    I can't explain why, but I feel like I'm getting a private lesson from a fashion consultant. Maybe it's the absence of cutesy vibes and overly cheesy positive music. I only just noticed that you don't even use music! I didn't even notice, like when other people don't have music and you can just hear the static and awkward silence. (Btw, you don't need cutesy vibes. You have just the right touch of humor. You're cute just as you are and your frank comments mixed with encouragements are so helpful.)

      You know what, until I read your comment I had never noticed that Justine's videos have no music. That must be one of the reasons why I find them so pleasant to watch, along with her intelligent and sensible advice! I wish more youtubers did the same thing, constant background noise is really annoying and makes it harder to focus. Less is definitely more!

    I think skinny pants can look incredibly feminine and nice on a woman with a pear shaped body. Don't be afraid to show your butt and hips! I'm a pear shape and the majority of the pants I own are slim/skinny fit. I adore my hips and have no trouble showing them off. I'd actually prefer to :)
    You don't have to look like an hourglass shape if you don't want to. If you wanna look like a pear, look like a pear. If you love your hips and your small bust line like I do, wear what you feel looks good on you! She said these are ~just tips~ if you don't like certain parts of your body. If you like all of it and are fine showing all of it, do that. As long as you believe you are beautiful others will get over it

      I wear skinny pants too and i think it's more flatering than flare pants. I hate flare pants and the fact that all the advices i get involves flare pants. I think they are the uglyest :'(

    • @emrambles7949

      So much this. I'm definitely a pear too (my hips are not even that wide but I have the tiniest rib cage and a small bust), yet skinny jeans are the only thing I wear. I mean can you even buy flare pants these days?! That said, i guess I am lucky because my legs are quite long.
      I do implement a lot of her tips for the tops though (horizontal stripes FTW!). The tip with the bold accessories is a good one. I do not wear enough of them.

      I take the middle ground and try to find "boot cut" pants, since I really dislike flares but skinnies make me look fatter than I really am.

    • @StarCatcher-lw3on

      I can't wear anything tight on my bottom. It rides up and makes me feel like my bum and thighs are being squished and there's a giant gap on my waist. As far as flares, that's what I usually wear in pants or joggers. You may try boot cut jeans because they're sort of in the middle, but if you're like me, you hate denim lol

    I LOVE a good wrap dress for my pear shape. They typically tie right at the waist and the dramatic v neck really brings attention up, they can be more casual with flats and a cardigan or dressed up. Plus if you invest in a nice fabric you can often wash them!

      I'm pear shaped too. Whenever I wear a wrap dress, it comes off as a. bit too sexy. I have trouble looking for a line dresses with bodice because my torso is longer than most. Also, where I live, 5'8" is considered tall. I have trouble finding pants that fit the waist+hips and are long enough to cover my ankles.

      @@fuchsiagirl001 Sounds like you have the same issues as me ...wrap dresses too low/gaping on top, waist lines too high and legs too short...and most of my pants gap a lot at the waist. I still tend to wear a lot of wrap dresses though ... a simple tack at the neckline where I'd like it to stop gapping and it's usually good to go - takes about 30 seconds. For the wrap dresses that I wear more I've added a single hook ad loop or snap closure so I don't have to bother with tacking each time. Works pretty well for me.

    Pear-shape here. Skinny/narrow pants can be made wearable on our shape if you follow some guidelines: wear a clunky, tall boot and go for a monochrome top and bottom, if you are not wearing boots but instead shoes or sandals, go with a chunkier shoe, and wear your pants either ankle or cropped. Try a larger, floaty longer blouse with any of these looks -- it is totally okay to give up your waist as a pear because a larger blouse over skinny pants can give balance to a pear shape.

    • @dudanunesbleff
      @dudanunesbleff 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      christialle, I'm on to skinny pants with larger tops for my pear shape, too. I find it balances my hips better than flare jeans and shorter tops. Wide leg trousers are the exception, they are quite flattering.

      Wow, this thread really shows the variety of even triangle/pear-shaped ladies. Perhaps it relates to the ratio, as well. Here, Justine appears to have a 12-inch difference between her hips and her waist. I have a 21-inch difference!! :)
      I exclusively wear tight or fitted tops, because anything even remotely flow-y rests on my hips and creates a tent, which makes it look like my whole body is as wide as my hips/thighs. Not a good look on me.
      Regarding skinny pants for pears, I think they look good when they are darker and paired with a top that creates a line across the shoulders and bust, as @Justine said in her video. (Or when paired with a statement necklace or a scarf.)

    As a fellow pear, I find that a classic button-up shirt works wonders, as it creates a lot of visual interest around the neck and shoulders. As a very structured piece, it also gives the impression of a voluminous upper bust. Paired with high-rise jeans/trousers, it looks really put-together.

    I sometimes wish i could yell in front of the world that BEING SKINNY DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T BE PEARSHAPED!!! Every time i say "i'm pear shaped" people go like "OMG you're not even fat! where's the pear there??" as if I insulted their ancestors or something. It's called SHAPE not weight. God! And i'm in terrible shape, i am like 80 for breast (extremely small breast) and more than 100 for the butt... I'm so unsatisfied with that, especially since I wear one size bigger on the bottom as opposed to the top. :(

      Pear shape is not about breast size
      its about bone structure of the torso (the rip cage is tiny and pretty short or almost cropped) like a actress lena dunham , kate winslet,
      And you should be thankful if you have small breast cause iam pearshaped wirh big breast and its worst cause my torso is too small and short for my big breast and any small weight i gain it goes directly to my breast and thighs which makes me even more weird shape

    The best tip I've found for a pear shape is to grow your shoulders and flaunt the hell out of your hips and butt. You can grow your shoulders by doing lateral exercise and lots of shoulder presses. This will create an amazing figure- tone your arms and create an hourglass silhouette. This works!!

    i love to dress in skinny jeans and a causal t-shirt as a pear. Because I love my pear-shaped body, and not hiding my shape. It's the element of surprise. "Oops! You were'nt expecting that but, were you ;)." Also, a nice t shirt that has a good fabric can accentuate the small waist of the pear and flatter your curvy hips, thighs, etc, especially if the t- shirt is cut at the bottom of the hip bones. Pear is lovely. And high waisted jeans are even better. Essentially you are showing the world that curvy on the bottom is really sensual and beautiful. And of course being smaller on top leaves so much room for simple creativity and modest sensuality.

    I'm a pear shaped person and I actually love slim leg pants. I think the key here (not only for a better look but also for comfort) is to make sure they're high waisted, and that they fit in all the right places. That can be incredibly hard with a slim leg jean so you may spend ages looking for the right pair. I honestly think my slim leg jeans are much more flattering on me than my ones that are wider at the bottom. I contrast it with a top that is looser around the belly area but flatters my small bust and waist. This way I can show off my curves but still achieve a balanced look.

    I am pear shaped too, but I love it! I love fragile look of narrow shoulders and feminine look of wider hips. I do look the most elegant in straight cut pants, but I also love to wear high waist black skinny jeans. The only thing I absolutely avoid is hiding a waist (for example with baggy tops), somehow that makes me look huge. Otherwise I think we are pretty lucky with our body shape! :)

    I’m a pear shape and I can TOTALLY agree to the waist part. I always thought I was an apple shape or a rectangle but after measuring it turns out I’m a pear. After I started accentuating my waist I have a way more feminine and less “wide” silhouette.
    I’m going to the octoberfest in Germany soon and I’ll wear a dirndl which is really tight at the waist and flares out over the hip bones (which are quite prominent for me) so it’s flattering one my body type;)

    Thanks for the tips. I've been following them for ages and they do make your body looks more balanced.
    Some women (like me) are uncomfortable with highlighting their wide hips, no matter how attractive other people say they are (the hips) or how they accentuate our feminine shape. That's not our goal. We just want to appear slimmer, taller, and more balanced. We want to be aesthetically pleasing all over, not just one part of our body.

    I think another way to help accentuate the waistline is to go high-waisted. I'm a pear shape and absolutely love wearing high-waisted skinny jeans, capris, work pants, leggings, dress pants, shorts, skirts and anything else you can think of. Not only does it show how small your waistline really is, but it also gives your body a more prominent curve, and all of your feminine features are on display. Still, a very helpful video overall.

    • @shannonoverstreet3028
      @shannonoverstreet3028 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I'm 5'1" - 5'2" and I have the same issue. I completely avoid bell-shaped or flared bottoms because they just look odd on my height, so you're not alone. If I feel like following these tips and extending my leg line, I wear well fitted slim/skinny pants that fit my silhouette perfectly and are tailored or fit at the perfect spot on my ankle. Then I wear those with a pointed toe shoe. It doesn't ~have~ to be a heel, because I don't really like heels, but I find a pointed oxford shoe, pointed flats, or a pointed toe bootie work just the same even though they don't add actual height. I find that the place your top end is essential with a short height, so you don't want it to stop just at your hips because it can make you look shorter or sort of cut off at the middle. I follow the tip she gives here, in that my tops always stop just above my hips, or a bit below.
      Hope this helps! Short girls unite!

    I use:
    Pads for shoulders, puff sleeves, shoulder straps or lighter color block in shoulder line.
    Belts.
    A-line skirts but not too wide, best if end at knee line
    Tight-Stretchy fabric for pants: they tight butt and compensate difference between waits and hips different sizes. But straight legs fit (wide-ish at knee line).

    I have really wide hips and a big butt and I NEVER try to "balance it out". Its a personal preference. Im a big woman and if I wear tops that bring too much attention to my upper area I look heavier in a way. I absolutely love to wear clothes that make my hips look wide and my upper half small and delicate. I do play with making my body look longer by wearing tops with the bottom hem falling just in the area my hips are wider.

      @@lolcatmint That's exactly my body type!! I think we don't need to focus on dressing to draw attention to the top. Yet, we should make our legs look longer with high heels and balance out the width of the hips with flare out pants, or hide our thighs with A-line skirts and dresses like she said. That's what I have taken out of this video for my body type.

    I am also a pear shaped body, I would add 1950's style dresses with full or half circle skirts at the bottom. In Summer I mainly wear a close fitting t-shirt or blouse with a full or half circle skirt, it accentuates my waist and covers my hips. My other tip is a pair of jersey/stretch cotton bike shorts [long boxers] under the skirt stop your thighs rubbing together and get rid of the need for stockings!

    I consider myself a pear shaped person; my hips are definitely wider than my bust, with the waist being the smallest part, but my shoulders are a bit wider. A-line dress? Great! But shoulder pads just make me look absolutely weird, like my head is too small for my body. In general: if I put a lot of focus on the shoulders, they just look too wide for my head. It's weird. Am I really a pear?

      Try using less bulky accessories - so still wear a scarf, but one with less fabric that doesn't poof up so much. Hairstyles completely change things for me, too. You may also just be an hourglass though and wearing the big accessories is adding weight to an already balanced body.

    Hi, Justine. Thank you for these very interesting videos. I have a question: I measured myself - 87/68/95 and therefore went to the 'pear' video, BUT - I have wide shoulders that make my upper body appear a lot wider (about 98cm around the tops of the shoulders.) I don't have your petite look to the upper body that is so classically pear shaped. I don't really fit into the hourglass either since I have a small-medium bust (32C/70C) Any advice? Thanks in advance!

    • @carolannf
      @carolannf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Does an hourglass have to have big boobs? I thought it was more: wide shoulders, nipped in waist and then hips roughly same size as shoulders? Maybe dress for a pear and then for hourglass and see which looks best on you and that's your answer. The Trinny and Susannah books on dressing for body shape are excellent (you can also find the content online).

    • @StarCatcher-lw3on
      @StarCatcher-lw3on 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carol - I think it has to be a really dramatic difference. So if you wore a large top and a large bottom, you would be an hourglass, but if you wore a small top and a large bottom, you would be a pear. If you wore a large top and a small bottom, you would be an apple, but if you wore only one difference in size between your top and bottom, you would still be an hourglass because it isn't very dramatic.

    Winter and fall are my favourite seasons because i can wear an oversized knit sweater (my favourite is an off the shoulder one) and a big scarf over skinny jeans and it creates that perfect "top heavy" look while still showing my very shapely legs
    Another style i go for is short shorts and a big sweater or super flowy loose shirt half tucked in on one side to hint at the waist. It's a great way to color combo with some tights.
    Really i just enjoy creating the illusion of a cloud perched on thin legs. Like a candied apple.

    This made me really upset. I'm a pear (although a lot of people say I'm an hourglass - I'm not, my hips are wide) and I hate my body shape... everything that is "my style" doesn't suit me. And I hate flares/bell bottom jeans. It's so not my aesthetics... tried to make myself really skinny but my hips are still wide. Literally worst body shape ever.

      no!!!! it is a very feminine body type you should not hate it! Fashion is sick when they promote these women that have no curves. I have no idea how old you are but I am mid 40s and have lived many years believing I was wrong but fashion (and designers) is. Start analysing who the designers are and you have the answer

      Unicorn Princess all about where you're from. I'm from Latin America, and baby, hips don't lie.

      Unicorn Princess if you think this is the worst body type ever why do you think celebrities like the kardashians get surgery to have big butts and hips you can always try to find a balance with your upper and lower body

      Hey...try boot cut jeans. I live in my Levi's boot cut jeans and I have wide hips!

      I think especially midi-length full skirts (a-line circle skirts etc) look amazing on pear-shapes! You can have the waist a bit higher if your torso is very long and it will make your legs look amazing! I am pear-shaped as well and I love summer print flare-skirts and jewel-coloured pleated midi skirts.
      Personally, I would never go for bell-bottom pants. Wouldn't it look weird to have strong thighs and strong flared calves as well? Your legs would look like stumps... Rather go for loose high-waisted pants darted in at the waist and with tapered calves, I think.

    Justine, you are simply the best. Thanks so much, from someone who felt hopeless about fashion before seeing your channel. Respekt!

    Lovely no frills guide :) I think it's a very good point to start at if a person is unhappy about their closet situation. I personally fall in between categories, my bustline is way smaller than my hips but my shoulders are naturally wide so I mix and match between the pear and hourglass ;) Also, I love skinny trousers because I can "desguise" my hips with a longer assymetrical top but show off my lower legs win-win.

    Two things can help with wide hips and thighs: a center pleat in your a- line skirt with smaller pleats that fold toward the center ( not toward the side seam, as pleats usually do.) I wear this skirt with a shorter top that hits at my waistline.

    Thanks so much for all your hard work in making these videos and sharing all this great info with us! I love how you get right into the content without a lengthy, boring intro. These vids are concise and informative, interesting and charming. I look forward to more. :D
    I'd like to see a video on how to dress a short-waisted body. (And one for the opposites with a longer torso)

    Thank you so much for this helpful video! I too am a pear shape and I really find this so true. Especially the part about flared jeans, it makes me look so so much more proportional!

    I like the Kibbe Body type system, because it doesn’t tell you to fix anything, but to embrace what you’ve got because there’s nothing to fix. And I suggest anyone who hasn’t seen it to look into it, it’s pretty nice
