It’s time for another epic petrol vs electric drag race!
We’ve got Mat lining up in his Audi RS7 Performance long-termer, and we have the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N alongside him! You may think this is a strange match-up, but these two contenders are actually more similar than you may expect. Let’s take a closer look at the stats.
Starting with the Audi, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 630hp and 850Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels, weighing in at 2,065kg. As new, it costs upwards of £133,000!
Then alongside it we have the IONIQ 5 N. It has two electric motors, and combined they put down 650hp and 770Nm of torque! Being electric it’s pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 2,235kg, and brand new it only costs £65,000.
So the IONIQ may have more power, but it’s up on weight and well down on torque! Will that prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

An electric that's slower at lower speeds and catches up at higher speed is actually a new thing, hats off to hyundai for that top end pull
I have a feeling it’s to save driveshafts and so on
it's like creating a skyrim mod to make the world more *immersive*
its not. its because for those test they were in the "gear simulation" mode for the hyundai..
hyundai is even faster at lower speeds due to the instant torque. but as usual youtubers love to create drama for the viewer
I was going to comment on this as well. It seems like it's a change in the last couple of years with most electric car brands. They do more than just get off the line fast. It could be because the ice cars are being geared differently to make them more competitive off the line.
We’re in a world where an Audi performance car is racing against a Hyundai
We are in a world where VW faces a financial crisis while EV makers have two figure growth.
What u expect... It's just an Audi! It would be weird if an Hyundai race an BMW or Porsche and win

Here for the Hyundai Ioniq 5N...that's a beast. Looks amazing in that Performance Blue as well... great video
Two things stand out: 1) In the races I didn't notice any mention of the Boost button that gives you an extra 40+ horses for ten seconds; 2) I seem to remember that there is a mode you can use with the Hyundai that allows it to brake better than in other modes. And one bonus thing: I'm glad you clarified that if the Hyundai is doing gear shift impressions then it isn't using it's full power.
Your right, the i5n was driven handycapped 🙊
Launch mode is full power the button won’t work
@@KeyBrosUK Yes, but the roll race would have been different.
You can adjust the amount of regen braking too - there are settings for Auto, but I usually drive around in level 3. It has 6g's of regen braking before the disc brakes cut in. Having said that, the Audi pulled up so quickly!
@@chrismcalister1113 that doesn’t matter when braking is full brake force, the limiting factors are tyres and weight in any full on braking situation regardless of car. Regen won’t help you stop quicker on full braking.

To be honest i rather want drive Hybrid cars instead of THIS,just give it 2.0L Turbo in front 400Hp then 2X 100Hp engines in back and it would be faster/lighter.
Something like 918 Spyder,SF90,Revuelto,AMG One.
Something that looks cool and its fast.
@@joe125ful Why are you bringing up cars that cost over $500,000 against a Hyundai that costs less than $70,000? Some of the cars you mentioned cost millions. The fact that you have to bring up million dollar hyper cars to compare against the Hyundai that cost $60,000 should tell you something.
I've always been a petrolhead who has been hating on trend of EVs, majorily because combustion engines are being replaced by it. The other day I've rented a Hyundai Ioniq but to my surprise, I've really enjoyed driving in it. Engine sound was absent but still was fun because it was really torquey and also it handled very well (One pedal or i-pedal was super convenient in heavy traffic as well). If that was just a regular Ioniq, I wonder how fun Ioniq 5N would actually be, except that 8-bit revving sound. I'm planning to sign up for Hyundai Driving Experience to actually test it out. I don't think I will actually buy an EV for myself but I think I would always choose an Ioniq over any underpowered N/A 4 cylinder cars from now on. N/A 4 cylinder cars are dead ass boring anyway at least for me.
No clue why y'all are shitting on either car and just enjoy the greatness that both brings
Because Audis are trash! Overengineered and still slow as fuck
One of them is a great car, the other is only suitable for less than a 3rd of the population…
As an EV owner very happy with his choice, I must give props to Audi for that launch control, something finicky like a Lambo would not have beat an EV off the line every time!
Cause all them bmw and merc bois creep out of their holes
*unreliability both bring😂 Junk German and Junk Korean cars are fisher price nonsense they last 3yr and everythings broke
That braking difference was massive. I know the i5N has better brakes than the normal i5 and they are _definitely_ going to be smaller and less powerful than the RS7s, but even so that was a *MASSIVE* difference. I wonder, is there a braking setting in the i5N that wasn't selected that would've improved that? If this was filmed on the same day as the other i5N races, then was this later in the day? If so, then the previous full bore stops might've faded the pads, or something. I guess types of tires are also going to be pretty different between the two cars, as well as the size of the contact patch.
I know for EV tires they are just never as sticky as ICE car tires since the EVs depend so much on having low rolling resistance to optimize their range. That might've also contributed to this poor display of braking performance.
A braking setting? You mean regin vs normal?
There is a different setting, which has 0.6g of regenerative breaking, which would add to braking performance. So that might have been inactive. But we don't know for sure.
@@CerberusTenshi pretty sure your right, it looks like the breaking from the i5 was pure mechanical!
Definitely tires is the difference
I was wondering if the brake on the RS7 is a ceramic brake. The brake on the Ioniq 5N is better than the normal, but it's still a cast iron brake. The key is the regenerative brake, which reaches 0.6G. The results won't change much with the ceramic break on the Ioniq 5N, but I think the gap will be reduced a lot. Oh and... the regenerative brake on the Ioniq 5N can be adjusted in the settings menu. If I'm not mistaken, it can be set in 3 steps. and can even turn it off. I wonder how the regenerative brake setting went in this test.
Great race! That RS7 has some power off the line. Still wasn't quite enough for the Ioniq. I still can't believe how fast this Hyundai is
The new benchmark, IONIQ 5N

2. A m4 comp xdrive is faster then both these times. They do an 11.0 QM vs these times of 11.3 .. I've seen the 5N go as low as 11.1 but it still isn't faster then a m4 comp xdrive. Plus from a roll is where the m4 has a way better 60-130.. the 5N can't beat an xdrive m4

He may have used it but they never said if he used it off the line or later in the race, or if at all (he probably did, but would be nice to know exactly how and when). I have seen other acceleration tests where they found it is better to use it on the latter half of the 1/4 mile race as the car already has plenty of torque off the line. If he was using it at the beginning that might explain why the Audi started to catch up on the half mile road race.

M5cs will win coz it did the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds, so Rs7 performance is always 11.3 seconds
@@nathi4158yep M5 CS is the fastest car in this segment
Why is it that Matt and Carwow always seem to target German brands in their comparison videos but never their own British brands like Aston Martin, Lotus, McLaren, or Jaguar? Has anyone else noticed this pattern? It’s pretty obvious they avoid making fun of their own country’s car brands and instead focus on dragging German cars, often comparing them to South Koreans. The bias is clear, and it makes the comparisons feel less genuine.
Perhaps. But it may just be that there are a lot more German cars available to drag race. For example, Aston Martin and McLaren are super car territory. Whereas, for example this Audi, it's a high-end car but it's not super car territory there's a lot more than sold than the other two. Lotus, sales of those got to be really low and Jaguar doesn't have very many cars either. But you might be right.
Looks like the engineers at Hyundai took that "What you think i'm gonna let you roll in a Hyundai?" comment from FnF3 to heart.
£65,000 for a Hyundai 🤯🤯
a performance EV. Look for what it is
Worth every penny when you compare it to other cars in its price range.
Be worth about 3 quid in 5 years 😂
Pile of crap
@@exempli646a performance EV that loses to a 4 banger fwd Civic at Nurburgring 😅
@@CaliSteve169 kinda expected tbh, it's almost a ton heavier lmao. Power only gets you so far.
That rs7 is crazy fast and that ionic walks away at certain points that little thing is madness
IONIQ 5 N is one of the best cars ever made
Hey Matt. Can we see how many miles each car has in the 'tank' at the start and the finish of the races so we can see which is more economical when thrashed.. ie, how many miles it takes off the range of tank and battery..
Who would have guessed in a million years! That a Hyundai would compete and even best a high performance Audi!😂
Matt....when you do the break tests you should actually line up a wall of cardbord boxes.....great fun to see what cars fail
I would love to see some auto cross style races. Straight line speed is great, but isn’t the best indicator of how fun a performance car is to drive.
Could we see race g80 m3cs vs rs7 competition? Cause on Sam Carlegion channel m3cs was faster then the N
5:27 WEll Well well 😂😂
Who would have imagined Hyundai/Kia would become the third largest automaker in global sales. They have come a long way.
I recently saw a 5 N in a slightly fluorescent red... looked insane. Not the same as the factory red, it was probably wrapped, but they should definitely do that color from factory.
My benchmark for a fast car is still the E92 M3, which covered the 1/4 in 12.4 seconds. Considering that these things are pushing over 600hp and have AWD, it makes me think that the lil Bimmer was simply sublime for its time.
That V8 was a gem 💎
When a friend took me for a ride in his fast Tesla, I was wondering how can any normal driver live with this insane performance, on average British roads.
I had driven quick cars myself, but THAT was on a different level. No wonder you have to try them on a runway or a racetrack.
Was buddy using the nboost button on the steering wheel? Gives the 5 an axtra 40hp temporaily
I watched the Hyundai last do 3.2 sec for 0-60 miles/hr on Motorweek at the Mason Dixon Raceway. Neat car that one.
this one is so great. had me on the edge of my seat!
