    Very nice Job! When i see the engine flywheel retainer i went crazy, "Sabó" is the Most trusted brand here in the Brazilian market.
    It's unfortunate that we never had a Vanagon here in Brazil.

    Thanks for the great video! I’m dropping a vanagon transmission to do a rear main seal. And replace flywheel bolts.

    I thought the vanagons were all "a gone" from existence. Great video.

    Thanks for the video! Questions: if it leaks oil - would you suspect the seal itself, or that O-ring. I read that it might "only" be the O-ring that usually causes the problem. Question 2: do you have to pull out/replace that needle bearing? How does one know if the clutch plate has been damaged by oil? Anyway of knowing?

      If it’s leaking a lot of oil it’s most likely the seal, the o ring inside is sealing the crankshaft to the flywheel when it’s bad oil will be coming out around the flywheel bolts right onto the clutch itself. We installed a new bearing in the new flywheel. Clean the surface of the flywheel and look for any discoloration or surface in perfections, you can have a machine shop resurface it. Don’t install a new clutch without doing this, we put a new flywheel on so we wouldn’t be waiting for the flywheel to get machined.

      @@scrapdaddysgarage5027 it seems to be leaking a little oil for now. I think it's from the engine because the oil smells clean and not like gearbox-oil. (Not sure if the gearbox can leak in that end too?) My idea is to change only the seal/seals because I have no reason to believe that anything else is faulty (clutch, release-pressure bearing). So if I "only" change the seal/seals, do I have to "resurface" the flywheel or do anything with the shims?

      @@Unexpectedperspectivesnow you can replace the seals and reinstall your old clutch without doing anything to the flywheel the shims could be left the same as long as the free play is not excessive. This van had 200,000 miles on the clutch and was still working fine but leaking a massive amount. It was time to replace it.

    Thank You for making this! Do you have to re-shim if you reuse the old flywheel?

      You should not have to, but if the engine has a lot of miles on it you should check it just in case, Please like and subscribe, Thanks

    Question 3: what about the shims? I didn't see them when you removed the old flywheel.

    • @scrapdaddysgarage5027
      @scrapdaddysgarage5027  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shims were stuck on the crankshaft we use a pic tool to pull them out, it’s easier when the seal is removed. Thanks for watching please subscribe if you haven’t already..

    Thanks for making this! How long did the entire job take you? What did/would you normally charge for a project like this?

      The magic of editing makes the job look easy. It was done over a 2day period waiting for some parts and lots of cleaning. I can’t remember the exact amount of hours probably around 10. I was doing this for a friend, I charge by the hour. Thanks for watching, be sure to subscribe

    hmmm, I wonder if I have to do this with my subaru engine and vw trans ? I came here seeking wisdom since my clutch disc, I thought it was new, but it and the pressure plate are showing wear....they might be original, mine only went 63K miles on the first engine and i could have just left it, I don't remember it was over 18 months ago...

    Did you have to loosen the engine or was it possible to remove the gearbox without loosen engine?

    • @scrapdaddysgarage5027

      Engine mounts were not touched, you can lower the engine slightly by varying the tension of the strap holding up the front the engine. Thanks for watching.
