After watching Pet Sematary (2019) I decided to watch the original movie from 89, and let me tell you, I was surprised. It's actually alot better. If you are a fan of the movie, definitely watch the original!

Other Joe has the answer for this one. This movie was average af. I went in hyped and left the theater super disappointed. It's 4/10 from me. The original is a solid 7/10 and is in my top 10 favorite horror movies.
Good to hear. I was upset when I first saw the trailer last year, that it was a reboot. I really enjoyed the originals and I was hoping the new film was going to be an extension of the two movies. Having seen the first movie multiple times, you already know what is going to happen, so it's hard to spark that interest for those who are familiar with the film. But after hearing your review, I'll give it a try. I'll skip the spoiler section.
I went in with the same idea of "I already know how this all goes " You don't, is the thing here. It takes it's liberties, and they are very effective.

I didn't care for it, the original ghost and sister were way better and creepier. This movie really relied on jump scares the whole time. The scenes when they were out in the woods were really good though and it was shot beautifully. Acting was eh as well, they could've done so much more with the scares but kind of felt like wasted opportunity. The original albeit wasn't that great either but it just had a creepier vibe I guess.
The woods aren't supposed to be scary though... Neither was the "Sematary" it was supposed to be beautiful. Only after they cross the dead trees was it supposed to be creepy
I side absolutely with Other Joe. This new movie is too afraid to be scary and doesn't build on the grief and ALL of the character's relationship with death, the taboo of death, which is the core of this story. They use a different kid to explore death... and then they do nothing with it, the kid quickly devolves into "killer child" crap. Good talk, guys.

Literally like only 25% of the book is in it, Jud was supposed to show them the cemetery, at the beginning. They couldn't even do that. It's not a terrible movie, but it definitely is worse in terms of what happens

Maybe for it's "time" but by today's standards, it's not that good. Especially that original ending. This movie "reinvents" the story in a better more watchable and believable way. Nobody likes the original ending, at least this one is split between liking the dark ending and those who say it's too dark.
Same, I watched that movie when I was really young and came back to it when I was older. Both times affected me in the way good movies should, I loved it

Hey dudes love your reviews, if possible could you guys do something with the sound as at times you can barely hear other joe so you boost the volume and then angry joe screams straight after it almost making you deaf. If you guys added a compressor on your voices it would be great or boost other joe a good bit more it would be great. Thanks continue the great job
You can argue that certain things made a bit more sense to be made into a movie, but What characters were better- Jud- no. Louis- no. Rachael- no. Gage- no. Ellie- yes. Zelda- no. Rachael's parents- no. Missy- no. Pascow- no. Batermans- no. Special effects- there's some dated stuff in the original, so the cgi stuff is decent in the new one compared to that cheesy stuff, but the practical were better in the original when they were applied correctly, compared to the cgi stuff in the new one. I don't even like the story that much, original one is better, and closer to the book, which isn't always better, but in this case it is. new one- 5.5/10 Old one- 8.5/10
I saw the movie yesterday with my older cousin, as a fan of horror, don’t watch it, as a casual viewer, don’t watch it, The jump cuts are trash, the director discovered the fade effect half way through and used it for a few scenes before dropping it, and finally there was no real horror, just jump scares, fnaf did jump scares well and mixed it with creepy lore, this on the other hand, sucked ass, there was no real tension and zelda looks less like a human with serious spinal issues and more like a decent CGI monster, The only great acting I saw was the actress who played ellie and the cat who played Church (which was better in the original). I give Pet Semetary (2019) a 3/10. Watch the original instead.
I've always trusted other Joe's opinion when verifying movies reviews. We all have different taste in movies, but he's never steered me wrong yet. On that note good review guys!
Highly recommend reading he book and seeing how important how each character makes the story, Judds relationship with Lewis and how he talks and explains the history is quite important to the setting.

Original was better, but this one had a few nice things for people who saw the original one that twist you expectations in certain scenes which i LOVED (it was worth watching just for that for me) Overall it felt a lot more censored for some reason. Stabbing off screen, no blood, body perfectly intact with no blood at all after being hit by a semi-trailer (which i can understand because dead kids and 2019) just don't show the body at all so it's more convincing) The best thing about this movie was probably the acting of the girl. Other Joe is right on the money with this one for sure.

yeah, like a 5.5...lithgow was good but underused....pascow too....it was too polished....not very interesting....but yes, had tension...and i like the very first scene...opening credits/last scene...the micmac grounds looked way too sound-stagey....
BTW Angry Joe You should DEFINITELY read The original Novel because in the Novel Zelda actually attempted to make good on her threat of killing Rachael and committing suicide at the same time she poured keroscean from an old lamp on her bed and was holding Rachael's hand hard enough to crush Rachaels fingers while she was holding a burning match in her hands threatening to burn the house down with both of them in it Zelda actually sets the bed on fire and Rachael is able to put the fire out GREAT SCENE IN THE NOVEL
Totally agree with other joe here. Liked this one but the tension was way better in the o.g. 1. Beside the odd comic moment with Pascow. Would rate it a 6.5 slash 7 instead of 5 though. Really like the daughter in this one.
The most memorable chapter of the book, for me, was the father climbing the cemetery gates and exhuming his son. So grim, so macabre. Is it in the new one? I don't know, I guess I'd better check it out.
Other Joe is kind of like neville. Years back when I first started watching I thought he was weird. But over time he slowly, almost imperceptibly turned into a badass. : D

It wasnt scary tho. And ellie being the new one made more sense but thats about the only good things about it. Those kids we saw in the beginning of the movie with those masks should have been improved on. We dont know who they are and if they are just like ellie because they ARE wearing pet masks. But they never get shown anymore
Agree with OJ and will go even further - I would say that this is even below average horror movie. It rushed through the first act (could not establish any relations between characters girl-cat, girl-Jud, Jud-Louis, Louis-Pascow was... just there too), second act was the rest of the movie and the third was kinda missing. This movie needed at 30 more minutes and I am not sure that with the everything else it would've been saved. The little girl towards the end was really, really bad. The ending itself felt cheap and corny and my girlfriend even said said "Where they supposed to be like a boy band there at the last shot?" A huge disappointment and a missed opportunity. NOTHING like "It" or "The Mist", as an examples for a good (horror) King adaptations.
I agree with Other Joe. I saw the movie at a special screening and I was kind of disappointed as it felt a tad bit generic. I was hoping to see them expand upon the pet semetary lore but it never does.
Jason Clarke’s acting was really good. His character has some education and brains(tho he obviously did stupid things) who uses logic and reasoning to explain certain events. He wasn’t yelling or screaming because he realized he fucked up and was in danger so he didn’t want to get his daughter upset. Some people react to certain things differently and since he was a man of logic then it makes sense that he was more calm.
I really think that other Joe should have his own channel. He has natural charisma and really does come across as a very nice down to earth guy. I think his channel would be just as big as Angryjoe
I found the new Pet Semetary very predictable. Mostly it's a string of jump scares which you see coming a mile away. Effects and acting were a bit better - granted - but overall it's an inferior movie that tries to throw Shaymalan-style curve balls. The older movie was scarier I thought, relies less on stupid jump scares.
This remake was terrible, bogus jump scares that were so predictable, they ruin any surprise with the trailer. And the way they opened the movie gave away the ending. Nothing about this movie was remarkable or good, just a very shitty remake with King's name to make money.
There was a lot of unneeded scenes, like the kids walking down the path and learning about a “wendigo” COUGH COUGH, looked more like a skinwalker to me COUGH COUGH. Same as the sister, they dragged her on too long where it wasn’t scary to see her.
I'm not a big Jason Clark fan either, honestly was rather disappointed at 1st hearing he was playing the father in this remake :( Going to see Today! I've heard more good reviews on people liking this than not. Great review guys!
Please talk louder, or turn the audio up on your end. I have to dang near max out my sound volume just to hear you guys, whereas every other video and chat is around 50%. The AJ game reviews are usually not like this either, so it is very specifically the headsets/mics you use for this sort of format.
I give it a 6, I am not sure how to feel afterward. In contrast, I gave the new IT an 8, perhaps 8.5. It was very pleasant, and I think it followed the book better than most felt it did. There were many nods to the book. Pet Semetary, however, was a bit underwhelming. It was mostly creepy, and the only scene that had me on edge was with Judd. All the others were too predictable.
Joe and Other Joe strongly disagreeing with each other on a serious level, this is a rare moment in history.

The first movie was a horror film. This remake was a dreadful tragedy. The bathtub scene and the dancing scene was chilling and unnerving.

yeah, like a 5.5...lithgow was good but underused....pascow too....it was too polished....not very interesting....but yes, had tension...and i like the very first scene...opening credits/last scene...the micmac grounds looked way too sound-stagey....

Fred Gwynne trying to do an old Mainer accent was my favorite thing from the original pet sematary.
BTW Angry Joe You should DEFINITELY read The original Novel because in the Novel Zelda actually attempted to make good on her threat of killing Rachael and committing suicide at the same time she poured keroscean from an old lamp on her bed and was holding Rachael's hand hard enough to crush Rachaels fingers while she was holding a burning match in her hands threatening to burn the house down with both of them in it Zelda actually sets the bed on fire and Rachael is able to put the fire out GREAT SCENE IN THE NOVEL
Totally agree with other joe here. Liked this one but the tension was way better in the o.g. 1. Beside the odd comic moment with Pascow. Would rate it a 6.5 slash 7 instead of 5 though. Really like the daughter in this one.
The most memorable chapter of the book, for me, was the father climbing the cemetery gates and exhuming his son. So grim, so macabre. Is it in the new one? I don't know, I guess I'd better check it out.
I enjoyed the old one, will check this one out. The new Suspiria was better than I thought it would be, hope this one is enjoyable to!

It wasnt scary tho. And ellie being the new one made more sense but thats about the only good things about it. Those kids we saw in the beginning of the movie with those masks should have been improved on. We dont know who they are and if they are just like ellie because they ARE wearing pet masks. But they never get shown anymore
Agree with OJ and will go even further - I would say that this is even below average horror movie. It rushed through the first act (could not establish any relations between characters girl-cat, girl-Jud, Jud-Louis, Louis-Pascow was... just there too), second act was the rest of the movie and the third was kinda missing. This movie needed at 30 more minutes and I am not sure that with the everything else it would've been saved. The little girl towards the end was really, really bad. The ending itself felt cheap and corny and my girlfriend even said said "Where they supposed to be like a boy band there at the last shot?"
A huge disappointment and a missed opportunity. NOTHING like "It" or "The Mist", as an examples for a good (horror) King adaptations.
No the trailers were not "deceptive" the gave the movie away.

I agree with Other Joe. I saw the movie at a special screening and I was kind of disappointed as it felt a tad bit generic. I was hoping to see them expand upon the pet semetary lore but it never does.
Jason Clarke’s acting was really good. His character has some education and brains(tho he obviously did stupid things) who uses logic and reasoning to explain certain events. He wasn’t yelling or screaming because he realized he fucked up and was in danger so he didn’t want to get his daughter upset. Some people react to certain things differently and since he was a man of logic then it makes sense that he was more calm.
I really think that other Joe should have his own channel. He has natural charisma and really does come across as a very nice down to earth guy. I think his channel would be just as big as Angryjoe

I found the new Pet Semetary very predictable. Mostly it's a string of jump scares which you see coming a mile away.
Effects and acting were a bit better - granted - but overall it's an inferior movie that tries to throw Shaymalan-style curve balls.
The older movie was scarier I thought, relies less on stupid jump scares.

This remake was terrible, bogus jump scares that were so predictable, they ruin any surprise with the trailer. And the way they opened the movie gave away the ending. Nothing about this movie was remarkable or good, just a very shitty remake with King's name to make money.

There was a lot of unneeded scenes, like the kids walking down the path and learning about a “wendigo” COUGH COUGH, looked more like a skinwalker to me COUGH COUGH. Same as the sister, they dragged her on too long where it wasn’t scary to see her.
I'm not a big Jason Clark fan either, honestly was rather disappointed at 1st hearing he was playing the father in this remake :( Going to see Today! I've heard more good reviews on people liking this than not. Great review guys!
Please talk louder, or turn the audio up on your end. I have to dang near max out my sound volume just to hear you guys, whereas every other video and chat is around 50%. The AJ game reviews are usually not like this either, so it is very specifically the headsets/mics you use for this sort of format.
I give it a 6, I am not sure how to feel afterward. In contrast, I gave the new IT an 8, perhaps 8.5. It was very pleasant, and I think it followed the book better than most felt it did. There were many nods to the book. Pet Semetary, however, was a bit underwhelming. It was mostly creepy, and the only scene that had me on edge was with Judd. All the others were too predictable.
I kinda want a Horror movie review with OJ. He know his horror. Like how Alex handles the gaming news.
I put a lot of creedence in you guys' movie reviews almost as much as the game reviews, gotta say I wanna see this now
