Too accurate
@@burp2019 you’re right Cloud and Sora are incredibly generic
@@TRUEKingEN it was in reference to all the near-identical anime sword fighters
All of you people complaining about too many sword fighters, just say you don’t like fire emblem and move on. Because cloud, Link, (Any variation of him), and sora, do not play like all the fire emblem representatives. Hell… Even Bylith who is a fire emblem representative, plays different than the others. Also Robin, and Korin somewhat. So yeah… Again, just say you don’t like fire emblem and move on.
The reason Snake became a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is because Hideo Kojima had originally requested Snake to be in Melee, but didn't make the cut due to time constraints.
On the other side of the spectrum, Sonic got added to Brawl very late into development which is why he's literally only at the end of the subspace emissary I assume because the rest of the story had already been written so it was the only place they could insert him. lol.
Snake in melee would have blown my mind as a kid. I probably would have kept my gamecube...

Brawl was my first smash bros game and overall the perfect introduction to Nintendo's history at the time. Given the fact I was just a 8 year old little kid who'd only played Kirby and Animal Crossing, the hours I spent pouring over trophy descriptions taught me everything I knew about Nintendo. That alone makes me respect Brawl. It came out at the perfect time for new fans.
This is a good game. The good out does the bads. The addicting coin launcher (my game always crashes when I play it which is sad :( )is also super addicting and fun to find nintendo people you have never heard of
@@PorkyMinch Last good Smash singleplayer content, in my opinion. Smash 4 had way less with the ditching of adventure mode, and Smash Ultimate has a lot of singleplayer content, but it's all unrewarding garbage. Spirits are a half-assed replacement for trophies with no descriptions or 3D view, and they feel so half-assed. No event matches, and World of Light is trash.

@@elpriax I am competitive, and it is still my second favourite game. Brawl is amazing.
better than melee
I definitely agree with you, that's like my favourite fighting game of all time.
Brawl is so special to me in a way very few games are. Growing up, I poured so much time into unlocking every character, getting every trophy, playing a match with every possible combination in Special Smash, and beating the Subspace Emissary eight times. (Yes, eight.) I just never seemed to run out of stuff to do, and now, ten years later? I still haven't.
I love your YTPs, man.
Fucking stickers man
Schaffrillas Productions I completely agree it just had so much content and I had so much fun as a kid unlocking it all (hell I was so crazy as a kid I would legit delete my save to unlock all the characters again because I found it so fun and I did this MULTIPLE times) honestly I wish I didnt do that as a kid cause now I cant see when I first played the game on my wii and I cant see all the legendary album pics I took back then on the save I have now I got some good ones still thankfully (stopped doing the save delete crap around 2012 or 2011 or so) but its a shame would have liked to go through memory lane the freaking album song is so nostalgic I want to cry. Honestly all of brawl soundtracks is incredibly nostalgic and makes me want to cry.. I still manage to find the most enjoyment out of this smash too nostalgia probably having to do a bit with that im honestly so glad to have grown up with this game and I hope most of you did it was great :).

brawl isn't so bad afterall huh?
Agreed. The cutscenes have an unnecessarily dreadful atmosphere that I never liked either.
I still watched them, but they just feel *off* for some reason.
Why do video game fans hate it when the company gives casuals something to play?
Because people are fucking stupid
Because typically it ends up dumbing down the experience by intentionally making the game casual oriented, like here.
Because if casuals play what me play same... Who special anymore?
Cause you can have it both ways. Casuals can still enjoy melee.
@@goldster100 Melee has a cast of about 5-8 viable characters for top level play.
Brawl has Metaknight, who dominates top level players with mediocre and predictable play.
And at the same time, they clearly invested time toning down and balancing Melee's best characters, theoretically expanding the competitive cast, only to ruin the whole point of that effort with Metaknight.
For me, the biggest problem with Brawl however was that it attracted a crowd that refused to turn off items. Even as a party brawler it just turned into item spam.
Maybe you don't like Fox Final Destination No Items, but nothing but grabbing and throwing items for 5 minutes meant I couldn't find a local scene worth going to to even play the underlying game.

That’s gay
Katzun OMG KATZUN!!! My main was PK Trainer
I was a pit main
i was a captain falcon main
I mained Meta Knight. not because he was top tier (I didn’t know about the tier list back then) but he’s my favorite Kirby character.
“Baby’s First Smash” is more accurate than you think. When I was around 5 or 6 I discovered Brawl while watching some of my distant relatives play Subspace Emissary. Believe it or not my introduction to Nintendo was watching Bowser shoot a dark gun at Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong taking the hit for him. Characters I barely recognized were dying and killing.
And thus, that family trip became the most important event in my life. I quickly got hooked Wii games and Nintendo, and honestly, most of the games I played were life changing for me. Subspace Emissary was the first “game” I had ever beat and nothing will ever make me feel the way that credit sequence did. It compelled me enough to play Super Mario Galaxy, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, Twilight Princess, and Majora’s Mask and those were all amazing experiences for child-me.
I’m sure I would’ve fallen in love with Nintendo even if I hadn’t picked up the game, but thanks to its charming nature and ability to introduce and flesh out the characters, I decided to become a Nintendo fan right then and there. Definitely the best decision of my life.
That’s so fire, one of my first game experiences was also Brawl, and man that story mode was so magical to me.
If you're making a game series and the worst one you've got is something as good as Brawl, you're doing really good.
If the worst game in a series is still a really good game, then maybe you’ve got an extremely well developed franchise

All those Brawl haters need to realise that Smash Bros was originally created by Sakurai for everyone to be able to play, and was literally supposed to be targeted at casual gamers, which is why I don’t understand the arguments for why Brawl is a bad game. It was honestly my favourite until Ultimate, due to things like the Subspace Emissary, which was the coolest thing to me as a kid.
I can definitely understand where these competitive smash players are coming from, but definitely not enough to turn away from the franchise.
You already stated why people didn't like brawl. All smash games before and after brawl are already designed to be accessible to casual fans, so Brawl watering down competitive gameplay was pointless. Why make an already casual-friendly fighting game slightly more casual-friendly while significantly damaging the experience of competitive players?
@@metabasketball405 I can understand what you’re saying, but it’s still a good game, even with the competitive side being unbalanced, and trash.

Snake got in as a personal favour Masahiro Sakurai did for Hideo Kojima.
Kojima's son loved Super Smash Bros 64, and when Kojima heard that his friend Sakurai was making a sequel, he asked if Snake could be in it so that his son could play as Daddy's character. Melee was too far into development by that point to add any new characters, but Sakurai said he would try and get him in if there was a threequel.
When development started on Brawl, Sakurai called Kojima and asked if he was still interested in Snake being in Smash. Kojima said "Hell, yes!" and that was that.
Thanks for the history lesson

Same lol. Everyone gushes about Melee and I didn't even know it existed until I was in, like, high school

Apparently one of the main reasons that Snake was the first 3rd party character announced for Brawl was because Hideo Kojima’s son asked Kojima to ask Sakurai to add Snake into the next Smash Bros. game after playing the death out of Melee and wondering why his father’s character wasn’t included.
I think Brawl handled the adventure mode better. It had CUSTOM levels exclusive to that mode, an ACTUAL story, AND it introduced guest characters and final smashes! It's not the best, but it's better ANY fan gives it credit for!

Yeah, I absolutely disagreed with Scott here. Scott's main complaint is that doesn't look like Nintendo, but the fact that it doesn't just makes it more unique imo. And it fits with the dark tone of Subspace Emissary more.
I grew up playing them all. But I definitely played brawl the most. Every game has it's own crutch in terms of balance. But random slipping in brawl was probably the stupidest thing Nintendo has done in smash.
TwisterSanity wow dr Mario what a great character that everyone missed
Spot on. While mechanically Brawl is my favorite of any smash, that Slipping mechanics still baffles me as to what they were thinking.
TwisterSanity I was disappointed Dr Mario was my guy
Tripping was a response to the competitive metagame of Melee meant to prevent the excessive wavedashing that so polarized the character tier list.
Unfortunately, making tripping random put unreasonable emphasis on camping and air game, which itself polarized the metagame (albeit to a lesser extent).

Basically what I'm trying to say is, I enjoy smash games for having relatively simple game play for a fighting game while still having a lot of depth due to, among other things, the more robust movement mechanics. And while I am (mostly) a competitive player, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the fact that some of my favourite video game characters are playable.
I enjoy this game more than other fighting games, I just don't like those darn items. So I'm presented with two choices:
1) Stop playing the game entirely to play another fighting game that I enjoy less.
2) Keep playing the game and use the option included in the game to turn off items.
I chose the second one, and I'm happy with it.

As someone who grew up playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Twilight Princess, I feel very nostalgic about the realistic art style. I does feel kinda out of place when compared to other Nintendo games' art style, but man, I fricking loved it back then and even by today.
It's kinda crazy how good these games look even today

@@mastronarde402 smash was revealed not the title
Hey hey hey, fun fact: Melee's intro was initially designed to be the reveal trailer, meaning it was ALSO used elsewhere. Melee fans who think that their beloved intro was made for the game itself aren't really correct here.
The intro is still fucking incredible
Brawl's cutscenes were better
freaking melee fanboy *CENSORED*
@@toonishigh it is a VERY high quality intro, not downplaying the quality of the game, rather downplaying why people consider it the second coming of christ.

its funny you mention that, because ocarina of time speed runners have a separate category where they have to beat the brawl demo of ocarina of time (and they've managed it)
Brawl was actually the first smash game that I played and the game that got me into the series.
Same here. Brawl introduced me to Smash Bros.
Brawl was not my first smash game my was melee
Latchlader1098 that’s how I got in it too. I was surprised people were saying it’s the worst one. I just don’t see it
Mine Too!

I agree dude. Even though Brawl isn't really made for the hardcore players, I still had a ton of fun playing it as a kid.
I used to love super mario super show as a kid. One thing I learned, is that kids got shit taste, and they can enjoy anything bright, colorful, and makes noise.
yeah, MvC:I was also big in the competitive scene for a while, but like brawl, it was dropped, while melee is still there.
Smash was never made for hardcore gamers first, the hardcore fans are a very small portion of the fanbase.
Jeeses99 yeah, no, it's not a competitive fighting game at all, what people call "competitive exploits" are just glitches that weren't fixed before released
melee seems to have been.
and we're not talking about hardcore gamers in general, we're talking about hardcore smash fans.
now, what is a hardcore smash fan? well, it's a player who dedicates time to mastering the game. As players dedicate time to mastering a game, they become skilled.
Hardcore will always be the smaller portion of any fanbase, but it is arguable that they should be a priority when designing the game, and ought to have the more valid opinion on whether the games are good or not.
Casual fans can only judge if a game is fun casually, which means in a shallow manner. They know virtually nothing about the mechanics of the game or how it works. Some commenters on here weren't even aware of dashing! a fundamental core mechanic!
It's like anything else. You wouldn't value an opinion of someone who likes a car because it drives nice over a auto enthusiast who can tell you all the details of the design, would you? definitely, the enthusiast can tell you which car is better, at least have a better opinion than the casual driver.
Even if that car is designed with the casual motorist in mind, the enthusiast can definitely tell you whether it is a good car or not, and all the 5 star casual reviews mean nothing if all the enthusiasts claim it's a terrible car. All that means, is that if you don't really care about cars, and just want a comfortable trip from point A to point B, then this car is shallowly good enough.
So if your gaming preference is a shallow show of lights, colors and chaos, then brawl is just fine. But if you care one bit about the actual game, you'd see the turd for what it is.
Me and my friends played this game all the time back then. It was fun and addicting. But trying to play the game now is difficult for me. I can't, for the life of me, understand how younger me was able to comfortably play with the sideways wii remote (my poor left thumb).
If i ever come back to play the game again, I would want to try it out with a Nintendo GameCube controller and Project M.
I remember the entirety of the Subspace Emissary plot than the next smash bros game that came after it.
Like seriously, to see the CGI cutscene of the Halberd suiciding towards a starship straight out of Starwars then immediately exploding into a bunch of smaller vehicles and watching Kirby snipe the starship with his Dragoon was pure dopamine fuel for my 11 year old skull.
Nintendo tried their best for making the cutscenes in Ultimate.
But that scene in Brawl will forever be their opus.

Two Words: Subspace Emissary.
Two words: Adventure Mode
Three words: ultimate’s disappointing story
@@benkenobi8328 It's not really much of a story mode. It's more of an adventure mode tbh. And sakurai even said it was for fun. It's nothing like subspace.
@@benkenobi8328 lies
Manakete64 “sakurai said it was for fun” yeah it was, for like an hour and you pretty much got all the cool characters. After that, major repetitiveness.
Loved playing Brawl, heck it even has an amazing story mode.
Also, Pit's 3D appearance before Kid Icarus: Uprising.
I remember only playing Subspace emissary when I first got the game with my siblings and cousin. We beat it in three days. After we moved, that's the only mode of Brawl I played. To this day, Brawl is my favorite smash game and will hold a special place in my heart
Would've been better if:
"Hey all, Scott her--"
And Scott tripping

I used to hate playing it with my friend but now I go out of my way making sure we play it.
Dylan Frey lmao I had the exact same experience, my babysitters nephew had brawl, was way better at it than me, and was an asshole. I HATED the game
Yeah simply cause it's my childhood and everyone complaining about the game, insults the time I spend with the game. I get triggered so fast if people say this is shit. (I'm waiting :) )

Always loved for me
Smash Bros Brawl is my favorite. I don't care what people say, it was great. Except tripping, no one likes tripping.
Bryce Mckenzie but zss wears heels and runs so tripping makes sense
True, it is the best in my opinion
I know right
Bryce Mckenzie
Conclusion.
Gay tripping,
Is gay.
Fair but but it's not competitive enough for me
I bought Brawl at my local Walmart during late 2015 or 2016 when Walmart was trying to rid their Wii stock, and I saw Brawl and Mario on the cover and said, “Dad, I want that one.” and that was that. One of my most played games on my Wii and in general for me.
I remember living thru the whole ssbdojo era and it was a experience rushing home to see what’s new in brawl only for a huge delay to be announced
Great video, Scott. I now feel safe coming out as a Wolf main.

@@darkcake1 oh yeah right. It's been a while since I beat subspace emissary but I remember really enjoying it. I found the great maze at the time annoying but I thought it was all pretty cool all and all. I understand why people don't like it. It's not perfect but I even liked the new bosses and enemies. It was a change from the melee one and not an unwelcome one. Besides you could use smash attacks! I kid melee though I do love both I just like brawl more.

im nostalgic towards brawl. me and my late best friend used to play it everyday after school. he would always beat the crap out of me since we were playing on his wii (so he knows more about the game than i do at the time), but i always had fun no matter what. seeing my favorite video game characters beating each other up was enough to make it fun for me.
Brawl was my introduction to the Smash Brothers franchise, I will always remember getting home on Friday and going over to my neighbors house to play some Brawl. It will always be special to me, and it’s definitely one of my favorite games.
