Today I watched about a 29 minute video of Jordan love highlights from this year and an equally long video of Brock Purdy from this year. I recommend anybody who loves the Niners to watch it. Jordan Love is good, but most of his passes were thrown to wide open players. You can even hear The color commentary and the play-by-play guy saying “wide open” numerous times. He had a great game against the lions and made some spectacular throws and also against the Chiefs. Then you watch the Brock Purdy highlights and it’s like wow those were spectacular throws over and over and over.

As a fellow person of faith in Christ, I believe the missing piece for those who may not understand, is Brock isn't depending on his own strength to "hold it together." There is absolutely a spiritual dimension to this. The Bible tells us that "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good." Not everything that happens is good, like blowing out your elbow, but there is faith that God will take whatever happens in your life, football or no football, and it will eventually work out for your good. That is what brings him peace.

In the past few years I have studied a bit about leadership. And every time I see the demeanor and attitude of Purdy, and it screams *leader* at me. It's remarkable to see a guy that just had his 24th birthday have such refined leadership skills. Imagine entering a room and leaving 40 or so minutes later leaving a SB champ QB questioning his own life perspective. Every Purdy story you hear is someone being deeply impressed by his character and behavior.
Good leadership results inevitably in success; it's impossible to be any good or accomplish anything of value with bad leadership. There's not a single doubt in my mind that Purdy will get multiple rings with the Niners, unless some unfortunate catastrophe happens. Purdy is not just a great player, he's a great man.

When you are a true believer and you have a goal and you work hard towards it you find that unexpected situation that is the perfect situation for you and what Brock is mentioning is that he believes god called him to do this and he wants to honor it by giving it his best until he is called elsewhere

Thank you for that additional perspective. I was thinking the same thing ... just because he doesn't live or die by being a QB in the NFL, it doesn't mean he doesn't put his all into it. In fact, I would argue it propels his drive to be great and to be the best he can be (giving it his all) because in his mind he's in this league for a limited amount of time so in order to make the most of it he's giving everything he can at being the best.

What those of us of Faith realize and my grandpa taught me this, is everything in this life that we do are not ends but means to an end. That includes the successes as well as the failures. With this mindset you realize you are not defined by your successes or failures, although the world tries to define you by these things, but you are defined by how your faith is shown through those failures and successes. Failures are an opportunity to showcase the successes that God blesses each of us with. Knowing that takes the fear away, the stress away and frees us to be who we were meant to be. A young man at 24 that can, learn this, live this and share this with no regrets makes him ELITE as a human and that's what really counts. GO NINERS!!!

#THESFNINERS please watch Howie Long on First Things First talk about why Purdy is beloe the 2 young qbs left in the playoffs....he literally said he hasn't seen Brock do it, although he believes he could but bc those 2(Love/Stroud) put up 272 and a couple of tds in their 1st game they're ahead of Purdy. Haaa I was completely befuddled. Purdy just last year(as a rookie) had 332 passing yds with 3 tds and 16 rush yards with another td AND 0 TURNOVERS. All against a division team that had already played Brock. This is why I can't stand listening to these network guys. They just be talkin. It's ridiculous.

I think Purdy and Love are in two different positions. Love is surrounded by young players. He’s really starting out as the leader of the team. Purdy came in as a rookie and is surrounded by probable hall of fame players. There is much more pressure on Purdy. Yet, with his faith, attitude, and maturity, he is handling the pressure. A lot of other guys would cave. Purdy is also still developing.

Steve Young misinterpreted BP message, imo.
Here is my take on it..
BP will play football UNTIL his ability cannot play anymore, then, he'll leave.
BP will not stay in the league as a backup, journeyman, and just hanging onto football til he's 100 years old.
    In other words,
    When the time is up?
He'll hangup and leave the game the right way.
He doesn't need NFL to define him.
    He's grounded in life.
BP is truly an ordinary man, with extraordinary message to all out there.
Only clowns chasing fames, wanting riches, sleeping 24/7 dreaming of football, mainstream sports medias needing football paying them salary hates BP.
These are the clout chasers, greed, bling bling, thugs, hate BP because he's NOT like THEM.
    He's him.
And, that's why delusional fanatics hate BP.
They have flaws in their own lives and so they take it out on a white qb who's excelling in life.

felt pretty confident with Jimmy garoppolo..... never with Kyle Shanahan his play-calling and not drafting a great o-line for protection!!! history repeats itself hopefully it does not with Brock Purdy but so far..... he was already injured last season...... also I will never blame Jimmy G for not winning the 2019 Super Bowl that was all Kyle Shanahan his play calling and shooting the 49ers in the foot like he does every season in the biggest games

I’m always struck with how wrong headed they are at ESPN to let Steve Young get away. I think ultimately ESPN will go the way of Sports Illustrated because it stops being about sport and starts being about promoting the social and political views prevailing in the editorial staff. Mission creep

Purdy shucked corn and I don't care lol.
Purdy attitude about playing football is how I fan football.
Not emotionally invested on a level where my life revolves around it
Beyond natural laws and Creator endowed rights, My life permeates my surroundings and interacts with my environment not the other way around.
That how They the Creator designed it.
Because this realm is not what they told you and it's nuanced energetic actions and reactions are beyond even the little we do know of it, and even further when you deny the reality of it.

Steve Young as the niners quarterback had the same religious believe. After all Steve Young played his college game at BYU
Also Young did stop playing because he had to many hit to the head.

What Steve Young said about Brock's faith was extra remarkable considering who he is a direct decendent of.
Great take on this Brad. The kid is really a throwback to a different era. This may be exactly what humanity needs at this time. An example.

I don't fully believe Brock when he intimates, & flat out says, that he doesn't really really really really really care, to his core, about how successful he is as a QB on this team. Yes he does, he cares immensely. He's pissed that the national media will cost him his rightful MVP award because they're dismissing his historically great advanced stats, including being the best deep-ball passer in NFL history this season...the precise thing they all said he couldn't do well at all. Brock is not great because of this offense, this offense is great because Brock is so great. I do believe his faith allows him to play calmly, & to brush off bad games, but no, I do not believe him when he says that he's just doing what God wants him to do. No...he desperately wants/needs to be great, & now that he's had a taste of it, he wants to prove to everyone that he is hyper-elite, not just pretty good....he wants, incredibly badly, to figuratively shove all of the doubters/haters faces into a piping hot, fresh out of the oven, humble pie as he's holding his Super Bowl MVP....that is what Brock wants.
