What a great song this was! The earmarks of a great band is being to recreate the magic of the studio live on stage. These guys did just that. Impressive!

@@Boatzilla2 For sure. I grew up in a small town on the Mississippi River in the 70's. I lived next door to my three cousins and in the summer we were free from morning til dusk. We would walk the train tracks, go fishing all the time I toted my trusty AM/FM transistor radio listening to the hits of the day. Some days we would stop at the local diner to share some fries and play our favorite songs on the table top Juke Box. It was just about the best childhood a kid could have.

I was walking home from 7th grade, and found a cassette tape lying on the ground. Got it home and put it in my tale player. Never heard of them until that day, but have been a fan since. My friends and I got a kick out of Chicken Train and Commercial Success (which my mom wasn't too happy about after hearing the lyrics, lol. I still have that tape, 32 years later

A reaction request Harri. Most people from the classic Rock era, will remember this Band, that I'm pretty sure were "one hit wonders".
I believe the Band's name was "Stories" and The song was called "Brother Louie." About a white boy bring home a Black gal he had fallen in love with. It's almost like the movie "Guess who's coming to Dinner." It is a great song. Told in "story" fashion, you are riveted listening to the next verse, to see how his parents are going to react to this mixed relationship. It was a huge hit in both the U.S. and Britain. You may have heard it before, but it is such a cool song. Very relevant still today, although, I doubt anyone would have the guts to record it these days. Things were much more laid back in the 70s, than they are these days.
    Thanks Friend

I agree with you , o can hear a hit from the 60’s when u was a child, the 70’s when I was a teen, or the 80’s when I was in my 20’s, and relate it to something in my past , a friend or family member, a school or event, or something. When they say music was our soundtrack in life that’s very true, there was always music playing somewhere.

I agree with manofmanyinterestss in that the LP version is much better in that it has an additional verse at the end: “Everyday in your indigo eyes I watch the sunset but l don’t see it rise. With moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine you take the world but you won’t take the time.”

fun trivia: 'Jackie Blue' was originally a drug-dealer despondent that he had no friends!
100 people knock on his door every day, but not one of them is his friend.
The record label thought that 'Jackie Blue' sounded more like a girls name, so the lyrics got re-worked.
    Best car-radio song ever!

The OMC was a local group from SW Missouri, that made a couple of hits. And that was their top hit from the 1970's. If you weren't from the 1970's or from the Ozarks, then you might might not have heard about them.
They were a southern rock, rock-a-billy type group. The name was uniquely different then other groups from the 70's. But, once you heard their songs, you never forgot them.

According to the book It Shined by Michael Granda, the band name was derived from “Cosmic Corn Cob & His Amazing Ozark Mountain Daredevils”, a name that John Dillon came up with at a Kansas City “naming party” after the band was told that the name they had previously been using, “Family Tree”, was already taken. The band shortened the name because none of the band members at the time wanted to be called “Cosmic Corn Cob”, and they did not want the name to sound similar to the Amazing Rhythm Aces.

Nice selection, Harri. I never thought I would hear this song on a reaction channel. When I was a pre-teen in the early 1970s I used to hear this song regularly on an AM station on my little transistor radio while I was lying in bed late at night. Cool playout that you never heard on the radio. The song brings back great memories. Thanks.

I think this was their most "popular song" along with "If You Wanna Get To Heaven". I don't normally associate OMD with electric guitar, they were more of a bluegrass country band. Lo fi! I haven't seen that video before. I remember the song well from back when I was a kid. The lo fi reminds me somewhat of how pop music sounded on an AM transistor radio back then. The improvisational send out was a nice touch, especially the subtle wah-wah there at the very end. The studio recording captures a mystery vibe this live version lacks. I hear the influence on Phil Collins too, although perhaps reflected more in his work with Genesis in songs like "Misunderstanding" or "That's All".

Super sounding song off the album It'll Shine When It Shines" released as a single in February 1975. The week of May 17, 1975 the song was number 3 on Billboards Hot 100. Jackie Blue is one of those songs that defines my life and memories back during that time. Another song I remember by the group was "If You Wanna Get To Heaven". Their genre is American Southern Rock/ country rock band out of Springfield, Missouri.
