As to your point about the vitamins you can get them all if you eat organ meats. Deforestation has to do with big business making a profit on the trees and then selling the land to industrial farmers, so your grievance is with big business. You state we should not kill animals just because we are intellectually more advanced but then you use that same argument to justify killing plants. DOUBLE STANDARD. Slavery was not promoted by the Bible in fact many Christians pushed back on the idea of slavery, so the ruling powers used specific passages to manipulate people to justify the use of slavery. Also this dude you are debating is not that great but he is destroying you with simple ideas. I have seen many of your videos and love how you do not support killing animals but do support killing babies which are also animals. This makes no sense. DOUBLE STANDARD.

I really liked that part at 6:56 when you were like, "You don't eat any fruits or vegetables? Where do you get your vitamin C? Vitamin E? Vitamin A?" Hehe, that is the real question, NOT "You don't eat meat? Where do you get your protein?" Cos plants are the CREATORS of protein.
Because the world is cruel, and if we are animals we should be judged how we judge animals. No one judges humans to the same regard. We aren't animals and to argue that we are the same is silly. We don't say the lion is evil for killing the gazelle. Before you respond with "they kill it for food." Not always. Lions will kill animals just because they are bored. You don't consider the lion to be evil because it is acting out it's nature. Yet Ed claims that humans are evil when we kill animals because animals and humans are the same. Which is it? Are we the same? In which case either the Lion is immoral for needlessly killing the gazelle and should be held accountable, or the human is not evil for killing animals because we are merely acting according to our nature. Or are we different? In which case we are held to entirely different moral stands.
@@ianwinslett5013 Lions aren't evil for killing gazelle in the same way a severely mentally disabled person wouldn't be judged as evil if they harmed another person. They can't conceptualize morality like regular humans can. That's why we hold ourselves to a higher moral standard than wild animals. To use lions tho as an argument is a naturalistic fallacy, the most basic logical fallacy in the book. It's a shit argument.
@@cynicalidealist11So humans and animals are different? Side note: I've never met a mentally disabled person that didn't understand that murder is wrong. Unless you count psychopaths as mentally disabled. Also I'm not so sure I can let you get away with that. No. I can't. When the hell are we releasing murdering mentally disabled people to the street? Pretty sure we still lock them up. Coming from the person who called my logic faulty...
@@ianwinslett5013 we are different or rather we have the capacity to be different. Lions operate on "instinct," humans have the capacity to operate above instinct they have the will as well as the intellect, but we can also be self conscious. We can look within ourselves think about our own actions and behaviors. I say capacity because a lot of humans operate at a very low level consciousness, when a desire enters their mind they do not use the will and intellect rather they let physical desires dictate what they do and how they act without second thought. A lion doesn't even have that ability. When the "desire" enters their brain they obey on instinct.
"You're making the people feel like they're immoral" Questioning your morality does not make you a bad person, it has the potential to make you a more thoughtful person for looking inside yourself and asking if your beliefs are consistent, logical, credible, and most importantly, compassionate.
Just out of curiosity how do you feel about the topic of abortiom ? Just curious if you share the same empathy for the pain of an innocent child terminated over 90% of the time out of convenience, As you do for animals killed over 90% of the time to provide either nutrition, clothing, or other life saving needs like vaccines.
@@Lave_cake hey! I just want to share a piece of my story with you! So I've been pro-choice my whole life until I had a first trimester abortion. Although I was on a very early stage of pregnancy, I felt a grief like never before, two years I spent my days mostly crying and grieving over the life that I have taken because of my ignorance. I used to think it's ok until I've been through that myself. After this experience I've made a decision to become vegetarian and I'm going to transition to veganism one day. I discovered that an unborn child is a living being according to my own morals by breaking this morals. And then I was able to see that I actually believe all living sentient beings have right to be alive and life is to be cared for, celebrated, loved and treated with respect.
God though. Lions though. Plants though. Bible though. Taste though. Culture though. Protein though. My canine teeth though. Everyone thinks they’re so clever and original and they all literally say the same thing.
@Sabaman bob this is just sick. What if i would like to spend my money on a slave (which is not impossible in some countries), would that be justified to you?
And culture. Religious culture. More vegans need to speak out.. we are such followers. Humans hate to be alone, I think that's why meat eaters get aggressive sometimes, they don't want it to change the other way
International Love what I want as a meat eater is for meat consumption to stay legal. You have the choice to exercise your morals and eat plant products and I have the same choice with animal products.
so if a dog could grow its legs back, cutting them off and eating them would be fine? So skin grows back, can we cut the skin off an animal and eat it?
@@icikle There aren't making that argument but the one that they are is that it's more morally justifiable from the fact that trees have the ability to regenerate limbs. In this instance at least he's not taking into consideration the full moral justification but part of it ("collateral" damage in terms of "property" rather than actual pain or trauma). He never said nor implied that it would be justifiable for dogs if they could themselves, who, unsurprisingly, aren't the same as plants.
@Eupo Nah ,ur argument is so stupid.U have no right to kill animals just for the fun or the taste. The other animals kill the other animals because that is how they survive not because they liked the taste or sth , even though so it would be still wrong your doing it cos they don't have the moral responsibility since they haven't got the conciousness as we do to specify or understand the morality
Akash Banner Sorry, was that to me? If so, I can see how this could have been confusing. I agree with Wayward Winchester, My comment was directed towards the guy in the video. Because these people bring up plants, but their food eats plants, so it's a useless argument:)
Plants are worth considering though. Certain types of plants that vegans would need to remain healthy are rather expensive or difficult to obtain for a lot of people. The plants that we grow to feed animals would still be needed to feed animals, unless we should release the animals into the wild. At which point we'd probably start killing then for coming to close to farmlands in search of food. And what about domestic animals? Ed is ok with animals eating other animals, but how would we feed our cats and dogs if we can't buy meat products? Also, science has shown that plants feel pain too.
Alright, we're gonna start with how plants "feel pain". First of all, they don't. Biologically they can not. Most people have heard of plants feeling pain but have never actually read the studies. Here is an example of a man who found that plants could "feel" thoughts. Their cells would react. www.consciouslifestylemag.com/cleve-backster-research-plants/Here is another example where it is suggested that plants can react negatively or positively to sound. wonderopolis.org/wonder/does-talking-to-plants-help-them-growHowever, plants feeling pain has NEVER been proved. There isn't a single plant that a vegan would need that they could not get locally. Except for maybe in extremely cold climates in which case they'd be shipped in. Any food can be substituted. Pets can be vegan. There is plenty vegan pet food and many cats and dogs thrive on it just fine. The fourth oldest cat was a vegan. The only issue is that it is pricier. However, veganism is about causing the least amount of harm and suffering as possible. Like Ed said, if it is a necessity, then there is moral justification. You said we'd still have to feed the plants to the animals. This is only true until the population of these animals dwindled down, which would be faster than you'd imagine. We breed these animals into existence. There isn't naturally this many of them. We grow enough grains to feed 10 billion people!! But most of it is fed to livestock.
He comes across as being patient in his own videos, when he was on a BBC debate he was aggressive in his approach and didn't let the guy who was a butcher finish his point he interrupted him so many times
Back in 88 it would have been hundreds of times harder to be vegan. It's not like today whwre there are safe spaces and everyone Cares about not upsetting someone. Back in 88 the status quo meat eaters would have had a field day with vegans like you or me. They really were all about staying ignorant, illogical, and making fun of others doing the right thing ans caring for animals and not even think or care how their meat is produced. In 1988 it would be more like 1840 where anti slave people would get laughed at and shunned by pro slavers or even killed for saving slaves compared to 2022
These debates show how much carnists have to jump around points to justify their meat-eating. One second it's nature then social contract then plants then speciesism then back to nature.
Eh, I mean, that’s the whole point of “change my mind,” is it not? You want to bring up points to try and change their mind, while the other offers their own response. I think he held himself fine but what he was saying was incredibly ignorant. It’s a shame :(

Thanks for your work to save the animals, I've been vegan sence i was 13 in 1975, over 45 years I'm 58 now. I'm reason for becoming vegan has to do with growing up on a farm in California in the 70,s I'm the youngest of 8 siblings and they are much older than me and we lived far from the city so i didn't have friends and i raised all of our animals from baby's, our pig named nixon our bull big red our cow named hefer, our goat sweet willy out sheep chickens turkey and lot's of other animals. Me job was feed them at sunrise and after school, In the morning i would walk down our dirt road and most of the animals would fallow my to the school bus and after school they would be waiting for me and all the kids and bus driver would get off and pet them, the animals were very friendly. Then they would fallow me back home every day. One day when i got off the bus the animals were acting strange and my pig nixon wasn't with them so i started the walk home but the animals wouldn't fallow me,at frist i didn't think much of it but soon got a bad feeling in my hart and started running as fast as i could. When i got closer to the house i could see a white box truck I had seen before, it was the local butcher. I could hear screaming coming from the barn when i looked in i saw my pig mr Nixon being slaughtered in the most inhumane way possible🙏 i passed out and woke up in my bedroom thinking it was a bad dream, sadly it wasn't so. I became a vegan that day and have been waiting for the world to awaken the way i did 45 years ago. Thank you for taking to people and showing a better way to live and let live. 🐑🐮🐣🐠🙏🌎✌👍

Where is it written? Where is it written? I can only believe something if it is in some book... ideally in a 2000 Year old book, that has a lot of contradictions and nonsense in it.... Ps: The vegan guy totally destroyed the other guy.
These people always forget that humans wrote religious texts. Morality isn't based on religion. Religion is based on morality. And more specifically the morality of that time. They were teachings of morality reflecting the societies and values of when they were written. People were respecting life of eachother long before the religions of today we're established. People suggesting that morality comes from religion are lazily shortcutting their own critical thinking. And that's even ignoring the picking and choosing the teachings of their religions. Law, morality, and religion are all an intertwining representation of values of the humans that make them.
YeHoVaH gave us his Torah (instructions) from above; Moses simply listened and obeyed and wrote them down. Check out the scorched mountain in Saudi Arabia. Evidence from the whole Exodus account can be found there and the authorities keep it under armed guard because they know that place is where YeHoVaH Elohim (Elohim=God, YeHoVaH is the name of Elohim) descended in fire to give his instruction.
@@shadow_ow2 Actually it was the flying spaghetti monster - the god of gods - who gave it to yehovah in the first place, who then passed it on to moses. I had an epiphany about it.
Honestly what makes no sense to me is you could use the bible to agrue veganism is right because God orginally made humans not to consume meat in the garden of eden. Just like we were first supposed to not wear clothes. You could use the bible to agrue any point. Im pretty sure religous or not God would be chill with you not eating his creations lmao. And again like Ed said many times the bible was written sooo long ago for humans in that time period when they needed meat to survive....if we listened to the bible we would still have slaves, wear certain clothes, be kosher etc. There are many things in the bible that people dont do anymore because morals change and get better. I think you can believe this even believing in God. There is a reason why it says in the bible we all "sin"...lmao nothings perfect, but we can try our best.
Ed is the best role model for discussing veganism with non vegans. On the other hand, getting a meat eater to accept the term "person" for a non human animal is probably beyond even his skills. That would require someone to teach a semester of philosophy to accomplish that.
It’s because Ed already knows what he’s going to say. These change my mind things are silly because Ed is clearly too opinionated on this subject and will never actually let anyone change his mind. How about science saying we are omnivore not vegan and not carnivores? By science we are supposed to eat both and must eat both to get everything we need to be healthy.
loganwalr that’s called an appeal to nature fallacy, not rational basis for your belief. Thanks for being a textbook example of religion and reason not going together. Also, why do you believe we are omnivores? Also an omnivore is defined as an animal that can survive off of both plant and animal matter. Omnivores don’t need to eat both. So it still doesn’t prevent you from choosing to not buy meat.
@@jaymiddleton1782 Jay Middleton om·ni·vore an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin. loganwalr you don’t need both. You’re implying humans are obligate carnivores, which isn’t true. We don’t need to eat meat to survive or thrive. The anatomical evidence tells us we are optimised for eating plant based foods. Omnivore doesn’t mean 50/50. Chimps are considered omnivores but their diet is 95-99% plant-based. The other primates in the great ape family eat a pretty vegan diet, they’re the animals most similar to us. Saying we should eat meat because we can is silly. We can eat cardboard, too. Just because we are “capable” of eating something doesn’t mean we should, by the same logic cats are omnivores because most cat food has plant material in it. You would never argue that a cat is an omnivore because it eats a bit of plant matter. It’s still a carnivore. You don’t need to eat animal products for optimal nutrition.

Yes, we are smarter than most of them but that just means that we are more morally compelled and should not harm those that it is not necessary to.
That Girl Reacts it’s still hypocritical. How can you say that everyone should reduce their consumption of meat while also saying meat is the only thing you eat. They really are mutually exclusive, you can’t claim both unless you want to be giving out advice you don’t follow yourself.
Tanner Thompson no, it isn’t. They’re not mutually exclusive. It’s perfectly normal to understand the benefits of lessening meat consumption. No one needs to stop eating meat entirely unless they want to. Literally nothing hypocritical about that, bud. Try again next time!

I don't know if you've watched the movie: "Dominion Documentary" yet but I hope you have. People who have watched that movie have ALL become vegan as have I!! Eye-opening!!
Many people don't know this but the main purpose to become vegan is because you cannot evolve into a HUMAN if you consume animals. You will still behave very animalistc in nature and cannot tap into your higher intelligence. Just look at every single person Ed talks with, he is 10x sharper and more intelligent. See many humans are still ANIMAL natured because they consume a vibration that is denser than their own. If you understand how the universe works and the work of Nikola Tesla you will see what i am talking about 100%.
N9NE I would much prefer to evolve into a bird that can fly or a dolphin in the ocean (ones that aren't tortured & captured by humans, that is). Humans consuming animals is not so much a denser vibration but the swallowing of all the suffering and anguish of the murdered animal. Also animals seem to have more of a capacity for unconditional love than humans, so who really is more evolved.... But being vegan & having great compassion for animals certainly makes you more lucid and aware (unless you're also consuming alcohol, drugs, lots of GMO chemicals etc)
We have just as much capacity for Unconditional love but we are raised different. Our food/water/air supply is systematically poisoned and our media is infiltrated by psychic manipulation techniques to keep us dumbed down and unable to access our optimal form/self. You think its just GMOs and Radiation? That's only one fraction of the coin, there's a whole world built backwards to keep you from reaching your true intelligence. This is why fasting and spending time in nature, meditation, spiritual practice away from society is extremely important. Most people don't even know who and what they are. They think they are just animals when they are so much more.
N9NE I realize all the ways people are poisoned but a lot of it's voluntarily -- vaccines, prescription drugs, horrible diets, not exercising, scoffing at plant medicine, blind trust in allopathic doctors. But animals to me have many qualities humans would do well to emulate and learn from. I do not consider them "just animals." I only wish they were all herbivores, then they would be perfect. Perhaps the ones who are carnivores is the unresolved baggage from a previous reincarnation as human that they need to work through.
Ed thanks for inspiring me to be more calm when talking to people about veganism. I get quite easily angry about it but I know that’s not the best way to get someone to listen

Seeing Through still using your smartphone device or computer are we? You are supporting the death of animals as animal products are used in these devices. Hypocrite
Seeing Through....that is true...people eat meat everyday (not all non-vegans) but then again, I would venture to bet that somewhere in the world, on EVERY given day, someone is buying a cellphone. Just because a Vegan's animal consumption is less then a non-vegan does not give a vegan the right to point a finger at someone. It is a proven fact that electronics (such as a computer, cellphone, tv, radio, etc.., etc...) are made with animal stearic acid. NO vegetable stearic acid is not the same as it's properties are not as dense with high enough tolerances to withstand pressure, heat, and friction to run these devices. Without it, your device would burn up in a matter of no time. So, let me ask you this, veganism is about reducing animal harm as practical and possible. Is it not practical and possible to live without a computer or phone or tv, etc...? Before you answer, know this....there are MANY people in this world that live without those devices and do so just fine. So, yes, you CAN live without these devices. However, the problem you will face is....WILL you live without them. Are you willing to make the hard choices for your movement? Remember, this is a device made with dead animals...intentionally...not accidently....by non-vegans. Non-vegans invented and produced these devices that are nothing more than a convenience, luxury, and indulgence in your life. It is NOT needed for life. However, vegans rely on non-vegans to kill animals to produce such items so you can live in a state of luxury. Without non-vegans....vegans could not even perform their activism on a worldwide scale on these types of social media websites (TH-cam an others). So, I am curious how you can twist the definition of veganism to suit your needs and point fingers at others that use animals differently then you do. Let me throw a couple of your arguments out, don't come back to me with the definition of veganism OR some "fallacy" excuse to exempt yourself from you own determined evils. You are using animal devices that have been PROVEN they are not needed for life...so if you use them...own up to it. Furthermore, don't use the excuse that animals are use "indirectly" in these devices...meaning....don't tell me that if people didn't eat animals that their would be no by-products available to use in these devices. This argument is nothing more than a way to place blame on someone else to exempt yourself. That is not a valid excuse especially since you have nothing to offer a substitute. So, I want to hear how you can validate using animal products not needed for life without excuses and exemptions. OK....GO!

True. I am an atheist, and even anti-theist, I've watched and read Dawkins, HItchens, Harris and other great intellectual enlighteners. Religious people are deluded, ignorant and superstitious, thereby also very illogical. I would even go as far as saying religious people are the most unethical ones, thereby having an honest and clear discussion, fact based, with logic and ethics, is really hard with a religuos person. "Debating against a smart person is hard. Debating against an ignorant person is impossible."
ShadowZZZ tbh yea. Most religions r so evil including Christianity mainly Catholicism. It’s always “don’t do this or you’ll go to hell.” “Don’t be that or you’ll burn for all eternity” and what kind of “loving god” would make u give blood sacrifices like it says in the Bible. even satanism is better than Christianity, they’re mostly all abt the earth and shit.
@@ShadowZZZ That comment was so ignorant and laughable. No you haven't read a single book your source of information consists of youtube and wikipedia. I've gone 105 days without eating meat/dairy. Wasn't too bad. At first I did it by choice, but after I watched a video by TH-camr Onision (of all people) I became disgusted by the thought of eating meat. No longer a choice but the same vain as eating a battery from my remote.....absurd.

-Cannibalism in the Andes accident was wrong? -Yes -So they should've all died? -Yes Damn Ed, I admire your patience. I couldn't bear with being part of that conversation for over 5 minutes.
He's hearing but he's not listening. Hard to watch once he became more concerned with what a book says than what his actions and what societies actions are actually causing. It's very interesting to listen to someone's response once they hit a logical contradiction/hiccup, you can always tell their current "level" of emotional and mental maturity based on their next response; they either understand and agree that they were wrong (concede), or they disagree and agree to absurdity/irrationality. For example, @38:35 - "rather than eat an already dead human-being to survive, they should have all died because cannibalism is immoral". This video was great to watch, cheers Ed!
Try not to spin this into a convoluted red herring narrative about "human life being equal to animals". This is clearly not what Ed said either as he clarified himself many times in the video. Most vegans don't think this way about humans/animals, my partner and I have been vegan for 5 years, you're confused about the point or meaning of veganism. Regardless, this topic is devoid of the very specific context and very specific logical understanding being presented in my previous comment regarding cannibalism. It's pure and simple, this is a real story. The survivors were in a plane crash, trapped in an avalanche; people died from this. The survivors had no food and had to ((eat to live)). Their only choice of food was an ((already dead)) human. The survivors horrifically had to eat (by choice) who was likely a friend, a decaying human, while trapped in an avalanche out of ((NECESSITY)) for their own survival or die the next day. The choice was purposeful death as a group or survival. Very straightforward. To be clear, I don't "care" if this interviewee chooses to die over survival because of a book he read or sanctity of life, my only thought would be "what a shame, but it's his choice". ((Choice)) is key here. However, he said, "they should have all died, not survive. This is a sin". Now, therein lies the great hypocrisy and logical inconsistency of religion and people who choose to think this way. People love to preach the sanctity of human life and "freedom of will", but the moment the narrative goes against their personal or cult belief systems they damn the other immediately and irrationally regardless of illogical inconsistencies. If the interviewee was a judge or someone with a position of power in that court that very day the survivors were being judged for making their ((OWN)) personal decisions to survive, he would have most likely thrown them into prison or worse based on his exact words. Again, very straightforward. If I didn't know any better, you appear to be more concerned with "vegans" feeling "morally superior", blanketing "them" as the second coming of Nazi's because they are educating people on the devastation caused by our industries, the destruction of millions of peoples health (lives) based on complete industry fabrications, and the destruction of our ecosystems and over 400 billion animals lives every year. All of this alongside the annihilation of our forests, oceans, land/soil and drinking water, just to feed a billion dollar industry. However, you're not more concerned with the absolute ((FORCING)) of these atrocities being committed (by our own allowances) indirectly towards every being (human and animal) on this planet today. It is at this point I say to you, and many others, that more inner-reflection of what is really important and our current reality is required. Cheers
@@willfullyinformed I appreciate the thoughtful response. Having spent time reading through the comments section and listening to the interview I feel genuinely concerned that humans that continue to consume animal protein are viewed as a plague upon the earth. The very presence of humans is seen as a catastrophic thing. I'm sorry, but I stand by my comment. I view human life as more important than that of an animal. And it is clear that some vegans are absolutely as fanatical about their beliefs and feel just as superior as the nazi's. And the interviewer continually describes the animals (which he says are the same as people) are in a state of 'slavery' and 'suffering'. The first is simply a nonsense and undermines the experience of people who were enslaved. The second is something that is avoided far better by humans than ANY of the animals would experience if killed by another predatory species. Not to mention, nature is cruel and callous in the face of suffering. Whether experienced by human or animal. I don't accept that we have a moral duty to not continue to eat the diet that we have had during the entire evolution of our species. People who choose not to eat meat can do so, but they don't have the right to claim humans that choose to eat meat are morally wrong. It's absolutely not 'oppression'. He contradicts himself saying that he thinks an animal can be worth 'less' than a human, but view them as 'a person' that is 'being oppressed'. Thus my original point still stands.
@@leenasanderson6739 I'm sorry you feel that way Leena. Just know that what I said had nothing to do with what you're trying to say, these are separate points to be handled. Lastly, we have to move forward. When a diet, lifestyle choice, etc. comes at the cost of everyone else's future; environmental destruction, pollutants, mass extinction of every animal and ecosystem on Earth, or feeding unknowing children something that promotes poor health and creates health problems in the long term. The list goes on. Then it is without a doubt no longer something that is simply "your choice" because it effects every being on this planet in the most negative way imaginable. Something has to be done for our future, the facts are solid, it's done, we can't argue them anymore at this point. Compromise may be possible with something like lab grown meat for example, but turning a blind eye purely for people's taste pleasure and avoiding confrontation at the risk of offending others isn't going to work. Education is key, and coming to an understanding that this can no longer continue. Nothing will be so drastic either way, veganism will slowly yet "quickly" in the grand scheme continue to change the industry as it is now. At the worst eating meat from killing an animal will be frowned upon like smoking while pregnant and meat will less likely be easily obtained in store as everyone will agree it no longer makes sense to destroy the planet and each other. However, if humans over complicate these changes and cause unnecessary problems, then it is the fault of humanity/society... not veganism. Cheers
@shoe laces Lol. Thanks for the vitriolic response that I have come to expect from such fanatical believers as yourself. You are exactly proving my point.
@@willfullyinformed Hang on, feeding meat to children promotes poor health? I think that the stats on human longevity, size increase especially over the last 100 years primarily as a result of improved diet, disagree. This started when our ancestors threw meat on a fire instead of eating raw, which led directly to improved digestion and absorption of nutrients. Which led to increased brain size and led to crude beginnings of agriculture. Nor do i see eating meat as comparable to choosing an ice cream flavor. Our diet has played a direct role in the evolution of our species enabling us to reach the standard of life we now enjoy. Such that we have the luxury of pontificating about this and other questions on our tech devices from the comfort or our living room/train/workplace. Not hiding in a cave or under a tree seeking protection from the elements Whilst focusing getting something to eat (or avoiding being eaten). So thank you for a polite discussion, but i don't think we will agree.
Good grief! referring to the bible when discussing morality is so frustrating. It's the same book that condones selling your own daughter as a slave! Please find another source of morality.
Fadi Alloush BUT related to biblical arguments, I am Christian and have biblical arguments for my being vegan. People often like to say that God created animals for our consumption (which is annoying) but in the story of creation he never mentions that animals were for our consumption (he does, however, say that plants are). God doesn’t even address the consumption of animals until after the great flood, looooong after the fall of man and the entrance of sin into the world. My question to people when they say this is why shouldn’t we strive to act as we would have had sin not entered the world? The prophecy of Jesus is also discussed in the book Isaiah (I think???) and the description implies that God intended for a violence-free world. Not to mention that important aspects of the Christian faith are love and compassion, so I don’t think anyone can argue that being vegan isn’t biblical. There are several other reasons as well that are biblical, and I won’t say there there aren’t things that are questionable, like ed said, slavery was okayed (I don’t think it actually encourages it either, I believe he said to treat them well I think but still, slavery is in no way okay soooooo) and I think the only time the Bible mentions rape is when it’s saying that the woman raped must marry her raper (don’t quote me on that its been a while!). so if it the Bible doesn’t explicitly say “do not rape” does that make it okay to rape?? Obviously not... but generally speaking the Bible preaches love! Oh and the big one.... one of the commandments is “thou shall not kill.” So yeah to say that the Bible is justification isn’t really sufficient because so much of the Bible would deem veganism as a better way of life. Compassion and empathy and love are huge parts of being a Christian and Christians can’t deny that... So ya just some stuff to know if anyone ever argues about it with you (:
Doktor Hans Actually it is the bible. Exodus 21:7-11 New Living Translation (NLT)7 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. 8 If she does not satisfy her owner, he must allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. 9 But if the slave’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave but as a daughter.10 “If a man who has married a slave wife takes another wife for himself, he must not neglect the rights of the first wife to food, clothing, and sexual intimacy. 11 If he fails in any of these three obligations, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.

Its because they are not consuming what nature designed for them to consume. They're bodies are not at optimal intelligence. When you consume what nature designed for you, your body/mind awakens and aligns/activates so you finally can "see", you finally can "think", you finally tap into the intelligence of who you truly are. When we eat animals and processed foods full of chemicals they do not allow us to access that optimal intelligence. Just look how sharp ED is compared to everyone he talks to. No one is as close, its like 2 different species having a conversation.
When you detox the body and nourish it with proper nourishment it evolves. We become a whole new species, we finally become human because we are eating human food, while others who eat animals are and still act anmalistic in nature. Its very obvious but you don't see it until you evolve yourself. Observe this and you will notice how people who eat animals act more like animals and those who don't act more human. More intelligent, more compassionate, more alike Dolphins and other intelligent species. Its all energy mechanics, you become what energy you consume. Plants hold a very high vibration, animals hold a dense vibration. Higher vibration, more light we become, the more we see, the closer to source we are and express.
@@turbonbc I like much of what you say, though I have to note that dolphins are animals, super intelligent and still eat other animals :D but besides that, I think you've got some interesting points
this guy is a bundle of contradictions. morals are objective then morals are subjective. then he says veganism should not incorporate morals at all but then admits that chickens he eats should come from farms where they are treated respectfully because he doesn't agree in suffering of animals. he disagrees with hunting for pleasure but agrees in eating a carcass for pleasure. these are the cyclic arguments meat eaters use and they go round and round and round. there is no valid argument against veganism

He said that the Bible tells us that humans are superior to animals. Wrong. It actually says just the opposite. This verse makes it crystal clear that humans and animals have the same soul and afterlife, and that man feeling superior to them is all just pride and arrogance: "For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other, and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast; for all is vanity.” (Ecclesiastes 3:19)

Thanks for that link, PF rice! I've found that most modern translations take great liberties with how they interpret scriptures, sometimes deliberately taking them completely out of context. They replace significant words with ones of their own choosing that change the meaning. Particularly odd is that I've seen this most in the scriptures having to do with the souls and equality of animals. I have a Bible from 1970 and I copied it from there verbatim -- before the fundamentalists went crazy with all the misleading translations.
ORPHEUS OWL Rebellious Earthling I completely agree that religion is used for convenience, to use to justify things that people personally want to beleive, and the scriptures are heavily cherry picked. That is a fate for prey animals designed by nature. I was horrified by what I saw on safari in Africa. The manner in which we raise, feed, shelter and slaughter our prey is absolutely different, driven by a very unique, very human, sense of empathy and awareness. My point was merely that if i were a prey animal i know which manner of life and death i would prefer.. I am sure many of the rabid believers in this comment section would just love to give it to me, simply because my beliefs and understanding come from a different perspective. I don't believe that we can completely eliminate suffering: we cannot do it for ourselves or any other living thing. The best we can do is mitigate it. Ergo we water our plants during a drought, assist an elderly person with their groceries kiss our kids when they are sad....evenif we stopped killing cows tomorrow they would still be destined to lose their babies and eventually their lives. As great as humans are, we are still a part of nature.
@@leenasanderson6739 At least, if cows were not killed by us, they would have a chance to leave a free live, not as slaves. They would not have their babies taken away systematically from them shortly after birth. They would have natural mating. They would not repeatedly be shoved a full arm in their anus and another one in their vagina. We, unlike wild beast, have moral agency. We know that killing is not right and we know that we don't need to eat meat to survive or thrive.

International Love what I want as a meat eater is for meat consumption to stay legal. You have the choice to exercise your morals and eat plant products and I have the same choice with animal products.
Difference between Plants and Animals:
If you cut few branches from a tree, it will grow back
If you cut couple legs of a dog, it will bleed to death.
so if a dog could grow its legs back, cutting them off and eating them would be fine? So skin grows back, can we cut the skin off an animal and eat it?
@@icikle There aren't making that argument but the one that they are is that it's more morally justifiable from the fact that trees have the ability to regenerate limbs. In this instance at least he's not taking into consideration the full moral justification but part of it ("collateral" damage in terms of "property" rather than actual pain or trauma). He never said nor implied that it would be justifiable for dogs if they could themselves, who, unsurprisingly, aren't the same as plants.

If so, I can see how this could have been confusing. I agree with Wayward Winchester, My comment was directed towards the guy in the video. Because these people bring up plants, but their food eats plants, so it's a useless argument:)
“I don’t see a book that says animal life matters more than plant life...”
Really...really now...
When someone brings the bible into a debate you know it's time to end the debate.

Back in 88 it would have been hundreds of times harder to be vegan. It's not like today whwre there are safe spaces and everyone Cares about not upsetting someone. Back in 88 the status quo meat eaters would have had a field day with vegans like you or me. In 1988 it would be more like 1840 where anti slave people would get laughed at and shunned by pro slavers or even killed for saving slaves compared to 2022

Me job was feed them at sunrise and after school,
In the morning i would walk down our dirt road and most of the animals would fallow my to the school bus and after school they would be waiting for me and all the kids and bus driver would get off and pet them, the animals were very friendly.

Did you just agree with subjective morality and have a debate on being moral?
@@shadow_ow2 Are you a believer in Judaism? When did you first start believing?

There is a reason why it says in the bible we all "sin"...lmao nothings perfect, but we can try our best.
all of his responses are so kind and carefully worded it blows my MIND
Ed is the best role model for discussing veganism with non vegans. On the other hand, getting a meat eater to accept the term "person" for a non human animal is probably beyond even his skills. That would require someone to teach a semester of philosophy to accomplish that.
I could say that for both parties
It’s because Ed already knows what he’s going to say. These change my mind things are silly because Ed is clearly too opinionated on this subject and will never actually let anyone change his mind. loganwalr you don’t need both.

I don't know if you've watched the movie: "Dominion Documentary" yet but I hope you have. People who have watched that movie have ALL become vegan as have I!! Eye-opening!!
The entire documentary "Dominion 2018" is now available to watch for free on the Plant Based News youtube channel. :)

Hypocrite
Seeing Through you’re an idiot as well as a hypocrite
Seeing Through haven’t you got some animals to save??
That’s right ... off you fuck
OK....GO!
This is certainly a great way forward! Nice one, Ed!! 🙏🏼

Hi Louis!
uh jeff ,
Hi, how would you possibly know what I think nature is like? What do you think nature is?
-Cannibalism in the Andes accident was wrong?
-Yes
-So they should've all died?
-Yes
Damn Ed, I admire your patience. I couldn't bear with being part of that conversation for over 5 minutes.
What about that particular quote? Sure, I disagree with him. But if he thinks cannibalism can't be justified, this answer is logically consistent.
Patience of a saint

The level of cognitive dissonance you need to have to put forward an argument that plants might feel pain with a straight face is out of this world.
Good grief! referring to the bible when discussing morality is so frustrating. It's the same book that condones selling your own daughter as a slave! Please find another source of morality.
Fadi Alloush not related, is that alnwick castle in the background of your picture by chance??
Oh and the big one.... one of the commandments is “thou shall not kill.”
So yeah to say that the Bible is justification isn’t really sufficient because so much of the Bible would deem veganism as a better way of life. Compassion and empathy and love are huge parts of being a Christian and Christians can’t deny that...
So ya just some stuff to know if anyone ever argues about it with you (:
That's the Quran that condones that.
Fadi Alloush dont think you quite understand the bible

Thanks for that link, PF rice! I've found that most modern translations take great liberties with how they interpret scriptures, sometimes deliberately taking them completely out of context. They replace significant words with ones of their own choosing that change the meaning. Le français, tu dois aller voir une execution casher d'une vache. Tu verras que ce n'est pas sympa du tout. That's why it is so important to show the killing process to people. When they see, they realize there is nothing human about the execution of an animal.
Umm, have you seen what happens in nature? Animals torturing other animals (eg orcas, cats), The young, the elderly and the ill prey animals hunted/harried to exhaustion, sometimes being eaten alive. But sorry, i forgot i am on a 'four legs good, two legs bad' video and comment section. Thanks TH-cam.
@meat Ismurder Back at you sport. 😊
So that's your justification for doing what we do to animals? That wild animals do so to each other?
@@abhassinha688 Justification? Absolutely not. However, i know, having seen with my own eyes, that predatory species other than humans are not exactly delivering 'quick, or painless' deaths : they target the weak harry them and eventually tear them apart.
They would not
repeatedly be shoved a full arm in their anus and another one in their vagina.
We, unlike wild beast, have moral agency. We know that killing is not right and we know that we don't need to eat meat to survive or thrive. So the conclusion we struggle so much with, because we are so addicted to meat, is; let's stop killing animals to eat them. Let's stop eating animals.
I love your calmness in this situations. I can name thousands of people who wouldn‘t be able to keep their temper, it‘s so professional and especially very effective, I really like it😊
"the bible, the bible, the bible. Anything you say will not change my mind because of the bible. Everything you believe in is shaped by my bible" Your patience is amazing Ed.
It's crazy isn't it. How people can read a book written thousands of years ago and let it dictate their lives in such a way they cannot deviate from it. They lose all sense of logic.
Perfect example of how Religion really limits human progression. This man thinks he’s superior to animals because he believes his “god” told him so.. smh
Peyton Banbury It simply doesn’t matter Regardless Religion limits the Human mind, it’s based on someone else’s views. It limits your interpretation of the world and tells you what to think. Religion is a set of rules and regulations not even governed by objective nor literal logic.
You know what is? Science. And science shows us that we are adapted to the point where the body needs meat. When I was younger I didn't eat meat, I was constantly sick, I was weak and picked on because I didn't have the same development as people who eat meat. Vegans are at risk from nutritional deficiency according to studies, source used is psychology today.
Charlie Buckner Lmfaoo you claim you know Science Yet you know nothing... Vegans face absolutely No Nutritional deficiency, such things are made up propaganda. You get just as much protein and nutrition from plants. And you actually get more energy from plants than you do meat. In fact all the nutritional value you get from meat comes from the plants that animal ate while it was alive. I do not eat meat and I exercise regularly and work hard labor jobs and I always have the most energy in the room. I make meat eaters look like wimps. If you were Feeble and weak it was due to you not the plants...
@@MighelAkando so basically any evidence against your belief is propaganda?
@@ch4z_bucks No any "belief" that's Not a proven Fact and is force fed to people to believe is Propaganda I literally have never met a single vegan who is malnourished be serious
Your mode of discourse incites such a reverence in me. I wish I was this intellectual, factually backed, structured and eloquent in the way I bring forth my thoughts. Here's to you!
I will become a patreon supporter because of this video. You really make a connection and thank you for exposing meat eaters flawed reasoning.
Did the same! Let's support people who are trying to bring awareness as Ed.
Your patience has really set such an example in all aspects of life. Just shows how not being reactive is so much more productive. I cant even thank you enough ed.
