '06 and any of the Fallout games as well as Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines) and essentially help finalize the game into an approximate of its intended incarnation. It shouldn't be a thing, yet is heartwarming nonetheless.
I'm torn between DMC4 and Coatless DMC1 personally but I ain't gonna deny that the DMC2 design is sick (the diesel costume is pretty good too, just don't like the scarf)
@@Kraftium The way I see it, DMC4 is peak Dante. I love everything about his design, including his buff figure compared to previous games. I still prefer DMC1 because of nostalgia and its uniqueness, but DMC4 really nailed it.
Requires 3 playthroughs (1 with dante and lucia and then a 3rd with either on hard mode) and she unlocks along side DMD so its very understandable I knew she was in the game for a while but it was only a couple of years ago i found out she had dantes dmc1 moveset
If We Do get a DMC2 Remake. I Would Love for LUCIA to get a Ninja/Assassin Style Makeover with her Skills and Weapons! As Much as I love her Angelic Form. I Think her Being suited to a Ninja-Style Skill Set would make her more Fleshed out! For one! Think her Weaponry and Look all Hint at This! She uses Throwing Knives, Darts, Bombs, and a demonic Crossbow Gun (underwater). While her Blade Options are Just like Dante’s - They Suck. So, what I think would be cool for her to Get that Assassin/Ninjutsu Skillset would be for her to Create Combos and Counter Options During her Combat! What would be So Cool is if her Base Swords had Grapple Options! And when she gets her demonic Weapons, I’m hoping she’d get a Demonic Chain Sickle that gives her distance attacks and some crazy crowd control! Another Cool Demon Weapon I had in mind was her gaining Demonic Claw Blades or Leg Blades that she can use to increase her jumping and Aerial Combos with summersault Kicks! Cause she does have crazy Kick attacks!
Impressive, I kinda want to see lucia using her wings as attack skills. Leaving extra limbs such as tails in dt are a waste. She needs to fight like a Valkyrie in Gow. Grinding her blades, climbing on lesser demon and casting spells like lament of innocence would be amazing though. I'm emphasize heavily on climbing as a grab and throw like nero does. But with her feat as a grab she automatically goes airborne, holding and the lesser demon.
I think it'd be cool if the second disc of Xenogears got a romhack to properly flush it out. Originally, the game was going to be three discs, but the devs ran out of budget after the first disc. As a result, discs two and three got compacted into one disc that comprised of a boss rush combined with a cliffnote summary of the intended story. Needless to say, this really knocks down a game that is otherwise a masterpiece, and it'd be really nice if that story could be properly realized at some point.
Yeah that would be good for making enemies be slightly more durable punching bags, hard mode does make them more agressive and DMD gives them more health but it also increases their damage output and with the mods already existing multiplier on enemies its a little brutal
Im ngl I love dmc2, it's a guiltily pleasure of mine. It's the game my grandpa introduced me to the series with. But it was definitely a shock when i went to dmc3 and realized i couldn't spam square at everything😂
This sounds interesting, but all you really did was make me interested in that DmC "must style" mode, I have heard of it multiple times and it sounds like something I've been wanting out of the character action genre for years, it was something that I always wanted to widely implemented from that Ghost Rider game. Not sure how exactly works but I might look into the game for that. As for DMC2, this mod kind of sounds interesting and I am not sure I will play DMC2 again, I do sort of want to play it just to experience "bad games" to help me appreciate the good ones but at the same time, the game is so universally bashed that even calling it bad has become so boring. I get nothing out of insulting the game anymore. I get the idea of making DMC2 more in line with 3, 4 and 5 but at the same time, I think 2 had some interesting ideas with combat being heavily focused on guns and with melee being light, you could make an interesting play style out of this, and Strife from Darksiders Genesis is how I can picture it working, if you did this DMC2 would be more of a divisive game in the series rather than geniunely bad, and I take divisive over bad anyday of the week.
yeah must style is definatelly cool, if I remember correctly the ghost rider mechanic was certain enemies would have a bubble of chains around them acting as a shield that had a letter above them that you needed to be at to break said shield when you hit it, its a really cool mechanic to be sure I don't disagree with the idea that a more gun focused character action game couldn't be fun, I actually really liked how lady played in DMC4SE, she just needed a few more moves to really shine, like giving her gunkata style melee moves that have crazy good range when using the pistols or something I get what you mean about dunking on games until it becomes boring, I recently watched matt mcmuscles/RSS Liam's playthrough of castlevania 64 and was like "actually this doesn't seem that bad beyond early 3d camera controls" and then I watched RagnarRox's video on it and really wanna give its prequel/overhauled version legacy of darkness a shot now too Its also part of why I started this series cos I think a little bit of tweeking and polish can make these "bad" games alot better, they can't always fix the problems but they can atleast remedy them whilest also making their strong points stronger (like Megaman x3 Zero Project)
@@Kraftium Yeah, I agree, I pretty much stopped insulting games now and want to find ways to improve games I dislike and I am lukewarm on. At the end of the days these games will always exist and condemning there existence is just a pointless waste of time. Some examples of games I could picture being improved include Resident Evil 6, the Jak sequels, and Hitman Absolution. Those games I mentioned have solid foundations that could be improved over, not sure if mods or fan overhauls will make a difference but I can picture some tweaks I can implement to make them better.
I've played vanilla DMC2 via the HD collection on Steam, and although I did not finish it I will say this about it: I feel like people oversell how bad the game really is, but at the same time they are absolutely right that it's not a "good" game by a long shot. The feeling I generally ended up getting from the game was that it wasn't outright bad, but it was something relative to that: Boring. The game is just not fun to play. The unmodded combat is not satisfying at all and the levels are slogs to run through. I didn't feel any outright pain from my experience with the game, but I did feel like I would have had more fun watching grass grow. It's a shame too because the other two games in the collection are much better and I loved playing through DMC3 with an HD texture pack I downloaded online.
I'd argue a boring game is far worse than a bad game which is DMC2s main problem Its also more that the DMC fan base really want to stress 2 is not worth anyone's time if they're not already locked in as a fan and even then its a bit much, worse case scenario is a newcomer plays DMC1 and kinda enjoyed it and then played DMC2 and went "this series ain't for me" and we all want to avoid that
@@Kraftium Honestly the advice I'd give potential new fans would be to play DMC4 and DMC5 first to find out if they like the series, then DMC3 if they enjoyed those since the early game is a bit less beginner friendly, and if they're still having fun then go back to DMC1, and then if they insist DMC2. This way, they're most likely to understand that DMC2 is an outlier, not the example as they've already played the other main games in the series. If someone does want to rush to DMC2 given its notorious reputation, rather than overhyping how bad it is I'd probably just try to fill them in on the development history of the game and the fact that everything that comes after is much, much better from a design standpoint, and that DMC3 is much more representative of the formula that 4 and 5 continued to improve on. As for DMC:DMC, I'd probably recommend new fans to try it sometime after 4 and 5 with the fair warning that it's kind of its own standalone thing. The game is plenty fun, but has nothing to do with the other games narratively and kinda puts Dante and Nero in a blender to make the new Dante, which does honestly make for a fun and somewhat unique playstyle compared to anything in the mainline games.
If the damage was fixed..i would try it out. Getting one shot regardless of how much health i have; I don't feel like messing with that. The faster combat sounds like a blessing. I enjoyed the og DMC 2 more then the first one. But i loved the 3rd game the most.
I’m my experience playing DMC 2, which was on the HD collection for ps4, my only complaint was that the story was awful because the game was juggled from dev to dev, but for the most part I had an alright, somewhat fun time
@@ShadowOne333 maxximum edition (tho redux is the additional patch you apply to maxximum edition right?) I'll probably look at both to atleast some extent
@@Kraftium I believe Redux is its own project aside from Maxximum, but it is based on Maxximum and applies almost everything from Maxximum and works over some of the todos from Maxximum.
I still think it's hilarious that Rocksteady has outright rejected Arkham Origins. Despite being a good game. Capcom continues to add this to the HD collection like it's necessary. I've played through them multiple times and DMC2 is a game where you have to make your own fun to get anything out of it. It's not good by any means, but it has quarks that are hilariously exploitable.
If I'm going to play DMC 2, Its going to be streaming it with this mod. And considering I don't really have a streaming career yet, its going to take a while.
I wouldn't say no to remakes but I would personally just like the efforts to go to a new game The only thing that DMC2 has that I'd want to see return is Lucia, and theres nothing stopping them from using her again A DMC remake is one that would be very cool to see visually since I think it still has the best level design and enviroment art in the series still but I'd be equally happy with just a HD port that has active weapon switch (something you can do with mods but its a little clunky)
@@KraftiumTbh, a DMC2 remake would for all intends and purposes be a new game with how much is wrong with the original. May as well go the Fire Emblem-route and number it as DMC6 xD
Even with the DMC 2 leaked code.. Devil May Cry 2 as it was made back in 2001-02, there's no point on improving or enhancing.. tweaking the existing files.. a proper remake 0 is what this game really cry about. and when I say from 0 I mean it. Sure things like the soundtrack, keyart, concept art can be considered to build a TRUE Devil May Cry 2 game. Re-design all enemies, all bosses, all scenarios/levels, add combos, styles, weapons, powers, skills, dialogues, cutscenes, gameplay mechanics like riding the bike... I mean.. Lucia.. Matier.. deserve a better told story.. Sparda related to be a canon story.. - and Lucia NEEDS to be officialy added to the GROUP! of Trish, Lady.. Nero.. Dante.. Vergil.. yes I know! too much "playing characters" for a single player game and it's story.. make it COOP integrated so it's more fun either playing alone or with someone.. - I 10000% sure, current Capcom Re-imagine engine or Unreal Engine 5.. can handle 2 playing characters with Dozens of AI enemies and some more "brainless" to fill in like in Dinasty Warriors so you sure get the experience of exterminating waves of demons with enough for 2 players going all out at will. - Whatever, what I mean is.. This game needs a REMAKE.
Just finished the video, pretty good I must say. I am of the opinion that DMC2 is more meh than outright horrid. Mainly because I say there's several games I feel are less polished, extremely more buggy, are worse designed, ect, the game having quite a few aspects that I genuinely really liked such as Lucia [please bring her back Capcom], the music, Trish being playable [even if that was better done in DMC4SE], Bloody palace makes it's debut, and even if the actual story was... non existent, I felt the little things like World building, the additions to the lore, the enemy and bods bios, the lines of text that appear before each mission, and hell even the more moody Dante thanks to the changed time [since I believe the theory of Dante is suffering from depression in 2 and TAS since it really add to his character], I thought the fight with despair embodied, Aruis and that boss with a spear but I forget its name were actual pretty decent. Oh and there's the "king? Yeah here's your crown" line. Though I will agree that while this mod does make the combat significantly better overall (for the most part), it can only really do so much, not really the fault of the mod though. I did joke about if Sonic 06 and Postal 3 can be fixed, so can Devil may cry 2... Though with all 3 games... simple mods and patches aren't really enough to really fix each game. Poth 06 and P3 have built from the ground up fan remakes (06 has P-06 and P3 have 2 called Postal 3 unreal and catharsis reborn) and I think if DMC2 is to be salvaged fully, it getting completely remade would be the best option. And funny enough... the reason why I liked all of those games I mentioned even if I agree to all of them being bad... is because I see them not as terrible ideas that shouldn't have ever been attempted, but more so as victims of ungodly troubled productions, as a opposed to something like say Metroid other M or paper mario sticker star, or hell even the DMC reboot, I think if these 3 games in particular were just given the chance, I think they would be greatly appreciated and respected. But that's enough of my rambling for now. Overall a great video and a great showcase of this mod.
Oh I agree, DMC2 isn't the worst action game I've played, its just really bad in comparison to the rest of the series so it stands out more, and has several stand out things that make it look super bad. And while it wasn't the intention I also subscribe to the dante was depressed narrative, (hell i consider his little escapade to SMT3 to be canon and it being part of what helps him recover cos it showed he wasn't gonna be bored all the time.) But yeah its definately limited by only being a mod, and one done via cheat engine of all things (does make it modular) personally I think fully remaking DMC2 would kinda just be a waste of resoruces and I'd more just want them to make DMC6 but include lucia in there. Perfect timeline would of been one where the anime recreated and fleshed out DMC2 as an OVA movie that took place after the series me thinks I'm looking foward to covering Other M at somepoint along with the "maxximum edition" mod cos I think that game has quite alot of good in it, even with the story when you have more context, and while I feel like the ridley scene is badly directed I did form an argument for why samus getting distressed at it is fitting that I'd like to share with people finally I also think DmC has so good aspects in it and is still probably the best attempt at character action from a western studio even if as a whole package its kinda lacking, granted definitive edition did alot for it either way I'll put an end to MY rambling now, glad you enjoyed the video thank you for the support
i remember the first time i played dmc2 a little after i finished dmc1 and bummed out so much in the first mission that just out of spite i finished the whole thing in one sitting so that i would never see its face again and it took me about 10 or 11 hours to finish with both dante and lucia and never touched the game ever since and im glad i didn't

@@Kraftium combining animations is impossible. This is very sad considering that the game formally has four types of weapons: Dante's sword, Lucia's swords, Trish's Fist and Sparda (the animations are completely different from the animations of Dante's swords). in DMS1 there were only 2.5 - Alastor and Ifrit + on Sparda had a couple of special moves
yeah probably, sadly thats a bit outside the realm for a mod and the skip cutscene button is still there so you can just focus on the combat like it is for DmC
Funny enough, when i picked up Devil May Cry, two was the one I started with lol. It was my birthday and my friend bought me both two and three because the first game wasn't there. I thought Dante and Lucia look so fucking cool and I was excited only to be the most disappointed ten year old ever! Then DMC 3 SE happned and I became a different man and now I kill demons with a giant sword and guns on a daily basis in the real world 😁
Yeah its a shame we never even got to see it, I like to think that sparda would be level headed and collected like vergil but cocky like dante Taking a fencing like stance with his sword being like "come now, your form is all over the place, these attacks are sloppy! I can't fathom how you've survived this long"

I already have a list of 8 or so games I could do videos on but I'd be happy to receive more if you've got them.
The one that comes to my mind is the first Watch Dogs, and maybe Dark Souls 2
@@maidenless_alan5136
The only problem I see with the first Watch Dogs is that you can play it like a badass action hero but the game never teaches or leans into this playstyle.
I highly HIGHLY recommend Sonic P-06!

@@DemonDethchase oh I knew that 06 got rushed out to meet the anniversary year but I didn't realise the team got split up, bloody shame it all happened like it did especially when secret rings is nothing to write home about
Still think its funny how the most polished offical release of 06 is actually the 360 demo since the team got something like an extra 3 weeks or months of extra QA between the game going gold and hitting shelves
considering that during the capcom leak, the source code for DMC2 was explicitly leaked, I feel like someone insane enough could actually reverse engineer the whole game and turn it into an actual videogame like people did with Sonic 06

I've got a few ideas of how I could push the boat out with some visual inserts for ones that I intend to do next
Either way I appreciate the comment and I'll do my best to make the series the best it can be >:)

@@lorddragonya I totally agree. Makes me wonder what Vergil's design would be in DMC2....

I can almost guarantee you guys like it because it's super easy.
@@SalesmanWave Not at all. Some of the enemies were cool too. I would've loved to see Bolverk return.
I would really love the Must Style mode if it was implemented on a style rank like the one from dmc 3 or 5, if you did a lot less dmg while a rank and below and normal in s-rank onwards, enemies had the health and damage from at least Son Of Sparda or DMD (if you could configure it in settings it would be way better), and it should be its own mode unlocked after beating normal campaign, i really look foward to something like this in dmc6, being it's own mode allows you to play or dont, your choice
So glad you came back, i love your reviews, really good video, bro! Any chance you do something like Sonic Project 06? A mod that tries to improve the Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) game
the idea of style rank impacting gameplay is something really cool and not played around with much so having a must style mode intergrated into more games would be cool
there are other things they've done with it tho, dante's quaddruple S skill in DMC5 vergils taunts having hitboxes at S rank, nero having a chance to gain exceed during his rev taunt, and crazy combos being longer and easier to extend at higher ranks in DMC3
but the one that I'd like to see return and adopted is the style rank shields from the ghost rider PS2 game where certain enemies have little force fields made of chains with a letter above them and you need to hit them while at that rank or higher to break off the shield to actually start doing damage
also project 06 is definately on the list, I just want to wait for it to be finished before I cover it
DMC 2 introduced a couple of good mechanics, one of which was the Bloody Palace.

I mean I didn't forget it, its just not changed in the mod at all so theres nothing to talk about on that front

It’s funny how even just giving it the classic stinger would improve it by a whole margin
Yeah DMC2'S stinger level 0 is just sad

Sequels in games in particular are very interesting since they have a much higher rate of being better than the original than movies and books tend to
After all it is a young medium and therefore the first game is usually finding its feet alot of the time and the second time round they can refine the gameplay and put more focus on stuff like the story and presentation now they've got a foundation to work off of
I remember lost dimension very vividly as one of the games I was eyeing up when i was getting back into rpgs instead of just playing a ton of halo but sadly I never got it, the premise of it tho is super cool and I have a softspot for the team (they also did monark somewhat resently)
I will say we tolerate NO tactics advance and/or tactics A2 slander on this channel, those games rule and you're comment has earned you a 10 second ban >:(
My usual get up is the a flannel shirt and a hooded jacket of some sort, i actually own very few t-shirts since I find them uncomfy around the neck and i gotta be FREE but the trench coat comes out for special occassions
I've luckily inherited my dad's genes and I don't do anything to it that could damage it (I find basic care keeps it healthy, doing too much will just yank it out) so I'll be keeping my mop for a long time (looking foward to being like DMC5 dante)

So this video it's a really good concidence lol
if you ask the universe hard enough it will give it to you
Please make Hidden Potential a series!!! This is one of my favorite topics in gaming. Theres so many games out there that deserve a second chance to be truly good
Oh I absolutely will don't worry, I had a list of like 6 or 7 games before this video went up and thats pretty much doubled with peoples suggestions (more so if you include ones that I think look cool but i'm not sure if I wanna play really)
expect one every 2-4 months ish, its a fun series idea but I wanna avoid boxing myself in to any one thing (currently I got a video in the works and 2 review codes probably on the way over the next couple of months but I'll aim to do another hidden potential or 2 afterwards, already got some of the footage I need for both)
Like E.T.
Great video
*looks at user name* YOOOO its the creator of critical mix, I actually played one of the older versions and was really enjoying until I did a sequence break jump that caused sora to freak out a bit (it was fine at first but eventually more and more animations just became T poses and it had infected my save files) but I imagine that was a early build ps2 emulation bug
I was actually going to do a video for it some time since I got the KH games on PC just this christmas for pretty cheap in a double sale (then the steam versions got announced) either way I had a gander at the nexus mods page and noticed its been updated and saw its got a new version out, I'll definately take a look at it (and that riku version that I'm just now learning about) at some point
@@Kraftium the next version is going super hard into the action game mechanics! This is definately the next one I'll be looking at for this series after the one I've already half started
this mod sounds fun im gonna check it out
More seriously though, thanks for the review.
The legendary hero is here, HALLELUJAH!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
omg! its the guy, the most wanted
And no problem, thanks for the mod itself its really cool! I did see some of those other stuff when playing around but desided to leave them out due to my yapping streaching out the video more than I'd like already (also stuff like inertia in dmc is beyond my understanding with DMC but its very cool never the less)
I'd completely forgot the capcom leak included DMC2 source code and that certainly is an option but yeah the morality of it is shaky (i wouldn't blame anyone but I'd get why they'd feel guilty about it) and I think what you've done is more than enough to "fix" DMC2
also thanks for watching and commeting, I appricate it :D
Devil May Cry 2 is already fixed and it’s called Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne would NEVER take advantage of our inate gullibility
Well, I'm clearly gonna work on scaling and features of lesser demons. If i could.
As someone who forced himself to Platinum DMC2 so he would NEVER have to go back and play it again, this is making me a feel a mixture of joy that it's being fixed, and dismay that i might break my own word to myself. XD

No one should have to go though playing vanilla DMC2 blind like that
wish they could rework the dmc2 story, because in all honesty there's a nice-looking skeleton of an idea in there, but the poor execution made it so it took me over 10 years to begin to appreciate it. the skeleton is there, but it's been smashed with hammers and needs serious restoration efforts.
This is a great series idea and I subbed immediately to see what other games you'll do.
Best of luck!
haha thank you very much, I'll do my best >:)
"its all up hill from here"
You should totally cover Sonic P-06 next - one of the most infamously terrible games in the medium's history actually had the foundations of a solid game buried deep in it that fans have managed to fix
The worst Devil May Cry had the best Dante costume
Omg, if you did that bit with the glasses that would have been hilarious! Great seeing you in the flesh!
Incredible to see that gameplay can actually be improved. Not originally my idea, but I love a fan theory about the game's story that made it 100x better to me:
DMC 2 Dante isn't actually Dante, but the doppelganger demon from DMC 3. It would tie up a lot of loose ends:
-Why he's so out-of-character and emo, when he's a goofball before and after this game.
That's all you need to establish this fan theory as canon and instantly give more sense to DMC2's story.
thats certainly an interesting theory
personally I'm a fan of the pretty popular "dante is depressed" theory where after losing vergil his life becomes kinda boring and empty cos theres no one like him and he finds no challenge after killing mundus
This helps explain his significantly more mellow attitude in the OG anime and its even more intense by 2 when he barely talks.
At least it works on the PS version of HD Collection
true but holding it does have a set firing speed, thats actually slightly slower than what you can achieve with mashing

I cant believe im going to now have to replay dmc 2 yet again thanks to this mod. Cool video tho man
I apologise for what i've let happen to you
wanting to play DMC2 is a very serious condition :(
I like this video and I really like the series idea, but I would strongly suggest against using background music with vocals if the focus of the video is what you're saying. As someone with ADHD, it makes the viewing experience a bit more difficult!
Most of the time I avoid using background music with lyrics (sadly a bunch of the best DMC music has them)
I also usually mix the background music a bit lower but this time round I mixed it with head phones and realised the the background music was basically silent on speakers so I turned it up again and it seems i over compensated a little
thanks for the comment tho, I'm glad you enjoyed it for the most part :)
"can it be saved..." or "can we save it... DMC2"
yes we can, make is DMC 2 special edition and i dont have to tell who whos coming
thats the spirit
Honestly, I would *love* to see Capcom do a rebuild of DMC2.
14:52 😆😅
Despite it all, DMC2 will always have the best Dante design!
I'm torn between DMC4 and Coatless DMC1 personally
but I ain't gonna deny that the DMC2 design is sick (the diesel costume is pretty good too, just don't like the scarf)
@@Kraftium The way I see it, DMC4 is peak Dante. I love everything about his design, including his buff figure compared to previous games. I still prefer DMC1 because of nostalgia and its uniqueness, but DMC4 really nailed it.

I knew she was in the game for a while but it was only a couple of years ago i found out she had dantes dmc1 moveset
I kinda see the cutlasser can be cutlass devil arm, too. The prototype ones.
Needless to say, this really knocks down a game that is otherwise a masterpiece, and it'd be really nice if that story could be properly realized at some point.
gonna make a mod that turns the entirey of xenogears into just 1 single text dump from start to finish told to you by someone just sitting in a chair
I consider dmc 2 to be the most difficult and challenging game in the series. Just booting up the game takes so much courage and skill to accomplish.
So inspiring, the poor souls who tough it out
The best thing to come out of DMC2 was Dante’s outfit
I am genuinely wondering why nobody has used DMC2's source code yet to fix it.... Didn't the whole code base leak out during the Capcom Gigaleak?
cool. now it just needs a mod that makes the enemies better. more health so we can combo and make them more aggressive if possible.
Yeah that would be good for making enemies be slightly more durable punching bags, hard mode does make them more agressive and DMD gives them more health but it also increases their damage output and with the mods already existing multiplier on enemies its a little brutal
Playing a video gane for an hour or so is a pleasure. So in terms kf that. Devil May Cry 2 is my secons favorite game in the series.
I get the idea of making DMC2 more in line with 3, 4 and 5 but at the same time, I think 2 had some interesting ideas with combat being heavily focused on guns and with melee being light, you could make an interesting play style out of this, and Strife from Darksiders Genesis is how I can picture it working, if you did this DMC2 would be more of a divisive game in the series rather than geniunely bad, and I take divisive over bad anyday of the week.
yeah must style is definatelly cool, if I remember correctly the ghost rider mechanic was certain enemies would have a bubble of chains around them acting as a shield that had a letter above them that you needed to be at to break said shield when you hit it, its a really cool mechanic to be sure
I don't disagree with the idea that a more gun focused character action game couldn't be fun, I actually really liked how lady played in DMC4SE, she just needed a few more moves to really shine, like giving her gunkata style melee moves that have crazy good range when using the pistols or something
I get what you mean about dunking on games until it becomes boring, I recently watched matt mcmuscles/RSS Liam's playthrough of castlevania 64 and was like "actually this doesn't seem that bad beyond early 3d camera controls" and then I watched RagnarRox's video on it and really wanna give its prequel/overhauled version legacy of darkness a shot now too
Its also part of why I started this series cos I think a little bit of tweeking and polish can make these "bad" games alot better, they can't always fix the problems but they can atleast remedy them whilest also making their strong points stronger (like Megaman x3 Zero Project)
@@Kraftium
Yeah, I agree, I pretty much stopped insulting games now and want to find ways to improve games I dislike and I am lukewarm on.
I'd argue a boring game is far worse than a bad game which is DMC2s main problem
Its also more that the DMC fan base really want to stress 2 is not worth anyone's time if they're not already locked in as a fan and even then its a bit much, worse case scenario is a newcomer plays DMC1 and kinda enjoyed it and then played DMC2 and went "this series ain't for me" and we all want to avoid that
@@Kraftium Honestly the advice I'd give potential new fans would be to play DMC4 and DMC5 first to find out if they like the series, then DMC3 if they enjoyed those since the early game is a bit less beginner friendly, and if they're still having fun then go back to DMC1, and then if they insist DMC2.
Dmc 2 was the first one I played I thought it was cool at the time but now I can see how broken it was
I believe it is possible the blaring problem is the slow combat.
If the damage was fixed..i would try it out. Getting one shot regardless of how much health i have; I don't feel like messing with that. The faster combat sounds like a blessing. I enjoyed the og DMC 2 more then the first one. But i loved the 3rd game the most.
Thanks for the mod links 👍🏾 that's awesome. Some people talks about cool mods/fan games & never leave a link.
The damages isnt to bad its just certain attacks that are kinda borked
I think its anything thats multi hitting that screws you
@@Kraftium oh I miss understand 😅 thank you for telling me
This reminds me of when I tried to play Starbound, but I despised the game so I stacked dozens of overhaul mods, but still couldn't make the game fun.
I’m my experience playing DMC 2, which was on the HD collection for ps4, my only complaint was that the story was awful because the game was juggled from dev to dev, but for the most part I had an alright, somewhat fun time
It actually has a huge potential for a remake

We need remakes for DMC1 and DMC2, 1 could benefit from more modern controls but 2 needs a complete remake.
I wouldn't say no to remakes but I would personally just like the efforts to go to a new game
The only thing that DMC2 has that I'd want to see return is Lucia, and theres nothing stopping them from using her again
A DMC remake is one that would be very cool to see visually since I think it still has the best level design and enviroment art in the series still but I'd be equally happy with just a HD port that has active weapon switch (something you can do with mods but its a little clunky)
@@KraftiumTbh, a DMC2 remake would for all intends and purposes be a new game with how much is wrong with the original. May as well go the Fire Emblem-route and number it as DMC6 xD
If dmc1 got remade everything unique about it would be ruined without Kamiyas involvement
-
and Lucia NEEDS to be officialy added to the GROUP! of Trish, Lady.. Nero.. Dante.. Vergil.. yes I know! too much "playing characters" for a single player game and it's story.. make it COOP integrated so it's more fun either playing alone or with someone..
-
I 10000% sure, current Capcom Re-imagine engine or Unreal Engine 5.. can handle 2 playing characters with Dozens of AI enemies and some more "brainless" to fill in like in Dinasty Warriors so you sure get the experience of exterminating waves of demons with enough for 2 players going all out at will.
-
Whatever, what I mean is.. This game needs a REMAKE.
i still don't understand why people hate DMC2 so much... aaaaah casuals never changes
Remaster trilogy with DMC 2 fixed would be clutch for Capcom…
And while it wasn't the intention I also subscribe to the dante was depressed narrative, (hell i consider his little escapade to SMT3 to be canon and it being part of what helps him recover cos it showed he wasn't gonna be bored all the time.)
But yeah its definately limited by only being a mod, and one done via cheat engine of all things (does make it modular) personally I think fully remaking DMC2 would kinda just be a waste of resoruces and I'd more just want them to make DMC6 but include lucia in there. Perfect timeline would of been one where the anime recreated and fleshed out DMC2 as an OVA movie that took place after the series me thinks
I'm looking foward to covering Other M at somepoint along with the "maxximum edition" mod cos I think that game has quite alot of good in it, even with the story when you have more context, and while I feel like the ridley scene is badly directed I did form an argument for why samus getting distressed at it is fitting that I'd like to share with people
finally I also think DmC has so good aspects in it and is still probably the best attempt at character action from a western studio even if as a whole package its kinda lacking, granted definitive edition did alot for it
either way I'll put an end to MY rambling now, glad you enjoyed the video thank you for the support
i remember the first time i played dmc2 a little after i finished dmc1 and bummed out so much in the first mission that just out of spite i finished the whole thing in one sitting so that i would never see its face again and it took me about 10 or 11 hours to finish with both dante and lucia and never touched the game ever since and im glad i didn't
Cant wait for a project like this being completed so we can start shilling it again, this time unironically. I can already hear the choirs in Vinny's chat...
BLEES DINTY PLAE DEE EMM CEE TOO DEFFINUTIFF EDISHIN
IT IS BAEST GAEME NOW DONTI SWINGZ SWURD GUD TOO! NUT JUSTE HIZ GUNZ
No link to that DMC 1 and then 2 playthrough from the friend? I really want to see the high and low of that night.
Sorry the stream itself was just in discord, it was never actually recorded
man i bought this after release previously wathcing a friend play part 1 a little bit. i dont recall anything terrible about it but iddnt play the girl campaign. plenty of games i didnt finish back then but finished dantes campaign ( had the guide too )
I know that you can't add Trish's moves to Dante... But is it possible to replace Trish's model with Dante? so that he has the sword Sparda and Ifrit
I mean *I* can't, I didn't make the mod, I'm just signal boosting it
tho animation swapping could probably be possible but idk
@@Kraftium combining animations is impossible. This is very sad considering that the game formally has four types of weapons: Dante's sword, Lucia's swords, Trish's Fist and Sparda (the animations are completely different from the animations of Dante's swords). in DMS1 there were only 2.5 - Alastor and Ifrit + on Sparda had a couple of special moves
@@Kraftiummany people wanted to make DevilArms switchable to the crossbar

I played dmc2 before i went to the internet; it was a good game to me then and still.
Understanding jow bad is?
Being bad isn't what peoples think...somwthing is bad or ni
And dmc2 is...but isn't that hopeless as they says
This needs a story rework most of all... and Dante needs a personality, hes a card board box in this game.
yeah probably, sadly thats a bit outside the realm for a mod
and the skip cutscene button is still there so you can just focus on the combat like it is for DmC
Funny enough, when i picked up Devil May Cry, two was the one I started with lol. It was my birthday and my friend bought me both two and three because the first game wasn't there. I thought Dante and Lucia look so fucking cool and I was excited only to be the most disappointed ten year old ever! Then DMC 3 SE happned and I became a different man and now I kill demons with a giant sword and guns on a daily basis in the real world 😁
"I'm something of a legendary dark knight myself"
That’s cool and all but have you heard about the canceled dmc game dance of sparda? We could have played as the big man himself
Yeah its a shame we never even got to see it, I like to think that sparda would be level headed and collected like vergil but cocky like dante
Taking a fencing like stance with his sword being like "come now, your form is all over the place, these attacks are sloppy! I can't fathom how you've survived this long"
@@Kraftium hopefully one day…
