The great thing about this era of music is, there was soo much real talent. Music like this isn't about your race. Its about who you are on the inside. And that resonates with other like minds. Especially when you are tuned into the right frequency.
I remember hearing this song as a kid back in the early 90s. Around 5 years ago I heard it again on Spotify. Remind me of going into New York City with family during this era. Good times.
I hope Jane Child checks out these comments every now and then. We need her to dust off those keyboards and start making the brilliant music again that we know she is still capable of.
That makes two of us. If you do read this Jane greetings from Australia. I've been in radio for over 30 years can't believe any station In Australia didn't give this song airplay when It was released, I'm In between gigs currently but I tell you now that this song will be getting airplay on my new show when the opportunity comes up.
I first came to live in NYC 3 years after this came out. The city was pretty much the same as it was in this video. Times Square was seedy, the Meatpacking district had a lively underground, and the Twin Towers stood tall. Can't help but feel nostalgic listening to these beats and watching the cityscape of that era. 🌆🎶🗽
Yeah, a few years ago this came up in my feed here and it was the first time I had heard it in at least 20yrs. Shame it's not on many people's radar anymore even with it being in GTA5...
One of my all time favorite songs. I remember when this video first hit MTV decades ago and I still think Jane Child had the most awesome look ever for a female pop star; truly unique and unforgettable.
INDEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The hair, the piercings! It's me present day! I was seven when this song came out & I loved it & her edgy style...never imagined I'd be out here with 30+ piercings & box braids! Jane Childs was amazing & so ahead of her time! She was what I used to call a "punk rocker!" I love it!!!!!!!!!
First time ever seeing this video... Mind blowing. She was a visionary, and all i ever knew was that this was a super catchy song from long ago. Heard it playing at a store, and when i looked it up, this was not what i was expecting to see. Whipping her braids better than late 90s Offspring, she could be a high level boss in a video game or a bouncer at a goth club. And if she was, I'd be hanging around.
I view this 89 song (in my own personal opinion) as the last "hurrah" of the iconic 80s synth sound. Many people dismiss this song as just a wacky pop one hit wonder song but The synth work on this song and other songs like Pebbles, "Mercedes Boy", are done so well that I never get tired of listening to any of them. In fact, Jane Child's 1st album where this song is a part of has amazing synth playing and sounds that were iconic 80s sounds. She was a very talented and underated artist. 👍

And this was how actually she looked. This wasn’t some pre-fabricated thing.
Truth
I saw her some years later with a more mainstream “normal” hairstyle and without the chained piercings and realized what a good looking woman she was.
Why on earth did she become a one hit wonder? She's so talented.
Rebecca Froehlich Ever heard her sing live? That’s why.
Because she fell in love.
Plus she only had 1 dance move.
Watch again and see.
🙌
that's a damn good question.
She didn’t become a satanist

I am and I'm loving it. LOL.
I am definitely!💯
The great thing about this era of music is, there was soo much real talent. Music like this isn't about your race. Its about who you are on the inside. And that resonates with other like minds. Especially when you are tuned into the right frequency.
Agree 💯 is she wasn't Fake she was true to herself as a individual.
She's awesome! Been on my playist for years!! White chick with the awesome cornrows and spiked hair! And awesome voice!!

Aaron Compton brooo same 😭😊
at least he likes the song 😂
Genius songwriting.
I remember hearing this song as a kid back in the early 90s. Around 5 years ago I heard it again on Spotify. Remind me of going into New York City with family during this era. Good times.
A VERY VERY underrated song and artist.
If you're gonna have one hit, make sure it SLAPS harder than Mike Tyson used to hit fools. 30 years from now, this will still slap.
Lol
true that!
100 Percent!!
Thank Teddy Riley. This is early new jack swing style music.
👍💪🎶🥁🕺
I hope Jane Child checks out these comments every now and then. We need her to dust off those keyboards and start making the brilliant music again that we know she is still capable of.
That makes two of us. If you do read this Jane greetings from Australia. I've been in radio for over 30 years can't believe any station In Australia didn't give this song airplay when It was released, I'm In between gigs currently but I tell you now that this song will be getting airplay on my new show when the opportunity comes up.
Using My Husband Acct. I so agree Yeeeessaaa !! Jane Come Back !!!
im still here so yah I check comments however I am out of ideas for music so wah wah
That's Chicago

Old Ney York
holy shit, i forgot how good this is.
Hehe Yup , U right
Yeah, a few years ago this came up in my feed here and it was the first time I had heard it in at least 20yrs.

She was what I used to call a "punk rocker!" I love it!!!!!!!!!
i jane childs first studio album she made back in the day
They dont make music like this anymore those were the days!
So no one's talking about the vibes in the music video? The random dancing the hair I love this music video
Me too!
I heard this song on the radio, thank you for uploading this video
1989
Love the song but her hair was trash.
What a great song. Does that young lady have soul or what?!
nope
only black people have soul

Bro somebody needs make a Time Machine. I need to hit the 80s and relive the 90s!
When Punk meets R&B Soul. Very well done! The 80’s was a mash up of raw talent. Today? Almost nothing sounds soo soulful heartfelt or original.
this song reminds me of phil collins- easy lover
@@7.0SLO Interestimg. Cool that you brought up the song, Easy Lover. That was one hell of a song from the 80's. Can't go wrong with Phil Collins fron Genius, and Phil Bailey from Earth, Wind and Fire. Takes me back to the days of Miami Vice. 🤓👍
Miss the 80's :(
So true.
Well, since there is no year 0 in the Gregorian calendar... Okay, I'll shut up now.
NYC in the 80's... nothing compares.

She was totally ahead of the times😍😊
And 80s fashion rocked. Sorry not sorry. Lol
I loved this song as a kid, but I didn't realize just how good it is and how talented Jane Child was until I learned to play music. Shout out to Kyle for sampling this for a song and bringing me back to it.
I never never never tire of hearing this incredible song. I bow down to Jane Child. DIVA.
We're not worthy
Her vibe is immaculate
Aaaand she wrote and played her own music!
She could've been the female Prince. She did it all.
A rarity in musical artists today.
Still one of the most iconic 80’s NYC song of all time! I was under 10yrs old when this song came out and I clearly still remember the lyrics and the nostalgic rhythm. Loved her fashion as a 10yr old too, thought she was so cool and different.
You weren't wrong tho. Even in retrospect, she still is very damn cool and different. Having never seen the video till today, this was kind of mind blowing. Im afraid to look her and and be let down, i kind of feel like nobody could keep up with what she put out in this song and video.
Iconic!! Lies come on now 🤡🙄

Jane Child always reminded me of the female answer to Trent Reznor in his "Pretty Hate Machine" era, also well ahead of his time. I get the same vibe/aesthetic/nostalgia from both.
This song is exploding with synth and drum machine excellence.
