Honest question, do you really need it when other cars basically self drive on the freeway? I guess I spend most of my time there, so that's more important than street driving IMHO.
Way more practical? Because you have less space inside? Or because of the lower level of comfort (poorer chassis), the lack of a head-up display, the lack of a front display, the blinker in the steering wheel rim, the useless sign recognition or the longer charging time?

If our pricing variance between these 2 cars was as little as it is in the UK, I would buy the 5N. Here in the USA, the Hyundai is almost $20K more than the Model 3 P (after tax credit) so it's hard to justify that much more for the Hyundai.
Thanks for the video! Did go for the 24 M3P and the main reason was the cost. As it was (the equivalent of)15K EUR less here in Sweden compared to the 5N. It's funny, these are the exact two cars that I'm considering to eventually replace my beloved Focus RS. I was surprised to hear that the same engineer developed both the RS and the 5N. I too am leaning toward the Ionic, but as I'm retiring next month, I may not be able to afford it. I have a feeling I'll be pretty happy with whichever I end up with.

I test drove both. I thought the Ioniq was accomplished but too much like a complicated PlayStation. I would go for the new Model S Performance without a doubt. It is so beautiful to drive in my view. But it’s great to have this option.
I kept waiting for you to discuss auto self driving in your test/review of these two cars. It never came. That was the biggest reason I stayed with Tesla when I bought a new EV a couple of months ago. My first Tesla was a 2021 model Y with full self drive. It worked OK but it was far from being a full self drive. I test drove a 2024 Tesla Model Y earlier this year and full self drive was much much better. Still not full self drive, but to me it is very very close. So I bought another model Y. The fact that they cut the price and loaned me the money at .9% interest did not hurt my enthusiasm for the car either. Just like last weekend I am going to drive 111 miles to my girlfriends house tomorrow when I get off work. It is on a major freeway which will be fairly open driving, but some traffic. The car does almost all the driving. This means for me that it is much much more relaxing to drive than a non Tesla. Both of my Tesla's were made in my home State, California. Oh, and when I needed to add a little bit of charge it was super easy to find and use a Tesla supercharger. Where do you charge your Hyundai? Likely much less certain than the ten close by charging Tesla superchargers that were on my car screen when I looked. That is unless Hyundai has made a deal with Elon to use the Tesla superchargers. And finally, I had almost no repairs on my last Tesla. When I did need something it was free. Most of the time they came out to my house to fix it.

In Australia the 5N is $35,000 AUD more than the M3…..Been as huge sales disappointment here as they have completely messed up the price point. As good as it is, they need to get that sorted ASAP before a multitude of really great performance focused Chinese cars (Volvo EX30 Twin, Xpeng G6 performance) hit the market and make it even harder to opt for the 5N. At $80,000 AUD, the M3 will more than satisfy most daily drivers who like hitting the lights hard….
Since both cars have similar speed performance, I would consider a) range b) kw consumption c) price . At the end of the days these are both daily cars.

Which one do I vote for? Come on, ask us a question with a real dilemma between the two answers. Here, there is no dilemma at all. I vote for the 5N because it is CLEARLY superior in EVERY aspect to the Tesla M3P.
The Tesla, hands down. 1) Where I live charger networks and dealer support for ANY Hyundai EV is poor. 2) The 5N looks more "exciting", but guaranteed it will look older much faster: design is much too busy. 3) Those "gadgets" will become boring quickly, no doubt. 4) Real-world software support is no contest: it's the software, stupid. For daily driving, STILL, nobody's close. Both great cars, but one - as a real product - is much further ahead. And it doesn't have to shout to be heard. Maybe the next 5N iteration? Lighter, more support, not as much as the shiny new thing, but something you can live with for years?
I got the Model 3 Performance but I think the 5N just came out after I got it. Or reviews at least, it does look fun and has space to boot, pretty cool

Fam, dogs, … fits our life better than the model 3 or Y. Especially coming from two previous decades of sports cars.
Y is considerably more practical. But otherwise you're on point. Also, Hyundai's Achilles heel remains weight and efficiency + performance in winters. They need to get better at the "electric" part of the EV even though they have the "vehicle" part down.
@@abhinavcj1 re: practicality, my family found the ioniq 5 setup far better in the back seats. The back trunk was a wash to us. A real frunk would be great, but not giving up the driving feel and persona for a frunk. I also prefer Apple Carplay, fits my walled garden if preference quite well.

@RogerMarin-f2w Do you miss the lighter weight and agility of the RS3? I've got a Golf R Mk8 and thinking of getting a 5N, but concerned about losing the agility especially on roundabouts and tight cornering. Golf R corners like its on rails.
@@ajmark2031 in fairness, I do miss that a bit; the 5N is the biggest vehicle I've ever owned and it's not as tossable but it still handles great and the power is immediate and incredible; and I used to have a 2012 911 Turbo S too!
@@ajmark2031I own a Golf 8R and an 5N.
The 5N is better, much more grip at the frontaxle, better rotation into corners, much more fun. The shift mode feels also better in the 5N. Go for a testdrive and find out.
@@MotionBerlinR thanks, good to hear that. I have a 5 N on order and it arrives in 2 weeks.
@@ajmark2031 Congrats! Pretty sure you will love it. I have never driven the RS3 but I think cornering and car rotation is similar to the Golf R. Even the 5N is much havier, the balance is so much better. No engine weight on the front anymore and so much grip, the tail is a bit loose and by using the throttle you can play with it. It‘s good to control but I recommend to start with ESC on. Shift mode even it‘s emulated feels perfect.
Important to know!!!: Speedlimit warning is enabled everytime you start the car. You can turn it off by holding the mute button on the steering wheel for 3sec.
Another good thing I got explained from a user: holding the blue button (Eco,Normal,Sport) will switch to N mode.
So you can use the left N button for custom 1 and 2 instead of N mode and custom 1.
Which RS 3 do you come from?
Please let us know about your first impressions and stay safe.
Had my N for a week. Performance blue. Fabulous. Love it so far. I had a launch Project 45 Ioniq for 3 years. Like the looks. And think the N really improves it. The gears are just “mad”. Such fun. I understand why someone would buy the M3P, but do prefer the N.

@@lighthousesaunders7242 and the charger network!
More fun... and with better heat management for battery and motors. Oh and brakes.
The 5 N already fixed that, see track reviews.
The better heat management is a great asset on track, but it comes with a real-world penalty to aerodynamics, which is undesirable on the road - where the vast majority of these cars will stay.
@@BlazeFirereignThat's right. So, Hyundai is preparing the Ioniq6N. Better battery, better battery management system, better aerodynamics. Next year's "EV of the year" will be occupied by the Ioniq6N.

Quit calling the model 3 heavy. An M3 competition xdrive weighs the same but wouldn't be called heavy.
Is someone feeling sensitive about their weight? Maybe you can paint your Model 3 with vertical stripes; I hear it has a slimming effect.
It doesn't weigh the same. They are close but the m3 is lighter and bmw damping system and X drive differential system is levels above the model 3. Remember on paper weight only matters if u can feel it. with the bmw u can't
@PEACEOUTXX1 literally look it up. A bmw m3 competition xdrive does weigh more. But I do agree with u that the way it feels and ultimately handles is more important than a weight value alone. Tesla EVs are very comparable in weight to similar ICE vehicles and it's so annoying how reviewers always lie about this.
@@b-lonmusk yea u should watch Chris harris on joe rogan. He talks about the new bmw M cars and says the M engineers are magicians when it comes to their suspension and dampening system.
M3 is far above a M3P.
Chris Harris is also enthusiastic about the handling of the 5N
Why do you consider the Tesla to be heavy? Can you name any other 4 door 5 passenger sedan with 450+ HP in this price range that weighs less? For the power it has it is actually quite light for this class of vehicle.
It's called driving dynamics. Like chris harris said " weight only matters if u can feel it" some cars do a better job with the damping and suspension system then others.
In Australia, I picked the Tesla M3P. There’s much bigger price gap here with the I5N almost $30K more. I did drive the N on track at N Festival in Sydney, and I have tracked the Tesla. I think the I5N is more track centric, whereas the Tesla is more road oriented with track capability. I don’t have a problem with the indicators on the steering wheel, very easy to get used to, and we have lots of roundabouts here too. Albert Biermann is a name that German performance car fans might already recognise from his time at the helm of BMW's M Division during a golden era that produced icons like the E46 M3 and E39 M5, but it's his more recent work within Hyundai which has earnt him recent acclaim. Having joined Hyundai in 2015 to head up a new, grass-roots performance division under the N brand, Biermann explains exactly what he and his team have been up to over the last four years, and why this is such an important cornerstone moment for performance car design and engineering.
I bought the 3 performance in the 🇺🇸, with the tax credit a 3 year lease $405 per month and 510 hp
I did the same, less than $50k out the door…on the road the Tesla is miles ahead of this or any other car for the money or class!

Ioniq 5N without question
Wow, I can't believe some people are now picking the Ioniq 5N over the performance Tesla model 3's now. They have come a long way.
Its because a lot of people yearn for gear changes and noise, even if they are fake.
Thing is one of them is an appliance and one has been built by a performance car manufacturer. Teslas are good transport. But it's noticeable that BMW, Porsche, Audi and now Hyundai who all make genuine performance car models in different market segments have managed to make 'fun' to drive EVs. That while they may actually be a little slower in a straight line vs Tesla and in terms of range have less...but are all good handling engaging vehicles to steer.
@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418 of which most drivers care less about. They want a bit of fun when hitting the go pedal and then they want range. Tesla delivers both. N5 not so much.
@@GuiGabois Tesla have first mover/early adopter advantage...doesn't actually mean the cars are actually 'good' as drivers machines. Their rep is poor because they always have some form of dynamic compromise or inexplicable cabin design. I'm now seeing more Porsche, Audi and BMW EVs on the roads than Teslas. Obviously worldwide location impacts that but for example in the UK BMWs are probably the most common manufacturer. EG Alfa has actually been making fine cars for the last 8 years but hardly anyone buys em due to their rep. I love my M3P. It's so much fun to drive. The Ioniq 5 N seems terrific fun as well but I don't like external looks and I'm skeptical of the fake sounds.
Im on my last cooper s cant stand the new electric mini, on the whole electric cars dont seem that engaging the 5N looks like the perfecct choice its more practical than the Tesla but looks like it may be fun to drive as well. frankly i would go for the new volvo ex30 over the tesla.

I test drove both. I thought the Ioniq was accomplished but too much like a complicated PlayStation. I would go for the new Model S Performance without a doubt. It is so beautiful to drive in my view. But it’s great to have this option.
5:23 absolutely agree. Tried the Xpeng G6 LR and the was a huge delay in throttle response.
Ioniq 5n in black is really gorgeous. If I had the money, that would be it
Excellent review. Yes, Albert Biermann, the former head and founder of BMW's N dividision oversaw development of the Hyundai Ioniq 5N ~7 years ago so yeah, it'll drive really nicely. Keep up the excellent work.

i got the tesla (US) due to it being $18k cheaper, 37% higher max. range (even if you 'don't drive that much,' never hurts to have better range, period), 800 lbs. lighter, cleaner look (in/out), and i didn't want to be a poser with fake engine noises 😂

I own a 5 N, but I'm the first to give the Tesla recognition for the things that are better. Which don't matter much to me, that something else.

In Denmark and Germany, we also have lots of roundabouts, and after a few weeks, I have completely adapted to the indicator buttons on the steering wheel. When you hold the steering wheel the ideal way, at the quarter-to-three position, it's easy to put your thumb in the right position every time.
For me, Tesla is definitely the most efficient and sensible EV of the two.
Absolutely the Model 3. It's not the better performance car, but I think the 5N looks so goofy in real life. It's too big to be a hatchback, and too small to be an SUV.
