The Cardigans’ sound is often described as an eclectic fusion of pop, rock, and alternative influences. Alongside catchy melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and lead vocalist Nina Persson’s distinctive voice, their playful approach has resulted in beloved hits like “Lovefool,” “My Favourite Game”, “Step on Me” and over 15 million sold albums - globally. Besides making their mark on the charts, their music has been used to enhance cult TV-series and movies like Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet, The Office and The Crown. Further enriching their legacy and solidifying their place in ’90s pop culture and beyond.
Lovefool Lyrics:
Dear, I fear we’re facing a problem
You love me no longer, I know
And maybe there is nothing
That I can do to make you do
Mama tells me I shouldn’t bother
That I ought to stick to another man
A man that surely deserves me
But I think you do!
So I cry, I pray and I beg
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Fool me fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
I can’t care ‘bout anything but you...
Lately I have desperately pondered,
Spent my nights awake and I wonder
What I could have done in another way
To make you stay
Reason will not lead to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don’t care if you really care
As long as you don’t go
So I cry, I pray, and I beg
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Fool me, fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me, love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
So I cry, and I pray for you to
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
I can’t care ‘bout anything but you...
Anything but you...
Love me, love me (Say that you love me)
Fool me, fool me (Go on and fool me)
Love me, love me (I know that you need me)
I can’t care ‘bout anything but you..

The fact that this is actually a heartbreak song because the singer begs for someone’s love and that her self esteem is so low, she’s even okay with him only pretending to love her....

I found my poor sweet big brother dead in his bed on 9/11/20. That was the most devastating day of my life. I don’t remember the first few days after. But the Sunday after I put on my brave face and went to clean out his room and get it ready to be emptied. For some reason the moment I opened his door this song came into my head. I hadn’t thought about or heard it in literal years but there it was strong and clear every note and lyric. I burst into tears with the perfection of how exactly it captured what I’m going through. Thanks Cardigans. My brother loved this song when we were teens. We both did.
I hope you're getting through it dude. I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing my sister.

I relate to this in some way. I've found my brother dead in his bed when he was 16 and I was 11 turning 12. It happened on July 5th 2001. Hardest day of my life. He and I absolutely love The 90s and early 2000s music. Every time a familiar song like this pops up I swell with tears because I know he's thinking of me too. I sure miss my brother.

This is one of 2 songs of theirs that I've heard of the radio for decades now, but I never knew anything about them or even what they looked like. You know how you have an image of someone in your mind and when you finally see them, you're disappointed? Well this song has been rattling around my head for a couple days now so today I finally decided to check it out on TH-cam. I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised. This doll is every bit as beautiful as I thought she'd be. It's just too bad that it took me so long to check them out.
After listening to more of their music, I'm impressed! Why did I take so long? I've robbed myself of their awesome music all these years!
This was on the radio 24 hours a day from 1996-1998.

Man this song made 2021 such a vibe in summer.
this song is about a girl who is in love with a man that doesn't love her back. she thinks of herself as a "lovefool" because she'd rather live in some wild fantasy of him loving her instead of accepting the truth. he doesn't love her.

is it me or does Nina Persson have a really underrated voice? She's never spoken about as "one of the great vocalists" but there's something really special about the way she sings
🤨
calming voice
She isnt a vocalist, she doesn't have a good technique nor a good range or anything alongside that. But her voice is very pleasant to listen to and her tone is sooo pretty
While this song is pretty good/catchy, in terms of vocal difficulty, it's a pretty easy/basic song to sing, with no drastic pitch changes, or high notes that would make it difficult to sing. Pretty much all vocalists that are considered great, are so because of their vocal range. This is pretty straightforward, basic singing.
@@zenpea2684 you can say that about many singers now a days (Clario) but they seem to have more success than this band and it's pretty sad. Now a days it's hard to sing this because of how she sounds and the high notes.

Been digging those drums and that voice since the beginning. Also that funky guitar
I was 19 when this came out and I was one of those snobby pseudo-intellectual shits who took the vast majority of what was current and/or mainstream for granted and wrongfully devalued it. I saw the video for this on MTV which was an immediate strike against it for me. The only new groups in pop music I liked at the time were Jamiroquai, Erykah Badu and the Roots. How I didn't like this is beyond me. It's brilliant on so many levels. This is a cautionary tale for snide young hipsters who discredit anything that comes out of a mainstream source solely on the fact that it did. It's no more valid to dislike something based on popularity than it is to like it based on popularity. Really listen to the music and ignore the politics.

Somehow, yeah, it seems I did. At least in regards to music.

I was born in '77. (Hiking up the trousers)
And yeah, in the '90s, as a teenager, i HATED 1980s music. However, I loved a lot of '60s and '70s music. But these days I have a long list of 80s music that I not only love but also know inside and out, musically.
I worked for years as a pretty gainfully employed guitar teacher and the only thing that kept me employed was my willingness to have an open mind and teach people anything they wanted to learn. It was a huge eye opener (or ear opener) to tons of music for me. I still play gigs and I get by in a relatively small college town by the same principle.

Mama tells me I shouldn't bother
That I ought to stick to another man
A man that surely deserves me
But I think you do
So I cry and I pray and I beg
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Fool me fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
So, I cry and I beg for you to
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you
Lately I have desperately pondered
Spent my nights awake and I wonder
What I could have done in another way
To make you stay
Reason will not lead to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don't care if you really care
As long as you don't go
So I cry, I pray, and I beg
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Fool me, fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me, love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
So I cry and I beg for you to
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you
Love me, love me (say that you love me)
Fool me, fool me (go on and fool me)
Love me, love me (I know that you need me)
I can't care 'bout anything but you

can't let the homies know i fw this.
Nina has one of the most unique and criminally underrated voices of any genre, all time!
Wait! Her name is the same as 99 luftballoons lady? 😳👍
No. 99 Luftballons is by Nena (which, technically, is the name of the Band as a whole and not just the singer).
@@cy-one a fair distinction. Thanks.
Funny thing to me is that this band is from Sweden
yeah I love old music sm. ❤
I was a kid when this song was a huge, worldwide success. I remember myself as a kid watching this video an thinking ''that girl is really pretty'' and now, more than 2 decades later, I still find the blue in those eyes deeper than the Baltic sea. One of the most catchy hits from the 90s, so fresh that people still enjoy it well into 2021...as the other day I realized in my job, when the radio started playing it and my workmates starting moving their heads at its contagious rythm.
Why you telling us? Tell HER!!
@@ramonraizo9844 I can't stop laughing at your comment! 😂 Damn right, though!

Awesome one hit wonder from the 90's ❤❤👍👍
I love The Cardigans and this song in particular brings up great memories of skating at the skating rink ...
*This* *song* *is* *a* *actually* *timeless* *masterpiece*
You have a beautiful face.
Agreed.
Absolutely timeless ....
how did u make txt bold
@@jacobsawley98 Put an asterisk on each end of the word or sentence you want to be bold.
Like this: * in bold * (but don't put the spaces in).
I love the visual fidelity of 90s music videos. Was it one particular camera that was popular around this time? The contrast/colour gives everything an ethereal, dream-like vibe. It's weird, I can never imagine people looking back on 2019 videos in 20 years' time with the same sense of nostalgia
The goat. Sony vx1000
Mac u described it so good
The 70s was not a decade of video most of the clips are patched into video but yes each era has is own look it also was dictated by how far technology would allow...
I could not relate to anything more!!!!! Great representation!
Was in college in the 90's and you are spot on. More forward and back motion almost like swaying. Also use of slight fishbowl effect lenses making a weird whimsical expanded effect. This style was used in a lot of the hip hop videos of that era as well.
I love this song! She's so desperately in love, it's so tragic and beautiful.
I was in Pre-K when this was a bop 😅 lol my aunt sang this song faithfully so much when I returned to daycare I was singing it 😂. WORLD OF LEARNING DAYCARE CARY NC, Great times ! ❤ Miss Carolyn and miss Michelle best teachers ever! Im 32 now and still remember them ....🎉
This song was a classic the moment it first aired back in the day. The haunting lead vocals and the infectious rhythm leaves me breathless every time I hear it. Brilliant
Agreed.
