Charlie is my brother in law Robert was my husband and his Mother’s name Irma Wilson not Lucy. GAP stands for Greenwood ,Archer & pine street we’re the streets that some of them in the band members lived on Lonnie Got them away from Mercury Records and Created Total Experience Record Company They all were addicted & depressed over That last Contract ☝🏽 with Lonnie a division came after using the Gap Band to get Charlie back out front preparing to go Solo and so Robert and Ronnie felt like he was leaving them out. But people just wanted to hear Gap Band Songs that is why Charlie still plays those songs still to this day. Ronnie & Robert RIP .Gone but never forgotten

Then years later I went to his concert, and baby he told his story, I who was already a fan, became a superfan. I'm so proud of uncle Charlie. When my friend and I went to Las Vegas for the Steve Harvey Hoodies Awards, there was an all white party, and Charlie Wilson performed. He stated that he was over 20 years clean with the help of God and his wife. It was a great show.

When he said he just had two new replacements but didn’t want to miss the concert- I screamed even louder.

Uncle Charlie got on that stage and was jukkin his butt off...it was an amazing show...I've loved The Gap Band since I was 10. Have their greatest hits cd in the car now, and my grandson loves listening to Early in the Morning, one of my favorites ❤
Never ceases to amaze me how a lot of older generation adults had no problem being physically abusive with their children and calling it discipline, all the while they themselves were out in the streets acting a whole hot mess, and of course felt they didn't deserve any form of checking for their horrible actions. With songs such as "Whoops Up Side Your Head" "Burn Rubber On Me" and my very favorite "Yearning For Your Love". The 80's was something serious. It's incredible to believe that I was a teenager then and a senior citizen present day with loving grandchildren. Charlie Wilson's testimony of his trials and tribulations is heartfelt. It's a story such as he's what keeps so many people to continue in faith. Lonnie Simmons was the owner of the Total Experience club in L.A., which was the precursor to Total Experience Productions, which also managed DJ Rogers, which later became Total Experience Records, which also signed Yarborough and Peoples.
Those on that record label Total Experience made hits but no money. That’s why Yarborough and Peoples left and went back to Texas. Lonnie Simmons was a very shady self-centered businessman.

I love Uncle Charlie! I went to see him & Kem in concert in Atl in 2015 & they both sounded just like the records but you knew it was live. When I tell you Uncle Charlie put on a show baby! He put on a show! He had dancers he was doing dance routines with them. He had on this suit that lit up in the dark! & he had a praise break bc he said TMH brought him through & he promised that he would always give him praise in all of his shows & he did just that! It was one of the best concerts I've been too!💯

Yearning for your love, has got to be one of my all time favorite songs .T It is a song that is stuck on the random playlist in my head, and Outstanding, I mean definitely a Black B.B.Q. summertime masterpiece. I mean that song along with Frankie Beverly before I let go, Cameo Word up, Kool and the Gang Summer time madness, and Cheryl's Encore. Those songs ushered in the Summertime Black BBQ music mix which later would include Will Smith's Summertime, R. Kelly step in the name of love, The Electric slide, all the way to the Cha Cha slide and even Hot girl summer vibe. I love Uncle Charlie! I went to see him & Kem in concert in Atl in 2015 & they both sounded just like the records but you knew it was live. When I tell you Uncle Charlie put on a show baby! He put on a show! He had dancers he was doing dance routines with them. He had on this suit that lit up in the dark! & he had a praise break bc he said TMH brought him through & he promised that he would always give him praise in all of his shows & he did just that! It was one of the best concerts I've been too!💯

Yearning for your love, has got to be one of my all time favorite songs .T It is a song that is stuck on the random playlist in my head, and Outstanding, I mean definitely a Black B.B.Q. summertime masterpiece. I mean that song along with Frankie Beverly before I let go, Cameo Word up, Kool and the Gang Summer time madness, and Cheryl's Encore.
