White death There are a few hidden away in one of the fake brotherhood bunkers in hidden valley. There are also a couple in Nellis. Most primary merchants like the Gun runners also sell them.

When I first create my character, I always go for 25 Barter, Repair, Speech/Sneak, Medicine & (if possible) Explosives to get everything from Ghost Town Gunfight, then I re-create my character when given the option.
fal flam That’s a gamble. The best way to do that would be Intelligence 9 and boost your luck, then gamble enough to buy the Intelligence before gaining too many levels.
@@Jessie_Helms not true, I did the same, with strength also having points taken off because of the reinforced spine in OWB. By level 45 I had almost every skill to 100 and by 50 I was maxed everywhere. And I always dump charisma to 1 because I don't use followers and speech/barter are what I end up raising first anyways, so I don't need the base charisma points to start with a higher level, which lets me start with a higher base skill everywhere else and a starting intelligence of 9 and luck of 7. Practically made the game too easy with that build once you get the luck implant/naughty nightwear/lucky shades you have a luck of 10 and the intelligence implant gives you 10 intelligence. If you have a high enough luck, blackjack is essentially a button mashing money machine, so the cost of implants is out the door as soon as you have enough money to get on the strip, and have scooped the naughty nightwear.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the "Good Natured" trait. It takes five points away from every combat skill, and gives them to Barter, Medicine, Repair, Science, and Speech. Since you're only likely to really use one (maybe two) combat skills, that works out to a net gain of 15-20 skill points in things that will actually help you, "stolen" from skills you won't lose. You're going to have your primary combat skill Tagged anyway, which means it's getting a fifteen point boost before having five taken away. While character skill does play a factor in gunplay, player skill arguably counts for more, unless you're relying on VATS. Additionally, if you follow the advice here and take Guns skill, then Merc outfits, which raise guns by five and have some armour on them, are easy to come by, and will allow you to get by in the early game, until you can raise your skill and get better armour. The tradeoff is arguably a no-brainer.
@@minerva9104 I agree, but I think Skilled is a DLC trait. If you have the DLC though, it essentially has no drawback. You can earn the experience points you need to level just by doing more fighting, and in return you get a buttload of extra skill points. I just bought the DLC and taking Skilled honestly blew my mind; I'm passing all kinds of checks in the early game that ordinarily I couldn't pass.

My only OCD is the volume on electronics. When it's not in increments of 5 it seriously stresses me out lol. Say someone sets the volume on the tv at 51 instead of 45,50,55 etc. I won't even be able to watch the show until the volume is changed. I don't even hear the words coming from the tv over my own anxiety lol. Its not full blown ocd but I've met a couple others with the exact same volume issue.

One Trait I love (Requires Old World Blues) as it automatically increases ALL skills by 5 points off the bat and damages your xp gain by 10%. However, this can be COMPLETELY negated at level 2!

I always liked the Good Natured trait. All your combat skills lose 5 points while all your "pacifist" skills gain 5 points. Chances are you'll only really be using one or two of the main combat skills, but you'll almost definitely be making heavy use of Speech, Science, Medicine, Repair, and Barter. So while technically you're losing 25 points and gaining them elsewhere for no net skill change, in actuality you're only losing 5 or 10 skill points and gaining 25 for a net gain of 15 or 20 into skills you actually use.
Best trait combo I found, with dlc, is Good Natured (+5 passive,-5 aggressive)and Skilled (+5 all, -10% XP). The penalty of Good Natured is negated and it's bonus is doubled by Skilled. So you'll see +10 passive, +/-0 aggressive, -10% XP. I haven't confirmed it, but before leaving Goodsprings the finalization prompt appears, take these traits again and you'll get +15 passive, +5 aggressive, -10% XP.

If you want to make an overpowered character just max out luck in beginning and put intelligence to 7, after that you can make thousands of caps at casinos and you just crit everything.
If your playing a sniper build I highly recommend using the "Elite Riot Gear" you can get from the Lonesome Road dlc. Medium armor, 22 dt and has +5 crit chance, +10 guns and +1 charisma. Although it is a little heavy at 23 lbs it's a great set of armor and it's pretty easy to find as long as you can get through most of the dlc. It also looks really badass, like Riot Gear with armor plating!
Depends on what you want to do. If you really want to min max you take 9 in int and 9 luck and head straight to the casino before hitting level 2. win big and buy the int implant before you hit level 2. my standard character usually looks something like S3 P5 E7 C2 I9 A5 L9 and then i pick my tagged skills based on the kind of character I want to play i take talented and small framed. Try to get all of the implants as soon as possible. Take intense training every chance you get. usually i start building my charisma up so that my followers aren't useless when playing legendary.
That does still create a powerful character, but because you lose the ability to gain the point from the implant you technically lose one point over all. It's more about min maxing than anything else. As long as you enjoy the game.then there is nothing wrong with your character.

I remember watching this video around the time New Vegas first came out. It helped me understand the builds and taught me that everyone should put 10 into intelligence at the beginning. A lesson that few seem to take advantage of to this day. I am going to start another run today. It’s going to be an explosives only build. With just fists and the dart gun as a runaway tool. My guy is a brilliant explosives expert, sneaky, coward. That being said he cannot use any projectile explosives such as missile launchers, grenade launchers, etc… he builds/uses explosives and that’s it. Grenades, dynamite, and various mines are pretty much it. Should be fun wish me luck! Also I’ll set the difficult on very easy and my character does not use any armor just causal wear. I normally play on very hard but I want the explosives to be as realistic as possible. I think the low difficulty will balance well with the handicap. Good luck out there vault dwellers!

A lesson that few seem to take advantage of to this day." because it's really bad advice, and has only gotten worse with all the dlc bringing the level cap to 50 meaning you can easily max all your skills. Even if you INT maxed you should only take 9 int (personally I'd go for 7-8 base INT) and then run north to vegas then take the sewers to the medical clinic and buy the INT implant at level 1 (you can easily get the caps by cleaning out the silver rush especially if you tag barter/sneak).

rory willis I was at level 8,with the Anti Material Rifle,explosive rounds,and....what else,what else...Oh yeah.I knew the "use any ammo glitch".Just equip any weapon,go into the "hotkey" menu,hold down the button,go to the "ammo" menu,and "hotkey" any of the ammo the weapon you have equiped into any of the 8 spaces.
I always go with Guns, Lockpick, and Speech. Sometimes I go with Repair instead of Speech but honestly I don't find repair to be something I always need to put points into. I can make weapon repair kits and if I find enough of the same weapon it doesn't matter.
I was going to be a hater, on account of the incorrect information, but this video is so clean. Especially for 2010, the presentation on display is a marvel. This is a fantastic youtube video, even despite the fact that every single bit of subjective information is wrong. To clarify, Melee and Unarmed are likely the most powerful skills in the game, as they have the strongest perks and chems. The SPECIAL section is incomplete. You should never put a SPECIAL stat at 10 because of the New Vegas Medical Clinic and their implants. Charisma is, despite popular belief, actually quite good. The issue is that Charisma is only viable if you build around it. You should have advised the 'Call of Duty bros' to drop Charisma to 1. Luck has an effect on casino chance as well as crit chance. This makes it particularly valuable; especially if perception isn't a dump stat. 6 perception gets you access to the perk: 'Better Criticals.' Educated AND comprehension is overkill. It is never necessary to max out every skill. The perk slot can be better spent. Again, this video is excellent. My issue is not with the excellent narration, clean graphics, or solid pacing. My issue is that the majority of the information is wrong.
Also, the game had only been out for like a month when you made this. It is genuinely impressive how close the video is. It is, though, still incorrect. Worse, it's both engaging and authoritative, despite the lack of correct information.

Stuff not mentioned in the video i found. Its very niece but helps 1. Drain charisma to 1. There are 3 charisma based checks in the game and none of which are on the main quest/important/lock you out of something. All charisma perks are garbage as well. 2. Always have your intelligence at a odd number. This is because even nunbers give you a flat 0 whereas a odd is a .5 meaning on levelup it goes to a full number so you get consistent skill points once you get a implant. 3. Luck is the best stat in game. It gives you a free 40k caps from casinos, 10% flat crit chance, and some lick based checks. 4. Keep perception at 5, the highest perception based perk is better criticals at 6 so get a implant. It only affects skills and actually doesn't do anything to help with accuracy in vats. 5. If you have dlc, don't bother putting strength higher than 7, reinforced spine from owb plus implant is 10 so you are wasting special. 6. For skills, barter is actually really good in new vegas. Theres quite a few barter checks and it saves you a lot of money. You can also sell items for more profit, which is something you will do a lot of. If you have 100 in barter and do lonesome road, you can easily leave the lonesome road with 100-150k caps 7. Reguardless of character type, always buy a shovel from chet and go to chances grave outside of goodsprings and grab chances knife. Its one of the best melee weapons in game, so much so even a non melee character can tear through the early game with it up to about nipton. Its also a holdout weapon. 8. The sex based lvl 2 perks are some of the strongest in game. Its essencially a flat 10% dmg buff against half the enemies you face ontop of multiple free speech checks to get your way. You can even flirt with lightswitches with it. 9. I need to get a life I have 600+ hours on one save
Great guide but I disagree with the support and secondary options. Sneak is very useful in that it allows you to perform hit and runs and kill most enemies instantly. And speech allows you to get so much more out of the dialogue in the game and is a must have if playing a diplomatic character.
Gonna modify the SPECIAL’s distribution a bit: Charisma is effectively useless, only really playing a role in companion nerve. Perception is pretty much useless as well if you have ED-E in your party, which I always do. Endurance allows you to get more implants; luck allows better criticals and getting a ton of money from casinos. Those are the most important attributes (next to intelligence, obviously), which allows you to get the best gear quickly. So this is how mine usually stack up: S=5 P=2 E=6 C=2 I=7 A=5 L=8 With these stats making a god-tier character is super easy. Take the 4-eyes trait and befriend the legion, at least for a time, to get access to their safe house and the Lucky Shades, giving you a perception bonus AND a +1 to luck. At the end of Lonesome Road get the Blackjack courier duster raising luck again by 1. Get the Lucky pistol from the Bison Steve, the Finesse and Better Critical perks, the cowboy perk and the lever action shotgun coupled with Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Down perks, and supplement your other stats with implants, and you just made a completely invincible and filthy rich luck-based cowboy.
Will, you forgot that Science also works as a support, every time you fire a weapon you have a chance of getting an empty charge that you can reuse. The same goes for Repair to make ammunition...
Usually my strategy on New Vegas is to get as much stuff as possible in Doc Mitchell's house. Choose the Wild Wastelands and the Trigger Disciplined perk. My tag skills are Guns, Lockpick, and Science. The First thing I do after doing the 2/3 parts of the tutorial is go east and then north to the 188 Trading Post. Then I just do whatever. That's what I usually go through as my basics from level 1-5. What skills I use may differ, but I don't use unarmed, melee, or explosives. So I'll always need trigger disciplined. Anyways, that's just my own guide.

Trigger Discipline is something I always take. A bit more accuracy for a bit slower fire rate is actually a double benefit as it means you can hit your mark easier and won't waste as much ammo if you are using a full-auto weapon. I tend to prefer semi-auto over full-auto anyways so I don't actually lose out.

I understand your anger, but the fact is Bethesda clearly had a specific ending meant for cannon. You could choose how to end it, but the main character was meant to follow in the footsteps of his father and sacrifice himself for the better good. Be as angry as you want, but it's clear that the story had an intended direction and player choice was only considered after that fact.
Viewers don't be discouraged to do the other styles of play but just remember to stick to them and not sway to others too much. My favorite was maxing out my melee and unarmed where I became a unstoppable gladiator but with class as I also maxed out my charisma since if you don't you can miss out a lot on the funny dialogue and lore of New Vegas.

I would argue that Speech is more important than Lockpick, especially for the fact that you can't redo a speech check while you can always go back to pick a lock, and many quests require you to pass a speech check to get some of their endings. I usually tag Speech, Guns, and Repair.
I would argue that high speech is required for a good karma ending to some of the DLCs. 1. In dead money speech is needed for merging dog/god and not pissing off your other two companions. You need it to convince Father Elijah to come down to get the safety deposit box achievement. 2. in honest hearts you need speech to convince Joshua Graham to spare the white legs chieftan, this sets a good example for the sorrows tribe and keeps their alliance with the Dead Horses friendly/neutral while ensuring safe trade passage through Zion canyon. 3. old world blues speech isn't quite as important as intelligence and science skills, but you need both high intelligence, high speech and high science if you want the think tank scientists to rebel against Doctor Klein and forge an alliance with you at the end. The ending slides then state that the courier brings interesting discoveries their way in addition to gaining scientific and analytical support after the end of the game. In addition getting the Think Tank and Mobius to still be alive at the end of the DLC grants you the ability to get small amounts of caps ammo and mentats from them as well as scrap that's useful when making ballistic ammo. 4. in the lonesome road dlc high speech and befriending the Ed-e clone grant you the ability to convince Ulysses to stand down and to halt the firing of nuclear missiles altogether rather than having to choose whether or not to bomb the NCR or bomb the Legion. Yes you miss out on extra loot you would have gotten from not bombing both but this is the only way to get Idol status with the brotherhood of steel. If you want to keep Veronica and go for an ending that requires the Brotherhood be destroyed this is the ending to the DLC that you want. There's a very good case to be made then that a good karma fallout new vegas dlc ending REQUIRES a high speech build. Also, I've gotten all my skills to 100 before. :D
I prefer starting with 9 endurance and 1 charisma so I can get all the implants. Intelligence's usefulness in New Vegas has been cut in half, and you'll get skill point boosts with all those implants anyway, as well as more SPECIAL points. Also, Intense Training. Every rank of it. 10 Luck. Better Criticals, Finesse, Built to Destroy...you get the idea.

Doesn't that enclave eyebot follower boost your essential perception in terms of detecting NPCs/enemies? Probably should have mentioned this as the eyebot counts as a "pet" and is definitely better for a shooter player than that robotic dog.
The eyebot's perk basically gives you the benefits of having 10 perception without actually giving it to you. You can basically see people from farther away that's it.
Does it add a certain amount of perception or just jack it up to 10 for the sake of detection? It might be viable for a shooter to have 1 perception then in that case...
Heh, you asked. Sorry for the incoming essay. Fallout is supposed to be a hardcore RPG. It was made very much with lore, in-depth characters, and stats for those characters at the core of the game. The Original devs took many ques from Dungeons&Dragons and things like that. The more detail and time the devs put into making the interworkings of an RPG complex and nuanced the more replayability you have. Simple as that. Bethesda seems hell-bent on removing much of what made the original games and also Fallout: New Vegas a game for the true hardcore gamers. Removing an entire portion of the character building process and replacing it with what I assume will be just a copy of the skill system in Skyrim will neuter the game significantly. An organic system takes away the time and effort put into planning out a character figuring out exactly what you want to do and then making it a reality. Fallout is NOT a game where you should be a god. Every person plays the game differently. Every strategy utilizes different skills in the game. As such every player's character should be different as well. Let me ask you what the fuck is the point of playing through the game multiple times if every character you make ends up being THE EXACT SAME maxed out character by the end? It's just another step at taking a storied franchise away from the die-hard fans and crafting it for the everyman. Thing is, many times the everyman is fickle. Sure you temporarily grab his attention but the people who would have stuck by you through the apocalypse if you simply kept to your original philosophies won't come back if they leave. It happens with EVERY franchise it seems. The Hardcore super nerdy people build hype for a game they love. Then the general public hear about it, try their hand and have fun. The devs see the gravy train and freak out, changing the game so much that it's barely recognizable from the original product. The hardcore crowd leaves. Then they build hype for something else eventually causing the general public to leave in their footsteps. This is what I'm seeing with Fallout.Yemto
CrypticSilhouett I see where you are comming from. But simply changing intelligence from earning more skill points, to more experience points, would in my opinion not ruin the game. As long as they keep dialog options and perks for high and mid intelligence. To me, intelligence 8 is a must, which I feel is wrong. Since it's not really a choice, unless you want to cripple the character. I feel like this change will balance the special. But I don't consider myself as a hardcore player, so take my opinion as you please.
My character: S 6 P 4 E 6 C 7 I 9 A 4 L 4 Tag: Medicine, Speech, and Repair, Guns once I get the Tag! Skill. Traits: Good Natured and Wild Wasteland (SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT MENTIONING WILD WASTELAND AKA THE BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE GAME!) I max lockpick first, followed by repair, medicine, speech, guns, and then whatever takes my fancy (usually survival and science). Rush Old World Blues to get the bonus resistances, strength, and addiction prevention, followed by Dead Money to get the 37 gold bars that I stick in my safe on Big Empty, use that to buy the best shit the Gun Runners have. Get the regeneration and damage resistance implants, followed by strength, then perception, then agility, then luck, then go to Big Empty and get the crouch implants there. Always take Long Haul, Strong Back, Burden to Bear, and Heavyweight so I can carry enough weapons on me to equip a brigade of NCR troops. Educated for early point earnin, toughness x2 for insane DR, Life Giver for extra HP, Adamantium Skeleton because I always play hardcore mode. And always install the mod that allows you to smoke cigarettes.

Early speech is good as it gives you more options to conserve ammunition, which is crucial early game before you hit the point where bullets are as common as, well, Fallout. 2. A higher charisma skill means your comrades are stronger. Since I play on hardcore mode, and because fuck Legionary Assassins, that's kinda necessary. By the time I hit level 50 I'm at about 450 HP, while ED-E and Lily are at 580 and 650 respectively.

Want a really challenge? Tag skills Melee, Energy Weapons, and whatever as long as it's not support or guns. Very Hard, Hardcore. All SPECIAL stats at 1 and no implants.
You should also note taking Cannibalism perk, that perk gives you health when crouching (The price is demoralization). The reason why this is being said, is that the fact is that you have FREE FOOD from enemies with flesh. Sure it may make you into the evil ending, but it's still advised to take it for adding health if injured. I did the Wild Wasteland to see if I can spot the changes, other was the Experience Points one. That's about it for me.
What I don't understand about the Jury Rigging Perk is that you need to be level 14 and have 90 in repair. Someone would need to put nearly all their points upon level up until they reach like level 10 before they have enough repair skill. It's because of that I don't get jury rigging until I'm at least level 25
Well, you need the parts to repair ED-E or high science/repair so if you go the repair route you'll have 65 by the time you hit primm. (Or 55 if you decide to use a mag)

Not taking Wild wasteland has some nice perks to. Like being able to find the unique variant of the Gauss rifle or being able to find more mini nukes.

When I first create my character, I always go for 25 Barter, Repair, Speech/Sneak, Medicine & (if possible) Explosives to get everything from Ghost Town Gunfight, then I re-create my character when given the option.

But having the intelligence skill points at 9 means you have an extra point for use. You can get the intelligence implant to get Intelligence level 10

The best way to do that would be Intelligence 9 and boost your luck, then gamble enough to buy the Intelligence before gaining too many levels.
@@Jessie_Helms not true, I did the same, with strength also having points taken off because of the reinforced spine in OWB. By level 45 I had almost every skill to 100 and by 50 I was maxed everywhere. And I always dump charisma to 1 because I don't use followers and speech/barter are what I end up raising first anyways, so I don't need the base charisma points to start with a higher level, which lets me start with a higher base skill everywhere else and a starting intelligence of 9 and luck of 7. Practically made the game too easy with that build once you get the luck implant/naughty nightwear/lucky shades you have a luck of 10 and the intelligence implant gives you 10 intelligence. If you have a high enough luck, blackjack is essentially a button mashing money machine, so the cost of implants is out the door as soon as you have enough money to get on the strip, and have scooped the naughty nightwear.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the "Good Natured" trait. It takes five points away from every combat skill, and gives them to Barter, Medicine, Repair, Science, and Speech. Since you're only likely to really use one (maybe two) combat skills, that works out to a net gain of 15-20 skill points in things that will actually help you, "stolen" from skills you won't lose. You're going to have your primary combat skill Tagged anyway, which means it's getting a fifteen point boost before having five taken away. While character skill does play a factor in gunplay, player skill arguably counts for more, unless you're relying on VATS. Additionally, if you follow the advice here and take Guns skill, then Merc outfits, which raise guns by five and have some armour on them, are easy to come by, and will allow you to get by in the early game, until you can raise your skill and get better armour. The tradeoff is arguably a no-brainer.
I actually like using almost all the combat skills, leaving out only 1, maybe 2

@@minerva9104 I agree, but I think Skilled is a DLC trait. If you have the DLC though, it essentially has no drawback. You can earn the experience points you need to level just by doing more fighting, and in return you get a buttload of extra skill points. I just bought the DLC and taking Skilled honestly blew my mind; I'm passing all kinds of checks in the early game that ordinarily I couldn't pass.

My only OCD is the volume on electronics. When it's not in increments of 5 it seriously stresses me out lol. Say someone sets the volume on the tv at 51 instead of 45,50,55 etc. I won't even be able to watch the show until the volume is changed. I don't even hear the words coming from the tv over my own anxiety lol. Its not full blown ocd but I've met a couple others with the exact same volume issue.

One Trait I love (Requires Old World Blues) as it automatically increases ALL skills by 5 points off the bat and damages your xp gain by 10%. However, this can be COMPLETELY negated at level 2!

I always liked the Good Natured trait. All your combat skills lose 5 points while all your "pacifist" skills gain 5 points. Chances are you'll only really be using one or two of the main combat skills, but you'll almost definitely be making heavy use of Speech, Science, Medicine, Repair, and Barter. So while technically you're losing 25 points and gaining them elsewhere for no net skill change, in actuality you're only losing 5 or 10 skill points and gaining 25 for a net gain of 15 or 20 into skills you actually use.

I chose higher luck to win at all the casinos and then used the caps on implants.
Best trait combo I found, with dlc, is Good Natured (+5 passive,-5 aggressive)and Skilled (+5 all, -10% XP). The penalty of Good Natured is negated and it's bonus is doubled by Skilled. So you'll see +10 passive, +/-0 aggressive, -10% XP. I haven't confirmed it, but before leaving Goodsprings the finalization prompt appears, take these traits again and you'll get +15 passive, +5 aggressive, -10% XP.
I didn't realize it's been about 9 years since I first started watching these, I had bought NV at a pawnshop and used these guides for so much help.
Keep in mind the DLCs for New Vegas will raise your level cap to 50.

If you want to make an overpowered character just max out luck in beginning and put intelligence to 7, after that you can make thousands of caps at casinos and you just crit everything.

I only put intelligence at 7 and 1 luck and I'm making nearly 10,000 caps from grabbing good loot and selling it.
If your playing a sniper build I highly recommend using the "Elite Riot Gear" you can get from the Lonesome Road dlc. Medium armor, 22 dt and has +5 crit chance, +10 guns and +1 charisma. Although it is a little heavy at 23 lbs it's a great set of armor and it's pretty easy to find as long as you can get through most of the dlc. It also looks really badass, like Riot Gear with armor plating!

Depends on what you want to do. If you really want to min max you take 9 in int and 9 luck and head straight to the casino before hitting level 2. win big and buy the int implant before you hit level 2. my standard character usually looks something like S3 P5 E7 C2 I9 A5 L9 and then i pick my tagged skills based on the kind of character I want to play i take talented and small framed. Try to get all of the implants as soon as possible. Take intense training every chance you get. usually i start building my charisma up so that my followers aren't useless when playing legendary.
All I do is put all my 5 points in intelligence
That does still create a powerful character, but because you lose the ability to gain the point from the implant you technically lose one point over all. It's more about min maxing than anything else. As long as you enjoy the game.then there is nothing wrong with your character.
George Sandoval True, but its not exactly an easy trip between Goodsprings and New Vegas. By the time I got to New Vegas, and this was using the traditional route with a few detours, I was already level 20 at least.

I remember watching this video around the time New Vegas first came out. It helped me understand the builds and taught me that everyone should put 10 into intelligence at the beginning. A lesson that few seem to take advantage of to this day. I am going to start another run today. It’s going to be an explosives only build. With just fists and the dart gun as a runaway tool. My guy is a brilliant explosives expert, sneaky, coward. That being said he cannot use any projectile explosives such as missile launchers, grenade launchers, etc… he builds/uses explosives and that’s it. Grenades, dynamite, and various mines are pretty much it. Should be fun wish me luck! Also I’ll set the difficult on very easy and my character does not use any armor just causal wear. I normally play on very hard but I want the explosives to be as realistic as possible. I think the low difficulty will balance well with the handicap. Good luck out there vault dwellers!

because it's really bad advice, and has only gotten worse with all the dlc bringing the level cap to 50 meaning you can easily max all your skills.
Even if you INT maxed you should only take 9 int (personally I'd go for 7-8 base INT) and then run north to vegas then take the sewers to the medical clinic and buy the INT implant at level 1 (you can easily get the caps by cleaning out the silver rush especially if you tag barter/sneak).

I always go with Guns, Lockpick, and Speech. Sometimes I go with Repair instead of Speech but honestly I don't find repair to be something I always need to put points into. I can make weapon repair kits and if I find enough of the same weapon it doesn't matter.
Unless you need a unique weapon like That Gun to be repaired.

I was going to be a hater, on account of the incorrect information, but this video is so clean. Especially for 2010, the presentation on display is a marvel. This is a fantastic youtube video, even despite the fact that every single bit of subjective information is wrong.
To clarify, Melee and Unarmed are likely the most powerful skills in the game, as they have the strongest perks and chems. The SPECIAL section is incomplete. You should never put a SPECIAL stat at 10 because of the New Vegas Medical Clinic and their implants. Charisma is, despite popular belief, actually quite good. The issue is that Charisma is only viable if you build around it. You should have advised the 'Call of Duty bros' to drop Charisma to 1. Luck has an effect on casino chance as well as crit chance. This makes it particularly valuable; especially if perception isn't a dump stat. 6 perception gets you access to the perk: 'Better Criticals.'
Educated AND comprehension is overkill. It is never necessary to max out every skill. The perk slot can be better spent.
Again, this video is excellent. My issue is not with the excellent narration, clean graphics, or solid pacing. My issue is that the majority of the information is wrong.
Also, the game had only been out for like a month when you made this. It is genuinely impressive how close the video is. It is, though, still incorrect. Worse, it's both engaging and authoritative, despite the lack of correct information.

Stuff not mentioned in the video i found. Its very niece but helps
1. Drain charisma to 1. There are 3 charisma based checks in the game and none of which are on the main quest/important/lock you out of something. All charisma perks are garbage as well.
2. Always have your intelligence at a odd number. This is because even nunbers give you a flat 0 whereas a odd is a .5 meaning on levelup it goes to a full number so you get consistent skill points once you get a implant.
3. Luck is the best stat in game. It gives you a free 40k caps from casinos, 10% flat crit chance, and some lick based checks.
4. Keep perception at 5, the highest perception based perk is better criticals at 6 so get a implant. It only affects skills and actually doesn't do anything to help with accuracy in vats.
5. If you have dlc, don't bother putting strength higher than 7, reinforced spine from owb plus implant is 10 so you are wasting special.
6. For skills, barter is actually really good in new vegas. Theres quite a few barter checks and it saves you a lot of money. You can also sell items for more profit, which is something you will do a lot of. If you have 100 in barter and do lonesome road, you can easily leave the lonesome road with 100-150k caps
7. Reguardless of character type, always buy a shovel from chet and go to chances grave outside of goodsprings and grab chances knife. Its one of the best melee weapons in game, so much so even a non melee character can tear through the early game with it up to about nipton. Its also a holdout weapon.
8. The sex based lvl 2 perks are some of the strongest in game. Its essencially a flat 10% dmg buff against half the enemies you face ontop of multiple free speech checks to get your way. You can even flirt with lightswitches with it.
9. I need to get a life I have 600+ hours on one save
This is actually a really well made guide. That's pretty neat.
Great guide but I disagree with the support and secondary options. Sneak is very useful in that it allows you to perform hit and runs and kill most enemies instantly. And speech allows you to get so much more out of the dialogue in the game and is a must have if playing a diplomatic character.

Gonna modify the SPECIAL’s distribution a bit:
Charisma is effectively useless, only really playing a role in companion nerve. Perception is pretty much useless as well if you have ED-E in your party, which I always do. Endurance allows you to get more implants; luck allows better criticals and getting a ton of money from casinos. Those are the most important attributes (next to intelligence, obviously), which allows you to get the best gear quickly. So this is how mine usually stack up:
S=5
P=2
E=6
C=2
I=7
A=5
L=8
With these stats making a god-tier character is super easy. Take the 4-eyes trait and befriend the legion, at least for a time, to get access to their safe house and the Lucky Shades, giving you a perception bonus AND a +1 to luck. At the end of Lonesome Road get the Blackjack courier duster raising luck again by 1. Get the Lucky pistol from the Bison Steve, the Finesse and Better Critical perks, the cowboy perk and the lever action shotgun coupled with Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Down perks, and supplement your other stats with implants, and you just made a completely invincible and filthy rich luck-based cowboy.
Will, you forgot that Science also works as a support, every time you fire a weapon you have a chance of getting an empty charge that you can reuse. The same goes for Repair to make ammunition...
After well about 100+ characters in this game, I still come back to watch this video. It's just that well made

Usually my strategy on New Vegas is to get as much stuff as possible in Doc Mitchell's house. Choose the Wild Wastelands and the Trigger Disciplined perk. My tag skills are Guns, Lockpick, and Science. The First thing I do after doing the 2/3 parts of the tutorial is go east and then north to the 188 Trading Post. Then I just do whatever. That's what I usually go through as my basics from level 1-5. What skills I use may differ, but I don't use unarmed, melee, or explosives. So I'll always need trigger disciplined. Anyways, that's just my own guide.

Trigger Discipline is something I always take. A bit more accuracy for a bit slower fire rate is actually a double benefit as it means you can hit your mark easier and won't waste as much ammo if you are using a full-auto weapon. I tend to prefer semi-auto over full-auto anyways so I don't actually lose out.

I find science more useful than lock pick as science skill can effect dialog options as well as provide access to certain perks and chems.

I understand your anger, but the fact is Bethesda clearly had a specific ending meant for cannon. You could choose how to end it, but the main character was meant to follow in the footsteps of his father and sacrifice himself for the better good.
Be as angry as you want, but it's clear that the story had an intended direction and player choice was only considered after that fact.
I made a strictly explosives only character and its so much freaking fun. Make sure you have high endurance though.

I think the actual character creation is one of the best parts. I love it how older games let your destroy your character's face so much.
Viewers don't be discouraged to do the other styles of play but just remember to stick to them and not sway to others too much. My favorite was maxing out my melee and unarmed where I became a unstoppable gladiator but with class as I also maxed out my charisma since if you don't you can miss out a lot on the funny dialogue and lore of New Vegas.
I can't thank william strife enough for this guide, all of the new vegas ones actually. I've been using this one in particular for about 5 or 6 years now and every time I start a new character I pause the game look up this guide and follow it. Thank you for this guide
I would argue that Speech is more important than Lockpick, especially for the fact that you can't redo a speech check while you can always go back to pick a lock, and many quests require you to pass a speech check to get some of their endings. I usually tag Speech, Guns, and Repair.

I would argue that high speech is required for a good karma ending to some of the DLCs.
1. In dead money speech is needed for merging dog/god and not pissing off your other two companions. You need it to convince Father Elijah to come down to get the safety deposit box achievement.
2. in honest hearts you need speech to convince Joshua Graham to spare the white legs chieftan, this sets a good example for the sorrows tribe and keeps their alliance with the Dead Horses friendly/neutral while ensuring safe trade passage through Zion canyon.
3. old world blues speech isn't quite as important as intelligence and science skills, but you need both high intelligence, high speech and high science if you want the think tank scientists to rebel against Doctor Klein and forge an alliance with you at the end. 4. in the lonesome road dlc high speech and befriending the Ed-e clone grant you the ability to convince Ulysses to stand down and to halt the firing of nuclear missiles altogether rather than having to choose whether or not to bomb the NCR or bomb the Legion. Yes you miss out on extra loot you would have gotten from not bombing both but this is the only way to get Idol status with the brotherhood of steel. If you want to keep Veronica and go for an ending that requires the Brotherhood be destroyed this is the ending to the DLC that you want.
There's a very good case to be made then that a good karma fallout new vegas dlc ending REQUIRES a high speech build.

I prefer starting with 9 endurance and 1 charisma so I can get all the implants. Intelligence's usefulness in New Vegas has been cut in half, and you'll get skill point boosts with all those implants anyway, as well as more SPECIAL points.
Also, Intense Training. Every rank of it. 10 Luck. Better Criticals, Finesse, Built to Destroy...you get the idea.

Doesn't that enclave eyebot follower boost your essential perception in terms of detecting NPCs/enemies? Probably should have mentioned this as the eyebot counts as a "pet" and is definitely better for a shooter player than that robotic dog.
The eyebot's perk basically gives you the benefits of having 10 perception without actually giving it to you. You can basically see people from farther away that's it.
Does it add a certain amount of perception or just jack it up to 10 for the sake of detection? It might be viable for a shooter to have 1 perception then in that case...

Fallout is supposed to be a hardcore RPG. It was made very much with lore, in-depth characters, and stats for those characters at the core of the game. The Original devs took many ques from Dungeons&Dragons and things like that. The more detail and time the devs put into making the interworkings of an RPG complex and nuanced the more replayability you have. Simple as that.
Bethesda seems hell-bent on removing much of what made the original games and also Fallout: New Vegas a game for the true hardcore gamers. Removing an entire portion of the character building process and replacing it with what I assume will be just a copy of the skill system in Skyrim will neuter the game significantly. An organic system takes away the time and effort put into planning out a character figuring out exactly what you want to do and then making it a reality. Fallout is NOT a game where you should be a god. Every person plays the game differently. Every strategy utilizes different skills in the game. As such every player's character should be different as well. Let me ask you what the fuck is the point of playing through the game multiple times if every character you make ends up being THE EXACT SAME maxed out character by the end?
It's just another step at taking a storied franchise away from the die-hard fans and crafting it for the everyman.
Thing is, many times the everyman is fickle. Sure you temporarily grab his attention but the people who would have stuck by you through the apocalypse if you simply kept to your original philosophies won't come back if they leave.
It happens with EVERY franchise it seems. The Hardcore super nerdy people build hype for a game they love. Then the general public hear about it, try their hand and have fun. The devs see the gravy train and freak out, changing the game so much that it's barely recognizable from the original product. The hardcore crowd leaves. Then they build hype for something else eventually causing the general public to leave in their footsteps. This is what I'm seeing with Fallout.Yemto
CrypticSilhouett I see where you are comming from. But simply changing intelligence from earning more skill points, to more experience points, would in my opinion not ruin the game. As long as they keep dialog options and perks for high and mid intelligence.
To me, intelligence 8 is a must, which I feel is wrong. Since it's not really a choice, unless you want to cripple the character. I feel like this change will balance the special.
But I don't consider myself as a hardcore player, so take my opinion as you please.

Tag: Medicine, Speech, and Repair, Guns once I get the Tag! Skill.
Traits: Good Natured and Wild Wasteland (SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT MENTIONING WILD WASTELAND AKA THE BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE GAME!)
I max lockpick first, followed by repair, medicine, speech, guns, and then whatever takes my fancy (usually survival and science).
Rush Old World Blues to get the bonus resistances, strength, and addiction prevention, followed by Dead Money to get the 37 gold bars that I stick in my safe on Big Empty, use that to buy the best shit the Gun Runners have. Get the regeneration and damage resistance implants, followed by strength, then perception, then agility, then luck, then go to Big Empty and get the crouch implants there.
Always take Long Haul, Strong Back, Burden to Bear, and Heavyweight so I can carry enough weapons on me to equip a brigade of NCR troops. Educated for early point earnin, toughness x2 for insane DR, Life Giver for extra HP, Adamantium Skeleton because I always play hardcore mode.
And always install the mod that allows you to smoke cigarettes.
Perfect.
I find charisma useless I just up speech wit skill points

1. Early speech is good as it gives you more options to conserve ammunition, which is crucial early game before you hit the point where bullets are as common as, well, Fallout.
2. A higher charisma skill means your comrades are stronger. Since I play on hardcore mode, and because fuck Legionary Assassins, that's kinda necessary. By the time I hit level 50 I'm at about 450 HP, while ED-E and Lily are at 580 and 650 respectively.
+Remlap1223 In hardcore mode very hard i play Solo no companions which means charisma is useless. But thats just my opinion.

Melee and unarmed is not only powerful, but much more fun than guns
T-Pose Kek it’s also easyer to do the arsenal quests with the unarmed/melee weapons of their choice then by using guns
You should also note taking Cannibalism perk, that perk gives you health when crouching (The price is demoralization).
The reason why this is being said, is that the fact is that you have FREE FOOD from enemies with flesh. Sure it may make you into the evil ending, but it's still advised to take it for adding health if injured. I did the Wild Wasteland to see if I can spot the changes, other was the Experience Points one. That's about it for me.

What I don't understand about the Jury Rigging Perk is that you need to be level 14 and have 90 in repair. Someone would need to put nearly all their points upon level up until they reach like level 10 before they have enough repair skill. It's because of that I don't get jury rigging until I'm at least level 25
Well, you need the parts to repair ED-E or high science/repair so if you go the repair route you'll have 65 by the time you hit primm. (Or 55 if you decide to use a mag)
