    As an owner of a standard Ioniq 5 awd (320bhp) i will say i have never wanted a car in the last 20 years as much as i do the 5N. Thing is a monster. Its not just the performance and fun but the cost to run is astonishing, at home charging is less than a fiver a week and in the last 5 months of me owning mine i have covered 8500 miles and only needed to public charge once. Its cost me a tad over £80 in ''fuel'' for 8500 miles.

    I had a 5N for the afternoon. It's a total game changer & I'd have one in an instant if it wasn't so pricey when new. Couple of years when it's dropped from its 67K (with the roof, as here) to somewhere nearer half that & I'll be getting one. It is sooooooo much fun to drive. And if you think it compares to a Tesla, well, I think you don't really get driving. A 5N would roast any Tessie around a track. If all you get from driving is the whole traffic-light- grand-prix borefest then, fair play, each to their own. It's a bit of a shame the presenter didn't take the time to suss how to pronounce the name (Hi-Un-Day, not Die) but other than that, he seemed to gel with the car a treat.

    To add some balance to all the people bashing this im a self proclaimed petrol head I’ve owned an array of cars and bikes over the years, from ZX10R’s to RS4’s, clio RS200, caged track cars, m140i’s and lastly one of arguably the best drivers cars to come out in recent years the GR Yars… anddd I’ve got a 5N on order.
    It’s an unbelievable car, as someone that gets bored in a normal slow petrol car I thought this would be the same but it’s just not, it’s fun, fast and practical, it slides and squats out of corners, it’s deadly fast in a straight line and overall is significantly better than some of the other cars in my list..

Only thing I'd change on the 5N is make it BRZ sized as we need a proper sports car although kudos for them making a midsized SUV that can do this. I'll stick with my tricked out supercharged BRZ that is plenty fun for now. As for the car, love the Ioniq 5N but the infrastructure is still very much a limiting factor, I’ll stick to my i30N for now, but a fantastic effort by Hyundai to tempt us enthusiasts from our ICE powered steeds, and surely a gamechanger in the electric performance car landscape.

    This is literally the ONLY EV I have any sort of interest in... Hyundai really did understand what people who enjoy driving need from something electric. Still way to expensive but it's certainly a stepping stone for every other car company to look at what Hyundai have done and learn from it

    The 5N certainly looks impressive and the 600+ BHP does it's best to 'hustle' the 2.5 Tonne beastie. However, even clever software can't overcome the the laws of Physics (yet..). It's £65K price tag puts it out of reach for many enthusiastic motorists. Having looked at one at my local Dealer, I don't want one. It's just too big for me. I'm all for smaller 'nippy' cars and will be sticking with my i20N

    • @onehorsepower
      @onehorsepower หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ThePedroDB it's 2,2 tonne. And physics is more then about weight. Centre of gravity = lower than an i30N. Most of that mass is close to the middle to instead of outside the front or rear axle. Weight distribution = perfect 50/50. I was a weight snob, but this car changed my mind, it's great to drive.
      I understand it's a lot of money, but it's the interior size of an X5M or a Cayenne and performs better then any of those, cannot compare to an i20N...

      @@jamesengland7461 None of my 'points', as you put it, were disproved. I stated my opinion and that still stands. You're welcome to yours. The £65K price puts it well out of the reach of a lot of motorists. As a result they're not exactly flying off the forecourt at my local Hyundai Dealer. If it's anything like the majority of EVs, the depreciation may be pretty horrific too. If you think it's such a 'bargain', then by all means go buy one

    • @ThePedroDB
      @ThePedroDB หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@onehorsepower Thanks for the weight correction. If you wanted to be really pedantic, it's 2225 kg. Whatever. At almost twice the weight of my i20N, it's still an overly heavy, large car. Hence, why it's not for me. I never mentioned weight distribution - just sheer mass - and, last I heard, the Laws of Physics still stand. I didn't compare the 5N to my i20N, I simply said I'll be be keeping mine.
      To be clear, the 5N is the only EV (to date) I have an interest in but it's price puts it out of my reach. It's also vastly more than I need for a daily driver. When improved Battery tech and higher production volumes allow Hyundai to produce a smaller, lighter, cheaper model, - it'll be on my radar for sure. Alpine A290 wasn't of interest...

    Torque vectoring does make a difference. Add that to RWD-biased AWD high powered motors and we got a recipe for fast and nice driving EVs. When battery packs get lighter, they will easily beat many high performance ICEVs.

    • @flashsushi1843
      @flashsushi1843 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@purwantiallan5089 it's a natural evolution: ABS, TC, ESC, brake based torque vectoring and then torque vectoring.
      Torque vectoring is a technology that improves a vehicle's handling and stability by selectively distributing power between the two wheels on an axle. It works by applying more power to the outside wheel during a turn, which helps to rotate the vehicle and improve its cornering ability.
      Here are some of the benefits of torque vectoring:
      * Improved handling: Torque vectoring can help to reduce understeer and oversteer, making the vehicle more predictable and easier to control.
      * Increased stability: By applying power to the outside wheel, torque vectoring can help to stabilize the vehicle and prevent it from sliding or spinning.
      * Enhanced traction: Torque vectoring can help to improve traction on slippery surfaces, such as snow or ice.
      * Improved fuel efficiency: Torque vectoring can help to reduce fuel consumption by optimizing the power delivery to the wheels.
      * Enhanced driving experience: Torque vectoring can make the driving experience more engaging and enjoyable.
      Overall, torque vectoring is a valuable technology that can significantly improve a vehicle's performance and safety. It is becoming increasingly common in high-end vehicles, and it is likely to become even more widespread in the future.

    I drove the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 Performance back to back with Hyundai Ioniq 5N with my wife and daughter. We all love speed. All of us agreed that the Hyundai Ionic 5N is a much more planted on the road, it's a better drivers car, more composed at speed, with lest neck snapping speed from standstill compared to Tesla, but it covers speed at ease. What broke the deal for us and we decided to take the Tesla Model Y Performance instead is the ridiculously uncomfortable rear seats. They're like a wooden bench. My family felt their bottoms and backs aching just after 20 min test drive. I was heartbroken, but hats off to Hyundai for making amazing drivers car, wish it wouldn't have an Achilles heel, but it does, and a big one if you want to have anyone sit in the back for any amount of time. Please Hyundai, stop making rock hard seats in the rear, make them as comfortable as the front ones and you have a machine that does everything for a driver and for family.

    I believe that the issue with EVs is still their disposability. They are like your latest cellphone, the best until the new one is out. That is not the case with classic cars, they are more appealing because of what they accomplished in their time and the real connection with the driver without “fakery” like a precision machine carefully crafted. Perhaps EVs will eventually get there once the technology is fully matured and the Ionic in pushing those boundaries, however we’ve yet more to go. Great piece from Rory as usual.

      New cars in general, not really EVs anymore, are becoming disposable after a few years, now. See Stellantis.
      There are also plenty of old EVs left (Nissan Leaf and the pre 2016 Model S) on the road despite a good bit of battery degradation/range loss from earlier tech.
