    I remember this song came out in 1981 when MTv first started & this video being played over and over and over as they didn't have that many videos at the start. Since I love The Who, I was plenty happy.

      Me too! Got a lot of Pete’s “Let My Love Open The Door” at that time on MTV as well, which I also love. This is a great track that I think gets criminally overlooked.

    Kenny Jones - legend! He played drums for the small faces as well as the Faces. He played the drums on the Rolling stones "it's only rock 'n' roll" and he played for the Who. Oh, and he played at Live Aid.

    Kenney Jones had big shoes to fill, coming into an established band and trying to replace Keith Moon.
    This is a great Who song. Roger Daltrey leading the way with exceptional vocals with harmonies with Townshend.
    The tempo so upbeat and catchy. The instruments are all wonderfully The Who. It was their last single to make the Billboard Top 100's in England. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Daniel.

      I was aware of The Who's '60s and early '70s hits, but this one just jumped out and grabbed me as a teenager. Plus I've always thought it sounded very similar to Townshend's "Let My Love Open the Door". Maybe it's just that Townshend wrote both, but it also could be that they also are from the same period of time (he recorded Empty Glass late '79 to early '80 while Face Dances was recorded the last half of '80). Makes me wonder if he had "You Better, You Bet" for his solo album but decided it would work better as a Who song. 🤔

    This is the shorter single version, I prefer the longer album version. This album came out in '81 when I was living in England so I got to see them on that tour, my 1st rock concert ever. Daltrey is deadly with that microphone, he put out a lamp 20 feet above the stage that night.

    Solidly post-Keith song; I believe the drummer at this point was Kenny Jones. When the Who started touring again in the '90s they picked up Zak Starkey (fun fact: Ringo Starr's son!) as their drummer, and he lives up to Keith's legacy.
    My parents semi-jokingly hold this up as 'their song,' which I think has more to do with my mom's first marriage than their (considerably more successful) one.

    • @romeosyne

      He was way better than ok...he could keep metronomic time and create a grooving drum track. I also admire Moon though. Both are legends in my book! No aggression intended, this is what makes music great, the debates, the back-and-forth...you know. Cheers to all, we are all tuned in to some great music!

    The Who were famous for sometimes hating each other. There was an incident where Pete Townshend

    Was young when this was out, didn't understand the sentiment, but the sound and energy impacted me.. spring '81? Disappeared from the radiowaves too quick. Always LOVED the drums, regardless that folks expect something "more" if it was Keith Moon.

  • @jonathanmurphy3141
    @jonathanmurphy3141 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    After Keith's death, they invited Kenny Jones to drum, from The Small Faces/The Faces. He is a fine drummer -but Roger didn't feel that he fit the band after a while. Keith, with his AD-HD was more erratic and innovative in his drum rhythm -Kenny was more traditional. This album "Face Dances" had several quality tunes -check out "Another tricky Day" which was filmed in the same way, monochrome. The next album with Kenny, 'It's Hard" has a gem or two, but not really a solid effort -The Who broke up after that tour in 1983,...to do various reunions, and later recordings up until now. "You better you bet" they do play on tours today.

      "The Quiet One" my a$$, that man thundered like nobody else. He was more deserving of his other nickname "The Ox". The great thing about The Who is that individually and as a band, nobody sounded like them. John's bass was unique, Pete's lead guitar and lyrics are unique, Roger's voice is absolutely unique and Keith Moon was from the moon. 😂

    Jones and Entwistle make a great rhythm section. The Ox is the greatest of all bassists, and Jones filled in admirably for Keith. Moon was a madman on the drums; Jones was more precise.
