Yeah, I think the companies are just looking to steal as much from the consumer as possible. 3:2 is more screen area for a given screen diagonal size (15.6", 14", 13", etc) Why not have the consumer pay for literal blank space, often advertising their company logo too? (AKA Big bezel chins and/or big heads)?

Surface Book 2 has the best battery life in the category, a great 3:2 screen, convenient keyboard/touchpad and a reliable set of peripherals. It also comes with a clean install of Windows 10 Pro. Perks and gimmicks aside, the Surface Book 2 is one of the best all-rounder laptops out there, plain and simple. The Surface's only problem has always been price.

Sir could you please let me know if the pen input on the Lenovo felt like writing on glass, or if the pen has some friction against the surface like the surface book’s pen? I’m a science major who still likes taking notes the old fashioned way with writing vs typing. Having notes electronically on one note via the pen input sounds really nice- if the note taking pen doesn’t feel super slippery like writing on glass all the time. I thank you in advance for your feedback!

I recently bought SB2 15" and went through this same dilemma for months before buying SB2. Excellent video and reflects most of the thoughts that had to decide from. I decided for SB2 for two main reasons, the swag and 1060 may help with photo and especially video editing (although I do not do video editing that much).

Since i have a decent desktop and I got used to having 2x27" monitors always in front of me, after I discovered how nice and smooth the Samsung Dex works with my Samsung S8, I decided it was enough, and o just ditched my Surface Pro 3. I have a Microsoft foldable keyboard and a lenovo yoga mouse that doubles as a presenter remote, that I used for the surface also. I only take the keyboard when i feel like I need it, but in the last month I held my classes only with my smartphone docked into the Dex, connected at the projector, used the mouse to navigate the desktop from presentation to presentation and all was fine. Powerpoint was snappy and w/e movies I had to show ran without any issues. It seemed simpler to have a HDMI output than a mini display port, since most of the projectors in classes have HDMI or VGA. Sound was there through HDMI when needed. It's a perfect pair for a teacher on the run, but this is all paired with a decent desktop to work with, when I get home.

I have a SB2 15". Honestly, I love it so much. As a student, digital artist and gamer, this is performs as well as it is portable. I went with the 15" as it has the 1060gtx and of course the bigger screen, I don't think there has been a day where I've put my stylus down. I also got the 10% student discount so that was quite nifty. Would recommend the SB2 to anyone who has 2 or more needs as I feel like it's more orientated towards the creative arts community (I mean the surface dial/pen/dock is a nod to this statement)

Yeah I went with silver also thanks again great review I struggled for weeks picking out my new computer job is Sales and Marketing Manager so having the accurate colors for approving advertising was important and it is probably more power then I'll need for the daily things I'll be doing... Got the new X1 Yoga - HDR screen AND 4G Cellular. It does exists. Love the two TB ports, the keyboard, and the flip screen. Didn't like the MS Surface Pro due to high cost, NON-SERVICEABILITY, lack of TB, proprietary charging port, and lack of accessories (unlike Lenovo).

When I was shopping for a laptop, I was looking at the HP Spectre x360 15t, but it wasn't the best option for my budget. I went with the Lenovo Yoga 720 13. • @Crsnik01
    @Crsnik01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the honesty! And since you asked: I'm pretty much on the fence regarding laptops atm. Honestly I would love it if MS had a solid tablet offering with essential apps for mail, onenote, file handling and pen support. Throw in a 120hz display and I'm pretty much sold. While I'm probably in the minority with this, but I think full w10 is overkill for a tablet and as much as I loved the surface line it's too pricey for what I would actually use it for. And the w10 UI just doesn't work for a tablet that well. Not even in tablet mode. Despite all it's shortcomings, this is something w8.1 definitely did better.

I really like my new Surface Book 2 15". I upgraded from the SB with Performance Base. I did try my hand at a Razer 14", but the fans were a bit to much for me, and even when I decided to give it a second try before returning it, I had a complete system crash with no ability to recover. On my new SB2 I have enjoyed gaming on it on occasion (on the go) plus I use the pen quite a bit too. All my devices are pen input devices as I am a huge OneNote user and love the ability to just jot down information that I can later convert or edit right from within the note. I don't draw as much as I would like to say I do, although I do like knowing I have the capability if I so choose to do that again.

The old i7 Surface Book's cpu is slower than the i5 Surface Pro. The fanless i5 throttling will even that out a bit, but for short workloads the i5 is faster.
If, like Dan, you don't use it, I would avoid the Surface Book. the 940MX isn't a particularly good gpu anyway.

Why everyone chooses the 15" inch to compare to is beyond me, the 13.5 inch is more affordable and closer in specs to most other competitive devices on the market. The 15 inch is a productivity and content creation powerhouse that packs a heck of a lot of hardware in a sleek form factor. Looks to me that Daniels need would have been met with the i5 version of the SB2 or even the SB1 with performance base for not much more than the Lenovo. Absolutely in love with my SB2.

Agree that It’s always about how well the device fits the particular user needs. I love the Surface Book 15” as both laptop but also when separated in tablet-only mode to support inking for note taking and journaling. The size, thinness, and light weight for this and performance are spectacular. Nothing else even comes close. But that’s because of my own use case regarding the tablet. A 2 in 1 that folds and doesn’t separate when desired is way too heavy and bulky - feels like going back in time 10 or 20 years.

I recently bought a Surface book 2 for $2000+ tax for the 512GB model.
I pricematched it with bestbuy and then I used a 25% off coupon from office Depot.
If the device wasn't on sale I would have waited for the new Razer 15.6 laptop with 8gen CPU, or another gaming Dell laptop.
The new Razer looks bad ass!
For my needs, I want a dedicated GPU. So the Lenovo wouldn't work for me.
Yeah it's hard choosing a laptop these days indeed.

i only use my laptop for Microsoft Word and websurfing. I went with the entry level Lenovo Flex 6 14" . I love everything about this computer except the low res 720p touchscreen. Off angles are not allowed but i only use it in a normal laptop angle anyways. It chugs along well with most every day things with it's little multi threaded pentium 4415u cpu. I replaced the 500gb toshiba HD with an Adata sata 120gb SSD. This makes a world of difference in everything. When i was swapping drives i noticed it has a M.2 NVME slot inside so if i ever need more storage. I do something people think is really weird and run it in tablet mode all the time. I didn't think i would care about the touch screen but i use it ALL the time now. It has a GREAT keyboard and good trackpad. Mine came from best buy and i caught it on sale for $379. Best new $400 laptop i could find 4 months ago. I am going to stick with it for a while. I really prefer 11-12" screens but there is no quality products i can afford in that small category :(

Nikola Kostic, the x1 yoga has more ports, is more durable (military grade), and weighs the same with comparable battery life. It was the extra ports that grabbed my attention. When I found an x1 online at a great price, I snagged it, no regrets.

LM B. Fair enough, I guess it's all tradeoffs. I personally went for the yoga due to 70wh battery (vs 54) and thinness: 14mm (vs 17). I think the yoga 730 is about 17mm, just like the x1, but that one has a gtx 1050

I just pulled the trigger and bought this used on Ebay because, (1) It was out of my budget to buy new for this model, (2) I hate all non-Apple trackpads, so the Lenovo TrackPoint allows me an escape for when I'm fed up with a sub-par trackpad, and (3) because I'm a student who takes notes in class and sometimes there are drawings and diagrams on the whiteboard to copy down. Having a pen is nice for those instances but I don't need to use one for hours at a time. I can tuck it away when I don't need it and not worry about losing it.

Agreed, almost generic in fact. I have no doubt the built quality is great and nice move with that HDR display, but the design of the laptop is almost boring. I suppose it's more business oriented that for anything else.

Personally, I didn't buy any new laptop. I'm sticking with Surface Book with dGPU from 2015.
I'm a photographer, videographer and retoucher.
What I did some days ago was buying a spare Surface Book Performance Base on Ebay. Just the base, with no tablet. Spent 200£. Which is a fraction of the price of a whole new Surface Book 2.
A "cheap" and useful upgrade to my current machine which I've planned to use until it dies :-)
Thanks Microsoft for having created such beautiful machine!
P.s.: honestly, I prefer the Surface Book over the Lenovo, but it's just my opinion.

I have the surface book... But realistically if I could buy one tomorrow I would lean towards the Samsung galaxy book with LTE... It has better battery life and can charge off of a smaller battery bank... I use my laptop to mark up drawing all of the time and a light weight, large battery, nice pen, LTE, low power is attractive... I'm wondering if the surface go when it comes out with LTE might not be a really good option

Having owned all three laptops, the XPS 15" 2-in-1 beats both the surface book and the X1. The Surface Book was too bulky, and I had all kinds of problems with the quality of the Thinkpad. The Thinkpad is also priced pretty high for something that doesn't even have a discrete GPU. The keyboard was the best, but it didn't take long for me to adapt to the mag-lev keyboard on the XPS and now I really like it.

me too man, I can't believe there is no 360 3:2 laptop on the market, one that is not top heavy as the surface book. Hope someone will make a light one, like the notebook 9 pen, but with the right aspect ratio. Something like the Matebook X pro but yoga style. MS wants to create new devices with its Surface line but they don't realize there is a need for such a device

First let me say that I already own a Thinkpad yoga 14 and love it. Now I just bought the new x1 yoga and really liked it. It's basically the same device but it was alot lighter. I got the i7 with the HDR display. The display is beautiful and here is where the problem came in. THE BATTERY LIFE! With the hi-rez screen the battery life stinks. I was so disappointed. None of the reviews do true battery tests. I don't know why. If you get an honest 3 hours your doing well and that is with the display at half brightness. Who knows how long the machine will last at full brightness. I ended up returning the device. I think I'm just going wait a little longer or buy it again but with an i5 and the lower rez screen with the hopes to get better battery life.

Chris Capozzoli, after doing the updates from Lenovo and Microsoft, I had no problem with battery life. I’m able to go a whole work day with screen at 50% and battery performance settings at half-with no noticeable drop in performance. Of course, work for me means using Word and Powerpoint, email, and the web, so I’m not a big power user.

I went with the Surface Book 2 15". I never had a high end laptop like this before, and I know a lot of laptops that do the tablet mode leaves the key board exposed. The best thing about the Surface Book 2 I think is I'm not just getting a laptop, but I'm also getting a tablet too. The Surface Book 2 keyboard is the best I ever used on a laptop. My only complaint with this laptop is the feet on the bottom do not stick to surfaces good. The laptop is a little too easy to move around the table, but if that is my only complaint then the laptop is mostly perfect. I highly recommend the Surface Book 2 to anyone if they're willing to spend the cash on it.

I need a convertible laptop with a MX150 which already fits all my PC gaming needs. It should be light and quiet when I'm just browsing the web or do decent office work. It should have Wacom EMR. AES or the latest N-Trig technology would be ok too. But not old N-Trig like Acer does.
14' would be a perfect compromise between weight and size for me.
And I would really love 3:2 aspect ratio.
But there's just no device like this. Even if I'd step back a little here and there.
A Huawei convertible laptop might be the solution. Or Samsung selling their laptops in Europe.

I imported the regular notebook 9 (extremely light) to Europe and I love it, but a convertible would be my dream, but only with the good ratio, 16:9 does not make sense as a convertible. A convertible Matebook x pro would be great. Glad to know I am not alone. There may well be a market for the first manufacturer that will make such device.

I used to have a laptop but it was taking so much space on my desk. I am saying that cause I also have external keyboard. The reason behind external keyboard is that I have external monitor and it would be really hard to use meyboard on my laptop to not destroy the experience with the second keyboard. And behind all of that I have sound sytem which is also taking space on a desk. The worst thing about laptops are cables. When I want to go somewhere with my laptop I need to disconnect all the cables and connect them again when I get back. This is the reason I ha e decided to buy Surface Pro 3 (used and with i5/8gb ram/ 256 ssd) where I got Surface dock with ot and detachable keyboard. Surface is taking less place and I am not losing nerves with all those cables because all I need to do is detach Surface dock from it.

I have the i5/4gb 128gb SP3, and I kinda miss that extra 4Gb of RAM, especially recently when windows 10 decides to do things in the background.
I use mine as a secondary device, but the small space it takes up on a desk is really useful.
Also I only used it as my main computer when my ssd died in my pc, and it handled two monitors, Spotify, lot of chrome tabs, and CAD really well.
My ideal device would be a Surface tablet, but with an optional Surface book style keyboard dock, with an optional GPU (in the MX150 range) and maybe a drive bay.
      Also better WiFi card.

    • @antoniohaluzan3396
      @antoniohaluzan3396 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I mostly don't care about WiFi at all. There are really rare cases I am using that. To be honest, I don't think I would be satisfied with SP3 at all if I don't have Surface dock. Every single port that exist on the dock, I am using it. With SP3 I have 2 external monitors cause I really have a space for it. Having 2 external monitors for me means to do my work much easier (software development). 4GB of RAM wasn't even a choice for me, cause it wouldn't be able to handle the work. And about 128 GB of SSD...maybe yes maybe not, hard to say. I am using 3TB WD MyCloud NAS for storing everything so maybe 128 GB of SSD would be enough. Really hard to say. And yea, the biggest difference between having SP3 or laptop is next. When I go somewhere with my laptop, it is bulky and heavy. Really not portable. Portability was the main reason I decided to let go on laptops. Laptops gives you power you can't get in devices like SP but you are losing a lot. As I mentioned, portability and all those problems with cables. Both of laptops and SP can get heated really hard, but for laptop which packs the power, it is really hard to find good cooling pad that will keep your laptop from overheating. But for SP3 I managed to find small cooling pad for his size and it is cooling SP3 like a champ.

Lenovo has also docking stations, all cables are connected to the docking station, one puts the x1 on the dock. Probably every professional laptop manufacturer like dell, hp has docking stations.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

For me the WiFi is only a problem when moving files over the network.
I'm a student with a limited budget, and I didn't really had the money for the 256/8GB model, and I also got this one with a steep discount. Storage is fine, since I keep an eye on my steam games, and I have a 200GB MicroSD card for media.
Portability was a big thing for me too. I take it with me to university everyday, because I don't really notice the extra weight. Also I wanted a great screen (IPS), and great battery life, and those cheaper ultrabooks, which offered these things don't really exist anymore.
Do you have a link to that cooling pad?
