For all those wondering how difficult or heavy is it to hold while gaming. This is not that hard to game on. It's very easy while laying in bed. Then while sitting down just relax your elbows on your legs and I could game for a pretty long time.

motion assistant does have autotdp. Enable the "optimize GPU" option and select "Float" then set your TDP to something high like 34 W and use RTSS frame limiter to set your in game fps (for example 40 fps) and it'll automatically use the minimum TDP to maintain whatever you set the frame limit to be. Also hotkeys are super convenient and you don't have to look at the ugly interface. I like to map hot key shortcuts to the back buttons...for example I have the left back button mapped to ctrl+alt and all I have to do is press that plus a key to activate a shortcut. Really, the only hotkeys you really need are the custom TDP hotkeys...set one to be your TDP to play intensive games (34 W) and have one to be a low TDP for regular PC usage (I like to use 7 W for regular internet browsing/media consumption). Also assigning hotkeys to adjust frame limit in RTSS is super convenient

      Thanks for that!
I thought the GPU float thing may had been something like that but I hadn't had a chance to fully tool around with it.
There will be more content featuring this device. Especially since I'll be converting it to my desktop basically.
I have set up some hot keys and honestly with the convenience of having the keyboard attached, I just use those key combos for my hot keys (shift + f1 etc)
I personally do not like the back buttons on this device and have them disabled.
But, it still kinda validates my point I think. That motion assistant is crap. It's poorly laid out, it's ugly and not intuitive (imo).
With the amount of money these devices typically generate on IGG and beyond. You figure they would either develop or pay someone to build their own software to rival something like aya space, I havent seen this in person but from what I have seen its so much better than MA.
They could even hire or contract out one of the devs (if willing) to build their own GPD specific "handheld companion" or something.
If I was the one responsible for this software, compared to the competition. I'd be embarrassed...

@@WinDeckTech I don't like the back buttons for gaming either, but for activating hotkeys when holding the device like a handheld, it's super convenient as you don't have to shift your hand position (for example, ctrl+alt on the left back button + 9 or 0 swaps between high/low tdp's on mine).
I agree, motion assistant isn't the prettiest or user friendly program to use and took me a while to learn how to actually use it but I hear they're working on a more user friendly GUI so hopefully that fixes things.

I was going to pick this up a couple of months ago as I skipped out on the prior one. When I heard it was only 60Hz it was a deal breaker. Hopefully next year it will be at least 120Hz with VRR.
I ended up buying an X16 3060 for $1,100 to go along with my XGM 6850M XT which I only got for $600 which in sharing with my Ally. A great trio if you ask me. $2,400 for 2 devices that could have 6850M power. A year ago you could only get 1.😊
I just built a 13th i9 4090 desktop as well for all of my other needs. I don't plan on getting rid of it cause it's just awesome to look at. 😊 It's my 4K 120Hz+ gaming device.

That's awesome! The x16 is a super nice machine (the whole flow lineup is)
The 60hz screen is a shame, especially since the mini will have a 120hz.
However, with this machine when playing I'd find myself cranking the textures up because at this size you can notice those differences more than on the ally.
Sounds like you have a killer setup!

The wobbly base is because the torque settings of the screws on the backplate are apparently not the same.
You can very very carefully adjust that like a guitar luthier getting the setup proper.
I have a Pocket3 and ran into that only after I removed the backplate and reinstalled it, then had to readjust the tension of the screws slightly on only a few of them.
The dollar store has some different types of rubber feet to consider, or if your insane, a glob of silicon or goop to make your in in molds made from bottle caps to cure the feet to whatever shape.
I just grabbed a used Win3 that has a magnesium plastic casing unlike the Pocket3, but are identical processors, and I want to find a way to turn the joysticks and triggers into pitch bend wheels for use with live recording of various VST music synths. Even its flat keyboard I've realized its benefit for use as a ribbon controller to add additional usability as a type of music instrument. I want to consider eventually making a cellphone type case for it. It will have a low profile custom thinline gel casing eventually after 3d scanning the device and making a proper 3d printed mold.
Portable these are, next is to panasonic toughbook durablize em.
In the 70's, you could perform home construction using a dialphone handset if no hammer around to hang a picture on a wall etc.
Devices these days could soon be like that with graphene drop from the roof durability.

Hey thanks so much for the tip on the wobbling!
Also I honestly didn't even think about someone using this as a music/dj controller or having that as your unit instead of a big ass laptop. These things are pretty portable but I agree if there was a durable option as well, similar to the military/law enforcement grade that could be a niche market to excel in for them

I have the first model of the Win Max 2 and I love it. When the netbooks came out I was poor and couldn't get one. This fulfills that hole left in my life. It has replaced my main notebook. I don't play games with it using the game controls, it is a little large for that, but I play with keyboard/mouse or a gamepad. I was on the fence about getting a Win Mini or a Legion Go. I hear they will fix the heat issue on the Mini but I kinda fear the ergonomics will suck. I didn't consider the inset sticks would be too sunken for less than ideal travel. Maybe having a smaller lighter frame helps the mini over the max ergonomics but both have the same sticks so I dont know. Everyone seems to like the mini as is, over the optional attachable grips but it's hard to tell if thats legit or just gpd fanboying a little with all of the hype. Hence I want to look at the Lenovo. Boy it's so hard to choose one's 1st handheld.😅

    • @WinDeckTech

      I hear that.
I would say that the WM2 and mini would be the least comfortable Handhelds just due to their design.
You can get grips for both (3d printed) but I'd rather not have grips on the wm2.
This is not a device you could play for hours on end without worrying about ergonomics. I do find I am shifting my position more often than what I would be with the ROG ally

I was able to re do and recalibrate their joysticks and triggers through their provided software.
However, it is still a very clunky process. Although this may not have been the absolute best demonstration I can definitely say that afterwards I tested off camera (before the calibration) and they were indeed giving 100% at 80-90% pull, with the right trigger being slightly worse than the left. After calibration though it was no issue. It was nowhere near as off as my ROG ally pre calibration

More recent GPD computers have been feeling worse with ergonomics lately, I've sticked with WIN 2 and MAX 2021 all because ive tried the newer ones and they just dont compare to older GPD handhelds in terms of ergonomics. The analog sticks feel so poor now, the trigger buttons and annoying for setting it down as they accidentally click often and the weight even on the WIN 4 is too much. I'm desperate for the WIN MINI to be good, ill find a way to change its analog sticks lol.

The ergos on this are, okay
It is far from the most comfortable device I own. The thing that annoys me the most about their products is the fact that they seem to put little to know effort into the software experience. Their hardware (at least based solely on the WM2) is extremely premium feeling. Holding up so far. Expect to see it featured in some content over the coming months. I have made a dedicated oculink egpu setup. I have a RX 6600 that actually pairs quite nicely with it, as well I have a 4090 that is severely bottlenecked haha.
Durability, no issues. At first I treated it quite gently as I was worried about the finish getting scratched or marred. Over the past month or so I have been more rough with it (my version of rough could still be described as gentle to many) but having it rub up against other types of metallic materials have left no marks that I can see.
The controls still operate as day, with the triggers/joysticks being better post calibration through their new ish app.
Nothing has broken so far on it and quite honestly, is a contender for a true desktop replacement with the oculink setup. Or at the very least a solid option for a living room console replacement.

Yeah I was made aware of that by someone else as well, I blame myself for not looking more into it. However, can the user be blamed when there isn't much instruction?
Compared to the ayaneo air 1s I have (2023) the interface is a real treat to use.
It's not perfect but I know exactly how to do what I want to do. I've never had a desire or need to install Handheld companion or something similar.
It's a shame because the WM2 is a highly premium feeling device.. in my eyes this laptop is a windows Chromebook with the amazing benefit that you can game on it.
I really wish they would just give up and higher an indie dev to make something good for them, not just compatible with, but built from ground up for it.
Otherwise to be quite honest with you. I see no advantage to recommending GPD over Ayaneo. Especially since they are coming out with a slide and a clamshell as well.

It exists to fill a market, where the people in it, have both: limited space & a need for super portable, multi functional, performance.
Where else can you get- 8 cores, 16 threads. 24MB Cache, a 5.2GHz- boost clock. 12 CUs of respectably fast RDNA3 graphics, boosted by a hefty 64GB of LPDDR5X 7500MT/s memory. And the ability to dock your OTG-MLG to a well stacked Desktop GPU, through a 63GB/s connector?

@@WinDeckTech it depends on the game because it depends on what specific graphical features the games are running. There really is a lot to explain with this alone, but whenever you see a benchmark with an AMD card performing slightly better than the equivalent Nvidia card it's because the game is using more simpler graphical features. This is especially true for console ports. Consoles are also notoriously underpowered when compared to PC. I really can't sit here and explain all this to you. But think of AMD cards like a motorcycle engine. It's very very fast but only because it's carrying no weight. And the Nvidia card is exactly like a muscle car engine. Nvidia cards are really like a step above the rest. You have to perform a lot of mental gymnastics and rely on benchmark mechanics which you don't fully understand to really believe amd cards are somehow comparable. Nvidia cards are really some of the most luxurious technology components you can purchase on earth. And the price is not what makes them luxury. It's the design and performance. Absolutely for sure. On top of the poor AMD performance of the actual hardware, but the drivers are also lacking in many substantial features. And believe me this is not a joke about driver instability or anything like that. There are thousands of older Windows games all the way up into the Xbox 360 PS3 generation which are not compatible with AMD cards because the drivers are lacking actual support. And last time I checked AMD cards still do not even properly work with Google Chrome web browser which is also very poor. Chrome is a very important thing on PC. Really can't believe I'm sitting here and explaining all this to you.
