    This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV and the Audi Q4 e-tron electric crossover. These two electric SUVs are based on the same platform, Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle platform. The emphasis is on maximizing space, range, comfort and convenience. The result is a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs and a roomier, more functional cabin. There really isn’t much of a difference between the ID. 4 and Q4 in terms of passenger space except in a few areas. Both have about the same front row legroom; the VW ID.4 has a little bit more second row legroom but it’s the cargo capacity where you will find the biggest difference. The Volkswagen ID.4 has the most space behind the second row at 30.3 cubic feet vs. the Audi Q4 at 24.8 cubic feet. Overall cargo space goes to the ID.4 getting 64.2 cubic feet and the Audi 53.1.The Audi Q4 e-tron 50 and the ID.4 AWD have 295 horsepower and an 82 kWh battery. The ID.4 offers a little more range at 410 km/255 miles, the Q4 388 km/236 miles of range. In Canada, both the Q4 and ID.4 qualify for the Federal EV rebate of $5,000 and incentives in participating provinces. In the US, the 2023 Q4 e-tron does not qualify for a tax credit but the 2023 ID.4 does as it is now built at the Chattanooga plant. In Canada, the Q4 starts at $59,950 CAD and the ID.4 AWD $52,995 CAD. For this price, you get more standard features in the Q4 like the panoramic sunroof, power tailgate and a power driver seat. Add the ID.4 statement package for $4,700 CAD to get those extra features and the panoramic fixed glass roof is an extra $1,250. In the US, the Q4 starts at $53,800 USD, Premium Plus $60,400 USD, Prestige $61,900 USD. The ID.4 AWD $46,295 USD, Pro S $51,295 USD, Pro S Plus $53,745 USD.
    The Q4 base trim plus the convenience package for $1800 USD or the Premium Plus trim offer similar features to the ID.4 Pro S.

    Guys great job…living in the USA my wife and I have owned 4 Audi Q5’s in the last 10 yrs. Now we have decided that it is time to go electric for one of our cars. The EV6 dealer experience was horrifying. The Audi experience was wonderful and the VW experience was fair. After looking at the Q4 which has leather interior and moon roof that opens and lots of physical bottoms for H.S AC and heating it was in the lead. The VW ID to our surprise won out. The ID4 Was more comfortable. The Audi Q4 50 Quattro Premium Plus with Tech package came to over $62,000.00 the ID 4 AWD Pro S came to under $52,000.00 both were 2022. Zack is right it does come down to the spread sheet formula. The Audi was not worth $10,000.00 more. It seems that if there were under a $3,000. difference we might have gone Audi. Not sure… keep up the great reviews.

    I'm for the simplicity of the ID.4! The complaints I hear in this video about some of the ID.4 features I'm totally fine with like the windows and the shifter. I think it could be a generational preference on a lot of things and that's fine. The ID.4 is already criticized heavily when compared to other competitive EV makes/models at this price level for their charging setup being too slow; so hearing that the Q4 is even slower, AND with less range, AND with less torque boggles my mind for a luxury brand. It was once the innovative vehicle for electric (outside of Tesla) but is now beaten and lags compared to other EV'S. IMO, the Q4 is already outdated in the motor and battery sector but if the shiny exterior and physical buttons is what appeals someone, then go for it.

    The 2023 ID4 is made in TN and until Dec 31 2022 if bought is eligible for the full 7.5k federal tax credit vs the Q4 which is NOT eligible: this is in the USA. Availability for the ID4 is pretty good in USA with dealers having some order cancellations and selling at MSRP. So in USA the price gap might be as much as 15k…
    In Canada both are eligible not the Q4 Sportback… but good luck finding one until a year… with all the tax credits and the supply focused on the USA, Canada has been left out….

    Happy with the ID.4 AWD S.Package after 5 months of ownership. The semi minimalistic interior is a perfect balance. Infotainment systems is easy to use after a few weeks driving the vehicle. I personally like the look of the ID.4 than the Q4. The door handles on the ID.4 is also sleek and easy to open.

    Good comparison! Given the small price difference the Q4 seems to make the most sense, however standard safety features would be the deciding factor. If lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and fwd/aft collision braking are not included as standard with the Audi, then it would be the ID4.

    I have a friend that ordered the ID4 with AWD & the statement package. He noticed the lower trims of the Q4 are about the same price. It has a nicer interior, real buttons, a better infotainment system (more intuitive & likely with less bugs) and probably a higher resale value. He changed his order to the Q4. On the other hand, the ID4 is the better fit if affordability matters to you and you don't plan on getting the statement package.

    All things being basically equal, I would probably lean towards the Audi. My illogical reasoning is based on the fact that ever since my first experience with the infamously problematic Audi 5000S Turbo Avant… I absolutely loved them.. those 5000s (parents drove a boring, by comparison, ‘83 MB Diesel (W126 -S-class)). The Audi looked like it was from the future, with it’s fancy AWD Quattro system and that aerodynamic shape (and the Avant, being ‘almost’ an Estate).
    But I’ve never owned an Audi. So because I’ve had a few VW’s, I’d lean towards the Audi. Hardly the best logic perhaps, but at least this new Audi would be less problematic than me buying a used Allroad, an RS6 or worse… a well used A8/S8 (which I’ve come too close to doing, twice!). Plus… I’ve always loved the Auto Union’s choice of four rings, as their brand badging. That and … let’s not forget their smartly put together interiors. Thanks for another comparison video.

    Great review, I wish I’d seen it when it first came out. We have had an ID4 on order since December of 2021 and it’s due to arrive by the end of May 2023. It was built in Chattanooga, rather than Germany. We ordered it with the heat pump, but we’re advised a few weeks ago that, due to supply chain problems, VW is no longer able to offer the heat pump.
    We still like the ID4 and are sticking with it, but I think that after seeing your review, if we seen it when it first came out, we might have switched to the Audi at one of the points that VW has given us to cancel our order over the past year and a half.

    In the US, the price difference is actually **much** more significant. I can't find a Q4 under 60k to save my life, most are 65k. Meanwhile, the ID 4 is readily available at 52k, and qualifies for 7500 off. ID4 much better buy in the US

    • @rajatsoni6525
      @rajatsoni6525 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 100% correct, everyone is completely off on the price. The Audi's are way more expensive and our Audi dealer is slapping at $5k markup on every model. So the price comparison is far more in favor of the VW then is portrayed in the quotes given in the video.

  • @acchaladka

  • @rajatsoni6525
    @rajatsoni6525 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think one thing missing from this is that the price is WAY different than what you are saying. So the Pro S+ which we have on order is 54k USD, The Audi eTron 50 that we are getting quoted is 64k USD + a 5k dealer markup for 69k USD. That is a 15K difference in cost and the eTron has less in every spec category except the audio (the VW audio system is quite a bit less quality than the eTron but not worth 15k). At the end of the day I think the eTron misses for me. It's too dated in and too close to the old Q5, it's not bringing a real EV design aesthetic and is too similar to gas powered cars. The rear looks like a RAV4 or a Venza, really disappointing. So I am sticking with our ID4 order and feel it really outpaces the eTron in all departments. But I like minimalism and unfussy design.

    I've seen 1 ID4 in downtown Toronto and 1 Q4. The OEMs are intentionally avoiding deliveries to Canada imo. They make more by sending them anywhere but here. The wait times are beyond stupid. 18 months. You are either a EV fanatic or you aren't. And I think you have to really want a BEV to put up with the extra pain in the butts to buy one. The charging rates at the fast chargers have gone up a lot too. Meh, I think I'd get a V60 wagon PHEV or a NX PHEV which have a good in city range now and then you don't have to worry about long distances. They get the 5k gov't discount as well.
