well done pete,it takes hard work and dedication to restore anything but a double decker bus now thats a feat,as a young apprentice i had to paint a bristol d d and i did it with a 4inch paint brush valspar eggshell m d t green,it took me two weeks and it was a tedious task,im doing my capri at moment and its finding time as you know its scarce.
I have literally spent the entire pandemic watching you paint a Routemaster bus. It was time well spent. Congratulatons on getting it done! Please buy another one so the pink paint jokes can resume and Compo will have some company... ;)
My very first experience of buses was when I was 2 admiring them in my push- chair, in 1955! As I was brought up in Westerham there were RLHs on the 410, RFs on the 705 and 6, RTs on the 403 and GSs on the 464/5 and 485! These all made a huge impression on me and I could watch them all day from our upstairs flat overlooking the road that went off to Croydon. I temember all the Charing Cross routes being converted to Routemasters. What a tragedy that politics has ruined the whole London bus scene. That’s why it’s so SPECIAL seeing your film, Episode 24 tonight for the first time. Loved the GT6 and the series Landry. Hot tip: have you ever considers having an old Rover P4? I have a feeling you’d absolutely love one. It becomes a family pet just like all your London, PROPER buses. All power to your elbow, I unreservedly take my hat off to you (I still wear one) and salute you, Sir!Well done, WELL DONE!!!
Brilliant series of videos Pete... I used to paint commercial vehicles & had an opportunity to by a Route master yrs ago when TFL were seling them off, around 8k for proper uptogether one iirc...kicking myself now! Keep us updated & Happy New Year!
Excellent. Easily the most anticipated, specialist Routemaster bus painting video since Pete and his bus episode 23. Looking forward to what comes next.
Hello Pete. Love the fact your restoring these beautiful and icon buses. If there's anything that screams British it's the Route Master. Now when I look at all the Route Master refurbishments I can't help but notice that all have no screws holding the panels in place. Sadly all the screws have been replaced by pop rivets. You may be wondering how could know this detail? Well my Dad worked at Aldenham works in its hay day as a coach maker and he reckoned he had worked on every RM ever made. It was one of his pet hates when he saw an RM with rivets holding the panels on instead of screws. His prize possession was his Pump Screw driver. It was at least 2ft long. Designed for the quick removal and placement of long screws. Something must have rubbed off on me as I ended up working for London Country Buses. Thank you for posting these videos. I wish the very best keeping these Route Masters running.
Hi there, thanks for for watching. In an ideal world all the screws would go back in the bus but they often corrode and make for very difficult removal and re-instal so in the real world and in a non “show bus” world I use the old rivets. 👍👍
Hello Pete thanks for the reply. I do understand and I certainly didn't mean it as a criticism. I think it's great what you're doing. All the best from sunny Jomtien Thailand 🇹🇭 😎
My wife loves this. She drove RM’s in London about 20 years ago out of Putney depot. Now the children are older she’s back driving deckers in Devon and Cornwall. At her depot in Plymouth there is a restored RM for day trips which she is hopefully going to drive. Great job on the paint👍
The powers that be want England's identity dissolved! What better opportunity than the pandemic as an excuse to remove the last AECs. The most British of vehicles.
It's great to see you reached the last milestone in the painting marathon and the bus is looking really good now, it was well worth all the effort of sanding filling and sanding again. I hope from now on things will pick up again and you have a good year of events. I wonder how many more busses LT have hidden away. A couple of years ago I went to a model shop next to another garage and there were 4 in there one painted in gold. I really think they are missing out on withdrawing them they are a big part of visiting London for many tourists.
So I'm only up to here upside 24 , and enjoying them! 😊 I really like the antics of Compo ! I hope there is a way, a venue, a " vehicle " to keep compo and his antics alive ! Maybe drive around on compo and explore the countryside of Great Britain and have compo comment on ugly cars or something! Keep compo alive !😊
Great stuff, Pete. I really look forward to your videos. Gotta love your passion and the work ethic you demonstrate to get the bus(es) looking beautiful and running good. Glad to see the little one enjoying her time with you, too. Fascinating segment on the auction, too. Bus looks incredible!!!!!
That brings back memories. I worked on RM 1933 as a conductor in Carlisle back in the late 1980's. I think it was 904 in their fleet. It was also painted up in General colours for the 50'th anniversary of London Transport who I worked for then. Seems like a lifetime ago now. Everything has changed. Little has improved. Thanks for your videos, and happy new year
your RM is looking great, congratulations on the paint job and its completion. Look forward to the next instalment as you start to refit the bus for your needs.
Happy new year Pete and family....Quick Q......Although the roof of your bus is rarely going to be seen on its travels, and by the people on the ground....but surely it's going to need a spray of "RED'Y" too to protect it from the elements? Best Regards Alex
How Compo hasn’t been sent for scrap yet I don’t know!! Great to have you back, as if you are looking to buy another one already, Lord Barrington needs to limited how much space you’re allocated in the barn, especially now the other buses have been moved!!🤣🤣🤣
Nice one Pete! I'm just pleased to watch whatever you're kind enough to share! 🙂 And kudos to your lovely young camerawoman! Some brilliant photographic work there! 🙂 Stay safe, and all the best for 2022! 🙂
As always thanks for posting this, Pete. Delighted to see the paint job is finished at long last. You must be the most patient and determined man on the planet! Trouble is the bus looks almost too good in its London Red. :)
Don’t worry it’s not perfect by any means. It’ll look great out and about and at all the events. That all that matter. Thanks for you kind words and watching.
If I ever need a laugh I just pop to Pete and his bus, the guy makes me 🤣🤣🤣 and his love of the big red ones give me a 🙂 Moving buses out must mean moving buses in, will check to see how many you buy 👍🙂
Happy new year, Pete!. You were like a kid on a candy store, choosing buses to buy. :) #2730 is spectacular anyway (and even Compo has to notice). Great job. I hope we can keep following Pete and his bus (or buses) during 2022. Best wishes!.

Looking forward to your next video. Happy 2022 to you and all your family keep safe and well. Steve Bennett.
Nice to know these RMs were running on heritage routes, but as you say they were heavily modified, engine, interior, windows, grille, etc. Your little tin-plate Corgi Mettoy friction model used on the opening of your videos used RM 2071 and RM 5.
Happy new year brother from another mother hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas…. It’s great to see you back and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your channel 🥳👍🏻
Great video as always mate! Lovely to see the bus in her final shade of red! Sad to see the other buses go, but I am sure the shed will get filled back up soon enough! As for Compo....it's OK, the Motocompo has that little FIAT for company! :D
Hi Pete, first off, a very Happy New Year, I say buy two buses as it is only money, glad to see the final coat of paint going on , great work mate, take care and keep safe and well and covid free.
I remember the RM being introduced queues of people at bus stops would let the old buses go by to get on a RM, trouble was they often full. I just jumped on any bus to keep warm, though the only place to sit for warmth on an RT was lower deck front seat where you could put your feet on the gearbox cover plate.
The RLH brought back memories of the bus to school, normally an RF route but duplicated by an RLH for one morning service, serving 3 secondary schools, one a girls school, only having to make one diversion for a very low single carriageway bridge that even an RF would scrape if not in centre of road. Jam packed with about 80-90 yelling teenagers, conductor hiding on the platform.
somthing tells me the bidding is soon or has been done with.... and i have a funny feeling.... still a cracking vid pete and i can't wait for the next one.
Jeez all these buses.... even those two outside. I wish I could snap them all.....even the one outside with few parts missing. God I'm feel so depressed now 🤣
I would say buying all those busses would be a fantastic business opportunity if it was done right. Perhaps daily heritage tours in busy seaside resorts like Brighton, Bournemouth etc 🤔
Poor little Compo...😂😂 Nice to see the bus paintwork finished.
👍👍

We need the Heritage Route back in London! These buses are part of the very fabric of the city. LT took the easy way out by selling them off!
I actually agree with ya!
The powers that be want England's identity dissolved! What better opportunity than the pandemic as an excuse to remove the last AECs. The most British of vehicles.
