Looks like a great journey! I enjoyed an Inverness to Glasgow trip by air when there was significant rail disruption caused by floods - the route was via Stornoway and spent a lovely few hours walking around part of Stornoway between the two flights
Excellent again. I don't know exactly what it is about your vids, is it the photography, the commentary, or the information you give, but I now think you are one of the best on her for railway videos. Great work, and Pip Pip.
Good that you were able to sort out an alternative route. I'm guessing the arrival at New Street didn't connect with the Stansted/Cambridge service, although there have been weekend engineering works meaning they were only running to/from Coleshill. You might want to consider changing the font on your information screen to avoid being considered copying another channel
Unfortunately on the day we were travelling cross country was only running from coleshill parkway so we had to go via Coventry instead. I’ll make sure to change to e information screen next time, it was a template off canvas which I used and didn’t realise it was exactly the same don’t 😅
@@RorysTravels No problem, I seem to recall the works reducing the trains in and out on New Street at weekends (I travel from Nottingham). As regards the info screen it was just a thought to retain your individuality. All TH-camrs need that, some use a greeting, ending or set phrases as I'm sure you know. I do enjoy your videos in this country, keep them coming.
Interesting vid! Of course when things go wrong, its easy (ish!) for you to replan and rebook your journey, but what are visitors supposed to do, especially those from abroad? An interesting alternative, given that you got the plane to Glasgow and the WCML might have been to get off at Carlisle then take the Settle & Carlisle to Leeds, and thence LNER to Peterborough, though I guess that might not have been an option if there were no LNER services due to strikes. How things change - when I lived in Coventry, there were no trains from there to Nuneaton whatsoever, except at times of crisis when the WCML to Brum was closed and an emergency service was laid on to Nuneaton where you hoped to pick up a Birmingham or London bound service!
So far, the only plans I have down south is down to Southend and Hampshire but I'm hoping I'll get the chance to do some of the Thames Valley branches in December!
In October 2022, despite my best efforts to avoid the U.K. rail strike, on my arrival back on the ferry from Dublin, caused by a mix-up with transfer buses within Dublin City Centre, bad weather on the Irish Sea, no possibility of going onto another ship nor flying out of Dublin, involving my spending all day in Dublin Port with no food, I ended up being stranded in Holyhead for 2 days, unable to get back to Manchester and by the time I arrived in Holyhead, after the first day, I was both delirious with no sleep and was frantic, as I had work the following Monday, especially with no Wi-Fi and no mobile coverage in Holyhead - I’ve no sympathy whatsoever for striking train driver unions who are already massively overpaid and the government should be taking a far more draconian and zero tolerance approach towards train driver unions who go on strike
thanks rory visiting glasgow x my home and i love central
It’s an amazing station!

Great video as always!! What a long, interesting and exhausting journey. Hope all is well, take care

Thank you for such a kind comment! It keeps the channel going!!!
Another enjoyable video,I agree with you, Avanti west coast standard premium is worth paying the extra for. Keep well 😊😊😊
Another excellent video Rory. Wigan is my local main line station, I can often be seen there filming anything interesting.
Rory - you make such watchable videos. Don't know what it is but you captured the whole trip superbly. Keep them coming.......
Thank you so much!

so nice to see your journeys. The commentary is always good and informative. Are you considering coming south (Thames Valley area?)

So at what point in your epic journey from the Orkney Islands to Stamford did you visit Northern Ireland?
No visit to Northern Ireland, probably should have put Britain instead!
@@RorysTravels - England + Wales + Scotland = Great Britain. Great Britain + Northern Ireland + United Kingdom. For the moment, at least.
What was the difference in price for 1st class? Surely worth it to be fed on the journey as you had a long way round due to cancellations etc
1st Class was nearly double the price of standard premium which i think is absolutely ridiculous! Standard premium was just as good though.

That sounds like a nightmare of a journey!
Trains could be automated, but there is a concrete barrier called ASLEF. Grossly overpaid anarchic drivers.
