I think some of the people saying it cant be done are some of us oldschool guys. Back in the 90s when i started, very few artists used white at all and those of us that did, used it sparingly. The best white we had was starbright white and it was finicky. If you got any blood in it, it turned pink when healed so you had to be carefull and barely get it in there which probably meant multiple touch ups. I remember doing a white and black horse fighting and didnt use a drop of white in the white horse. I used washes of light blues in the shading to trick your eye into seeing white. It worked but had it been 15 years later, i would have used some white.
I think the other issue is it really can't just be done like a regular tattoo. These require a lot of maintenance. It's a completely different level of dedication than most would make.
I remember mixing up titanium powder in my dads shop to make white in the 80s, the powder and glycerin worked for solid white
I love this comment because I just came from another video where he was talking about the sparse use of white in old school practices bc of it turning pink and how they would commonly use blue to supplement it. Exactly what you said so it's cool to see that confirmed
Hello Brandon, now that you have skin in the game, I´d like to ask you a question: If you are asked to tatoo an arm with a white rose in a black background, wouldn´t it be better to tatoo the rose first and then black all around, than blacking the whole arm out first and then tatoo the white rose on a black canvas? wouldn´t it be quicker, cheaper and more effective?
@@ceylonin7289 You wont get the same effect, also white on un inked skin doesnt tend to take in very large areas and you have to worry about blood mixing with it and turning it another color, usually a pinkish color. Also another thing, you would have to worry about is dragging blood and black ink into your white that you did first. Im not saying you cant ever do lighter colors first because sometimes you just have to, but White really is only good for small areas unless your going over another color, and then you have to layer it and is a different effect. If you were to attempt it the way you described, i would bloodline the rose, do the background and wait until the day after and do the rest but dont expect much results. I wouldnt do it for many reasons
I've become entranced with black out tattoos. It's popped open my mind like can of worms... so much potential. Been watching this channel for like 2 weeks. I’m loving it! Found it because I was thinking about getting a half blackout sleeve with white filagree and floral over the top. These episodes are steering my thought process for sure.

That skull at the end is an amazing piece of work.. the use of tiny flecks of bright white, and working with the underlying scars is stunning imo..

My tattoo artist is impressed by how well I heal white - I have a dotwork sleeve with white highlights but it is mostly a dark, dense black dotwork - the lighter contrast with white makes it look like an inverse sleeve. I'm tempted to ask for more white highlights since it makes the whole thing pop!

I’m currently in the shedding stage of one of my tattoos and a flake fell onto the screen as the skull popped up ,

I keep looking for ideas and im done . Im going white on black . I digg it alot . I have alot of ink on my arm and pieces are from a life i dont want to remember. Black out with white on top will be perfect for covering up my bs
The lion is awesome. I think it will need another round to deepen the Black in and around it. And hit up the white again but overall it looks amazing

Hello sir,
I have a tiger tattoo on my forearm.(solid black outline and tiger stripes not colored in) i am not satisfied with how it looks, i’d like to cover it with another Tiger with a different pose and size… will it still come out clean even though it is overlapping the tiger stripes from the first tattoo? Or will it be possible to use white ink to lighten the old stripes?

Waiting for people to start doing the wildest color you can and tell the artist (on camera) no need for stenciling, outlines etc .... were goin in,were solid (fill in wanted color) & lookin forward to finishing it, wait for it to peel & heal then we goin' in again 😂 people like the "smurfs & little ompaloompas in Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory"
I have blackout half sleeve but putting white ink I think is not good.because after healing white ink became faded

Blows my mind people don't believe white on black is possible. More people need to follow suit with Remy and show videos/pictures of HEALED work. The stigmas in the tattoo community sometimes are so disheartening. The thing about some collectors is they think they know everything and simply aren't open to something new. As an artist this is something I strive for.
It is a real shame, and honestly I feel bad for a lot of people trying to get this work done with so many people believing it can’t be done, it’s forcing a lot of people out into the cold to some degree, laser is not a perfect route either.

None. They all require several passes
And i agree it will not be solid white it will be shades of grey -------love the skull and use of the scars for texture
remy - i have a question about a coverup. can you put white or light grey overtop of red and blue with enough passes?
Yes of course. Go look through my page, I had several bright red roses on my head that are now white
@@EphemeralRemy ok, those roses look really good and i like that velvet red on your shoulder. thanks for that. does it have to be a solid bg for it to work, or do you think its possible to change the shape? just for example if i had a coloured rubric cube, could i possibly change it to a solid gray box?
@roseoverdose6451 it’s entirely possible to change the shape yes, you should watch the transformation of the rose on the back of my head, it’s been done many different ways

Have you seen these guys using computer lasers to white over blackout tattoos. I'm a knifemaker, so I see a lot of guys etching knives with these lasers & it blew my mind when I saw it. It was a personal laser. That said, they didn't show it healed, so I'm curious. Just heard you at 4 min, is that what you are talking about? Just found your channel. Hope all is well, take it easy.
I’ve seen it done, but laser is a very gradual and subtle result as well, so it should return a very similar result as white ink, but it might be even fuller, that being said it’s not a bad idea to be trying. Cheers and thanks for watching
@@EphemeralRemy That's what I was wondering, cause this was like a mandala design & it looked white after 1 pass, but lining it up again seems really risky... I just started learning on my legs & fake skin, I wanted to be a tattoo artist since 85' when mom had to sign for a stick & poke cover up. Only kid in 9th grade with pro tat, hahaha. Unfortunately, addiction took decades of my life... Thanks for replying, take it easy.

This is a very old video, I’ve done tons since this. I haven’t been limited with anything, you can do whatever you want over black, and I have. Currently I’ve been tattooed close to 2400 hours

It’s all about lighting, everyone’s blackout looks lighter in some lighting than others, check out my vlogs for example
