Got my wife the TX22 compact. She has arthritis and cannot sustain the recoil of a 9 / 380. Put her a Riton red dot on it. Right out of the gate she hits A+ from 10yds. She really got that thing going. She carries it and trusts it completely. The gun is great and even after 1k+ RDS works flawless.
I’ve had the TX22 for sometime. It maybe the very best 22 semi auto pistol out there. I bought it after seeing the take down. 22 semi autos are notoriously a pain to clean. The TX is a joy!
Yeah I had a Ruger MK3 22/45 and it was insanely good, but being 10 rounds and hard to take apart was a pain. I traded it in somewhere over 10 years ago, but I do remember reassembly was partially luck. One time it would go together fine, the next time there was some lever that wasn't just right, and some motion not moved just right and then if that happened it generally took 15 minutes of fiddling with it to reassemble it.
I’ve had my TX22 for about three years now and it’s been totally reliable, feels great in my hand, and it’s one of my favorite pistols to take to the range. With the right ammunition it could be a viable option for self defense.
I work at a gun store and range; I have to say, hits with a 22lr are better than misses from a 9mm. I see it happen fairly regularly, some one comes to the range and shoots a 22lr at 10 yards. They shoot quickly and have a good group. Then they shoot a 9mm (or other center-fire) and the "group" is huge and the time between shots is so long I could run 20+ yards.
Very true. Also 'true' is the incorrect thought process that nothing exists between these two calibers. I'd say .32 S&W Long is a great option for increased power and primer reliability, but it also requires a revolver of some kind and people who aren't into exploring that are deterred.
@@exothermal.sprocket so many people still give you some version of "that's expensive" and/or "that's hard to find" unless it's 22lr, 9mm, .40, .45, or 38spl. Sometimes you can get them to try a 380.
@@StevenSmith-gunknife Not expensive and not that hard to find. It's just hard to find for someone who's never hunted for it. It's like people who buy a certain car model, and suddenly they are seeing that car all over the place whereas before it never occurred to them.
I've had a TX for about 6 months now and have put about 700 rounds through it with only 3 failures due to weak ammo not cycling it. It's a great gun and quite accurate. I'm thinking about buying another one pretty soon.
I’ve had mine for maybe 4 years now. Bought it because it’s full size with the intention of cheap practice and it quickly became my favorite range gun, it is extremely accurate and reliable. Had a couple fte with old cheap ammo but zero failures with mini mags. Like it so much I bought four for Christmas gifts and it’s my go to for teaching novice shooters. Can’t say enough good things about this pistol
I was looking for the most reliable 22LR semiauto pistol and after months I was down to the Ruger Mark IV and the Taurus TX22 Competition. I literally ordered the Ruger and then cancelled it and got the Taurus, that's how undecided I was. So the results? I LOVE THIS GUN. Had it for a year, and I'm still waiting for my first misfire. So far, every time I pull the trigger it goes bang. Also the competition model had a 5 inch barrel and polished feed ramp etc. I don't even use a red dot, just the iron sights. This gun is amazing. So is the regular TX22 that you have there. Taurus has made a lot of mistakes in their previous guns, but this one makes up for it for me. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!
I have had a Ruger MK3 22/45 and I would routinely put 1,000 to 2,000 rounds of CCI Blazer 40 gr solids through it with about one malfunction per 1,000 to 2,000 rounds, so I don't think you could have made a mistake either way. However, the Taurus TX 22 is a bit more comparable to typical polymer pistols out there, so I think the Taurus is more relevant overall.
@@GunSam Yes, I think the TX22 is the best new 22lr pistol on the market. The Ruger is perhaps better made, but from what I've seen online watching many videos, it actually seems slightly less reliable! I found that surprising. Anyhow, have a nice day, Sam.
Also, don't know if you watch other ppl's channels but Tools&Targets has done a lot with the TX22 and might be worth watching. One of the channels that convinced me that it was a good gun.
My TX22 was not very reliable, but after the second time returning it to Taurus for repairs, it’s very reliable and has become my favorite shooter. It’s funny how many people with different size/ shaped hands find this pistol so comfortable to hold.
Just found your channel. Honest feedback, straight forward analysis with no fluff. Great information on the TX22. I've been debating getting one and think your video helped me decide. Thanks for the content
Great review of the pistol and useful discussion of the ballistic effect of .22 bullets. Few reviewers mention that it is allowed to shoot a bad person attacking you as many times as needed! Sure, the impact of one .22 bullet is not much, but four or five is the same as buckshot! I agree that high capacity makes it relevant. Speaking of mosquitoes, if you shower with "Dr. Bronner's Eucalyptus Oil Soap," in either liquid or bar form, there is lingering slight pleasant odor that has a lasting effect that repels mosquitoes! I have watched Wisconsin and Oregon mosquitoes land on me and extend their beaks ready to bite, then shake their little heads violently and LEAP OFF into space! This was a thirty years ago example, but I bet the stuff still works on those little devils...............................elsullo
I buy a can of Deep Woods Off about every April or May, generally just enough to work until October in one can, filming twice a week like I do. Also mosquitos don't seem to love me, I used to hang out with a friend in the woods who's arms always had dozens on him at a time, and my arms might have one or two....and neither of us used repellant. So a quick spray on my upper body, then a quick spray on my hands to wipe my face is generally enough. It's why I look shiny in the summer, it's that spray lol
Been interested in this little Taurus for a while and I trust your reviews. Currently having radio and chemo for cancer and once I've kicked the alien from my body I think i might reward myself with one of these. I'll be a tad weaker so might not be able to handle my favourite .357 magnum calibre revolvers
Hang in there Dave. I'm praying for you bud. I survived ocular melanoma myself. I'm seven years past radiation therapy now. You can do it. God is good. God bless, Rob
@@la_old_salt2241 thanks Old Salt. That's good to hear. Treatment has come a long way since way back. We have a good team over here in France and I am naturally a glass half full kinda guy. 😁😁
I have been shooting my Taurus TX22 for a couple of years now and is the best .22 pistol I've ever owned, period. Fun to shoot, accurate, reliable, and runs every ammo I've put through it. If you keep it clean and lubed it will run like a Singer sewing machine. I love the smell of smoke when shooting .22 lr, especially the Aguila. Nice video and great review brother 👍
Don't forget to apply for the rebate and get a free range case and 3 free magazines! I like the 75yd shots myself, shows what it is capable of at distance! I replaced the front sight on mine with the tandemkross fiber optic, MUCH BETTER! Also the rear sight sucks I tried adjusting it and kept moving back! So I figured out where i wanted it and removed it and stuck it in place with some rtv now it dont move! The safety will not engage unless there is a round in the chamber, or cocked! Also is safe to dryfire all you want! Nice score! Hope you enjoy it, love mine! Happy Friday 👍
my go-to 22lr pistol is a ruger sr22. i always have it at hand. after 10+ years and well over 10k+ rounds i know it well and any target within 30’ is swiss cheese. as a normal, older civilian my defensive job is to avoid trouble and get off my ambusher’s x, if it comes to that. ten rapid well-placed cci minimags do that for me. no bad guy wants return fire from what he thought was a soft target.
That gun is probably the best semi auto 22lr handgun on the market period. It's reliability, it's price, it's ergonomics and trigger are really simply awesome. The sights are its only weakness. They're known to not hold adjustments and come loose etc.
Yes, absolutely. I do plan on re-wording titles, such as not saying .22 LR VS 9mm" but rather something like ".22 LR Compared to 9mm" or something like that. I have found that in this day and age, most people do not use the classic definition of versus of "as opposed to; in contrast to" and rather think that I am setting up some sort of unfair competition against their favorite caliber, then go on a caffeinated rant about how stupid I am.
@@GunSam Oh, I get your 'comparisons' perfectly well. You've explained it well enough, no problem! Also, I bet gel tests with CCI Minimags or even dare I say Federal Punch would give a lot more penetration and consistency than the WInchester. In my opinion, for what it's worth, if you're gonna use 22LR for self defense, using ammo that gives you several inches more penetration and better expansion (in the case of the minimags) (I use the hollow point 34 grain, not the solids) is the way to go. The worst ammo I ever use in mine is Federal bulk. I do find that Aguila hollow point bulk is really good, better than the Federal. I would use it for self-defense if I had nothing else and feel confident. Anyhow, I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work! Hope your and yours are well! Peace!
after 2 years of shooting my tx 22 i came home from range to clean and the rear sight fell off, lost the tiny screw, got 2 from tauras and blue loctite.i said all that to check yours every once in awhile.
I’ve got the Taurus judge 6 1/2 inch barrel and I’ve got the G2 millennium !Both superior guns I’d love to have that taurus TX 22. 😊 thanks for another great video. I’d like to see you test 255 grain buffalo bore and federal ammo in a 45 ACP also😊
Using federal punch ammo in this has become my favorite and after watching the results of a few gel tests on other channels using the TX22 and federal punch. It's's interesting seeing the results if considering the TX for self defense carry
Everyone knows that two 22s is the same as a 44! Congrats on the new gun. When I put my 22LR adaptor on my Beretta 92A1, I get 15 shots in a magazine. They don't last long! LOL. I tend to pump them out as fast as they will go which is pretty fast. Shooting at a bowling pin hanging from a rail at 33 yards is really fun though. 22LR is fun in general. As for self defense, you can pepper someone with a lot of bee stings in a very short time.
I grew up shooting .22's and airguns. I knew from a young age I had a problem, like addiction. I would go through those 5,000 pack copperhead BB's in like 2 days, hundred of pellets. Then I would buy .22 LR ammo when I was like 13-14 years old at my local hardware store lol. Early 90's and no one cared if you were a minor. I still remember they were expensive there for .99 cents per 50, when I could get the 500 pack of Thunderbolts at Walmart for $8.97 and save a DOLLAR that way lol
Great choice, I'm getting the TX compact and putting a green dot on it for plinking fun and cheap training with a dot soon. Another excellent choice look at the S&W 22 Compact, I've had it about 6 years and it has always been reliable even when I put my suppressor on it. As for CC, I wouldn't recommend 22 LR, I like my 9mm or 38 special +P. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed watching you shoot.
I just purchased what I'm seeing touted as the "best .22LR kit gun" - the Kel Tec P17. I have also seen nothing but great reviews of the Taurus TX22. Two different types of .22LR - the Taurus is much larger and heavier than the P17. Interested in this vid - I didn't get my P17 for defense - I have others that I use for that. It's more just for fun and maybe something that can be given to a daughter in law if ... I mean when shtf/rwol hits... Love your vids and try to catch them as they come out. Thanks! ETA - Kel Tec sells IWB holsters for the P17 on their web site - $40. I got one for mine. I like Kydex as it's water proof and allows easy draw and re-holstering.
I was going to get a P17, and didn't only because when it comes to barrel lengths and barrel travel type comparisons, the Taurus was a bit closer for 'fair' comparisons for it's overall size (like if not this 4" gun, than that 4" gun same size in comparison) type of thing.
Good stuff Sam. Check out the Tandemkross +5 extender plates, they dont add TOO much length and you can end up with 21+1 rounds on tap... I use them on the range and they've seemed just as reliable as with the standard base plates, at least in the ~500-750 rounds I've put through it. Also, Tandemkross had a crazy sale on blemished versions of 22lr compensators, I got one for like $30 after shipping & taxes and it only has a tiny ~1/8 inch scratch on one side... Not that you need it on 22lr but it does keep that muzzle from moving at all, you end up eating out a raggedy hole in the center of your target. They're a cool little company who makes practical TX22 accessories.
I’ve had my tx 22 for about 3 years. I highly recommend the Tandem Kross +5 magazine extensions, and the Galloway +9 magazine extensions give it 25 shot capacity. I run a Burris red dot and a Rugged Oculus silencer. Probably about 15,000 rounds through it using all kinds of ammo, mostly subsonic. Good trigger, super reliable for a 22. Tons of fun!
Nice presentation to start the Fall season. I have both guns, and love them both. Also have the LCRX .22 WMR Snub Nose and sometimes carry that one. Usually shoot Federal Game Shok 50 grain offering and the Federal Punch with the WMR guns. All the best! "The JJ" SW Penna.
Great video! Taurus TX 22 is my wife’s favorite gun.. cause it’s not as loud and much less recoil. Thinking about grabbing the Taurus TX22 Compact for the kids..
@@bonsaipiper3773 In my experience in my own life as well as many people's lives, the reason why Dan would say that is not just because of the recoil and it turning people off to shooting like he is implying. It is because new shooters tend to (be cheap and) not realize that to be proficient, you have to spend a lot of money on a good centerfire gun and good ammo, and if you tell someone that you have to spend $600 to get a decent handgun, and $500 to get enough ammo to gain some skill, they will say forget it.....or of the recoil is too high, they will say forget it. Noobs will see a $250 price tag on a .22 pistol, see a $30 price tag on a 500 round box of .22 ammo, and actually go for it. This gets them in the door and gets basic marksmanship fundamentals, which is like 80% of everything that matters in self defense training or target shooting. And now after all this....this is why FFL's have trade in options.
I bought a tx22 and the barrel wouldn’t run 20 rounds before becoming severely leaded up to the point that accuracy was shooting 5ft groups at 20ft. It took a lot of work to get the lead out of the barrel and I tried several different brands of ammo and it happened again and again. Taurus customer service was excellent. I ended up selling the gun. I’ll Never buy a Taurus product again.
I know Taurus bashing is fashionable, but in my experience the TX22 is a lot more reliable than the G44. I run a G30S well, so that's what I'm carrying. If the day comes I need to switch to a 9mm running CD Lite, .380 or .22 I will. My Mom is 76 yo and recently had to swap her beloved J-Frame for my sister's old S&W .380 EZ. She still slices and dices an apple at 15 yards with the best of them
Yeah, if I recall a Glock 30 is 3.7" barrel and very fat. Makes sense that a holster for a fat pistol, is longer than 3.7" so that the material stretches outward for it to fit, thus making it "longer" so when a 4.1" goes it, it's a perfect fit.
I actually have half a box of .22 LR Punch, and picked up some .38 Special Punch to compare it to. I plan on sort of a series like ".22 LR Compared to 9mm" (or .38 Special or .380 ACP etc) rather than using titles like ".22 LR VS 9mm" because people often get into a fit thinking that somehow I am trying to make the .22 LR look bad like it's a competition.
@@GunSam Agreed, although personally I've not been deterred by the titles, but I'm pretty savvy with the subject matter. I think in general, .22LR is going to need more of a force multiplier for effectiveness, which is what you've implied in the video. But hey, it'll be fun to explore the subject because outside Harrell, it's not been done very much and usually dismissed as "not recommended" or "not inherently reliable" or something along these lines. The benefits of .22LR (low recoil, low noise, low weight) can aid in shot accuracy and followup. It's obvious out of a 18" barrel the stuff will down hogs and deer, with the correct placement. It's not weak but it requires a different approach.
I will probably be testing those at some point. I do have some Stingers to test as well as mini-mag target and mini-mag HP, and Punch. I will go through everything at some point though, no doubt.
@@GunSam I know that you have the lcr 22 mag with a 3” barrel, but have you seen the New Diamondback Birdshead 3” barrel? It’s very neat, 9 shot 22 lr with an interchangeable cylinder for 22 mag. There is only one channel with an unboxing video on it, I realize it is not a steal on the price, but maybe it interests you.
U should shoot from 12 yards, 25 yards. And 50 yards . With 22lr up to 357 sig. For self defense and home defense. And 10mm and higher do videos of 50 yards to 75 yards for hunting and personal protection. I think that is more realistic and reasonable so you don't take so much heat for these applications. Remember everyday you have a new 2a gun owner trying to figure out what best for each application. You do really good videos!!! Keep up the good work. !!!! Don't get discouraged about the 75 yard shoot.
I had one of my random thought.if sam walked up to the traphouse dressed like that il bet the roaches would go flying out the back door.that pistol would be just fine for self defense.and yes,I had a bobcat for about 2 days before I got rid of that jamomatic.couldnt string 3 shots together.
Funny you should say no less than 12-13 rounds. TX22 compact is 13+1 standard mag capacity. I carry a 365xl, but after having my full size TX22 for 3 years and many thousands of rounds, I wouldn't doubt it's reliability. I recently added the compact, but only have a few hundred ribs through it so far. The only ammo I've had trouble with has been the Remington bucket of bullets(1400). The full size TX22 doesn't like to go fully into battery after a couple hundred of them and no cleaning.
18:01 please don’t stop shooting the longer range targets. I really enjoy your videos and I really like to know the The accuracy potential at longer ranges.
Hey man, don't stop doin 75 yard shooting. I really enjoy it and I shoot pistols long range as well. People will always be morons and run there mouths. Everyone is an expert now days and have an input. If they don't like it, they can stop watching. Just my 2 cents lol. Keep doing your thing brother, I think it's awesome!
👍 Looking to get back into handgun shooting and even though I am a card carrying revolver aficionado I have pretty much decided on a Kel-Tec P17 for much the same reasons as you expressed. I figure it is an excellent and affordable way to get my trigger finger back, no concerns about losing precious brass, can stand in for defense and if I am out in the woods on an ATV (disabled) it would allow popping off an occasional bunny or tree rat. P.S. Can I suggest a first test with your new Taurus Federal Punch V.S. CCI Blazer 40gr solid?
Check the rifling on your barrel ----- I had TX22 and it was so lop-sided ----- thick heavy rifling on on side and very thin on the other side accuracy was horrible --- I traded it. Hope you got better luck!
Great pistol, but keep an eye on the aluminum slide the recoil spring likes to dig into it. I bought a buffered stainless recoil assembly which has a polymer buffer put into the assembly and now it won’t dig into the aluminum frame and eventually crack from constant digging from the factory recoil spring assembly. Lakeline is a good stainless assembly with a polymer buffer.
★ Was hoping you would get that pistol. You'd mentioned it before. 16 rounds sounds good. I'm highly impressed with your "right out of the box" experience with it. Just might get one based on the capacity and the preview I'm getting here and thanks for that. I have a gsg fiire fly 10 shot. Shoots great, 'once you realize' it needs 1200-1250 velocity ammo. 16 rds....yeah, that's just the excuse I need 😁! Thanks for the great video!
I saw that SGS pistol and a few others like it. Was maybe $40 less than the Taurus, but I figured Taurus was probably used by more shooters, so getting one that people can relate to when I do ballistic tests, is a good thing.
@@charlesmudd9834 If I am remembering right, there were several SGS pistols and some were the Sig knockoffs, and some were 1911 knockoffs. I would say, if it was for myself and not making relatable TH-cam videos, I might have gotten that 1911!
@GunSam ★ You're absolutely right. Gsg made the branded sig mosquito. The fire fly is a 3/4 size knock-off of a sig. I forget which model. They eventually dropped it, so gsg rebranded it under their own name. Then, they stipulated in their owners' manual for using 12 or 1250 fps and above ammo. I'm guessing most .22 is higher than that anyway, but some that bought sig may have been disappointed before realizing that need. I 'also' think that they make a 1911 model. I've personally had a good experience with it. Really like the ergonomics. PS. It uses the sig mosquito kydex holsters and magazines.
Every TX 22 has the thread adapter, even the one I have. Just screws the end of the barrel off that is the same size as the rest of it, and screw on the adapter. I haven never gotten into the suppressor game but I have always wanted to have one. I just, prefer as little ATF contact as possible so I have hesitated.
@@GunSamI'm with you on the ATF Sam. I don't care to have them visit me. Heck, I don't have any company at all over to my place just normally. I'm not a loner, I just am particular about the company I keep. 🙂
(15) x 0.22 = Buck shot… Hard cast 22 would be interesting. Do round nose 22 penetrate better than flat or hollow points ? Tune in next time! Same Bat Time…. Same Bat Channel
I have never seen a .22 that was hard cast, but I am assuming from what I know, that it might not be a good idea. Seems like even a little increase in lead hardness might cause a huge drop in velocity due to bore drag. I mean, .22 LR is often working with like , a half of one grain of powder so any little thing will effect velocity. What I have seen is that round nose .22 LR almost always tumble or arch and penetrate to like 12" in gel. A flat point or flat hollow point would penetrate a tad deeper but not by much as the energy is limited. With centerfire ammo non expanded HP's tend to penetrate less than flat points, but in rimfire ammo it seems that the hollow cavities are too small to really change the penetration.
nice, test everything, advantage of 22 is light ammo and you can carry extra magazines because of that, with a 511 tactical vest a carry around a browning buckmark with 262 rounds of ammo comfotably with 10 round mags, another advantage of 22 is fast accurate mag dumps, and claude werner the top defense researcher says 22 he cant find any more losses in self defense with 22 then larger calibers, for capacity its not so much capacity of magazine but how many you carry, for example i can carry comfortably 6 10 round magazines in comfort and 2 boxes of 50 for lose ammo, also that rancher on youtube made a video about head shots during slaughter and not one stood on 4 legs for more then a second so dont rule out defense head shots, israel idf used 22 barreta varients for counter terrorism and hostage rescue, heart and head shots, the long range accuracy like a brownng buckmark also is a defense advantage, they are like a sniper in pistol form with ability to carry lots of ammo in mags that dont weigh alot, with 262 rounds on my carry days with my buckmark i am a one man army, remember because ammo is cheap you can train more including run and gun wch is to expensive to get in with other calibers, so my tactics, speed and accuracy with a 22 is more then enough training to overwhelm any threat, go for head not just heart, no worres about side torso if you got a head wich is easy to do being recoil follow up shots are accurate and lightning fast, if someone has a lower capacity 22 just have a few mags and invest in them if main defense is a 22, most defense situations that are non law enforcement but just private citizens end in 3 seconds as a break in contact with perps running by just the first shot but most times no shots fired, as a private citizen its extremely statistically rare incapacitation will be necessary to stop a threat, the perps usually stop the attack once first shot fired in most cases but law enforcement and mixing in their defense situations and stats with the private citizen is what gave 22 a bad rap but its a straw dummy argument using law enforcement wich is different to justify why 22 isnt adequate because the final outcomes and stats show that no more people have lost their lives defending with a 22 then any other larger caliber and law enfocement is different because you cant just defend and take cover like a private citizen but must chase the suspect wich requires more ammo and resources, acception to the rule is a very rare sheep dog event where i private citizen will chase but has no duty to do so, that indiana mall event dickens did is that rare example, that 40 yards is a synch with a 22 but you always want head shots because body armor today can soak up 9 mm, 40, 45 and such or even more so never assume they have no body armor, if your train run and gun tactics with a 22 and use cover properly you can take any threat accurately with low risk to bystanders, we still need gel tests picking the best 22 but gel only shows damage and penetration potental, you still need skill and tactical resonse from the person with the gun wich is the main factor of a win or loss more then the ammo and having extra magazines no 22 should be a problem and its very hard to find even one defense case where a well trained person with a 22 even lost a gun fight sincethankfully perps were cowards and didnt want a shootout with a trained private citizen
Im curious…. “I” bought a Taurus .357 snub about 20 years ago for a back up when I was hunting. It was spank you new and the rounds hit the paper sideways at 10 yards. I sent it back and never looked back. Yes or no, has Taurus gotten any better over 20 years? Seems a lot like the horror stories never end.
I would say their revolver game is about the same as it used to be, and also they abandoned their lifetime warranty regardless of owner and now do the same thing as S&W of a lifetime warranty only if you are the original 'from a gun store NIB" purchaser. So I would say, their revolvers in my experience going back 15 years with them is about the same. Where they have changed is in their semi autos. While I have only owned a couple of their polymer semi auto pistols, what I can tell VS stories from 20 years ago is that Taurus has changed completely in semi auto pistols. From what I understand, back 20-25 years ago, a Taurus semi auto was basically no better, or even worse overall than a Hi-Point. Now days they rival M&P and Glock easily. And that makes sense, polymer and other basic semi auto striker designs are very simple and robust, hard to screw it up with modern computer design.
I saw that channel name change a few weeks ago or whenever it was. I sort of love it. Someone also just told me about a rebate to claim 3 free mags and a bag. So FIVE times 16 rounds of very light ammo is definitely something. What is that like 80 rounds on you? lol
Nice looking firearm , glad it shot well. I grew up in the rural northeast and as a kid most male friends and relatives had a 22 semi pistol that they had with them whenever they went out. Mostly used for improptu small game with the secondary function of defense which thankfully never had to test. Colt woodsman,Ruger mk's, Browning Buckmark s, etc. were popular. Not the most desirable caliber for defense, but I am looking forward to your testing. I am always wondering what my best choices might be for my own 4" Buckmark for emergency frontal shots through a rib cage. I really like your added material to simulate that , not just plain gel results. Unfortunately Browning has told me they do not recommend shooting any of the hyper ammo so Cci velocitors and Aguila interceptors, etc are not a choice. Right now I'm alternating between federal champion 40 gr lead, Cci blazer 40 gr and Aguila 40 gr super extra.
For regular people, yeah probably. I wouldn't want to be a cop though, and carry one lol. People on meth, murderers that will fight through anything to not spend life in prison, etc.
Keep doing your long distance shots it’s a real world situation. I’m interested in the tx22 I have also had bad luck with Taurus customer service. I have never had any issue with my G2C. Thank you for the review on your new tool.
We've had one for about a year. Higher capacity is great for plinking. For self defense, it would be d3@th by a thousand cuts. It's better than a sharp stick😂
Apparently Taurus is offering a range bag and 3 free mags with every purchase until sometimes next month. It's funny, I cannot imagine walking around with 5 mags and 81 rounds total, but being light ammo it could be doable.
Why not the SigSauer P322 with 20 round mag capacity? For penetration I would only use round nose with .22lr. The fact that 22lr is the most used caliber in kill shots/crime makes the minimum penetration in gel very questionable.
Criminals are not a good source to pick a weapon, or ammunition for self defense. Criminals using .22lr has more to do with how cheap the ammo is rather than it being good, it's the same reason why FMJ ammo is often used in crime. A .22lr can kill but that doesn't make it a good option when there are way better options out there like 9mm, .30 super, .380, and .38 special for low recoil ammo.
don't recall saying I was done with Taurus, but in terms of revolvers yes, I will never buy another Taurus revolver because I know how bad they can be. If there's a Taurus pistol that i'm not going to carry, a lot of people have it (thus making my tests more relevant) and it's super cheap, i'm going to pick one up for the viewers to see relevant data to them. That's the thing about TH-cam, is I buy and test a lot of stuff I do not care about, but a lot of people request to see something specific like this.
I saw a black girl in Walmart yesterday wearing all chocolate brown clothing. I do not think it was a coincidence that the color was identical to her skin, I thought she was naked. It was funny though.
If an Average healthy person chooses it VS other options to carry I will agree. However I could see some 21 year old who just got a carry permit, they qualified on a .22 pistol and it's going to take them 6 months to save enough for a 9mm or whatever - than they are carrying a .22 because they only have a .22. Also disability or physical limitation might make this what a person can only carry. Now there are people my GF calls black crayons (not the brightest crayon) who will read information like ".22 LR is the most deadly caliber" based on statistics of people killing themselves with guns of opportunity, and think this means "more powerful/more stopping power" and carry it like a dummy, those people aren't bright.
unfair replies. ad hominem attacks never work well. the first rule of gunfighting is to have a gun. the second rule is to do one’s best to stay away from situations where you need a gun. until centerfire handgun ammo has a proximity fuse, better to rely on hits from a 22lr pistol than misses from a centerfire pistol.
@@jtns2845You say that like using a centerfire round is significantly more difficult to shoot well with when that's not the case at all, there are plenty of people who can shoot 9mm .40, and .45 fast, while still being accurate. You .22 guys are basically the opposite extreme of the stopping power crowd only with shot placement being used as an excuse to compromise on a bad caliber. Shot placement matters but having standards for bullet performance is also important because shot placement isn't going to mean much if the bullet gets clogged in a jacket, or stops at bone.
@@ThrashMetalWolf666 indeed many folks do very well with centerfire calibers, which are excellent of course. there are some folks who dont shoot centerfire calibers for various physical and financial reasons. should they be disparaged and disarmed? a well-practiced rimfire handgun serves a useful, one and done, role for some folks at some time in their lives, maybe even for you too in the future.
I agree .22lr you need to hit the right part of the target to quickly stop the fight. Interested in reliablity of rimfire. Enjoy the new toy. Not big enough for those mosquitos though.🦟
Could you address your grip again? You use a revolver grip with your semi automatics. I’m asking because I’m curious… Not because I’m being critical. I think you shoot pistols very well.
@@Kelly-oq9nh I use the grip I do mostly because when shooting one handed, my strong hand remains the same, it keeps the pistol secure so it cannot easily be ripped out of my hands. Also, if I used a thumbs forward grip on a revolver it would be bad. So if a revolver grip works on a semi auto, why change it? It's funny we are having this conversation because my grip is the grip used for nearly 100 years even on semi autos, it's normal. Thumbs forward is new and weird but it's something some people do for whatever reason. I see no benefits to it myself.
Federal Punch is the only ammo I would trust for self defense in 22 lr
My TX22 is flawless with 1,000+ rounds and only sporadic cleaning. Best 22 semiautomatic I've ever owned, by far.
Steel frame 38 special with standard pressure ammo ...
I wish they still made mid size .32 acp pistols.
I've had a TX for about 6 months now and have put about 700 rounds through it with only 3 failures due to
weak ammo not cycling it.
The ergonomics of the grip are definitely on point!
Just found your channel. Honest feedback, straight forward analysis with no fluff. Great information on the TX22. I've been debating getting one and think your video helped me decide. Thanks for the content
I picked up a Keltec P17 .. extremely reliable
My first tx22 had Forty-Eight thousand rounds to it before I had to replace the barrel it's been one hundred percent reliable I own a 8 of them now
Great review of the pistol and useful discussion of the ballistic effect of .22 bullets.
I have the exact FDE model. Absolutely a joy to shoot. Not picky about ammo. More accurate than you'd think. My favorite 22 handgun.
Correct. They even run most subsonic and cycle
Been interested in this little Taurus for a while and I trust your reviews. Currently having radio and chemo for cancer and once I've kicked the alien from my body I think i might reward myself with one of these. I'll be a tad weaker so might not be able to handle my favourite .357 magnum calibre revolvers

I am looking forward to future testing with this TX22
Best 22 on the market. Between my father and I we have 6. Sold my sw victory because this was just more fun and as accurate
I also like you taking 75 yard shots.
Thanks for your testing & opinions.
Now that you have this, I hope to see more 22lr VS other calibers videos in the future!
US military did live tissue testing on .22LR, 9mm and 45acp, and found there is no difference in "stopping power" of the three rounds.
Love my TX22! Never have had an issue.
@@GunSamGood memories!

I really like my TX22.
I was so impressed with my TX 22. Love the ergo. Makes me want a TX 9mm 😂. And ya mine suppressed with my oss rad 22 has been 100%
Good stuff Sam.
GS. Another good video. That gun seems to shoot very nice. Thanks for sharing and take care.
I like you taking 75 yard shots!
I want them as a part of the tests!
Your ability takes a lot of variables

I’ve had my tx 22 for about 3 years. I highly recommend the Tandem Kross +5 magazine extensions, and the Galloway +9 magazine extensions give it 25 shot capacity. I run a Burris red dot and a Rugged Oculus silencer. Probably about 15,000 rounds through it using all kinds of ammo, mostly subsonic. Good trigger, super reliable for a 22. Tons of fun!
I just purchased a TX22 today

Great video! Taurus TX 22 is my wife’s favorite gun.. cause it’s not as loud and much less recoil. Thinking about grabbing the Taurus TX22 Compact for the kids..
You do great videos. So much of the gun content out there is the same old “advertisement” type content. Keep it up.
Great for low cost practice , great for a new or light weight shooter . A nube should start with this , not a 357 or a 12 ga .
How 'colorful' would a world be without people willing and able to express their opinions, even if they aren't sage advice? Lay off man.
She still slices and dices an apple at 15 yards with the best of them
Pretty neat that you just happen to bring a glock holster with you that fits for your unboxing 🤔
You are fabulous ......and an excellent exponent of the shooting world: Thank you
Looking forward to this, Sam!
I hope you've been able to find Federal Punch, it seems to be the penetration champ so far.
65,000+++ SUBs !!! Great Shooting !!!
Aquila interceptor hollow points would be an interesting test in that thing.
Nice shooting rounds for me. Very reliable. All the best. "The JJ" SW Penna.

All I mostly own is Taurus, ( 9 mm, 40 cal., 38 special revolver.) I think I will have to add this to the collection.
I bought mine without an external safety. I bought it as a practice pistol for my Glocks as it feels like a Glock.
Good rational thoughts and shooting.

👍😊 it’s a different discipline but workable.
Great video, thanks 👍😎
★ Was hoping you would get that pistol. You'd mentioned it before. 16 rounds sounds good. I'm highly impressed with your "right out of the box" experience with it. Just might get one based on the capacity and the preview I'm getting here and thanks for that.

@GunSam ★ Yeah...makes sense "and" looks like a keeper.
@@charlesmudd9834 If I am remembering right, there were several SGS pistols and some were the Sig knockoffs, and some were 1911 knockoffs. I would say, if it was for myself and not making relatable TH-cam videos, I might have gotten that 1911!
@GunSam ★ You're absolutely right.
Love those black powder loads 😂
I've been looking to buy the TX22 with the optic cut and threaded barrel just for fun at the range shooting. I conceal carry a Glock 23.
Every TX 22 has the thread adapter, even the one I have. Just screws the end of the barrel off that is the same size as the rest of it, and screw on the adapter.
The 22 punch in LR is best defense ammo
Do you love it? 😃 Btw I changed my channel name Sam (formerly Guns&Cars)
@@GunSam Galloway makes a +9 extension for it- I have a video on it comming up soon...
Once you start shoot at someone, they are most likely going to run away, no matter what caliber.
Correct
Enough difference to make a difference. Channeling your inner Paul Harrell?
Try out the TX22 Compact with 13 round capacity.
I got it with a laser and extended mag
@@ThrashMetalWolf666 I dont think you understand my comment.
@@Gieszkanne I commented on the crime aspect which is something that people use as an argument to determine the weapon, or ammo's effectiveness.
@@ThrashMetalWolf666 Yes you didnt get the point.
@@Gieszkanne Like what?
Opinion on the KelTec P-17 .22 ??
I haven't owned one yet or shot one to know. But I was going to get one, and I got this Taurus instead only due to more barrel length.
@@GunSam Really wish Ruger would offer higher capacity on it's MkIV, LCPII, and SR22 options.
Use the Federal Punch in 22lr and you will be fine
Nice
I thought you were done with Taurus?
don't recall saying I was done with Taurus, but in terms of revolvers yes, I will never buy another Taurus revolver because I know how bad they can be.

My opinion is anyone who carries a rimfire for defence is most likely not too bright.
@@jtns2845 I don't miss

Nice video. And your range is great !
