It makes no sense to want to sit inside a cheap, dull cabin produced by cost accountants like Tesla when you can sit inside an Audi
I love audi But the q4 is so overpriced and feels so cheap inside.

Had the Model Y. Its aggressive unadjustable regen launched me into a snowy ditch full of boulders.
Now have the Q4 e-tron with Quattro. Got it for the same price as MY. WORLD of difference. It safe, there’s buttons, luxurious, Sonos speakers, a damn sunroof 😂, not scared the steering wheel will come off etc.
Audi has been an auto maker for a while. Tesla? Should’ve asked myself that to begin with

Not everyone likes Teslas. Audi has a very loyal customer base, and this will sell well in Europe.
I won't pay over 50k € for a car with rear drum brakes. And I say this as an Audi A5 owner which was genuinely interested in the etron Q4 until I saw reviews of the first version showcasing that and other problems.
@@Buran01 Lots of EVs have rear drum brakes deliberately as they are better suited to the car. The brakes do not get much use due to the regen and discs would corrode and seize, seems wrong ,but there is a reason.
@@johndoyle4723 That seems right for a Dacia, but at some price tags things that won't cut. The thing is that everyone knowns that the Golf 8 had massive quality cuts (in things like hard plastic, bad seats, tactile haptic buttons instead of mechanical ones... ) despite a rise in price, and the Q4 is built in the same platform as the ID3/ID4 which share similar cost cuts.
Agreed Tesla build quality is a nightmare
This video is a bit out of date already in the sense that (in Germany at least) you often find top speced Q4 etron at the same price (or lower!) Than à MY LR. We're talking second hand, ex company cars. There's quite a bit of those now.
I might still go MY but a lot of them don't have USS anymore which is a big no no. Especially before a MY refresh. Don't want to be stuck with the worst MY generation.
So I might actually go for one of these top Q4 40.
What it has that the Model Y and Ioniq 5 don't is traditional styling and traditional luxury. It will appeal to a segment of the market that those other cars don't appeal to.

I've got to say, Sam, that I don't follow some of your comparisons between vehicles. A Tesla Model 3 or Y is not as high-end of a car as an Audi, so you'd expect there to be a price difference between them. You wouldn't compare two ICE vehicles based upon their range as the most important criteria. Tesla's engineering and their ability to quickly drive down costs of EVs is nothing short of amazing, but that doesn't mean buyers don't want more than their vehicles offer.
For people interested in long-distance driving with their EV, the supercharger network is what's most compelling about a Tesla. Hassle-free compared to the third-party charging companies.
EV's that make noise when driving are mandatory in Europe. It's a pedestrian safety measure. If you can hear it coming you are less likely to walk out in front of it when crossing the road.
IF they hear it, the pedestrians don't even hear buses, trams or trains as they keep walking into them... It could at least sound like a "normal" car.
We leased a Q4 today. My wife has a some permanent neck issues that make her more sensitive to road feel than the average bear. The Tesla Y was a complete non-starter. The Hyundai head rest did not work well enough for her to do a test drive. VW ID 4 was a solid no. Volvo was a yes. The 2024 Q4 and 2022 Etron were a yeeesssss. We went with the Q4 for a number of reasons. Suspension. Seat design. Seat materials. These things all mattered. It doesn't matter how great the battery etc. are if I can't get her to buy it.
i have the id.4 and the comfort of the chassis and the car itself is great. not a sports car by any means but a really mice car to drive
How is it over humps? And potholes?
The battery protection is simply a function within the software that automatically will limit the charging to 80% which is the recommendation for all pre lfp battery EV’s to extend battery life unless the owner switches it off.
This is only a function which can be switched off as charging to 100% will on occasion be required. It is not a detrimental function it is merely an extra function available on VWG MEB platform cars.
All EVs today should have LFP batteries that you can charge to 100% without degradation and haul significantly less weight around compared to lithium ion where you're only supposed to charge to 80-90%.
You'll get a bit less range, but 90% of the people will still have plenty of range.
You must have failed easy maths at school. LFP batteries are less energy dense by a significant margin compared to Li NCA or Li NMC (38-47%). Energy non availability in Li NCA and Li NMC batteries is 90/10 or 80/10 depending on the manufacturers recommendations. Therefore the LFP batteries can NEVER save battery mass. Energy availability wrt battery mass, range and charge time is ALWAYS an issue with BEV and the main reason why ppl who move large amounts of goods/passengers or travel long distances will never go EV until its as good as diesel.
The reason you need to charge LFP to 100% is that otherwise the BMS has a hard time to calculate the real energy stored, due to lower cell voltage.If you do not charge to 100% regularl, you could run empty at 10% for example. You will see about the same battery degradation as NMC … lets wait for the real LFP data, degradation will be just a little better than NMC, but not by much. Why, calendar aging is the main degradation part … so yes it can handle more charges before charge degradation kicks in, but int the end there is not much difference.

A little correction Sam : it’s possible to charge 100% if wished
Q4 is not a conpetitor of the iX. For this you would consider the Q8 e-tron.
In Denmark it comes with the Sonos audio without paying a premium, and that is a big difference from the other EV’s.

Hi, I have seen loads of videos about q4 & most people speak very high about the audi q4, and these models 45 & 55 are most improved. Have you seen how much you people have lost in deprecation of those cars you recommended, I feel you have something against Audi. You are very informative & and I felt you weren't very neutral. Audi all the way, never been disappointed from audi cars 5th Audi owned from new, The best car manufacturer.
By the way, adaptive cruises countrol is standard. I'm not sure if it is the same in the US.

it is std in US with thr newer models from 2024. the chip shortage had a role to play in this feature being absent in many of earlier Audi models , including the ICE cars.

The compactness of the Q4 e-tron is a strong selling point if you have narrow roads like we have in the UK. The q4 also offers the LED matrix headlights which are unique. If this was car was cheaper I would already have one.
Great review. I own the 2021 etron and my Audi dealer called me to make an offer to buy my etron. I wondered why they want to buy my car. Probably to get me to buy the new q4 etron. That’s not going to happen. In short, I love my etron. There are a few things I don’t like, but I’m satisfied. I purchased used also.
I had a loaner and was very impressed. I only buy Audis and Porsches. The big advantage is the battery will never need replacement and the dealers can repair and change cells. Not as fast as my other cars but enough power with the awd.

You mentioned the Q4 range improved to 349 miles per charge. You also mentioned that Audi limits the charging to 80%. Does that mean you get 349 miles at 80% SOC? Thank you
Latest research suggest charging only from 10-36% to get maximum battery life (about 18 years). Although the data is moderated to recommend charging levels to be kept between 30-70% for realistic use.
Audi is a luxury car brand so you expect them to be expensive. Their ICE cars are more expensive than other ICE cars. I can’t afford one, but if people want it and can afford it then go for it. I would rather people drove EVs than ICE cars.
Nearly bought one in 2021 in UK. Problem was they were quoting 6 months delivery and it kept moving back and back so cancelled. Nice car but it’s a bit bland and still expensive.
You should be comparing the regular Audi E-tron (or Audi Q8 E-Tron) for closest comparable sizes to the Model Y.

Audi blows. I own an A7. Nothing but issues. My MX I’ve owned since 2016 is mind numbingly good. No a single issue in nearly 8 years. I have never owned a car this long and my wife still loves it!
Shows how little can go wrong and break down or need replacement on an EV.
@@gregp.7148 bingo. Before owning this MX I never expected to own it this long and certainly thought it was going to be expensive to fix. I thought, well… if I can afford to have a BMW worked on by the dealership a Tesla should be on par with maintenance. Boy was I wrong. I will always own a tesla and when my boys are old enough they I will be putting them in the safest cars in the world. Protect my investment, my family.
I’ve owned a Q5 for ten years, not a single issue in all that time…
Just for information: there is no 80% charge restriction, you can decide to what level you want to recharge.

Optimized thermal management on the motor should mean less heat energy is produced in the motor for the same amount of electricity fed to it, which should kick back to range improvements
You are wrong about the BMW iX being in the same segment. The Q6 is in the same segment as the BMW.

I looked at this car a year ago when it first came to the states. I was all excited until I saw it in person and drove it.
This car is Unfinished - look under the bonnet. There is no storage its just a mess of wires and hvac tubes lines (@6:00 same shite). And they cheaped out and didn't even install a pair of $30 struts to hold up the bonnet. Its a prop rod. WTH?
No Qi wireless charging, still has buttons ALL OVER for various things. I mean all of the audio playing/tuning is on the screen but to turn the volume up you have to reach across the shifter to the center console to turn it up. Really?
As to power its slow. You have to hit a "overboost" mode to tap into the full power and it only lasts 30 seconds.
My 2016 BMW i3 Rex is 5X better and its based on 12YO technology.

I love the way the car looks and the new upgrades are great. WHY is there such a huge difference in charging speed between the lower model and the rest? This makes no sense. The charging speed should be 175kw across all versions.
They're trying to justify the price difference. Marketing guys at work...but it doesn't really matter because the 10-80% charging time is actually identical thanks to a flater profile on the 135kW version...again just marketing tricks.
A larger battery can be charged quicker. Just physics (or chemistry?)…
Only the AWD versions got new battery chemistry and updated controlllers. Same thing across all cars built on the MEB platform.

Looks ID.4 system and batt with new clothes, w/350KW , you can get 80% in 28min. and a lot of new trim. They have to improve ion weight efficiencies. The motors got a significant boost, who makes to the front motor (Magna) ? Would someone knows ? Kodos on range.
Its identical to id4 and skoda, but get used to that , as all 14 Stellantis brands will be identical too

Improved yes but still disappointing relative to the value you get from Tesla. Slow charging, slightly less range and way less acceleration. Just goes to show how far out in front Tesla really is
Being an EX bmw mechanic of 20+ yrs I wouldn’t believe the hype, they use smoke and mirrors and build cars the average guy would struggle to repair, built in obsolescence! 😮

Charges in 20 minutes on a 350 electrify America charger and I do 60 miles a day and I only charge up to 90% as it will keep going at 1:44 then 87% it starts to drop and slow down that is a 2019

Sam nice Review, I am twitching between Q4etron and Volvo XC40 I was a little concerned about the 80% charge restriction there was something similar on the Volvo at 90% and when the charge is at 10% the Volvo max output is 40 mph! Interesting that the 80% restriction can be turned off. I am sorry Tesla really?!! (not giving Elon Musk one dollar!) Not feeling the Ionic 5 strange looks? like it wants too be stealth car with all those strange angles! Audi and Volvo just look far better 🙂

It is a joke to compare the inside of a Tesla with the inside of my Mercedes. I would not have that Tesla cabin in my garden shed . Cheap and nasty
I used to think that too, but while Tesla used to be years ahead of the competition, they just gave that away. Its taken way too much time and they are still stuck with just 4 models. Just 4 models without much evolution. European car makers already lost that competition, but now, a few years later, the classic German brands are just making better cars, nicer looks, better interior, more refined driving and with similar tech as a Tesla. Tesla will not survive if they can only compete by lowering prices. They have to come up with something new quickly. Volkswagen, the company that is supposed to be in a real crisis, is actually fixing the problems they had (mostly software) and the press that was so negative about every new MEB model is now praising these upgraded models. Volkswagen already knows how to build cars. If they also get grip on the software part it will be very difficult for Tesla to compete, at least in Europe.
80% battery protect feature was already on the old model! All to does is reset to max 80% charge if you opt to push it to 100% (after that charging cycle). You can turn it off in the car settings if you don't like it.

6.7 seconds is slow. All Tesla vehicles go faster than that.
Lots of people don't care about super fast acceleration. It's a feature they never use.

I have had the Q4 for a year and 25K miles. SUV shape not sportback. I am looking at replacing next year. It has outperformed its WLTP specs and from a ride and driving perspective is a great car. Cold weather charging is useless and the Audi software crashes on a regular basis so I won’t be buying Audi next year. The model Y is attractive but the ride is not good enough and the boot a big compromise. So not getting that either

@@southparklion it’s a great size but a smaller size and better shape makes the space more useable. A squarer shape is necessary for our purposes. I have two large dogs (plus wheelchair) to transport. The Y is a great car, but unfortunately there are better (albeit not as efficient) cars for my needs.

I wouldn't buy an EV with battery that has restricted charging. It's a half ready product.
There are two Q4 models. The one car wow video was the one with the coupe style roof and smaller boot. The standard one is better looking and has a larger boot.

I’ve been several times in a Tesla and I feel inside like everything is a toy, it looks like it was designed by wish or Temu 😉
No ioniq 5 or EV6 can charge at 350kw, 240 is the max. But they are very good due to the charging curve. Which Tesla sucks at. In any case this Audi is far over my price range and for most of the normal people.
There are lots of people reporting real world charge times 10 to 80% in under 20 minutes. But believe what you want.
Hyundai is supposed to buy back my Ioniq 5 and I’m searching for what to get as a replacement. Q4 etron is compelling as it’s similar in some ways but with potentially better reliability and dealership experience. At least in the US Hyundai dealers are… mostly garbage.
There is far to little space in the trunk compared to Model Y.
But it has suspension not the shoddy setup of the Y 😂
Steel underpowered, 0 to 60 times still too slow? Interior doesn't have vented seats or massage seats for a luxury car need those items. Needs faster charging rate

The so-called big three European premium car makers really needs to rethink their strategy and forget about the baggage that came with petrol cars. Look, they competing with electric car makers now, then please compete, don’t bring out specs and prices that compared to Old petrol cars, I mean would you compare an iPhone With a Nokia? These are different products in different eras. Their so-called premium brand is tarnished, as a 30 year European car buyer, I’m losing my patience, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. It’s only a matter of a few years until I (and many buyers I’m sure ) need to change to an EV, and if by that time they don’t wake up? I’m buying a Tesla or BYD.

EV's have been around longer than gas powered ICE vehicles. Whats changed? Not much really. Battery, electric motors, wheel at each corner and one to steer the vehicle.

The only decent EVs from the VW group are from Porsche (the Taycan and the upcoming Macan) and from Skoda (the Eniaq). Nothing else. All the rest is either too expensive in its segment, or crap... or both.
The interior is waaaay too complicated…yikes.

I still don’t know why Audi exists in VWs portfolio. Low end/mainstream= VW. High end = Porsche. Where does Audi sit? They’re literally for VW customers who aren’t smart buyers. There isn’t a car they make that beats or equals their competition. Would you buy a gussied up Audi over a BMW or Benz that doesn’t come from a VW Tiguan. At least u don’t get a cheap platform upsold by $10k+. They should be more compared to Acura and Infiniti and Volvo.
Not impressed. Its not just about the car. Its about the whole process from buying to servicing, to upgrading if desired. As a whole this is just a bad buy when there is a clear alternative that is just better. Sorry not sorry.

Range range range. We're still at peak range with EV's. There seems to be little to no progress and the years are ticking. To top it off there's also peak battery and no alternative sources to find production materials. This may very well be the downfall of the EV - yet again. William Morrison, who developed the very first EV back in in 1890-91, must be smirking in his grave. EV's have come and gone for well over 100 years now, we always return to fossil fuel.
