I thought of that, too. Remember when my mom spoke on my grandmother wanting to get a job, and my grandfather told her no. Why? She needed to stay home and raise the kids (10). She died at 56 from cancer. I look at women from that generation differently. Blacks couldn't get birth control until the 70s. She loved comedy, but she never smiled a lot. They were private, so I never really knew how she felt about matters.

I watched an interview Smokey did with Vlad a few short years ago. He talked about the miscarriages, but he said the two that stood out the most were the first one and the last one. The first one because Claudette was on the road with The Miracles doing some shows close to Christmas (a lot of Motown artists did those shows to hustle up some money for Christmas gifts for their families) while pregnant and Smokey was at home super sick with the flu or something. He got a call from Mary Wells saying Claudette was bleeding a lot and he needed to come get her. So he ended up flying to where they were, getting her, bringing her back to Detroit, and when they got to the hospital, they found out the baby didn't make it. The last miscarriage stood out to him because they ordered a stroller from a catalog and the salesman came to their home to demonstrate it. The salesman said if things don't work out, they could return the stroller and get a full refund. Claudette and Smokey laughed and said that wouldn't be necessary since they just KNEW they were having this baby. After all, Claudette was the furthest along she had ever been. Some time later, she went into labor. The child was stillborn, I believe. They really went through so much.

I just heard an interview from Smokey over the weekend on his Satellite station. He said that he loved Cowboys when he was little. His uncle would take him to see Cowboy movies and gave him the nickname Smokey Joe after one of the Cowboys in the movie and when he became a teenager his friends left off the Joe and just called him Smokey for short.

Hey Ashley. Thanks for this video on Smokey Robinson. I read his book and it was full of tea. His "Gasms" album was very entertaining. He's also a great poet. Good, bad, or indifferent, Smokey is a legend. It's great to see that he's still touring.
I read smokey first book. It's a quick read considering it was written in the late 80s. He did talk about his drug abuse,cheating and divorce. Today he's an open book about music,dreamgirls, and motown history. and still tours in his 80s.
