    So you were able to run a tune with your allison swap, as I was told that the truck recognizes the allison as a Aisan transmission, and i would have to find someone in my area to run tunes for the 6.7
    I havent done much digging, but im currently running a 2010 ram 3500 6.7 all stock original 56k and am looking for upgrades before shit goes south.
    Thanks

      CATuning can do your engine calibration. You can use the 68 tuning you don't need a Aisin. You just need a real tuner. 99% of these "tuners" just sell someone else's tune they don't have the tools or knowledge to do it. I spent $1000 or so on tunes and guys couldn't figure it out. So then I found and bought everything I needed and it took 5 minutes and I'm not a tuner

    What kind of hp are you running? Does the trans slip at all? I’ve got a tuned 2013 2500 with the 68 and it’s starting to go out the window. Just wondering if I can get away with a stock trans like you did and build later so I don’t have a 20k bill for the swap and a built trans right off the bat

      So far no, at least i haven't tossed a CEL for slippage yet

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Allison kit comes from ATS, ill have a 6.7 kit hopefully at the end of the year. I had to design a new controller for the 6.7 swap. But it'll basically plug right into the ECM and the vehicle, everything will work like the 6.7 came in the 06-07s. Your ECM will know vehicle speed, wheel speed ambient air etc. Once the new controller comes in, it should move pretty fast!

    I wanna swap the nv4500 out of my 97 12 valve So they still not have a kit that will work fir that or can I do it with the kit you got. My truck doesn’t even have a T CM cause it was manual from the factory but I’d need a TPS for sure.

    Believe it or not there is a huge difference between Industrial shift schedules vs GM shift schedules. Hopefully all you aftermarket guys are using Industrial. Only way to get the full power of what an Allison is capable of doing. Allison is a working transmission. If you want to spin the tires and burn it up stay with the 68. If you want to pull 25k + use industrial.

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't agree with that at all. The industrial tcu can't be programmed for the additional HP and TQ a ram produces. The industrial tcu that is generally used is only rated for 130hp and 355 ft lbs of tq

    • @bearmetal8735
      @bearmetal8735 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure you know what your doing with all the aftermarket work arounds you guys do. Apparently you never seen what a 1k2k can do behind a 6.7 in a Navistar ambulance or a Freightliner M2 or a Cat C7. Torque ratings and horsepower are nothing when SEM and LRTP is used. You cant hurt the trans with industrial programming.

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bearmetal8735 There is a massive difference between Navistar, Freightliner, M2 and Cat C7 vs what the Allison conversions with industrial TCU. None of the conversions that use the industrial TCU broadcast any of the ECM, BCM, ABS, or any other body control modules. Which is why they ride like crap, bang though the gears and have 0 interoperability with the Rams or any other vehicle. I have no doubt in my mind, the ATS electronics will out perform every conversion that utilizes the industrial TCU. Because industrial TCU conversions only convert via J1939 data converter the analog TPS voltage to J1939. There is no way an industrial TCU conversion can compete with the ATS conversion on any scale

    • @bearmetal8735
      @bearmetal8735 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure your right about the converting stuff but when I heard you say torque input with Industrial programming I had to interject. I see this stuff everyday because I am a Allison tech. I've done them all 1k 2k 3k 4k CEC etc. Dont know why you would not use Allison programming to run a Allison.

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bearmetal8735 Yeah I am referencing Industrial TCUs used in Allison conversions. These only pass throttle position to the TCU. The TCU used in these conversions generally doesn't see vehicle speed, brake position, engine RPM (they use converter speed), load or anything else the the TCU requires to shift correctly. If you have big tires, these companies also try to convince customers to use the 5 speed because they cant adjust the calibration to shift into 6th. Let alone making the transmission populate anything on the vehicle.

    Hey boss just seen your video. I been contemplating doing ats Allison swap on my 18 3500 dually . I just spoke to them again last week seeing how there doing on time lines . I asked about just buying the kit from them and they said it wasn’t ready for sale for about month or so . I just don’t think it’s really worth 16000+ installed . I was thinking of doing what you did but I wanna put a trans some what built so I’m not having to pull it out 6months later to build it . What did they charge you for the kit alone under 8000 ?

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The kit I have is about $7500, I paid a little under $1000 for the trans. The trans is from a 2019 L5P and has less then 4k, figured it would be a good trans that doesn't need a rebuild. Installed i'm around $9500 when you add oil and the money I gave my buddy for helping me out.

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They dont use tow haul because the industrial TCU doesn't have the option. A better way of looking at it is how many user selectable modes are there? Generally you'll have Normal Mode, Manual Mode, Tow Haul and 4 wheel low. All of these modes are tune able. If you dont need or want tow haul, then tow haul can be set as a race tune. Unless CA stops using the industrial TCU which probably wont happen. Then there stuck with whatever the original vehicle manufacture requested Allison to program the normal mode for and manual mode. Most likely the calibration is for something like a UPS / fedex truck with small tires and a 4-cylinder Cummins. Which is why most people complain about the shift quality and high MPH to get it into 6th. Only way to know is to send it to Allison and ask what the calibration is intended for.

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vapeking8882 Dude your full of it. Tow haul is nothing more than an alternate tune. It allows you to wind out the gears if you choose. Or you can tune it for a race tune. I dont believe CA conversions has the ability to enable tow haul which is why they dont offer the option for you to use tow haul. Your stuck with the one un-tuneable calibration they gave you. However, in the case of just about every other option for a swap. It's better to have the option to use it and never need it vs. having a product that is incapable of even turning it on.

    • @caconversions4591
      @caconversions4591 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allison doesn't have a tow haul mode. It locks the convertor between 2nd and 3rd all the time, converter remains locked through 6th and all the way back down till about 12mph. Unlike GMs tow haul feature it doesn't raise the shift points where you don't want to use it. In automotive program such as GM, Ford, Dodge if they use tow haul they raise the shift points where people don't want to use it, they get slippage, heat and premature wear on transmission.

    • @SteedDolan
      @SteedDolan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@caconversions4591 You guys don't have a tow haul because you don't know how to make it work or integrate it with the TCU. It's your lack of knowledge, not an issue with Allison! Ditch the "tow haul" term and call it what it is, mode one and mode two. Anyways, if you guys are still selling kits for Rams, I bet it won't be long before you stop. I already know of some of your customers (recently new and old) who fixed their CA Conversion by upgrading to the ATS electronics. You guys need to innovate or close up shop, this is going to be a gnarly year for you guys if you don't.
