I saw Pearl Bailey in concert back in 1985. She was absolutely fantastic and kept the audience in the palm of her hand the entire time.
I remember the episode of Living Single, when Regine was catering some big event and all the old men kept hitting on Khadijah (Queen Latifah) and asking her to do songs and said she looked like Pearl Bailey.
I said the same thing that Queen Latifah reminds me of pearl Bailey and Megan Thee Stallion reminds me of queen Latifah funny isn’t it put all three of them together and you’ll see what I’m talking about.🤗

When Italians were first coming to America, especially into the Southern regions of America, they were classified as Negros.

Most immigrants, regardless of race , stick together. More than likely, her father in law was 1st or 2nd generation Italian & did what most races do...wanted their kids to marry & have kids with people that have the same background/heritage

Back in the days it was hard for black actresses in show biz. Especially dark skin women so I guess Mrs Pearl Bailey did some antics to keep her career striving.

As a child in the late 70s maybe 75 or 76 me and my Family met her initially in the lobby of a hotel in Canada while we was on vacation. She was at first going off on the front desk, but I'll admit it wasn't way overdone. She not only made sure her accommodations were taken care of but she made sure our accommodations were upgraded. We ended up staying next to her and taken care of very nicely. She talked a lot to my parents .she acted as much excited to be around blacks as we were to be around her,, as if she didn't get that much. She acted more like a down home southern Woman . I remember my parents talking about how she was nothing like how people portrayed her to be. Her and my father was able to talk a little about Mahilia Jackson because my daddy knew her from being in school in Tallahassee

She could be good on her best day and horrible on her worst. We caught on a few good days

Unless you called it Uncle Tom, you would be whitewashing her toxicity by making a movie about her. She elevated herself by aligning with powerful racists. So you wouldn't even be arguing for a film if she wasn't trading her skin color with the Klan for clout. We don't make movies about those people, white or black. We aren't making an Ernst Rohm Movie or an F.W. De Klerk movie. That said, no one is owed a movie.

I had the pleasure of meeting her in person as 😊 a teen . She was lovely , she had her drivver stop to ask my friend and I directions , her sister was our neighbor . She was visiting and also in town to support another friend , Lydia Jackson , who possess a pure operatic voice . She help Lydia get into Julliard . I love this woman , 9h and she was very beautiful ! What a delight, to meet an icon !

Great video. I knew of Pearl Bailey from the detergent commercials she did in the '80's, when I was a kid. I think they were Tide commercials. I didn't really know if she was a singer or an actress. She was both, but she would make a good movie documentary. Great storytelling.
