Pear shapes do not necessarily have longer torso and shorter legs. There are just as many pears who have shorter torsos and longer legs for their height (myself included, at 5'1"). Pear shape just means hips are wider than shoulders/top half. It is a completely independent variable from being short- or long-torsoed. If you're a petite pear with a short torso and relatively longer legs, many of these fashion tips can be flipped around. For instance, skinny jeans are MUCH better than wide-leg jeans (agree with dark wash is best, mind you), because having both longer legs and wider hips mean that most of your visual real estate is already on your bottom half, so you really don't want to be calling more attention by adding volume to the lower half. Also, longer tops that cover the hips and thighs are usually very unflattering on us, because they just make the whole body look as wide as the widest part. Instead, a top with a gently defined waist that skims the waist and hits just at the top of the hips is going to be much more flattering on us short-torsoed petite pears. A-line skirts are great but midi length is bad on us, go for knee-length or above the knee. Finally, horizontal necklines and off-shoulder tops should REALLY be avoided by us short-torsoed petite pears, because they create a horizontal cutoff on our already short torso, making our top half look even shorter. Instead, a v-neck, scoop neck, or any top with some detailing at the shoulder (ties, small puffed sleeves) will make the shoulders look wider and torso look taller, balancing us out. Jules Beth has a good video on her channel about this. Hope this helps anyone reading this who is struggling to adopt these tips because they have a short torso.
@Petite Poire I totally agree with you. I, too, am a petite pear with a short torso and longer legs, and everything you said is right. Right now I'm having trouble finding a plain black dress that isn't above the knee or mid calf. As a curvy pear, I can't wear sheaths or straight styles and as a petite, I need a petite size or the waist is too low. I want a cotton knit for summer if possible, too, but that seems to be asking for the moon on top of everything else.
@@edennis8578 yeah dresses are tricky if the proportion isn't quite right. Check Calvin Klein Petite -- they have them at Macy's and I find their dresses are a perfect fit on my 5'1" frame. Lots of a-line styles, too, since I also avoid clingy sheath dresses for the same reason as you.
Yup me too. I’m a pear- wider hips and narrow shoulders But I have very short torso and long legs. So despite being 5”2, regular pants fit me! 🤷🏽♀️ I have a very narrow waist- hence I mostly wear knee length fit and flare dresses or A line knee length skirts.
I love that you keep reminding us and reiterate that these tips are for IF you want to downplay your bottom curves and to do the opposite if you want to draw attention to it.
A pear shaped woman can wear anything and look better than any other shape. That's why most black women clothes look better on them than any other race as a whole.
@@zarrowthehorse, I hope you'll not saying you wish you weren't pear shaped, because pear shaped is the most attractive shape. Now if you don't like the attention that a pear shape draws then I understand why you might not like it.
It is harder! I'm a bottom-heavy hourglass who used to think I was a pear (but my shoulders are even with my hips, which makes me an hourglass). I can only wear Curvy Fit jeans and pants, which don't pull at my hips and thighs and fit my waist without gapping. Only a few manufacturers make Curvy Fit bottoms and there are never as many styles as the 'regular' cuts.
@28gire Agreed. I'm a pear shape with long legs and a short torso. I guess I could be the exception, but I haven't heard that pear shaped women have particularly short legs.
High rise if you have a long torso because it will balance and/or elongate your legs, typically to even out a pear shape, pants with a bootcut or flare are the best option.
I thought i was an hourglass shape but this video described precisely that i actually a skinny pear shaped girl. Long torso, small waist 🙌🏻 I now understand why I don’t feel good in certain of my outfits. This is an informative video and the references are much helpful 👍🏻
I almost always choose to emphasize. My jeans are skinny, my shorts are short, my dresses are bodycon and my shoes have ankle straps (so I don't roll my ankles, lol). However, you are always spot on with proportions and how to do more conservative silhouettes without looking frumpy.
These tips are so accurate. At the same time I had to cry because I dont want to limit myself and have to hide but at the same time im so insecure about it. Also you just cant wear anything thats in trend rn.
You get right to the heart of what to avoid and embrace. This 🍐shaped girl appreciates your mentioning the rule of thirds. That helps reinforce the concepts of visual perception.
I'm laughing, 😂 great video! I'm a flat chested pear with a long torso and saddlebags!! And I wear petite sizes at 5'5"! I have to alter alot of clothes. You hit all the points perfectly 👍. What works? Fit and flare dresses and coats, short cropped fitted jackets, waisted shorts ala 1950's with side zipper, super high rise , darkish, pants and skirts, and yes, wide necklines! The only thing I would add is shoulder pads, they really help! I can't thank you enough!!!!! 😘
I never knew that they are called saddle bags, but I am not a fan of mines either. At least I can embrace them where I live now, because some guys like them. In my home land guys stear clear from them, so it is better to hide them at any cost.
Thanks for the tips -- most are spot on for me! I am that small boned, slim curvy pear shape mentioned -- rarely wear petite length as I'm 5 '4; however, I CAN wear the bias cut items -- when they are not skin tight cut, they must have room to move for example size up one size and it actually looks fantastic on my body for decades. I watch and enjoy your videos because although I'm not actually petite/rarely wear petite size, I am small boned so all the proportion tips are perfect!
I know how you feel. When I was in my teens and twenties, I used to be ashamed of having heavier thighs and hips; as I got older, I realized my shape was an asset! My husband loves that my hips, thighs, and booty are bigger. I now dress to accentuate, rather than hide, my curves. And yes, JLo looks amazing!
I am the same way, but the curvy pear is similar to the girl with a large chest in that it is really easy to be judged as unprofessional or “improper” if you wear tight things on the bottom mostly in professional or formal settings. This is a great guide for a pear shaped person to find the right styles of work clothes. Plus there is nothing wrong with trying to look more balanced in the figure to bring more emphasis and eyes to your face!
@@zarrowthehorseYou can accentuate your shoulders making them bigger with exercises to balance with the hips. It works. Look closely to JLo & Beyoncé. They use this trick. You have a beautiful and feminine body. Remember it.
I'm a pear with short torso and longer legs. I almost always wear high waisted pants with crop tops/tops tucked in. Took me a long time to embrace my body shape instead of hiding it.
The length of the skirt is tricky. I can't wear a skirt longer than knee length because I have large calves and ankles. Best spot is right above the knee, the narrowest part of my thigh. This will vary for every woman.
Thank you for making a tips video on how to not wanting to draw attention to your thighs/curves, but to use your waist and what not. I’ve found this to be the case with myself thanks a lot! :)
These videos are so clear, you explain very well (i'm french and i understand everything you say) I learn a lot with your channel thank you very much 😊😊😊
So I am a pear and I have quite long legs (that is what everyone tells me) And in the past I was insecure about my thighs and stuff but it got kinda popular to have big thighs so I kinda like them now :>
I’m pear-shaped, with wide hip bones, even when I weighed less than 100 pounds. But, I’m short-waisted. My ribs sit almost at my waist. Finding clothes that look good is tough.
About bias cut: we pears look great in bias dresses IF the fabric has a busy pattern! The slinkiness flatters our curves and the patterns camouflage any bumps.
Im just in love with you channel! So fun and useful stuff. I'm a curvy pear, sometimes I wanna highlight it and sometimes just go for a more balanced look
Absolutely spot on, thank you! Due to a medical condition, my thighs are extremely large and somehow my hips also became wider in recent years, although my upper body is skinny, athletic (sometimes one can even count my ribs or see every tiny muscle of my arms, shoulders, neck and upper chest. Tiny boobs, too :( ) And my legs are so unproportionally huge that I can't even put on any kind of trousers. My favorite is A-line skirts and dresses, this cut is godsent! Occasionally (mainly on stage) I can have a long, tight dress which flares out a little bit down from the hip. I don't know how is that called, like a bell shape.
Great tips! And you can also workout to slim/tone your hips, butt & thighs and widen your upper body by developing your arms, shoulders and back muscles with weightlifting to help balance everything out. It takes consistent hard work, eating healthy and dedication. To me it's worth it, it made me look like I have more of an hourglass shape than pear. And she's right about getting ab muscles, I got a 6 pack but I've been a total gym addict for many years.
I am pear-shaped and just about finished with my first ever bodycon dress, constructed and sewn out of a whimsy. Now I know that I should add not long sleeves, but an off-shoulder decor... a revelation! Btw, the inventor of the bias cut was Madeleine Vionnet in 1930s France, she made draped dresses popular in western fashion. After the boyish, youthful body type popular in the 1920s and the following straight chemise dresses, women were finally allowed to have a waist again, and the wider hips fashion followed - after the shortages of WW II - in the 1950s with Diors New Look. Fashion history is a fun quarantine entertainment indeed. :)
This video is amazing! I love every video you create, but this was the best of the best. Mostly because I'm a curvy pear and I'm trying to learn how to dress my body. Thank you!
I'm a curvy pear shaped woman with a short torso. Even though long shirts look awful on my shape, it's still the most comfortable for me, but I look like a tent 😆
Your tips are right on! I would have put a white tee with a ballet neck and cap sleeves with the black jeans to give a more horizontal line to balance the hips. Good video.
When I saw this, I thought of several videos I've seen recently aimed at older women on how to style white jeans. "Yes, let's make our butts look like the Goodyear blimp!" lmao
I'm a curvy pear. I love my shape when I wear those flowy dresses and skirts with high waist line. Jeans are a horror. But yes, 5ft height is not gonna make you graceful in winters and springs 😑 also, to curvy pears, say bye bye to jeans for good. Embrace the lady look 😅 midi, Maxis, midi skirts, long skirts, eyyyyyy it's a party out there of old school charm 😍 For Indian pears just like me, tone yourself a bit and boy you'll Rock a saree. My best pic is in a saaree😋
A lot of good tips here. I personally disagree with the bias cut. I absolutely love the way the bias cut looks on my pear shape. Then again, the dress I tried on was was a high boat neck with quarter sleeves so that probably balanced me out a lot.
I disagree with so much. As a curvy 🍐 . Wide leg pants look terrible, and skirts also make the entire leg look wide and solid without tapering or getting skinny anywhere. I look like a circus tent when I wear long A-line skirts like that. my booty makes the skirt stick far out from my body. If you got real models with these shapes-and dressed them, you’d see! And… I look damn good & slim in a tight dress! And bias cut is gorgeous. Omg 🤦♀️ what is going on here?
I love watching your videos! you have gotten more comfortable in front of the camera. i want to thank you for your petite videos I've learned a lot! 🌹are you making a video for hour glass figure?
I wish I had this back in high school I’m a pear turning apple after having 3 kids 😂 being long bodied I’ve also caught on to a mini dress (one that normally would go to the thigh but barely covers my butt because of my longer body) makes a nice shirt that flares around my hips nicely for when I do wear a little bit tighter Jean or those dreaded yoga pants that are so comfortable but don’t want my hips and legs to look really awkward. So glad I found your channel 💕
I know that feeling.. I have had a small chest/ rib cage/ back for years, you could see all my ribs right through my chest! The mammogram tech, couldn't get me in the machine! Yikes!😂
Oh my goodness, I'm glad I have the proportions of a pear, it's just so sexy and the most attractive body type ❤️ WHY DO EVERYONE THINK WE SHOULD COVER OUR HIPS AND MAKE OUR SHOULDERS LOOK WIDER? That's the best thing about being a pear shape: small shoulders and waist, big hips! Everyone wants to be pear shaped, so point out your sexiness with clothes if you are this body type! 😉
I agree with you (only 90%), most of advices really work. But wide-cut jeans for pears... the bottom looks heavier & your height looks shorter. I'm a curvy pear with medium height, my legs look kinda...elephant's in wide jeans. Mabe bananas would look better, you can accent your ankle and make it look slimmer, especially with light-coloured shoes. Or a bootcut with high-waist paired with heels. At least that's what works better for me.
The "draw attention to your face instead of your hips" comment made me laugh, because I'm now at an age, where I'd rather have people look at my hips than my face haha. But yeah, for younger women, this can be a great tip!
As someone who has a slim pear shaped figure and 5'3” some of these tips do not pertain to me. First off, my legs are in perfect balance with my torso. I can never buy petite pants because they are just too short for me, often ending at my ankles. Slim pants look infinitely better on me because there is much less material to bulk up my lower half (material thickness is very important in creating balance, but you didn't mention this). Because I am not overweight, white pants look very becoming on me. Flared skirts only work if they are not too flared. You showed a green dress with a lot of flare which swamped you. Too much material creates more volume, only creating more of a pear shape!!! A slight a-line is the best option. You showed pleated skirts. Pleated skirts that start the pleats at the waistline add bulk to everyone. The best pleated skirts have flat material around the stomach area and pleats that begin on the lower part of the hips. For pear shapes I say avoid all wide legged pants, otherwise you look ridiculously out of proportion. Boot leg or straight pants are the widest I would ever recommend. And always consider the thickness of the material. Heavy materials like winter wool and thick denim automatically add more width. These materials work better above the waistline. Short skirts may or may not work on a person (regardless of shape type). As a slim pear shaped person I have nice legs with normal thighs so short skirts suit me-naturally, I'm not talking about micro minis.
Curvy Pear here . My torso is a little shorter , it’s minor . I don’t follow guidelines for long torso , wouldn’t work for Me . I break some styling rules for pear shaped . I do wear pencil shape . I like being more Beyoncé at times . I focus on neckline . Not having slim legs , don’t like midis . It all depends on my weight .
I have a question for my fellow pear shaped ladies out there: it is normal for us to have full thighs even if we are slim? I remember, at the age of 16 I was literally bullied by my mother for having such fleshy upper legs which made me feel so insecure about my figure that it came to the point of me starving myself later. Now my weight is healthy and I would like to gain a little bit more, yet I know that most likely my thighs will become full again although I won't be overweight or will I? Are big thighs a sigh of being overweight?
Unfortunately it is a body feature pear shapes are stuck with. So a combination of diet and exercise is needed to keep them toned up and looking less flabby.
My mother did the exact same thing and I began starving myself. When I got too skinny I was told I was ugly and boney! Mothers be careful about how you talk to your daughters. 😞

I'm a pear with a short waist, and long legs.
The smartest woman. Thank you!!
You're very welcome! ❤️
When I saw this, I thought of several videos I've seen recently aimed at older women on how to style white jeans. "Yes, let's make our butts look like the Goodyear blimp!" lmao
That's funny!
I'm a curvy pear. I love my shape when I wear those flowy dresses and skirts with high waist line. Jeans are a horror. But yes, 5ft height is not gonna make you graceful in winters and springs 😑 also, to curvy pears, say bye bye to jeans for good. Embrace the lady look 😅 midi, Maxis, midi skirts, long skirts, eyyyyyy it's a party out there of old school charm 😍
For Indian pears just like me, tone yourself a bit and boy you'll Rock a saree. My best pic is in a saaree😋
Love that!
A lot of good tips here. I personally disagree with the bias cut. I absolutely love the way the bias cut looks on my pear shape. Then again, the dress I tried on was was a high boat neck with quarter sleeves so that probably balanced me out a lot.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow why are you so on point?!
I’ve learned so much from your videos! Yes, I’m a pear and proud of it! Thanks for the valuable hints!
@@leliavoinea9402 Is this what people call "humble bragging"? 🤔
WEAR WHATEVER U WANT
Imma pear but I'm also a skinny jeans addict. Wide leg pants of all kinds are a no. Would love to see a video on best dresses for pear shaped
Love the body shape series!💕💕
So glad you think so!
Yeeeeessss!!! Thank you!!! More, More, More of anything on this topic!!! :)

So glad to hear!

Thank you! Yes I will!
Love your videos. Very informative, as always. Thank you xx
So glad!
Thanks for sharing! Glad you like my videos!
Your best video yet. Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you so much! I learned lots of new things here :)
I'm so glad to hear that! ❤️
If I get to the stage of looking a good size on my butt and legs my top half looks like a famine victim. :-(
I know that feeling.. I have had a small chest/ rib cage/ back for years, you could see all my ribs right through my chest! The mammogram tech, couldn't get me in the machine! Yikes!😂
Embrace that and play up your tiny waist! Guys like plump butt and legs.
@@labornurse it's not about what guys like smh
@@labornurse nobody cares what guys like 🙂
@@labornurse who gives a f about guys smh
Oh my goodness, I'm glad I have the proportions of a pear, it's just so sexy and the most attractive body type ❤️ WHY DO EVERYONE THINK WE SHOULD COVER OUR HIPS AND MAKE OUR SHOULDERS LOOK WIDER? That's the best thing about being a pear shape: small shoulders and waist, big hips! Everyone wants to be pear shaped, so point out your sexiness with clothes if you are this body type! 😉
As a pear I have never found a pencil skirt that fits
I use the Rule of 3rds thirds in my Art to achieve greater pleasing compositions .✌💯🙏🥳 cool stuff.
aha💡so that is where my torso is! 🤣 thanks for this video..already commenting in the first 1 minute and a half😊
Thanks for sharing!!
I have longer legs and shorter torsal, and broad shoulders; I never wear skinny jeans, and never wear pencil skirt. I love aline, great tips.
coming from someone who has an hourglass shape, i love pear shapes, i feel like they have such beautiful bodies!
same,
It’s almost the same thing as hourglass. Just without the big breasts
The "draw attention to your face instead of your hips" comment made me laugh, because I'm now at an age, where I'd rather have people look at my hips than my face haha. But yeah, for younger women, this can be a great tip!
It is sad that you thinl this way about yourself
Love all your tips! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Best video ever thank u so much 👏
Glad you liked it!
You sweet thing, modeling clothes for pear shapes with your tiny cuteness!
Thank you, Melody!
I always thought I was hourglass but this video proved I am a freaking curvy pear
Thank you! I’ve been waiting for this!💋
Hope you like it!
Great tips 😍😍😍
I always learn so much from you. Thanks.
It's normal. That was cruel of her to criticize you
If the current styles don’t fit your body shape, just wait. Your style will come into fashion, and you can buy to your hearts content.
Come on girls why would you want to hide such a sexy shape ! love your video though ! great advice
You look good in everything! So cute
Thank you so much
