    Here in Germany, there are often problems with the distance sensors on the ID.4s when a frame that is too wide (with advertising from the dealership) is installed on the front license plate as a base. This then protrudes into the sensors and confuses the system. Unfortunately, most dealerships are unaware of the problem and are looking for hardware and software issues. Also, if different license plate formats are used in the US, this could be the reason for the sensor problems.

    So many cool things happening in this video. Kyle is much more gentle than I have seen him before. McKayla is really highly in tune with the electric car world than I would have thought and she really can communicate what she feels about this car. On the negative side, she has knocked out the ID4 and also this Toyota for me. She is so believable in her experiences and interpretations of the cars functions, feels, and experience. I really liked this video a lot and thank you for all the opinions 👍👍👍

    In the Netherlands the bz4x and id4 were tested recently by carmagazine. The bz4x won...better build, better charging, better warranty, much more comfortable and same range, 450km. Bz4x also more affordable.... . The sister model Solterra was tested against Audi q4 etron. The Solterra was the far better car. Good range considering the far smaller battery pack, far more efficient ev motors, far better warranty, more comfortable, better charging etc etc etc.

    It's weird, but the BZ is growing on me... I think the ID.4 looks better on camera, but in person, I think I prefer the BZ - it actually looks kind of special in person whereas the ID.4 looks a bit cheap. And, the ID.4 has the rising belt line, which I think is a look that's played out. I'm not sure I'd be happy with the ID.4 as a road tripper, so comparing both as commuters the charging and range differences might not matter. And, I think the BZ might look better as it ages.

      I love ID.4 tech when it stops at traffic light on autopilot, but for family car BZ4x space for rear passengers and unique wheel+dash placement for my short arms and long legs is perfect, so these 2 thing is win win for me way ahead. And design in my taste Bz4x looks way better than ID.4. So Bz4x comfort wins against practicality and tech of id4.

  • @RiotSmurf
    @RiotSmurf ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Describing the id.4 interior as "A bit more premium" is exactly right. That driving seat area looks UGLY. Genuinely would not buy it because of that area. The interior doesn't seem to match itself at all(in my opinion) where the id.4 tried a full theme. Am a big fan of putting the instrument cluster on the steering like the id.4 so when it is adjusted it is in the same position for anyone who drives it.

    • @JanHenrik541
      @JanHenrik541 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having the instrument cluster closer to the wind screen is very comfortable once the seating and steering is adjusted to your liking on the BZ4X. But when I test drove ID.4 and ID.5 I didn’t think about adjusting anything. VW nailed it with a lot of the ergonometric stuff.

    I like that you have a normal EV person give a review. You can tell McKayla is trying to be polite in her opinion of the BZ4X. To be honest she only drove it a short time compared to how long she had her ID4. I wonder if her opinion would change if she had it for a week or so.

    Would love to see your full review. Nice to hear from McKayla. As for the car we just purchased a couple for work. While I won't be road tripping in the work vehicle, I did hear that there are some additional DC fast charging limits. For example I have heard that Toyota limits charging to 2XFull Charge limit per day and anything after that would be reduced to Level 2 charge speeds. That would be horrible for long road trips. Please test this out.

    • @TodDetre

      We have a bz4x and can confirm that it has this DCFC limit. I learned it the hard way when I had to take the car from Maine to Baltimore and it tool me 23 hours. We're currently trying to lemon law the bz4x because we were never told about this limit and we occasionally need to take it on road trips and we just can't with it.

    • @davidnicholson6901
      @davidnicholson6901 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had my Solterra (essentially the same as the B4z) upgraded in June. Now, the percentage charge is displayed on the console, the decreased range associated with the AC has been adjusted to a more realistic value, DC charging on road trips is now 3.86 (a significant improvement over the former 2 times) and the range improved by releasing some range reserved in the buffer. An advantage compared with the ID 4 is the heat pump in the Solterra. Unfortunately, like the ID 4 preconditioning is lacking. I understand that this will remedied in later versions. I have driven the Solterra on two road trips. Went great (including DC charging). All in all we are satisfied with the Solterra. We find that the full charge delivers ca 420 km of range. Not so impressive but nevertheless not a problem on road trips since the number of charges is now ca 4 time in a 24 hour period. I notte that Kyle does not like the material covering the dashboard. This of course is a matter of taste; I like it mainly because it breaks up the plastic parts of the interior. Will need to vacuum it though.

  • @wzDH106
    @wzDH106 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'd probably stick with our ID4. The cabin is comfortable, minimalistic and spacious. Software needs work, but comfort gives it the edge.
    What surprised me, after recently sitting in a Model Y, was just how spacious the ID4 cabin felt. The Y gave me an impression of being in a smaller vehicle, although physical dimensions favor the Y, I had to jump into the Model X, sitting across the room, to regain that comfort level of the ID4. I'd argue perceived *interior* size of the ID4 sits between the Y and X.

    • @saeedhossain6099
      @saeedhossain6099 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in-laws have a Y, we have an ID4, the main use with the Y and it fleeing claustrophobic is the low roof line, it's in proportion to the hood, but it's very low hood. that and the back hatch slopes down so quickly on the Y, it really hurts the usability of the cargo area.

    USA does not give incentive because its built in Japan, here in canada we get incentive. And don’t make a mistake, Toyota don’t fix things that have not broken, they use charger because they have many Hybrids and Prime using charger with very good results. My experience with Toyota is they build a very good car, and my Prime Rav4 and BZ is just fantastic, I had an ID4 on order until my BZ arrived and lucky for me, I did not have to deal with the battery issue VW had/has. Love my BZ, and have Rav4 Prime for long distance, what a great car this is.

Owning three Toyota cars (1993 and 1999 Lexus SC400 and 2004 Toyota Camry), I so wanted to go Toyota. But the Lexus RZ and Toyota BZ4X were not available in November. I tested several id.4 cars and almost got one, but selected a Mach-e instead. There are some other issues with the bz4x suspension system too, which are not immediately apparent. If you run into a curb, this thing is gonna get messed up badly. I once run my bz4x by a fairly low curb, driving 27 mph, and that knocked the steering column off center. They had to re-alight three wheels, for only one of them touching the curb. I mean seriously! The charging issue is a real problem. It pulls much lower power than any car I happen to park next, and it limits the charging to two times a day, which ruined my first long trip, and made me hate this freaking car.

    You missed two major differences between these two cars: ID4 has a very hard ride, with a stiff suspension that gives a sporty feeling, while Toyota is the opposite, it has a soft suspension that provides comfort. This was evident in two moments in this video: when she braked while backing down because she was not used to the Toyota's movement, and when she commented on how sensitive the ID4's accelerator pedal is. I'm surprised you did not mention this because these two things were what I personally disliked about the VW ID4 when I tried it. Not to mention that ID3 and ID4 were the only cars that made my kid throw up twice, because they did not offer a smooth and comfortable ride. Also, ID4 software is really buggy, it improved with some updates, but Toyota does not have such issues.

    At the beginning of 2018 Navigator production. I discovered that if you backed it up close to a wall and exited the vehicle with the key, the rear hatch would open. I believe it was some bad software that thought you were kicking your leg under the hatch to open it. First time it happened I ran to the back fast enough to stop the hatch with my hand, I thought I must have hit the button in my pocket. Then it happened again while I was holding the key. So I started trying to replicate the problem and it happened everytime you'd exit with the key while backed close to an object. They opened up a ticket with Ford support in service then the problem disappeared a few weeks later with new software.

    You want to know a big issue with the pro S? Mirror position memory. Unless you buy the pro S plus (and it came withe power folding mirrors), you can heat your seat, you can save seat positions, massage your back, but if you have more than one driver, sorry, spend another minute repositioning the mirrors before you start driving.

    It seems that the range for the BZ4X is much shorter than the ID.4. That being said, as an owner of the ID.4, it's a bit frustrating now especially for their current recalls. Those who got the software update along with the 12v battery replacement got lucky as they haven't done it to all of the 2021s. Because right now, all of the 12V battery are on national backorder! And to learn that there's two different 12V batteries for the ID.4. So that means I cannot do the other two battery recalls because of this holdup. There's also a rear door seal recall that is with the vehicle along with Door handle recall that there's still no resolution for it. I do like the car, but I thought the experienced automakers should've done this better than Tesla.

      Yes, most people buy Toyota for their reliability. Toyota has never been the flashiest vehicle in the road or has the best technology. They were at the #1 spot for that main reason.... reliability. Toyota already stated that the slower charging speed was due to maintaining battery health. Charging fast when the battery is cold is very bad for the battery....but what does that matter to people who buy new cars every few years. However, if people are to keep this car for 10 years or more, that extra charging time will be acceptable if they know they won't have to replace their batteries in 10 years.

    Like the non-car people feedback.
    I don't think the BZ4X looks as bad as I thought it did in the early press stuff, but it has been brutally beaten up to the point it is a hard sell now.
    While I like having a display in front of the driver, this layout just looks "wrong". Maybe it is different sitting behind the wheel, but it looks wrong.
    Slow charging, cheaper build quality, small battery and range. No tax break.
    Well the tax break thing can be compensated with a dealer who is willing to wheel and deal. I would much rather get a discount off the price than to mess around with the tax refund.
    I am hearing some of the Hyundai/Kia dealers are getting aggressive with the prices below MSRP to sell cars since they don't get the tax breaks. Frankly I would prefer better prices to the tax breaks.

    Great video as always, my first time commenting although I have watched loads of your content. Quite different to the UK, I currently have a Kona Electric 64kw. Here in the UK we can get cars on a scheme called Motability that is an organisation that supplies cars to disabled folk on a three year lease, all paid through a Government welfare benefit called Disability Living Allowance all costs on the vehicle are covered under the scheme your only outlay is that you have to put fuel, (petrol, diesel or electric), in the car. I'm coming to the end of my lease this year and because I need a car that can tow a small caravan or trailer I need a different car to my Kona. I have considered a few including this Toyota but will be settling for an ID4 Life Pro RWD with the 77kw battery, 286bhp, (210kw), motor. I'm really looking forward to it, I was thinking of going back to an ICE car but because I charge at home and because of the crazy cost of diesel and petrol in the UK, electric is so much cheaper to run. Keep the great videos coming, I really enjoy them as well as our own home grown channels.

    Just ordered my fully loaded ID.4 a couple of days ago. I considered bZ4X, but the "futuristic" design simply doesn't vibe with me, and what killed the car for me was the massive, yet utterly unnecessary central tunnel, that impedes on my right knee space. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find a comfortable position, where my right knee wouldn't dig into the bloody tunnel. Same thing happened with the Enyaq, which was on top of my list, as I think that's the only EV on the market, that looks better than the ID.4.
    This is utterly stupid, as it is a relic from ICE cars with large transmission.
    I was looking forward to Toyota EV, as I own a Toyota currently and am very happy with what reliable and durable, and no maintenance cars those are, But I won't buy a car in which I can't sit comfortably for a longer travel.

    Honest question. When riding by yourself, why do people want to roll the back windows down? I just don't see why the ID.4 windows get so much attention. Yes, it's weird. But I always see reviewers, being the only ones in the car, being like "I don't like this because it's harder." But WHY do you need to?
    I own a 2023 ID.4 and it's not a big deal at all. When I ride by myself I roll my window down and maybe the passenger side for circulation (buttons for both) and never the back. When kids are in the car they roll their own down.
    Maybe a dog owner or parents of an infant where you would constantly use it. Nobody else has a good reason 😂.

      @@irenecheca6575 - Not everyone's kid is an infant (or a dog) that relies on someone else to control the window for them, LOL! I'm a parent and my kids roll down their own windows and when I need to it doesn't make my life any harder to push the Rear "button" before rolling theirs up or down.
      My critique is really pointed just at the reviewers. It's like one reviewer noted it was "different" and they didn't like it, then the other reviewer's saw that video, and (since most don't give long-term reviews) they just jumped on the whiner-bandwagon without giving even a practical example. I get it that it could be annoying for some but I think that's a small majority. The reviewers are hyping it up like it's the majority that hate it. Honestly it's awesome that I can hold down the Rear "button" for a few seconds and then roll ALL windows up or down at the exact same time with one touch!

    Its hilarious to see everyone crapping on the bZ4x on here but then saying how many issues they have had with their vehicle. Toyota didn't rise up to the #1 spot at one point because they were the flashiest or had the "premium" feel car. The main reason was reliability. Charging your battery fast in the winter is very bad for a cold battery. Toyota even stated why the reason they had to limit the speed was for the battery health in the long run. Toyota is being Toyota, playing it safe. However, this is their first since the Rav4 EV and they are playing it a little too safe.

Again Toyota buyers are buying based on reliability not "stuff". Toyota is no longer the affordable and reliable car manufacturer since the chip shortage started. They are pretty expensive now.
