A good tip for taking gaba or ltheanine is to crack the capsule open and squeez the powder under the tongue and let it dissolve then it will instantly get into your blood stream vs just swallowing a capsule and waiting a few hours for it to take affect. You can instantly feel GABA when it enters your blood stream its like a warming tingling sensation. Then you start to feel balanced after a few minutes try it.. Gaba has a sweet taste so don't worry its not nasty tasting. Swallowing gaba capsules takes waaaay to long for it to take affect vs instant relief under the tongue try it I swear by it.

After trying everything for depression/anxiety for years, I started taking L-Theanine a few weeks ago as a last ditch effort before talking to my doc about more serious pharmaceuticals. Holy crap it actually works! Like I can actually complete tasks without feeling like I'm climbing a mountain. I am way calmer and have a more positive outlook. Some mornings I'm practically buzzing. Currently in the middle of my pre-nursing anatomy & physiology series and really wanted to know how this works in the brain. All the articles I read were, understandably, quite surface level. @HesMade TheDecision Hey, if you are young and not a psycho bodybuilder, you could ask you doctor for Amitriptyline 75 or 100mg. Take it an hour before bed and you will sleep like a rock. It will take two months before you are not groggy in the morning. But, once your body catches up on sleep, it will not effect you at all except making you sleep. I have been on it for 18 years and am coming off. That alone makes me sleep without anything else. But, I'm 50 and at 60 they won't prescribe it to you. So, I'm coming off. Here is what it takes to make me sleep pretty good, not perfect but enough. 200mg Theanine, 2x Gorilla Dream, 1x Calm Tabs, 5mg of time released melatonin, 500mg garlic, 2 grams of potassium, 700mg magnesium, 2 or 3 grams of dha/epa combo and 17.5mg of Amitriptyline (guesstimate). The GABA is in Gorilla Dream. After it worked by itself, I got the Dream with it in it. But, try the Amitriptyline by itself first. Give it 3 months before you give up on it. Let it do its magic.

@@eugeniebreida1583 If "classic" b's is referring to something that sounds like "enzos" then from what I understand it basically has the same effect on the brain. I think the b's might be a bit more potent and difficult so idk. My sister had wd's from b's and she said it was hell. The best thing is to taper off over a longer period of time just to be safe. I didn't taper off the brews as I should have because I would have wd's as soon as I would wake up and got tired of it. I just constantly loaded up on gaba and valerian root supps all day long to keep my glutamate brain activity down for about a week until my brain readjusted. It just makes you feel like a zombie and really tired. L-theanine didn't seem to do much after the first couple days of taking it although I'm sure it helped. I think the best thing to do is to cut your dose by half every few weeks or so to be safe. My sister switched to a lower dose extended release clonazepam which really allows the brain to readjust in a safe manner. I was only drinking around a 12 pack of brews and it was bad enough for me to go through that hell of wd's. Opiate wd's can't even kill. Booz and b's are nothing to play around with. I hope you do well and overcome the temptations of the flesh. God bless you!!

I took 1 tablet last night at bed time and fell asleep in45 minutes and slept for 8 to 9 hours I woke up 2 times but fell back to sleep no problem. It's nice to get some responses from people actually taking this.
It took about four days for me to really notice the effects, but it improved my sleep immensely, and cut way way down on my more manic episodes. In this regard I think it improved focus. I felt more relaxed in social situations, and love the way this curbs the nasty side effects of coffee. Namely it gets rid of the jitters, muscle tension, increase in blood pressure rate, etc. It gives you clarity and focus. I can see why they combine it with caffeine. Nice combo.
What it doesn't do: I take probably 15 benzodiazepines per year for extreme panic attacks. L-theranine is not a benzodiazepine, and it's not going to curb the extreme anxiety or panic. Depending on how severe your attacks are it may be strong enough though, and getting off benzodiazepines is a very good thing. I think they are wonderful, but I don't like to use them more than two days at most. The withdrawal is horrible, and I would say taking them with L-theranine is even worse as I become extremely lethargic when the benzo wears off.
I think one of the reasons L-theranine doesn't work as well as a benzo is it doesn't do anything to control cortisol. That what give you the fight, flight , freeze response. So if you get a queasy stomach, diarrhea, bad muscle tension, etc. over anxiety you will probably still need something else for the extreme stressful situations.
Ashwaganda does work on cortisol, but it's pretty mild. I also have read it increases testosterone. The drawback here is testosterone and cortisol are highest in the morning, so I noticed I got very panicked first thing in the morning. L-theranine alone doesn't do this.
If anyone has found something other than benzodiazepines to control extreme panic, I love to hear about it. I still have to take the benzos for panic attacks, but this supplement is really wonderful, and overall has little side effects.
Most of the other ones I've taken leave me pretty sleepy, or upset my stomach, etc. I do find L-theranine can upset my stomach if I take it on an empty stomach, so try to combine with food.

I think it would be very foolish for anybody to start popping supplements, particularly in high amounts, without first consulting with a doctor or a nutritionist.
I live in Alaska, so vitamin D3 I think is beneficial, due to our lack of sunlight. Every GP recommends taking some. Before I would ever consider popping 10,000 IU's though, I would have my levels checked. Last thing you want to do is develop toxic levels of this. And high levels of D3 can also lead to hypercalcification. My urologist warned me after I developed kidney stone that I may be taking too much D3, and that's when I was taking 2000 IU's. Bottom line though is you really need to test, and see what your base levels are.
Medical doctors have years of training in biochemistry, and even there it's a bit of an experiment. I doubt you'll find any doctor though just making suggestions without doing thorough blood test, listening to what your symptoms are, etc. A plan should be tailored to the individual.
When somebody starts suggesting three or four supplements at one time that's a big red flag to me.. Randomly popping pills in the hope that it will improve things is gambling IMO.

I think both benzodiazepines and barbiturates are allosteric modulators rather than direct agonists of the GABA receptor. I think even the old 80s favorite qualifiers was an allosteric modulators. Barbs are strong enough to activate the receptor complex, while benzodiazepines need a GABA to be present for the receptor complex to activate.

Same thing happened when I tried again several months later. By the 5th day I couldn’t sleep and felt very anxious. Was shivery and couldn’t breathe well. Tiny bit light-headed. I really wanted it to work because it’s supposed to be the best supplement for anxiety but not for me. Also tried ashwaganda, but it caused a slight allergic reaction and I spent the whole night itching.

Save yourself the hassle, and just take it every morning. No cites report an RDA limit needed, nor long term issues. Taking more than 200-300mg a serving seems to have no better effect nor issues.

I think L-theanine may be one of the few supplements that wasnt a complete waste of money. For me the calming effect is rather subtle. At first you think its not working and then you suddenly realize how less wired you are and how harder it is for people and circumstances to push your buttons. One less desirable effect it can have is to make you less motivated which can be an issue for those who are procrastinators by nature.

Do we built tolerance to it after a while? Or does it work forever? We have to cycle it? I had some good supplements that did wonders (DHEA & Pregnenolone) but stopped working after couple weeks. Same for Boron.

BTW, you can get a GABA which will cross the BBB, however it is a mixure of GABA and B3/Niacin called Picamilon. It works well enough to be prescription only in Russia. This also apparently isn't an agonist/antagonist itself, it merely give the brain a resevior of GABA to pull from.

I take l-theanine mints from neurogum. Good quality control it is cold pressed and also amazing form factor. With it being a mint it provides more utility instead of having to take capsules during a function I can just look like I'm taking normal mints but in actuality I am managing anxiety

So how do you help Gaba Receptor Uptake to revitalize - after past use of Benzodiazepines - which inhibit Uptake. To be successful in getting off Benzodiazepines - you got to increase Gaba Uptake regeneration - surely - there must be a simpler way to correct this imbalance that antagonizes normal Gaba function? Save the world - more that you can be aware, today!

NMDA receptor antagonist? Do you have a link to that research? I've only read theanine possibly being an agonist at the NDMAR.

I wanted to buy L-Theanine supplements for my mother.
    Because she is very forgetful.
I have done research and read responses.
Notice that L-Theanine does not work on memory.
Most people become relaxed or muscle aches become less and sleep better.
The other forms of magnesium do that too.
I also notice that L-Theanine is not sold much.
If L-Theanine worked it was a world wide popular supplement among people with memory problems.
The best magnesium that I have used but is very expensive, Nano Mineral Water (Colloidal Magnesium Extra Strong) is totally incomparable with capsules and powders, it is pure nature.
But too expensive for me to continue.
For people who have had enough, this is a miracle cure.
People with heart rhythm disorder, magnesium taurate works well.
    Thank you for your video.

No one ever said L-T is good for memory, so not sure your 'research' is valid for much. There are many good Mag. supplements, some have better affects in some areas compared to others. Any simple google search can tell you that. As long as you are not taking Mag. Oxide, which is predominantly in every drug store vitamin mixture, you are good.
NOW is a great manf. in my experience, in quality and price.

If 200 mgs doesn't relax you is it safe to take more?

    • @boots7859
      @boots7859 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, however between 200-400mg, taking more than that has been shown to do nothing for almost everyone. Its just wasted product.
You may want to keep taking it, as part of a 'stack', and do some research on other additions/
