PASIC Finale 2018... 6 generations of DCI snare champions... we had to play something together :-) I love the fact that you can hear the progression of tuning, with the tap-offs, from the 60's to today...
@@SupraaHero I know it was rehearsed. I was making a lighthearted joke. Some drummers like to show off. That's what we do. In this case, I don't think anybody was expecting visuals in the tap off which made for a cool and exciting ending.
I miss DCI all the time, being around guys like Jeff Queen, Nick Angelis, the center snare from my Corp when I aged out Doug Clark and you ScoJo, you were at the Blue Devils as Caption head by the time I came into the fold but I miss you guys.
ScoJo! Had the privilege to meet you at Stanford in maybe 2013-14. Thank you for taking the time and thank you for all you have done for percussionist across N. America.
He has the most perfect stance possible for a marching drummer when playing. And in visual terms, is one of the best things because he stands out more than the others in a good way. Jeff Queen is a legend and a huge inspiration.
@@hooray4paradiddles the football Jeff Queen and that one are the same bc if you look at the pics In the football articles he looks the same as in the vid
“More suspect” as In more rhythmically complex? Which was the entire purpose of the demonstration to begin with? Are you claiming that they weren’t in time or what?
Probably because it’s traditional.... also match grip on snare looks way too symmetrical and therefore ugly. Also it’s not terrible for posture and your muscles if you actually learn how to do it properly.
I mean Brandon has scoliosis which being a percussionist doing that I have so much respect for. The modern drums are heavier and that means more painful in general to use them
I understand that traditional grip came from drumming-as-a-time-keeper for troops on battle field, e.g.., Revolution War period, when the drummer would actually need to be able to sling the drum to their side, AND keep playing, whilst marching/running from to/from opponents
have to admit, somewhere down the line, you get hear a drop in quality of attack and tempo. alright i will tell you. the last 2 have horrible quality and temp control . its like they are millenials...oh , they are. too much rap and metronome electronica...while the others graduated from the metronome long ago, and went way past it.
Is that why one of the older guys (Scott Johnson) taught one of the younger guys (Brandon Olander) using a “metronome electronica?” Interesting how the older guys supposedly “graduated” from metronomes but still teach people to use them 🤔
Brandon looks so happy to be there
Wouldn’t you be? I would be stoked.
I think he was waiting to see if he could come up with the most challenging tap off. Hahaha :)
@@jalthealusdavis8762 no because it's all rehearsed before hand. Also the tap off is based off the variation of the exercise.
@@SupraaHero I know it was rehearsed. I was making a lighthearted joke. Some drummers like to show off. That's what we do. In this case, I don't think anybody was expecting visuals in the tap off which made for a cool and exciting ending.

ah yes, the dadline
+brandon
@@wizard9489 well yeah, of whom do you think they’re the dads? 😂
(there was no good way to word that question)
So cool! I like how the pitch of the drums gets higher and higher as the years go on. Here's to many more decades of dci! 🥁
Yeah I was wondering if maybe that was to tune each drum to the players prime?
@@connorm.8323 Probably? idk
Yeah, pretty soon they'll be inaudible to humans--only dogs will be able to hear them.

Is that what this is?
No these are just I&E snare champions from their respective decades
@@Aurelyis he said bd cause 3 of the 6 of them are/were bd players

Super cool to see Poole out there killing it!

took me too long to realize that the last part of their countoff is the part of the music that changes with each of them
No shit..
Epic......i miss old school sound and rudiments
This was amazing to get to see
That's some REAL drumming!
We not gone talk about them tap offs but its all love love seeing the different generations of talent
Brandon looks so happy
they're that clean with little to no rehearsal time
Wish I still had chops, awesome job all
Surprised Keelan Tobia wasn’t there. That’s a champion that would be awesome to see live
Keelan Tobia has no personality
I love that they are playing 60 seconds
This is amazing
Love the fit Brandon
So sad Roger wasn't in the lineup....he'd tap off with his left hand.
That’s why he’s not there

Yes

Swiss army triplets

And former DCI drum judge

Time signature anyone? It counted 5/4 but then I got lost at the longer parts so it’s probably mixed right?
Okay so I got two bars of 5/4, one bar of 10/4 (yes I know it can 2 bars of 5/4), two bars of 5/4 again and then one of 14/4 (or two bars of 7/4)
It’s 3/8 to 2/4 to 3/8 to 2/4 to 6/8 to 4/4 repeat but second time two measures of 4/4
