Dread was cancelled. Nintendo woudn't fund development for a 2D Metroid for 15 years straight. MercurySteam taking interest in the series is probably what brought it back.
These same people are the same people to point out plotholes in films while everyone is trying to watch it.

@@thatguy6227Metroid games should be short. They’re built for speedrunning. In fact, one critique I had of Samus Returns was it dragged on for too long. The game took me like 13 hours my first playthrough, which is ridiculous for a Metroidvania. Dread was 8 hours first playthrough, perfect.
Short and replayable. That’s how I like my Metroidvanias. They aren’t JRPGs after all.

@@cydm2 At the moment, those are the guys who sponsor everybody. Either hope for more sponsors to support youtubers or just suck it up I guess. I personally don't mind because I understand the grind, even if I will never be tempted to use any of the products. If anything I personally prefer Nord VPN ads over generic-iphone-game ads.

If I had to choose between them before the announcement of Dread, I would've picked Dread. I'm a fan of the 2D games but haven't had too much of an opportunity to play Prime

Metroid Dread has actually already been released
It's called Federation Force, and I'm not kidding.
Tanabe stated that Federation Force was originally a game for the DSi, meant to be more focused on the Galactic Federation, just as Metroid Dread was supposed to be : a DS game, with the Federation Force involved in a way or another.
So yeah. Metroid Dread is already here, but we all prefer to think it's actually dead.
I read around that Metroid Dread may release around Prime 4. Then again it's from 4chain from the leaker that predicted Mario 3d All Stars.
