Fairly certain recruitment is based on whether you recruit them earlier in the game. If you dont get them then, they cant be saved. This is for units that appear on later maps of course, not all units will in a given route
@@lunk2569 not in those cases, I think. Those are Crimson Flower maps, and for those if you’ve recruited Lysithea/Ashe beforehand (like I had) then you just have them in your army already.

I say likely because ive not done CF route, but do know this map. Idk if this is all footage from 1 playthrough or not though so i cant confirm anything about this circumstance.

Hilda can't be recruited to BE. Thats why you don't get the option, because Hilda will stubbornly oppose the empire no matter who tries to change her mind.

whether or not they're recruitable depends on route and who you recruited in academy. Ashe is only saveable if you recruited him before and Byleth is the one who kills him. if you fight Ferdinand on Myrrdin, then you can't spare him because that means you never recruited him.

@@didi1232001 byleth does not have to be the one to kill on re-recruitable war phase students to recruit them. so long as they were in your house pre-timeskip the option will appear on any difficulty for any of the students where a persuade option exists. i know this because i almost never have byleth go down the paths of lorenz or ashe yet always get the persuade option once i have finished them off.

Balthus should be able to persuade Hilda, or at least not kill her. They were childhood friends and Holst will literally hunt him down if he were to even pull one strand of hair off of her.
And there's no surviving a Holst attack. Remember, Holst is the guy who barely lost a one on one with Nemesis while the Ten Elites were still alive and buffing him. Unless you are Nemesis, there's no beating Holst...

I saw somewhere that there is code in the game's files for them to appear as enemy units on certain routes. I think Constance on all routes that go against the empire due to her ties with the empire. Balthus on CF with claude, hilda, and lysithea (which makes sense cause they are his supports aside from the ashen wolves), and I can't remember where it was said Hapi and Yuri appear. However, it seems the devs scrapped this because a player doesn't interact with these characters unless they bought the dlc and those who did buy the dlc would most likely recruit all of the units because they do not have skill requirements.
You just need to do the Cindered Shadows DLC to recruit them. It separate from the main game so don't worry about loosing anything. You just need to complete Chapters 3-6 and you can recruit them automatically in the main game by talking and requestingthey join, just make sure you recruit them before Part 2, otherwise they'll vanish after the timeskip.

The only problem I ever had with the DLC characters is their lack of integration. Their interactions with characters are VERY limited, even with characters that SHOULD interact with them a lot more. One thing that especially bothers me is that Anna has ZERO supports with anyone making her significantly worse than most other units.
I find it hard to believe they would give Yuri and Bernadetta a support, as well as unique dialogue when you have a meal with them... and then just choose not give them dialogue when they fight each other. I bet they just forgot

I really wish they could have reworked some of the enemy data in the part 2 chapters to make the Ashen Wolves appear if you don't recruit them. Like imagine having to fight both Balthus and Hilda at Derdriu in CF, and fighting Hapi on the Tailtean Plains.

You can change your characters clothes and profile picture to look like their war phase while being in the academy phase and viceversa This is done using the players diary in their room

Question how the fuq is his unit stat line so huge? I'm only able to hit higher 50 base stat in one area. I was able to get almost 70 defense dudue on my run so how?
I was fortunate in a way, as I didnt get this until after the DLC was out, so I cant even imagine it without these 4, as they are great. One of the best things about this game is the history between, and the connections with the characters, which is superbly done. Anna is a trash character for this reason. But the rest of the adds feel as if they should have always belonged. Here hoping they retain the same team for future fire emblems. Voice actors, writers, and all!

The only ones at the battle of Gronder to have unique dialogue are the lords, and Bernadetta only appears in that battle.

I really wish they could have reworked some of the enemy data in the part 2 chapters to make the Ashen Wolves appear if you don't recruit them. Like imagine having to fight both Balthus and Hilda at Derdriu in CF, and fighting Hapi on the Tailtean Plains.
Hapi will NOT defend the church. If anything, she should be an enemy in all the other routes.

I was fortunate in a way, as I didnt get this until after the DLC was out, so I cant even imagine it without these 4, as they are great. One of the best things about this game is the history between, and the connections with the characters, which is superbly done. Anna is a trash character for this reason. But the rest of the adds feel as if they should have always belonged.

Balthus and Lysithea is an exception. For some reason Yuri can't spare Ashe which I think is dumb but usually Byleth has to deal the final blow.
