I love this number. It sounds like how a relationship between a man and a woman would be in real life. It's not the typical fluffy love song. This is about sex, adult love, conflict, and reconciliation. One of my favorite Who numbers.

Hey Daniel, Now that you've moved into 80's 'Who' I just got to recommend one of their most awesome tracks from, I believe the following album from This one.
It's a very cool rocker called 'Eminence Front' - Such a killer video too, it's performed live at a sound check, prior to a gig later that night. I really think you'll dig it. ✌️

Love it. I like how Townsend was always messing with synth sequencing, starting with the Who's Next stuff. I saw them as a teenager in 1989, despite being past their prime... It was epic for me and all my friends.

The Who and The Kinks are the 2 older British bands that punks of the late '70s didn't touch, they'd always been punk.
This song means a lot to me because I was stationed in the UK when the album came out and my very 1st concert was seeing them on this tour. It's a solid album ("Face Dances") but I thought the follow-up "It's Hard" was even better. The single from that album was 'Athena' (and later 'Eminence Front') which is very similar to 'You Better You Bet', loads of great lyrics, catchy tune. I missed seeing Keith Moon but Jones was more than competent, a veteran of The Faces. Daltrey said he didn't want a Keith Moon type of drummer because he didn't want to forget mid-concert that Keith was gone and turn around to find him not there.

Great song! I've recommended this before, "Eminence Front". Also "Who Are You", "Long Live Rock". "A Quick One, While He's Away" is pre-Tommy and tells a story, sort of a test run for Tommy. It's performed live at the Rolling Stones' "Rock and Roll Circus" that brought the house down.

One of my faves from the later Who. Backtrack to the summer of 1974 and I am in my bedroom on the second floor of the apartment building I lived in back in New Jersey. My friend Albert yells up at my window that faces the street and I open it to look down and say “what”? This is our social media back in those days…and actual telephones. He says what are you doing tonight, I have an extra ticket to The Who at the Garden, wanna go? Sure, I yell down, get dressed, and we head off to the city. This is Madison Square Garden in NYC, by the way. We are driving over from West Orange and I spill the hash in the bench seat of the car on the way over. Lol! Tickets were probably six bucks for that show, crazy cheap by today’s standards, but that is how we got to see so many great groups back then…it was called affording a ticket. But, I digress. That was how I got to see The Who and they kicked ass and yes, Pete busted up shit…I was fixated on Roger…so hot back then. I was able to feast on the legend that is Keith Moon. Fast forward to 2010 and being in the front rows of an Eric Clapton show with Roger Daltrey opening for him and singing Who songs…he was just as good as back in 1974. As an aside, Clapton was already becoming a crabby old man and was lackluster. Roger saved the price of admission that night. I think my concert is on TH-cam, the wonderful time capsule that it is and also, Golden Earring opened that 1974 show. I enjoy seeing you discover so much of the music of my generation, baby boomer, and wish some folks would stop giving us such a bad rap…we were SOOOO cool back when WE were young. LOL 😎

The 80's Who. Like YES, a seamless transition to a new decade, and to an entire new generation to appreciate their rock virtuosity. To think, at this point, The Who were already close to beginning a third decade of music. "Eminence Front", better, harder and full of enjoyable riffs.

The Who is one of my top five bands of all time. Having said that, I think it was Ray Davies and the Kinks who best acclimated to the 1980s.

@@mikephalen3162 The Who maintained their legendary status in the 80's, while The Kinks rose to it with their stellar 80's work. Not diminishing The Kinks at all, but I've always thought of The Who at the pantheon of classic rock.

I saw The Who live in the early eighties for their “farewell concert “. I think they played this song? It’s a good song but pales in comparison to the early stuff.
I recommend a Pete Townshend track from the album Rough Mix…Street in the City (extremely good but quite cynical and bittersweet).

"It's Your Turn" from The Who's 1982 "It's Hard" album is a John Entwhistle composition challenging up-and-coming bands to ride the tiger of rock-n-roll fame and see if they can survive it. He describes the dangers pretty graphically, and the tune is pretty killer. Worth your time, I'd say.

In the early 80s, Pete Townsend was writing some very good pop songs - this is one of them. Another one you should check out is "Slit Skirts" from Pete's solo stuff.

A forgotten name from 60's music--Phil Ochs (OAKS)--is definitely worth a reaction or two--if not more. He was a contemporary of Bob Dylan and offered some brutally honest folk music that dealt with things like civil rights (Too Many Martyrs, Here's to the State of Mississippi), free speech (I'm Gonna Say It Now), anti-war anthems (Draft Dodger Rag, I Ain't Marching Anymore). One song of his that's sadly pertinent right now is "Knock on the Door"--about living under dictatorships. He also had a bitterly sarcastic song about people's apathy about getting involved (Outside of a Small Circle of Friends) as well as the poignant "When I'm Gone." Sadly, he had mental issues and ended up committing suicide in 1976, which is a major part of why few seem to recall him.

“Your dog keeps licking my nose”. It may also be fun to go back before Tommy and checkout song like “Substitute” and “Pictures of Lily” or their album “The Who Sell Out”. Great reaction. Maybe check out “Autumn Almanac” by the Kinks or any song from their “Something Else” Album. Great reaction.

My parents call this 'their song,' I think in large part because my mom had a couple disastrous relationships before she started dating my dad. (They even got themed vanity license plates.)
If you haven't listened to all of Who's Next yet, you absolutely should ("The Song Is Over" is the best song on the album, and that is *not* an easy thing to narrow down). Likewise, if you haven't dug into T. Rex yet you absolutely should; they're foundational glam rock. "Cosmic Dancer" is especially good.
Bonus round: If you want some solo Roger Daltrey, "Under a Raging Moon," "After the Fire" and "A Second Out" are all fantastic. He also did a live cover of "Born to Run" where he forgot the first line as they were starting. XD

"Who Are You" is a good song with a fun video of the band and Keith Moon in fine form. While I like quite a few of their later songs I have a preference for their earlier work, eg, "I Can See For Miles". A song Pete Townshend was particularly proud of. It's a great song.

9:14 That album, "Empty Glass" is a masterpiece. Roger Daltrey was upset with Townsend for not making that a Who album, but Pete said that there are songs on there that question masculinity and sexuality that he claimed Roger would never have sung. This is a MUST full album reaction.

Kenney Jones on drums through the 80s; formerly with The Small Faces and Faces, he'd been a friend of The Who from the beginning. Very solid, but without Moon's madness. Sets up an obvious segue for you to check out some Small Faces, like "Tin Soldier" or "All or Nothing"!

Not considered essential Who (first album post-Keith Moon, terrible reviews when it came out, and not really redeemed since) - but personally i like this, it sounds like something that should have been on Townshend's Empty Glass, in fact it's in the same mold as his irresistible Let My Love Open The Door. I'd prefer Townshend's voice on it actually. Maybe that's why it doens't sound "Who like".

I love the word play in the song but was never a fan of the song itself. "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia" spoiled me.
The problem with this, and perhaps most popular music since time immemorial, or 1975, whichever comes first, is that they will play the song ad nauseam, until you are ready to puke out the overdose. They killed The Who, they killed Fleetwood Mac, they killed Genesis...and all by taking their most mediocre songs and forcing them down our ears. For some epic The Who listen to "See Me, Feel Me" and "Love Reign O'er Me".
