I took my ex wife to see Patti Labelle and Gerald Levert at The Fox Theater in Detroit in1999 and after Levert was done opening up, me and my wife ran into one of my buddies who was a local music promoter. He took us backstage to meet Gerald Levert and i remember it was a bunch of people back there, a whole lot of Churches Chicken and some Miller Genuine Drafts. We were able to take a picture with Levert and a few months later me and my wife had a bad fallout and i moved out briefly, when i came back a couple months later i noticed our picture on the mantle with Levert only showed her next to him because she took some scissors and cut me out the picture smh lol.

My auntie was this man biggest fan. Everyone in Miami knew how much she love him. The day he died I remember vividly because my aunt was crying so hard that the police came over asking was she ok. I told them “Gerald levert died,” and that man rolled his eyes so hard at us. I was so embarrassed because we was out in public and so many ppl came over to check up on her😂😂. She was so distraught that she couldn’t drive home and she wouldn’t let me drive because I still had my restricts, so I had to call my mama and brother to drive the car home…lol. I was pissed tf off so bad..my mama & brothers was laughing so hard lol . To this day I’m trying to figure out how the he’ll she got an obituary from this man funeral

He pulled her on stage and sung “Baby hold on to me,” she called my mama around 4am screaming and hollering talking about he sung to her and kissed her…lol. They took a picture that night but somehow the picture half way developed she cried so bad. Lol

Her current husband of 15 years just laugh at her cause he said “my wife is sick in the head about a decease man.” 😂😂😂 to this day she still love him like that lol

I met his dad when I was little girl. I was so confused I didn’t understand how how the son got so old😂 I use to see the rude boys and man at large. They Recording studio was on 93 right across from my grandparents house. We use to sit on the porch and wait for them to come out every time..

This is so sad. Gerald Levert was a one of a kind artist. He was a favorite of mine. He sang every note with his soul. His duets with Miki Howard were 🔥. Such a heartbreaking end for him and for Sean. He wasn’t even given the basics of care. Their poor mom losing both sons. I cannot imagine.

The Industry has yet to explain how you can sell A Million Copies of an album and not be considered "pop". "Pop" means "popular", not "white" and it don't get much more popular than ONE MILLION PEOPLE buying your album; ESPECIALLY in the 80s/90s when you had to LEAVE YOUR HOUSE and GO TO THE RECORD STORE to buy an album. The industry is so very intentionally unfair.
Very true about Kim. My uncle Joe Little checked ✔️ TF outta Kim for talking to me crazy cause I was sitting next to Gerald. Kim said, "oh, she family." 😅 she really was 🤪 crazy about Gerald.

She was snappy with me too and G and I were just friends. I never seen a woman that obsessed over a man like she was with G. G didn't like her personality really because she was too goofy and aggressive.
I knew it was something about Kim I can't stand. She comes across as fake and crazy. MoNique got her together though a few months ago.

Unfortunately the doctor never diagnosee Gerald with pneumonia. He went home, self-medicated which resulted in the accidental overdose. Many of Gerald's family members were on his payroll which pressured him to work when he was not well.
Sean's Law was passed in Ohio after that jail practically killed him.
Doctor was on some bs, one of the easiest things to diagnose
Every time I hear about the LeVert brothers, I get sad. I had such a HUGE crush on Gerald.
Gerald was my celebrity crush and still is.
The fact they were VERY young when LeVert took off in the mid to late 80s makes this very sad. LeVert was a legendary group and Gerald Levert is a legend by himself. Tragic ending for both brothers. ☹️

Sean called Eddie to bail him out once he was arrested. It happened like on a Thursday or Friday. Eddie wanted him to sit in jail over the weekend before bailing him out. Eddie told this story on the Tom Joyner show.

I saw the Sean video when it first happened and that truly broke my heart to see him suffering and being mistreated while incarcerated. I’m retired from the jail and every inmate that comes do a intake with the nurse and then the doctor after being there a day or two. And then someone from the mental health department do an assessment with them as well. So the jail he was in definitely dropped the ball including the guards. They should’ve alerted someone from the mental health department as soon as he started acting strange…smh. May Sean and Gerald continue to Rest In Peace 🙏🏾

One of my close friends was ONE of his boos. I remember when he passed. She was devastated. She knew his family and everything. She went to his funeral. She flew out from Oakland, CA to Ohio. She took a week off from work. His death really affected her. But like I said... she was ONE of his boos...😢 she met Kim but Kim didnt like her (the competition). Kim WAS really jealous and possessive. 😂. Kim wouldn't leave the room because my friend was there. Kim was in the hotel room reading scripts for Cousin Skeeter when they met. She went to celebrity parties with G and saw Eddie & Johnnie openly as a couple. G had to tell her to close her mouth. 🤣 She was SHOCKED to see the truth in her face. G warned her not to take any pictures with her phone or he wouldn't take her anywhere else. She wanted to take pics of E & J SO bad, but she knew she couldn't. True story. Funny, but she was one of Cedric's boos too. She said "you know how Cedric moves when he dances? Well, Ced got moves in the bdrm too." What? She had me cracking up!😂 My friend was truly a groupie. She's married now and a faithful Jehovah's Witness and an author. She also met Mary J and was put forth to Mary to be her stylist, but Mary chose someone else. This was after Mary stopped working with Misa as her stylist. My girl is fly though... still. RIP Eddie and Shawn.

@NajiLovely my friend has so many stories. She would "hold court" as we all sat around and listened to her stories. Girrrlah... it was A LOT! It could be a series or even a book, like Superhead Karrine Steffan did, but she is so far removed from that life now. She's an author, but she doesn't write about that part of her life. She is a devout Jehovah's Witness, and I am a devout Christian now. She won't write about that part of her life. But it's cool that I was pseudo part of that life through her. Nothing wrong with remembering the past. 🤷🏽♀️

I met the Leverts when I was little and their family are some the sweetest people that I have met!

Me and Marc Gordan went to school together...we were marching band...he played trumpet...NOBODY knew he could sing. He was EXTREMELY QUITE!!..You couldnt stick him with a pin and make him say OUCH...LOL...funny...like Gerald song says...They had Geralds funeral downtown and it was a CRAZY!!..it was open to the public we stood outstide for HOURS...it was a like a who's who of entertainers...EVERYONE that was free that day (entertainers wise ) showed up....I think it lasted about 4-5 hours...it was CRZY..I remeber the actor who played "Pinky: in Next Friday Clifton Powell taking it really hard...he had a heartfelt speech about his estrangement from his own son at that time...I also remember ..every food vendor IN CLEVELAND was downtown making money...They were regular guys here. You would see them just round and about everywhere. Gerald was the one who encouraged Kym whitley...he was the one who told her she looked like Jackee Harry from 227 and she should go out to hollywood she was funny and talented. She went to school not far from me Shaker Hts. It was as a stonethrow away from my high school. As a matter of fact our schools were rivalries...LOL .LAST UPDATE...The original funeral/memorial was supposed to be at the same church that the two black pastors who back TRUMP here in Cleveland. That infamous Darryl C Scott and His wife...(two criminals ex pimp, drugs, skipped out on their mansion rent and got sued..another story) up in Cleveland Hts BUT Gerald's family or mother is a DEVOUT jehovah's witness and FORBID it to be held inside a church. Its a mega church. So they had it downtown at the convention center.
Kym Whitley was no teenager when she dated Gerald. Kym is about five years older than Gerald.
Just an added note from a Clevelander. Per investigation, Sean never had a legal prescription for the pills, and none of his healthcare providers would verify or write a prescription for the Cuyahoga County jail. The county settled with the family because they did not have Sean evaluated after he presented to the jail with the baggie full of pills. The jail still doesn't give prescription drugs to inmates without a verified prescription.

Thanks @AshleySaysSo. I waited patiently for the Gerald Levert story. When it was announced that he died, I was driving home from work and had to pull over because the tears started flowing. I think because of the untimeliness of his death, I got really sad. Thanks for this story.

My family and I had an opportunity to meet LeVert back around '87 when my father worked for Miller Brewing company. They use to throw concerts thru their Miller Sound express company. We met alot of celebs back then: Roger and Zapp, Shirley Murdock, Isley brothers,etc. Man those were the days!
