47 years ago, a worked at a country garage fixing split rim tires. We had a cage for the tire to sit while first airing. This was a skill I thought was long not needed.
We ( Mrs R and myself) had a great day at East Grinstead! Thank you for taking the trouble for a few words when you were at the wheel of RM1009. We are both looking forward to the next one. Still restoring old Jaguar police cars. Somebody has to. Less of them left than than RMs, but still great working London vehicles, part of the London street furniture of the time. Sad that so few are left!

Having only found your excellent videos recently, I'm kicking myself as I have never spotted RM1009, despite having spotted nearly 2,000 Rm's over the years.
That's one brave tyre fitter inflating a split locker rim with no cage or chains! If that ring had given way you'd be finding pieces of that tyre guy for half a mile in each direction!
A tyre shop local to where I grew up in Northern Ireland were fitting new large (rear) tractor tyres a few years ago. They overinflated a tyre and it exploded. Two staff were killed.

My friend Peter Cartwright was not so lucky when his RF673 broke down during the Hertford Running Day .. had to have her towed back to Buckinghamshire cost £900+.. now she is waiting to have her engine looked at … really hoping he can get it mended at an affordable price!
