    Look, to anybody calling me out on not giving Sniper proper respect, this video was made and released just a couple months after the release of Three Houses, and I had the assumption that everyone's just best off in Master Classes back then, which still relatively holds true in several cases. The game's been out for close to two years now, and my playthrough of this game is STILL ongoing and I'm still learning more. Yes, I know and acknowledge there are some spicy class exclusive combat arts, but back when this video was made under the assumption that you'd be going into a master class of some sort, I stated that Sniper doesn't have a point to mastering if you're not going to use what it gives outside of its class anyway. Yes it can be spicy if you stay in Sniper, which you are absolutely more than free to go with. Again, this video was made very shortly after release, and I've since then made WAY more efficient class maxing machines.

      Question: why is Felix a dancer?

  • @nikom5210
    @nikom5210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +315

    The idea that sniper "only gives a combat art" and is thus useless to master is a little bit ridiculous, seeing as hunter's volley is one of the best combat arts in the entire game and means that sniper is actually a respectable final class alternative to bow knight, especially on higher difficulties.

      I think he meant that as in...
      Mastering the sniper / Swordmaster class isn't very important (right away) since it doesn't give you any skills to work with right away.
      Sure you get Astra / Hunters volley which are great CAs.
      But if you just started NG+ and you are unlocking skills and CA's with renown...
      You can't take advantage of what sniper and Swordmaster offer you until you reach the LVL threshold to reclass into them.
      I mean sure, if you plan on sticking with the class for the unit definitely master them.
      But if your NG+
      LVL 1 Felix has the option of getting Death Blow or Astra-
      (mind you, he can't reclass yet)
      Felix is going to get Death Blow.

      @@Tom-vx7qh Astra has a unique animation compared to most other sword combat arts.
      (compared to the standard "I hit you harder with my weapon animation")
      9 weapon uses isn't a big deal after you have more than +1,000G.
      I find entertainment in watching my units crit x times in a single turn.
      (which easily enough can be done plenty of ways.)
      In my humble opinion, I find that great.
      -Is it a bit overkill?
      Sure, in most cases
      I Don't think i'm going to only use astra the entire battle, obviously that's unnecessary.
      When you've beaten the game, and play for the entertainment you're going to do whatever works. (Unless you don't...in which case..uh....congrats?)
      Statistically is it a "great" combat art?
      Not as efficient as
      Point blank volley
      Swift strikes
      Hunters volley
      Etc.
      Of course they're considered great.
      In a game with the options for custom tailoring the army to your personal preference.
      As with just about _literally_ _anything_ in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
      _it_ _gets_ _the_ _job_ _done._
      And if it doesn't. Well.. that's the player's fault.
      Or the hit rate's.
      In which case refer to above^^

    • @Tom-vx7qh
      @Tom-vx7qh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@zuesandbandit Astra only does 150% damage with no crit or miss, and if you're lucky and manage to get every hit to crit, you deal 450%. But the problem is that doubling deals more damage than Astra. If you're going to crit 5 times with Astra, then you can crit twice normally, and two normal crits is 600% damage. But not only that, but Astra has a negative hit penalty, so there's also a higher chance of dealing even less damage.
      Astra's only redeeming quality is that the animation is the coolest in the games aside from maybe Claude's crit animations.

    • @zuesandbandit
      @zuesandbandit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Tom-vx7qh That's nice of you to explain to me the numbers, and I understand that.
      But you forgot to mention the other methods a unit could increase accuracy through:
      -Weapon proficiency
      -Abilities
      -Equipment
      -Battalions
      -linked attacks
      -support
      -special bonds
      You can absolutely have high crit & 100% accuracy.
      On another note, this video was about grinding right?
      If you're speed leveling ranks in three houses, does it really matter what you use? At this point you're still doing what you want. Units could grind from E to S+ fairly early in the game if that's what you wanted to do, same goes for maddening.
      Of course NG+ exists... which kinda negates the whole grinding part of the argument, if that's the player's preference.
      It can still be done without though.
      So I guess my point is I don't have a problem with using astra.

  • @Rexis102
    @Rexis102 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Here is my personal method. You take a highly evasive or defensive unit with rusted weapons and have them camp out in a map with a thicket/forest surrounded by adjacent thickets/forests. The rusted weapons’ low accuracy paired with the increased enemy evasion in forests makes it nearly impossible to hit your enemies, but you still gain good weapon experience, great class experience, and low normal experience.
    The only hard part is building a unit that can survive hundreds of enemy attacks. What I recommend is giving your unit skills that promote survival paired with skills that either cater to Avoidance/Evasion or Defense/Resistance. Assign a battalion with no hit boosts and greatly boosted evasion or defenses. Give your unit a knowledge gem, throw them in a forest, and they’re good to go. For magical units, it’s best to assign them as a Knowledge-Gem-holding adjutant to the main unit since the spell experience will not run out for them. Now you’re good to go!
    If you have any questions on defensive or evasive builds that worked really well for me, feel free to ask. I’m willing to help out!

      D00meriksen van Dude you don’t get any weapon experience with an unequipped weapon. With a rusted weapon, you can get both class experience and weapon experience. You can also have more evasion with sword avoid or sword prowess. It’s not really efficient to do it with nothing equipped.

    • @daniellava7483
      @daniellava7483 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omg listen. Find yourself an enemy healer, lure them into a forest with a unit that has high res, and attack them with that unit until they run out of Nosferatu uses (they only get 12). Then bring out the rest of ur team and attack them with rusted/broken weapons 1000 times. They also usually have recovery so even if you DO hit them they will heal themselves

    • @Trostspender
      @Trostspender 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      grinding for S+ ranks is not worth all that time. I tried what you suggested with broken Brawling Gloves and I just killed the priest every time anyway. If you're going to do that, make sure to use a class that boosts your chosen weapon's xp. Also equip one of the 2 knowledge gems. I only use these methods to grind class xp to master good skills like Death Blow, Darting Blow on everyone. Having an adjutant makes sure you can grind 2 units at the same time, which also saves you effort.

    • @Rexis102
      @Rexis102 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      D00meriksen van Dude What I was saying is not just attacking a priest (unless you were replying to Daniel Lava). Let every enemy attack you. Don’t just attack a priest with high avoid, you still have a chance to hit him. But with 20 units all attempting to attack you, luck won’t really matter. You kill one, another will take their place and you can keep grinding. You get 4+ combat interactions each turn, and with a knowledge gem that weapon/skill experience is going to go way up.

    You don't have to fight bowmen to get the class exp from getting hit/dodging/whatever. You can just go to your items, select your equipped weapon and unequip it. Your character will then go into battle unarmed. It's a pretty good way to farm class exp on maddening but iirc there is still a 99 turn time limit and a limit in terms of when an enemy might run out of weapon uses. Downside is you don't get weapon/skill proficiency this way, but if you want that then you can do what you said and equip a ranged weapon vs. melee foes or a melee weapon vs. ranged foes. On maddening it's harder to farm from bowmen due to all of them having poison strike. Another cheesy thing you can do is you can farm bosses on heal tiles by attacking them with weak, broken (literally) weapons. The one on the Seteth/Flayn paralogue is pretty good for this.

    • @kuroneko8343
      @kuroneko8343 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done maddening yet so idk the limitations but usually I find the easiest way is going into the battle menu on your days off and choosing "Battle at the Empire". That map has 2 bridges seperating you from the enemy and you can just have 2 of your characters chokehold the bridges with no weapon or with a broken weapon if you want to get weapon exp but they do eventually hit enemies so less farming material. This set up means they can get attacked by 3 or more enemies at once and gain at least 6 points per turn. Just heal them when damaged and wait it out. You can chokehold in other maps but this one is the easiest cos there is like no set up. All you need is patience.
      You can also use adjutants and get experience for more characters and its esp convenient for the less tanky ones cos they can't chokehold without needing healing constantly.

    Give someone a speed ring, place them in forest in unequip their weapon, they should dodge enough and heal them if needed. Warp them out when done.

    You can go to the item menu and unequip your weapon, then you are able to take hits without counter attacking, save all your low level (level 11 or lower) quests for around chapter 9 when your units will be around level 20, go into combat with the classes you want to master and all weapons unequipped and let the enemies run rampant for 20 or so turns. If someone masters a class you can simply equip their weapon and the enemies will leave them be if your unit can kill them.

    I made my own farming strategy for class exp, levels, money and skill exp.
    Before choosing battle on the free day, I spend every week getting new certifications for the characters I want to use.
    When in the battle menu I make sure only Byleth is in the fight and set whoever I want as an adjutant.
    When at a high enough level, Byleth will start to take no damage from everything, so I equip a melee weapon to farm class exp off mages and archers.
    When you max out both Byleth and the adjutants class you can end the battle and move on to the next one. As long as you keep choosing the right battle you can do this infinitely.
    You can equip different weapons and riding/flying/heavy armour, and by the time you go back to the monastery, you should be able to recruit a bunch of people.
    Towards the end my Byleth started to get only 1 exp from every fight.
    My Byleth is level 30+ and has A rank in riding, authority and all weapons and magic except for bows and I’m only at chapter 6.

    So I found that the auxiliary battle in the Empire and the auxiliary battle at Fodlan’s Throat are the best for grinding class exp. This is because they both have a choke point where you can force three units enemies to attack one unit. Simply place a physical tank at that choke point and have them unequip any weapons so they don’t counter attack and you can gain 12 class exp per enemy phase with the knowledge gem. For weaker units who can’t tank all those hits, you can set them as adjutants for the physical tank. The battle in the empire is better for this because there are two more choke points where you can get two enemies to attack one unit. Meaning you can have a total of 6 units gaming class exp at the same time with three tanks each having an adjutant. Of course at least 4 of these 6 won’t have the knowledge gem. Doing this is also nice because you don’t have to attack at all and can just spam end turn.

    I found this sort of grinding easiest in some auxillary battles where there are bishops. They have renewal, so if you damage them, you can just wait for a turn or two, or you just use rusted/broken weapons. Nosferatu is weak and Abraxas only has 4 uses, and you can just have a high res unit bait out their attacks a few times so your weaker units can come in and start whaling away. Not only do you gain class EXP, but also weapon ranks including movement type and authority rank. I found enemy bishops with renewal the easiest to make this kind of setup. Only problem is your healers won't gain as much healing exp, but most healing classes don't generally have the best mastery skills anyways (renewal on your own units isn't that great, defiant magic is pretty niche, etc).

    Lol funny thing is, this didn't work in those games if you don't deal any damage at all, while in this game it sounds like you get gains even when doing zero damage, so this will be even more abusable. Great :)

    You could get more complex with both knowledge gems and a boss or healing tile method, especially if it's a boss with high res or ideally both res and def. Use a bunch of broken or rusted weapons to keep up the assault, and have a magic user use weak attacks with one of the knowledge gems and then a rusted user attack, and then have the other gem traded between a healer and another character. Then I have everyone who can safely that turn pile on. If I really feel like it, I'll put other characters on the corner to take long range attacks from applicable targets while also trading the gem around. I did this pretty well on the Seth+Flayn paralogue, and I think Sylvain's with the thieves had an archer boss. The Ignatz+Raphael one worked too but he's only got one range.
    I know there were others, I just don't remember which ones. This way I get lots of class mastery and weapon level, bonus points if someone is an adjutant on a mount or in heavy armor.

    I honestly wish they would have just made all ng+ upgrades cost way more and let us carry over renown we have already used in further playthroughs.

      I'm actually currently working on a video essay on everything I don't like about three houses, and the renown system is one of the complaints. How using renown in this file then means you have less renown to carry into the next file.

    The boxing in an archer part is so obvious, but I never thought of it. So much potential wasted :')
    Great video though, thx!

    Oh just came up with an idea. could do one of the battle quests where enemies are lvl 5. Dont do the battle and wait till anyone can tank 6 archers at the same time
