Same way with computers and phones. My 83 year old dad only uses a dumb phone and keeps it turned off unless he needs to make a call. He won't use an answering machine on his home landline. His perspective is that if he is not home, he's not home. If you want to talk to him, call back or come to his house...
In 2005 at AIT, one female soldier said she is a lesbian, and she openly said she plans to use the benefits. If she ever get call for deployment, she will come out saying she is lesbian so she can get kick out.. well if she stayed till Obama era, i am sure she got angry at obama for ruining her plan 🤣

Not to mention theoretically you could end up with a dishonorable discharge if they wanted to get punitive with it, and that's basically like having a record with felonies. Shit like this is why the GI Bill needs to be reimagined.

One just came up on orders for Korea. The 1SG looked at both on them and said; " You're Outstanding Soldiers, get out of my f☆cling office. The lesbian troops had to make a complaint to JAG to get both kicked out of the Army.

I didn't mind it that much, it was more the stupid things that came with it. Like daily room checks, "Why is your sink wet? Why is there a single tiny thing of trash in your whole trash can!?! You pig!" kind of stuff. Or 1sg coming in and having to deal with 3-4 grown men parading around another grown mans room looking for some dust or something so he could say something to make him feel better that he said something. Like this is not a zoo, go away. I get it, some of the guys lived nasty / crazy but deal with them case by case. It's great when you know damn well their houses were wayyy worse, having been to several of theirs. Feel as if some of them forget that tiny room is basically that solders home, granted still the "army's barracks", but still his / her home. And should treat it that way, though I get what get checked gets done kind of thing so not saying never check it but just relax about it if your solider isn't living all crazy...like say 11 freaking pizza boxes under his bed.... -.- Though thankfully a large part of my B time was with older SGTs who where more chill about it to me. Was a far bit older than the normal 18 year old kids, and after a few weeks of checking with no issues relaxed when it came to me. I think that dumb stuff / feeling of "can't get away" from the Army for even a day makes most want to bail on the Bs as soon as possible. Long as you don't have complete trash, black mold, how are we not dead living here kind of barracks. (Looking at you Korea). And the few that treat it like a frat house that ruin it for the rest of us. The barracks could be fairly nice with a few small changes.
@@wolfhunter98 I spent most of my time at JB Lewis McCord, never really had issues with leadership getting overly anal about barracks checks. Once someone got busted with a personal firearm in the barracks, it was a little intense for awhile after that. I think a lot of this could solved if they let E4's with a certain amount of time, say a year or more, left on their contracts live off post. By the time you make specialist you should be mature enough to be able to handle showing up for formation on time. I also think it would give the Army some incentive to upgrade barracks facilities enough to make people want to stay in them. Or on the reverse side just relieve the need for as much barracks space.
Served in the military for 5 years i personally beleive atleast half the marraiges are done for the benefits for BAH or health insurance. Everyone just turns a blind eye when they suspect or know its happening.
Y'all skits trip me out, when the soldiers married for bah😅 / 🤔 this means contract must still be a big thing, I knew a young couple that got married young private. Marrying a girl with child may or may not be his kid, to get benefits and little bit more money because of dependents. Oh one more thing " not to be busted down in rank for what little I have " 😂 . This sorta double-dipping for duel BAH from barracks buddies was epic. Had this happen in my barracks as soon as DADT went out the window. Dunno if it went through, but my understanding is that you can't double dip as duel military for BAH unless you're at different posts. Anyone care to let me know if that went through?
