One way with rail card and pre booked being £51 is ridiculously high no wonder people fly between Manchester and london surprised passenger numbers are still going up

Before I started watching this video I thought you would of gone on xc to new street or GWR to Worcester and then wmr to new street I’m guessing you didn’t because of price or timings anyway, great video!👍

A good trip, I'm guessing the quicker ? route by XC to New Street would have been more expensive and who wants to sit on a 170 for that long? I've done it! Would have been interesting to have comments about the GWR seating, I'm guessing first class on an Azuma might be a bit better. Living in Manchester and having family in Ireland, I never use the trains, even to travel to airports, around Christmas and it’s the same with daytime and overnight coaches - even SailRail from Manchester via Chester and via ferry from Holyhead to Dublin has become very unreliable since Covid, due to last minute delays and cancellations, making planning trips home to Ireland from the U.K. virtually impossible

The Premier Service that Transport for Wales have introduced are very nice. And also have such luxury in those Mk4 carriages that were used on the East Coast Main Line before.

You're presumably aware that Transport for Wales Business Class travel tickets can be used to access the Great Western Railway-managed First Class Lounge/Lolfa Dosbarth Cyntaf at Cardiff Central Station, although given how poor the amenities were (compared to London Paddington) the last time I did so, it's a moot point as to whether or not it's worth making the effort, but it does keep the lounge staff on their toes. Travelling on business between Cardiff University and Bangor University in December 2018 my three-course Christmas Dinner was included in the ticket price, except for the bottle of very pleasant red wine, which had to be paid for, so I enjoyed Smoked Salmon and Prawns as the starter, followed by Turkey with all of the usual trimmings and Christmas Pudding/Pwyding Nadolig and Brandy Sauce/Saus Brandi to finish off. The Class 67 on the front, hauling a featherweight load of creaking but comfortable Mark 2's, made heavy weather of the relatively undemanding climb out of the Usk valley to Llanvihangel Summit, but we pulled into Bangor on time, over three hours later, and that's all which really matters.

Great video! I always made a habit where possible of getting the 17:16 Cardiff to Chester and upgrading to First Class for the complimentary Restaurant service several years ago before Covid hit. The food was insanely good and the Staff were really friendly. I'm not surprised they decided to start charging for it- it only cost me less than £20 for the upgrade (with railcard discount) and I got the ticket itself very cheap with my Staff Priv pass.

The Blackpool tramway was actually the first electric tramway in the world, the only electric railway beforehand being Brighton's Volks Electric Railway, which the Blackpool tram promoters dismissed as "little more than a toy!" Also, the previous tramway up Talbot Road actually closed in 1936, this being part of the Layton route. There were trams to North Station until 1963 but these reached there via Dickson Road from Gynn Square, part of the 1898 opened Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramroad.
