    Thank you for the great video. I’m at best an amateur on fixing my 67 bug. Stock motor and tranny blew. I replaced it with a 1600 out of my 73. And found a tranny at a junk yard from a 68 bug. The junkyard guy swore it would fit. It worked but had to add extenders because the 67 and 68 were a little different. Really had trouble finding anybody that could help without paying thousands of dollars to swap out the motor and transmission. Not only did I pay thousands but also had to trade the transmission out of my 73 for labor. I’ve only watched the one video on the clutch and flywheel. And something about your video made it so simple to understand the procedure. Thank you so much. Excellent video. I had my mechanic work done at just Andy in sand city ca. I know some mechanics charge even more. When I first talked to the mechanic he wanted 10.000 thousand dollars for a new tranny and motor. Amazing how vw. Anything has skyrocketed out of control. I’ve still got the stock 1500 that came with my 67. It had over the desired amount of play on the crank. Is there a reasonable price to have it rebuilt. ? I’m not a VW . Mechanic in any way. I’m a service and repair journeyman plumber. I truly appreciate your videos. Thank you.

      A build could cost up to $3,000. Parts have been getting jogger which drives up the cost.

    The old flywheel and pressure plate can be cleaned up and reused, they are still useable. It drove like crap because of the oil on the worn-out clutch, if the pressure plate and flywheel were cleaned up and sanded and reinstalled with a new clutch disk it would have drove like it was intended to drive. Any time you have the motor out of the car the rear seal should be replaced even if you think it is fine, it will reduce the possible head ach later of having to pull the motor to replace the seal when it starts leaking.

    Great job; exactly how to do it. Some folks put some RTV sealant on the o ring and groove to ensure against oil leaks. The Torque Multiplier pays for itself the first time you use it and it works also when taking the drums/discs on the back wheels too.

      RTV seems silly.

      @@FixinBugsNStuff Yes I’ve read the same but it seems to work for this Brazilian guy who has a channel here and knows his stuff. Marcello Tonella is the name.

    Hi, this is very helpful. Thanks for sharing this with us. My son and I working on a vw buggy. We are having troubles getting the flywheel nut out. Now we know what to do.
    Can you please tell me where you bought all these tools from. I couldn’t find exact ones you are using in this video. Thanks

    Great video but, shouldn't you check/set your end-play before installing the seal?

    • @FixinBugsNStuff
      @FixinBugsNStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You are absolutely right! The shims won’t come out with the rear main seal installed. Thanks for pointing that out. The end play on this particular motor was already set I was just doing a swap.

    Where is that lock washer from? Never seen one like that and the new gland nut comes without a washer

      You can purchase them from any VW specialist store.

    Should there be a gap between the pressure plate and clutch? Mine doesn’t sit flush?

      There may be a gap, however the clutch should not move.

    Why did you need a new flywheel, those original ones were specially balanced for your engine and last.

    • @FixinBugsNStuff
      @FixinBugsNStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It needed to be machined. So it was cheaper to get a new one.
