I bought an N instead. It was a difficult decision mainly because of the price and knowing the m3p was quicker. Everyones reasons and needs will differ, but here were my thoughts: 1. I need space. 3 kids fit in the back of a 3 dual motor, but snug and they are still growing. The headroom quickly diminishes back there. 2. I hated not having a turn signal stalk. The buttons straight up suck, and i saw many complaints about the button sticking on/off. Also, if you turn the wheel first, you can lose where the buttons are, and it's too late. 3. The cooling system is more robust and track ready. Even if I never track it, I like the feeling of it being overkill and hourly adds to the longevity of the battery and motors. 4. The Tesla looks like every other Tesla and especially to non- enthusiasts. I wanted something somewhat unique. 5. The fake shifting and sounds. Yes, it's a bit hokey on paper, but it's so well executed (the shifts, rev matching, each gear has its own powerband with dips, each gear loses power respectively to the one preceding, engine braking with 1st gear having the most etc). 6. Inevitably, something will go wrong with either car. Tesla has a limited dealer network, and the repair time are high. Way more Hyundai dealerships out there.

The refresh looks good to me. I also had it tinted and removed aero caps. 5. I agree. What a move by Hyundai! 6. I had an issue with my M3P shortly after I picked it up. A mobile repair guy came to my car at work an fixed it without me having to do a thing. I am not to knowledgeable about the N, but the software/app control in the M3P is amazing. I have had free FSD since I've had it and it will drive for 3 hours, in any condition, just by pushing 1 button. In spirited driving it feels planted and responsive as well. I came from BMWs and was impressed in the sportiness of the car. RIP sound and manual though of course.

Weight matters. The Hyundai is 800lbs heavier than the Model 3 thats why the Tesla has more range and better drag times. BTW the Highland Model 3s beat their EPA numbers, in the past it was true that Teslas always underperformed but thats not true for the new Model 3. I'm getting 200Wh/mile over the last 1400 miles and 208Wh/mile over the 3500 miles that I've owned my 2024 M3 AWD. Thats mostly roadtrip miles. That's consistent with all of the 70MPh range tests that your fellow TH-camrs have done.
@@joshuarosen465 yeah, range numbers are better then before, but performance still falls short at around 285. However put on some Ev01s 18s,and range can get to around 350!!
On EVs, range has not so much to do with weight. It's mainly air resistance, and the N being much taller than the Model 3 needs more energy to go through the air.
@layne4376 Eh i mean it was against the panasonic battery m3p. Under the same conditions the us spec m3p is faster in a straight line, theres really no denying that fact
Finally a proper race that used the US version of the new M3P. And to those that thought the I5N driver didn’t use the boost button, he did. It didn’t matter. And the M3P was in the wrong mode, so it all works out regardless. Those factors won’t change the stock 0-60 factory tested times for either vehicle. And yes, he used the boost mode and even explained how it works at 2:20. The good news is that the I5N still wins on a track course as the M3P doesn’t come with a race suspension and the brakes are only average. Winner? M3P because it’s 15K cheaper than the I5N.
So far my 2024 M3P U.S. version is beating the IQ5N. Even the 2nd race in which the M3P had a poor reaction time; it caught the IQ5N. Nice to see 10.9s (barely) by the M3P on a valid draggy run < 90% SOC & no pre-conditioning either which supposedly can make the car achieve 10.7s - 10.8s :)
@@racer247 100 percent facts. Dragy is the most accurate timing device on the market, identical to drag strip slips. It can show with and without rollout. It's amazing that a channel like TFLcar doesn't know that... unless they are sponsored by Solo.
People miss the point on the Tesla. Even if you track your car, that’s 1% of your car usage - if not less. The Tesla is the better option for 99.9% of folks out there spending 50 grand in a car, better interior, better options, Autopilot or FSD for $99/mo, amazing app with ton of features, keyless, incredible audio system, best user interface there is, cameras everywhere, dog mode, camping mode, safest car on the road, supercharger integration, road trip planner, etc so many features that you will actually use every day. This is better in every measure using it as a regular car on a daily basis plus you’ll smoke anything on those 10-15 seconds you dare to “race” anyone on public roads. It is cheaper, quicker, well built and very solid feel, maintenance free, just tire rotation and go. Oh and the fact that there are millions on the road actually makes your insurance cheap, if you get in an accident there are a million parts everywhere, etc, its just a better option all around.
For all the people knocking on 5N there is no comparison with M3P. M3P is a daily driving sedan with performance. 5N is a track focused car. It is heavier because it is better suspension more rigid frame, better breaks and much better battery management and cooling system. Yea any electric car can go fast in straight line but when you add turns and repeated performance 5N can go lap after lap without fuss, while M3P breaks will catch fire after 1 lap and the battery will over heat, cutting power. 5N can work as a good daily driver but it also has performance and track creditials which M3P cannot match.
That’s more representative of the Shanghai variant not the Fremont variant regarding the brakes and battery overheating. As for handling I’d like to see this objectively measured. Got a source?
We have yet to see a reliable track comparison of the US version M3P and I5N. The comparisons on YT is of the European version which is 200 hp weaker than the 5N, and they also don't use driving modes correctly so battery and brakes don't survive.
I think they should have had Tommy in this one; the Hyundai has A LOT of settings to get the most of it, so much more than just launch control and the N button..
Lots of testing on highlands has shown Tesla is meeting EPA ratings now. You should have presented this data. My 2024 M3P at 6500 miles total driven is getting 250wH/mile or 316 miles of usable battery range. With my current drive cycle at just under 800 miles recorded I am at 340 miles per charge. This is without aero caps on the wheels.
Plus it is important to mention that the Tesla qualifies for the $7,500 federal subsidy (for qualifying buyers). Bringing the price down to $47K+ fees for the gray (standard/free paint color) model. They also have a deal that you can get the M3P in other colors and still qualify for the $7,500 off if you add FSD, for a full price of $57K. Otherwise the price cap is $50K to qualify for the subsidy.
Tesla still has poor build quality. Remember, they are a Technology company building cars around Technology. Other experienced Car manufacturers have years of building cars 1st. It makes all the difference.
@@winsormarion5160I’ve had mine for 5 years. The only money I put into it was to change the cabin air filters. There are no rattles in my interior. Not sure what more you could ask for out of a car. Build quality is great.
@winsormarion5160 Most of the build quality issues have been addressed by the refresh and will be addressed in the new model Y next year Its just not a good excuse anymore Tesla has been responding very well to these quality control issues.
So Tesla model 3 is quicker, hella cheaper, has more range, could charge anywhere with NACS, also more practical with frunk? If I may add, tesla software and apps are miles ahead everyone else. sound system in M3P also by some account better than 5N. The fun factor in 5N is the fake engine amd fake gear change, and it actually made the car slower.
The Hyundai i6 is 400-600# heavier and now less efficient than the model 3. So the new i6n coming next year likely still won't beat a m3p. It will also weigh at least 450-550# more and cost 10-20k more without dealer markups, have no tax credit and accounting for the additional fees taxes and interest=tesla USA made ftw!
If youre gonna compare the froot(so practicalities) then you have to also talk about the boot, all that size and weight is for something. Some may also prefer to have some degree of physical buttons and turn signals. Or a dash for that matter. No matter what, if you get the 5N, you get an SUV, while the M3P is a (compact? sedan? Im not good with sized, but smaller), which means less room inside. The practicalities are simply not comparable in that, if you have zero need for room and only drive yourself around, youre not gonna need an SUV, if you’re carrying the whole family with suitcases, I doubt youre gonna prefer the M3P. If you are talking pure price to performance though, the M3P still have brake and thermal issues on a track, so it’s not race ready ootb, so youre gonna have to do more upgrades to it(if you can fix things like battery thermals at all, I dont know). So the sticker price is misleading.
The Model 3 P is the best performance car bargain in the history of autos. I like that 5N and the fake sounds are pretty cool and I think will become standard of all EV performance cars in the future.
Tesla is on a whole different level. No current EV maker can match Tesla's combination of price/features/performance/charging infrastructure/software/full self driving.
Good race. But tbh, ioniq 5N is a direct competitor to the Model Y performance as they are both crossovers. The upcoming Ioniq 6N will be a true competitor for the Model 3 performance.
I don't know what setting you had for the 5N or if it's because of the surface, but the car is consistently in the 11.2-11.3 range for ¼ mile in the hands of others across the world. So you've lost 0.3 seconds somewhere in each run.
@@boost331 Did I want something more? I'm just surprised they were so out of the results of the others. @CaliSteve169 we are talking about straight line performance not a track this is a drag race and 11.1 on 1/4 is always 11.1 no matter if you're a truck or a civic
Now imagine this on the road trying to do a little stoplight to stoplight run. (Yeah yeah shame on me right). In the N you just need to ask the other car to hold on for a minute while you push 17 buttons, flip screens, change modes, and enter the 1980s nintendo cheat code before you launce. Or you could be in ANY other normal vehicle and just hit the gas.
@@avis1978True, and you can also program any of the custom N modes that you create to pop up with a push off a button. You can also set one of the N buttons to activate launch control, if you wish. Pressing one button for M mode and then the other for launch control takes a fraction of a second.
@@avis1978 So, based on what other people keep erroneously insisting about needing to use NGB with Launch Control when you really can't, I played around this weekend, and now I'm convinced that half the review channels doing launches don't even really have it in Launch Control. It's a two-step process, and just because you've cleared the first half doesn't mean you've successfully engaged it. So it's possible that they really are getting the NGB button to work, but the fact that it does means that Launch Control isn't really active. When you press the "activate" button, that just makes it ready, not active. A small LC logo appears at the top of the screen. But then once you press the brake to the floor and then the accelerator, a big box pops up telling you it's active and to let off the brake to launch. When that box pops up, NGB does nothing. I figured out that you CAN have Launch Control active, but it still won't engage when you press the brake and the accelerator. That's likely because one of the settings doesn't comply. And if that's the case, it's possible that the NGB button might work -- although I still think that it won't. Like the Launch Control, just because you press the NGB button doesn't necessarily mean that NGB is engaged. It's only active if the countdown timer pops up. I figured that out because I have two custom N modes, one identical to the standard one but with the sound active, and the other identical to that except that the suspension and the ESC are turned down to normal (I use that for rough roads and freeways). I can successfully press the "activate" button for the Launch Control in either mode and the LC logo pops up, but since the Launch Control requires ESC to be set to Sport or Off, if I'm in my second custom mode, pressing the brake and the accelerator won't activate it. But if I switch to my first custom mode, it works fine. So I'm willing to bet that half the channels that think that they're using Launch Control really aren't. That would partly account for the discrepancies in the launch times.

@@JohnLee-db9zt but why track an EV? The whole point of tracking your vehicle is to improve your lap times after each session, unlike a gas car each lap the SOC will decrease leading to slower times each session. Your skill might improve but your lap times won’t reflect it, you’ll also eat through tires like crazy trying to hustle 5000 pounds around a track and you’ll be lucky to get a few good laps before you’ll need to recharge. In a gas car your times will stay consistent and even improve as you shed extra weight from consuming the fuel in your tank.

2. After some adjustment, I like them. I ride motorcycles so it's nothing unusual for me really. You just can't rest your fingers on them, or else they stick
3. 100%. No plans on tracking the Tesla. That is what the s1000rr is for :)
4. I test drove a 21 M3LR. Didn't like the look or road noise.
@@mstegs5477 had mine since early August and no regrets. It will never see track as I already have a dedicated car for that. Amazing daily...with FSD, auto self park, and just blistering straightline power (up to 100 mph). I think the model Y performance is a better comparison.
It is, but have to run what they have.

On EVs, range has not so much to do with weight. It's mainly air resistance, and the N being much taller than the Model 3 needs more energy to go through the air.

People miss the point on the Tesla. Even if you track your car, that’s 1% of your car usage - if not less.

@@uptoolayte1 correct they did but at 80 percent SOC, 10.9 is still pretty good. If that Tesla was above 90 percent SOC, it would have done 10.8.
Finally, a comparison that is relevant for US buyers... thanks!
N is better over all performance

Use the Dragy from here on out. It’s most accurate device
You should press the boost button on the Ioniq.
Next time do a track run. Also do a brake test. 🤓

In reality, you're comparing a model y competitor to model 3. I would hope it is quicker. Can't compare apples to apples yet so I get it.
@4literv6 hyundai built a plant in Georgia for this reason. Good try though.

@@cabal3747 we are dealing here with people that has no clue 😄
Spot on! Hyundai is all Korean gimmicks! Hyundai fan boys really do exist!

Well, most wealthy Koreans buy Tesla stocks, not Hyundai stocks, I wonder why 🤔
That is interesting huh it sound like a real engine
N stands for Nasty looking
The Tesla is a great commuter, but too souless. I greatly prefer the Ioniq 5 N for fun dynamics.
You're right, my '24 M3P has no soul....but it's got balls.
5N is already plenty fast it's pointless to go even faster, i think, lol
The Tesla is a better deal with the tax incentives. Why would anyone spend so much money on a Hyundai? I don't care that it beats a model 3 on the Nurburgring, It's uglier and still a Hyundai.
I'd still have the N. Tesla is to much of a reps car for me. IT's the BMW 3 series replacement.
6:44 Tesla decreases their prices more than they increase them.
That should be a good thing for new shoppers.
Ionic 5 N only has 220 miles of range ! Thats a joke!
