    Very nicely done as always Lisa. I'm so used to 3x2 aspect screens now that I don't think I could go back to 16x9. MS has me locked in until other OEM's pick up that option.

    My only beef is how hard it is to fix the surface book. Thinking long term ownership I think the Lenovo is a better option.

    • @jasonc4742
      @jasonc4742 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      yes but it's also worth considering that people who get the yoga/surface book tend to do a bit more than just productivity work on basic applications like an IDE or Word. A lot of them are likely going to be doing things related to graphic designs and maybe some editing, which means they do have to keep up with the specs as opposed to keeping a machine for a decade.

    • @tek2313
      @tek2313 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly, when you buy a device like this you need protection warranty, inside the surface book, most of the parts are glued together which is a huge issue if you want to open the device, Imagine I can't even clean the fans! I live in a really dusty area.

    Hey Lisa, loved the comparison. Great video as usual. Thank you very much. I do prefer the looks and built of the Yoga, but I guess for my work needs the SB2 15 inch will be the choice. I guess it comes down to whether or not I can MS support in Hong Kong.

    Thanks! That's what I wanted to hear! Excellent comparison! Thanks also for the benchmarks even if you haven't commented on too much. I wish HP sent you BOB spectre 360 15" 2018 and HP Zbook x2 for a more complete comparison of what I am considering for my work. And I hope these lasts will come out soon in Italy as well for a price comparison here which will definetly play a big part as well. I think my best would be ZBook x2 G4 with Intel® Core™ i7-8650U processor (1.9 GHz, up to 4.2 GHz with Turbo Boost, 8 MB Cache, 4 core) + NVIDIA® Quadro® M620 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 (2WX07AV) 14" diagonal FHD UHD DreamColor B-LED UWVA for Webcam + IR slim Touchscreen (3840x2160) and 32 GB (2x16 GB) DDR4 2133. Do you agree? But what will be the price? Will it be worthwhile?

    The SB is my dream laptop apart from the following:
    1) Too many people complaining about issues after first year of ownership.
    2) Repairability.
    3) Lack of Thunderbolt.
    4) Price.
    If only one of the mainstream OEMs pickup the 3:2 hi res display. I guess I'll keep waiting.

      A year and a half ago I got the first gen SB i7 dGPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD.... I did have a couple of big issues, however microsoft solved them over the phone...
      I also got an AC Charger replacement because my original wasn't charging my phone properly (over the USB port)... and the replacement was of higher wattage (102W over 65W)
      Windows still have some issues, but to be honest, this has been the best machine I have had... and I would get the new SB2 if I got a chance...
      The lack of thunderbolt is sad, but it is definitely not dealbreaker for me... the SB2 delivers a lot and the port is not utilized by the vast majority of people....

    Lisa, if I have understood GPU's limit well, ThinkPad X1 Yoga for Photoshop and 2D CAD is good enough, for occasional video editing is enough as well but if I want to do 4k video editing or 3D CAD on the move I need SB2 or something bigger: is that correct?

    You forgot to mention about difference in active pen. I really enjoy and like how X1 Yoga had where you can store pen within the laptop unit without sticking out and also recharges the pen when stored. Also recharging rate is amazing, 15 seconds charging for 100 minutes use, I heard. And X1 Yoga's think shutter is a plus for me too. Although you can't have Windows hello facial recognition with Think shutter, I like how it keeps private when you shut the camera, which also mute micro phone at same time. Lenovo absolutely has better hardware security and perfect for business people.

    Hi Lisa, so I been doing some research and watching your videos and I still have a big doubt between 3 laptops. One would you choose between HP Spectre 13, Yoga 920 and Surface Pro? I am looking for a fast light laptop basically and 8 ram and i5. Is 8th gen really much faster? But do Spectre and Yoga get really hot and noisy? What do you guys think as well?... The other option is the surface book 2 8 ram 128gb... but its a little big heavier. Thanks!

    I would buy the surface book 2 if it came in black. I never understood why companies don't include a black color option for their products, it makes no sense consider the amount of customers they would gain. Another thing I realized is, why aren't there any good long digitizer pen nibs? As an artist when I am doing any kind of sketching work I hold my pencil differently than as I would for writing. I hold it loosely and at the end of the pen, I so far have not seen a single company incorporate the ability to track strokes made that way.

    I never realized GTX 1060 is considered mid tier graphics ? I mean relative to the Nvidia 10 series sure but in terms of all the graphics card out there I would consider it in the upper end.

      trishan17 upper mid tier is where I’d put it probably. It’s definitely close to the top tier

      It's mid tier within the current gen. You can play all games at 1080p at full details with it.

      It would be mid tier if high end gpus wouldn't be so ridiculously expensive that basically nobody can afford them. Thanks crypto currency mining...

    The thing I'm worried about is the lack of Gorilla Glass on the Thinkpad. What good is it to have a super durable chassis if the screen breaks?

    I want to know if all kind of monitor options from x1 yoga are having reflective monitor ... It bothers me a lot

    • @7Write4This9Heart7
      @7Write4This9Heart7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They all are reflective, yes, but they also have an 'antiglare' coating, so it's not as reflective as, say, the Surface in this vid. You can always buy a matte screen protector later?

    I kind of wish that the surface book 2 didn't have a detachable screen and rather a 2-in-1 system like the HP Spectre x360.
    I'm kinda scared that if I buy this laptop, I'll lose the base and all the power that comes with it. If it had a x360 type of hinge, it would be my perfect laptop. Thunderbolt 3 would also be nice but alas, no device can be perfect. 😔

    3:2 aspect ratio of the Surface screen is BIG plus. So big that all other technical specs are less important for me.

    How does the surface book 2 compare to the vaio canvas z in terms of power? I do lots of 4k video editing and moderate after effects work and was thinking of upgrading

    • @mobiletechreview
      @mobiletechreview  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surface Book 2 has massively more powerful graphics, but the Vaio has a little better CPU performance.

    The only thing missing for the surface book 2 is the the stand like the Surface Pro. If it does in the future, then it's almost the perfect laptop 2-in-1 and can be called Surface Book Pro? ;-)

    The only problem that i have with the surfacebook is that its not lap friendly, its more of a desk thing
