Your post made me think of something. I am a therapist and I belong to the Canadian Counseling psychotherapy association because it's amazing. I was at my very first CCPA conference in New Brunswick a few years ago and everybody knew I was American. When I sat down at the table, somebody from Alberta said, "now we're going to be sitting here with people from Newfoundland. Don't call them newfies, whatever you do. They are newfoundlanders!" 😊
I have just returned from a P&O cruise on Aurora just over a week ago and our stop in St.Johns staying overnight visited one of the pubs and what a lovely friendly people you are❤
@pinkmagiclala I'm taking a trip up to Quebec as well as Newfoundland.. Any points of interest you can direct me to in Newfoundland? I want to see some cliffs. The landscape looks incredible. Also I scrolled one of your playlists and seen some keeping up appearances vids.. that's one of my all time favorite shows. Good taste.
Funny enough for a lot of people that live that far in eastern Canada if they want to see a concert, the flights are cheaper to London or Dublin than they were to Toronto or Montreal. Not sure if that’s still the same.
I just paid $750 for a first, one way flight on the east coast of the US …. It’s a demand issue. If you catch a flight they’ve just put on a route you’ll get great prices until it starts to fill up.
Canada is a bit famous among developed countries for having poor internal trade between its own internal subdivisions. It's easier to trade with the US or UK / IE / coastal EU in many cases than with the other provinces.
Scottish TH-camr Steve Marsh recently did several videos of this flight and visits to the Gander airport museum (of 9/11 fame) and St. John's. He found the people there to be super friendly, giving lots of help and free rides.
Years ago when I was 18 I flew to North America for the first time from Prestwick to Halifax, but the plane stopped at Gander - and I think that would have been even shorter. I fell in love with long distance travel that day. Thanks again for your consistently interesting and amusing work.
My first ever flight (in March 1983, when I was 12 years old) was Gatwick to Newark via Gander, where we stopped to refuel the plane. I think it's fair to say that there's not a lot going on in Gander!
Flew Newark to Dublin last year… flight time was 4.5 hours! We arrived almost 2 hours early cause of the tail wind… fastest Europe flight I have ever been on.
Key distinction: It's "St John's", not Saint John's. There's another city in Eastern Canada, Saint John (where I'm from) in New Brunswick that's often confused with St. John's. The difference is the New Brunswick city spells out the "Saint" word and the Newfoundland city has the apostrophe and 's' at the end of "John." Unfortunately these two cities are often confused so some people think I'm from Newfoundland when I'm not and people from Newfoundland are sometimes mistaken to be from New Brunswick!
@@dehavillandcanadatwinotter9621 It's quite literally called ''Saint John's'' for me on google maps lol. Not saying you aren't right, but if you are right that means Dutch google is wrong.

I'm living in St. John's and taking this flight in a couple of days so it was great to see this video and know what to expect! This route was in operation for 2016 and 2017 but was cancelled for 2018. I think it's now back on a 3-year seasonal schedule. A bit controversial for some as it was put back on after taxpayer dollars were given to the airport to entice operators and new flights but I'm glad it's here and going to take advantage. Hope your next flight video is somewhere up to Labrador!
Geography nerd here. There are actually shorter transatlantic flights, e.g. the 4 h 40 minutes from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq on Greenland (which, as am I sure you know, is in North America). So I think you know what you need to do! 😃
Noticed a couple of Transat planes at Gatwick. We've flown Manchester to Canada (Toronto) on Transat a couple of times - it's a real no-frills experience with really tight legroom. You wouldn't want a much longer trip! Glad you got more legroom.
Trans-Atlantic flights are generally quicker heading the other way, flying east with the winds. We did Halifax to Dublin on ASL some years ago, and it was 4 hours and some minutes going east. But the Return leg, west into the wind, was 5 hours and some minutes. These flight durations are conveniently short and very easy flights. Incredible to skip the horrible backtrack to Toronto or Montreal, just incredible.
I love how the low-cost airlines find niche point to point routes and drive traffic. Rather that Canadians in that part of Canada always going to Toronto, Montreal and NYC they might as well fly to London.
I used my Priority Pass at Edinburgh this summer. No issues. It is a trip to me that Greenland is part of Europe. It is basically north of where you are in Canada.
Great video Noel, don't let the haters get you down. They're simply jealous of your success, they don't have to watch or subscribe if they don't like what you do, there's plenty of online options but every Sunday evening I'll watch your videos. There will soon be a NEW shortest trans Atlantic flight that you might want to try out. Next summer, WestJet is adding a new St. John's to Dublin route which probably will end up being about a 3.5 hour flight
Isn't Newfoundland just great. I was born there. A long time ago. I've also live in England and Hawaii twice. Lots of Islands. I'm in Texas now. It's mostly warm and sunny. I hope you had a nice flight. Thanks for sharing.
Cool video! I did a UK/Ireland vacation this past summer flying YHZ-LGW and DUB-YHZ on WestJet. A bit longer than this flight but still if you blink you’ll miss that you’ve crossed the pond. I think you give a lot of people the confidence they need to travel, and that's an amazing thing because this world is so big and beautiful it deserves to be seen! Also, as somebody else said, thank you for being so transparent about mental health. I am a counseling professor and I think it's so wonderful that you normalize mental health and empowering people to make sure their therapist is right for them.
For those who do not have little zipper bags from flying business class, because we fly coach, ziplock baggies work. They are cheap and clear and perfect for little bits and bobs - like Q-tips, nail clippers, cords for your electronics, etc.

WestJet used operate a B737-700 on the YYT - DUB route. That service was suspended because of 'Covid', and when it returned, it was rerouted as a B737-MAX service between YHZ and DUB. From recollection [ I did fly this route ], the YYT - DUB sector [ tailwind-assisted ] was under 4hrs in duration.

In 2008 i took a flight from Gatwick to Halifax, Nova Scotia. at that point the shortest transatlantic flight. with 'Canadian Affair' a low cost carrier using thomas cook and condor planes when required. the flight was 4hrs30m...and a lovely british couple in my row drove me in to central halifax to save me the hassle of taking the bus.
Shorter than Brisbane to Perth. A flight I used to do weekly which I'm glad I no longer do. I do miss the free Qantas frequent flyer points I got though
This is current shortest route. Westjet used to fly Dublin to St John’s which would’ve been 30-45 mins shorter. I think this might be equivalent in distance to the canaries from Dublin so most narrow bodies can fly it.
You should try to fly to Gander in Newfoundland. It's where the air traffic control for the western havl of the transatlantic route is located! Cool old school airport with 1950s vibes

Always nice to have you back in Canada
Last night i booked my holiday with Tui from Birmingham to Cancun! Im so so excited. Ill be flying on Tuis Boeing 787
Hey noel Phillips I'm coming to Houston texas today and I'm going to Seattle
As someone who lives in St.John’s I hope you had a great time here!!
Superdry definitely needs to sponsor your channel, Noel.
As always, super video 👊
Gander next? Hope you enjoyed Newfoundland and Labrador! 😃
Literally watching this 1 minute after release, great!
Same
Shorter than Brisbane to Perth.
This was awesome trip. Under 5 hours transatlantic flight from London. Incredible journey. Definitely can’t be beat. Much love Noel ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!

A few years ago I took WestJet from St.John's to Dublin. Was about 4 hours. It looks like they don't run that one anymore. Too bad.
Welcome to Canada. I prefer Air Canada, but West Jet is 2nd. Although Porter Airlines is picking up the competition!
