I got 10,000 steps nearly every day. Even when I drive to work. Because I’m always on my feet at work. The only time I don’t get 10,000 steps. Is when I go cycling. sometimes it picks up cycling as steps but it doesn’t get as many. But it doesn’t really matter because cycling is good if not better than walking. Just because you’re not getting steps doesn’t mean you’re not healthy and not exercising. It’s just general movement. That’s the key
I've been walking for years now. Switched for the gym for a while and then the pandemic hit and the gyms closed - back to walking again out of necessity. I'd walk 10k steps a day for a while but soon enough it just wasn't a challenge anymore, so doubled it, and then some more. Today I can walk 40k steps without even feeling tired. I've never been fitter, not even after going to the gym for a decade, my glutes have miraculously grown, I feel strong and I am strong. Walking is the best exercise you can do if you have the time but don't like the gym, or aren't particularly fit - it's easy and free, and honestly - gives amazing results, and you do it to some extent anyway. Not to mention the mental health benefits and the sightseeing opportunities haha. I am back to the gym now because I can increase the intensity without needing much time, but still go for walks whenever I can - it soothes me and my body loves it
40 thousand? That must be close to 20 MILES. If you walk at four miles per hour pace - which is a fair clip - that is around FIVE HOURS walking. Wow. Rather you than me, as they say. I think I'll take the bus. The walk to the bus stop is enough for me!!
The problem is time. Not a chance I can fit 40k steps in when 10k is already a major issue time-wise. Cool if you're got literally no responsibilities or a treadmill under your fulltime job's desk, but I simply can't. I'd love to though, as it's great to lose weight, but I can't.
I do a 3 mile fast walk every morning with my dog. Yes, it's almost an hour out of my day, but it always makes me feel good to come home, have my morning beverage and enjoy the peace and quiet before the day really starts. And I don't have to worry about getting to my 10k steps, I'm active enough the rest of the day to get there. It has made me appreciate mornings so much, especially during this beautiful time of year.
Hello LT. I managed a 257 day streak. So I know what step anxiety is! The best way of dealing with it was to plan, every Sunday, how and when I’d get the steps in each day that week…Takes the thinking out of it. Love your videos btw.
Ok! This was all the motivation I needed. Not doing 10k, but am adding minutes to my daily walk so that I go out for a solid hour. Thanks, Laura, as ever.
As many commenters are saying it can be burdensome. I set myself a goal of 10,000 steps for month. One time after a busy day, and work drinks, I found myself running around the block before midnight in order to get the steps in! But the challenge was an eye opener for me re. the cumulative effect of many small choices. E.g. taking the steps instead of the lift, parking the car further away, walking to the shops, it all adds up. Visa-versa, sitting in your home office all day gets you very few steps indeed. Keep moving people!
due to my work I and been active. I do over 10000 steps a day. some days I reach 40000 and over. I work doing handyman and lawn mowing. keeps me fit and I love it. another great video.
Hi Laura ! I have been walking to work or coming back home walking for a few yrs already ( no matter the weather and in spring and summer back and forth= 12km ). I have muscle ache if I do not give my body this daily physical exercise. Covid and living in Paris made me even more motivated to avoid transports. Love your sunny personality.
Whenever I don’t feel like doing my hike or bike ride, I tell myself that I’m just a mile away from happiness! Like Laura, once I get out there, I’m happy!
Great to hear about your experiences! I've been aiming for the 10,000 steps a day for years now. My longest streak was 446 days, I then missed by ten or fifteen, which was really annoying. I keep restarting, because the benefits are there, even if I miss a day. There are so many walks that I wouldn't have taken without the 10,000 steps! Though I get a lot of steps during the day, I sometimes have to walk around the house to make up a few hundred, or even run on the spot! Still better than sitting on the sofa.
Love it. I get up every day and knock out five miles in 90 minutes. It’s something I’ve been doing since the beginning of the pandemic, and now I just can’t even imagine a day when I don’t start out walking at least 5 miles. It clears my head, lets me select music for my classes, and it’s peaceful. No gardeners, no dogs barking, no phones ringing. It’s my time. Then I rehearse two classes (another 90 minutes) immediately after my walk. I know it sucks getting up early in the morning, but once it’s a habit you can never do without it! Thanks for the video! I’ll be thinking about you tomorrow when I’m on my walk!
Just a tip, but you can have a run round the house or on the spot and it still counts. I mostly WFH and do it all the time just to get away from the PC. Neighbours see me having 2 minute jogs around the garden all the time😂
@@LauraTryUK as long as your feet are moving💃 I run every other day and it’s hard to hit 10k on my non running days unless I go into the office. I have to get creative to hit the number👍
@@jamiepike6909 - Totally agree you don't always have to go outside to get your step count up. Check out "Grow with Jo" on TH-cam, she does the most fun walking videos and also does partytime videos and she is a brilliant motivator as her 'walkouts' are so much fun to do, like working out with a buddy. Another way is to get a mini trampoline/rebounder. The bungee cord ones are best as they are silent so no squeaking springs. If you are working from home you can set a timer and get up every hour or whatever you decide and do 5 minutes exercise. I put on a favourite song and just bounce along to it as it's so much fun to do. Mines in the kitchen so when I stick the kettle on I have a bounce while I'm waiting for it to boil or if I feel a bit cold I do a quick 5 minutes to warm up as I'm trying not to put the heating on all day with just me at home. Rebounding is easy on your joints and is particularly good for us ladies as it helps to prevent osteoporosis by encouraging calcium production. It's also a good cardio workout, 5 minutes on it and you know you are alive. Another way is to get a ropeless skipping rope. They have counters on them and do feel like the real thing and the beauty is you can skip inside and not knock things over. You can easily build in short 5 minute bursts of activity throughout your day rather than trying to get 10K steps in all at once if you vary what you're doing. That way you don't get bored.
This was amazing!!!!! Wow, so cool to understand the history of the 10k step history. Those evening skies in some of the shots were absolutely stunning!! Step anxiety- my word, I felt that too!!! Again, super cool vide LT :)
My hubby and I have been watching all your videos and finding them super interesting. We love the content, the way you deliver the message and the way your videos are edited. Great work Laura! You’ve inspired me to do yoga for 30 days, followed by walking more each day (not quite 10,000 steps but it’s a start). 👍🏽
I thought this would be the result, given what you currently do. I’m lucky I have active dogs so I easily do 14000 steps a day, without running or other exercise. Something I’d suggest as well your first daylight walk, which as you know is super important for our circadian rhythm - get a walk in around midday - even if it’s 10 mins that’s half a mile. You get maximum sunlight for downloading at that time too (Vit D). Then your evening walk doesn’t need to be as long to get your steps in, and doing it around 5-6pm means you’ve the rest of your evening to relax 😊
I got inspired to do regular fasting (in addition to the intermittentfasting I already do), after watching your fasting video. Not so much inspiration from the cold shower/bath video...you can have that, haha. BUT, I may be picking up the steps now after watching this one. GREAT WORK!!
I watched your video of rowing the Atlantic, after I was searching for transatlantic sailing videos, as I will cross the Atlantic with a sailing boat very soon (and I'm quite excited). After this I clicked another one, and now I'm sort of addicted to your content 🙃( I started the 10k step challenge for myself yesterday 😉) Very inspirational and I'm looking forward to the new videos. Happy to announce that you are the first ever TH-cam channel I officially subscribed too🌻Greetings from Germany
Congratulations on your steps and on your edit. The edit is really impressive and I can see how much effort you put it in. I'm glad that I found your channel because is really inspirational and down to earth. :) Keep up the good work! :)
I am a carpenter, I’m on my feet, walking back and forth, climbing, crawling and always carrying something. When I cannot set up my equipment close to my work area I do get a kick out of seeing how many steps I’ve done and how many floors I’ve climbed. It helps when I’m puzzled as to why the job has taken longer than I anticipated, oh ya, I spent 2-3hrs just walking. Despite all that I still love a long walk. Glad to see Charlie is still hanging out with you, black cats are the best.
I have really strived to keep 10K steps a day as a baseline and I have found that it has been really supportive. Sometimes I have found it (mostly) effortless - like when I was commuting on bus/foot to work, and when the weather has been nice I was keeping above 10K a day about 80% of days. But in deep of winter, during full-remote work times, and other disturbances like illness, it has been challenging. Occasioanlly when I have been ill I have gone out and turned back because I was too sick, but I have never regretted going for a walk. I have found that walking is so great for my overall physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual health, as well as creativity. Love your videos! Thanks for sharing these. I have been inspired by your videos on fasting and IF, and I have already lost 5.5 KG of fat.
This was indeed challenging the first time I took part in a corporate challenge. When I attempted it and realised it takes time and is longer than I expected. But since then I was really stimulated to walk more. Loving this video, it highlights the usual challenges in this initiative!
This is brilliant, LT! Again your authenticity has been brilliant and inspiring. Keep up the great work. And a Vivobarefoot sponsorship?! Nice one, Laura! That's awesome. For anyone else reading, I'd highly recommend this brand - I own 4 pairs myself!
I’ve been wanting for this one! I totally understand step anxiety , I forgot my Fitbit today and was so upset! I did 85 days with 10k steps a day EVERYDAY but the step anxiety started to decrease the benefits for me after a while. Now I’ve been walking just one mile a day minimum everyday for the last 20 days and occasionally getting to 10k only if I’m close through daily rhythm so I don’t upset myself. Overall, I loved getting in my steps, it helped me wake up earlier and improved my sleep bc it makes you sooo tired if you aren’t used to much movement. I would definitely do it again I think 26 days is the perfect amount of time to get in the groove and it’s so cool seeing you do a challenge that I was doing too (I started mine a few weeks before first you posted about it!) thank you for sharing, have a great day!
d, I can relate to forgetting the fitness tracker. I climbed Ben Nevis a few weeks ago, my watch broke the day before, I was devastated because I couldn't track the climb 🤣 Thanks for your lovely comment.
That's interesting it originated in japan. I studied Suzuki piano as a child. We were taught it took 10,000 hours to master any craft. I wonder if that's where it came from
That was so cool to learn about the Manpo kei! It is tough for me to get 10k a day. My fitness isn't to that level yet. I went from a very active job to a sedentary work at home job, so I am needing to incorporate more movement.
This weekend I took the opportunity to do some walking with a 2kg weighted vest. Thurs = 30,500 / Friday = 22,500 / Saturday = 21,500 / Sunday = 30,100. Overall I walk with a 2kg weighted vest as close to 20,000 steps as possible whenever possible. Overall I am out for 5hrs minimum. I also I have a 3.5kg weighted vest so am at 8,000 with that so far.
Thanks for the video. I started working from home at the start of COVID (like most people in the world I guess) and to avoid depression and lack of exercise, I always start my day going on a 10k steps walk in the morning. Going to a coffee shop to read, study or just to a supermarket a bit further away then my usual one. On days off, I usually get between 30k-50k steps as I love walking to discover new places or just go trail running. The benefits for my mental health and to set up a good mood for the day were quickly visible. I also try to exercise everyday apart from that morning walk to get a bit more variety.
This is so cool that you did this. A few years back I also challenged myself to do 10000/day and figured out just how long it takes as well as the number of miles it covered for my stride. But I have to admit i too began to ‘stress’ a bit about achieving that daily, and actually it was a tad painful for my feet by the end of it. Part of that might be shoes but part of it was also that I would try to do all 10k in one go. Anything extra for the day was just extra. I really appreciate learning that the 10k number is based on marketing and not ‘science’. Thank you for that and for sharing your challenge. I found myself nodding a LOT along with you and laughing because I remember it so well. All that said, you’ve inspired me to get outside this beautiful California morning and get some light. Cheers 🥂
Petalyn, thank you for your comment 🙏🏼 I too was surprised that there was no real science behind 10k. But.... the study by I-Min Lee was very eye opening!
At work we did a 10000 steps for 100 days to get 1million steps. I found it really hard. I loved the lunch walks but hated having to walk again when I got home or walk around in my living room. I have long legs so I have to cover a big distance. I wasn’t first to a million but once I’d done mine, I’d walked miles further than everyone else in the challenge. Now I settle for a lunch walk and whatever else I get naturally from exercise and wandering about the house. Less stressful but still getting out.
Looking good, Laura Try! Great video. We walk here but never counted steps. I've always walked, never got by driver's license until late teens- a rarity in rural Canada where driving is a must. I walked. I only realize now- I just calculated- if I walked earlier thaodn the school bus back then-which I did occasionally- four miles- that was nearly 10,000 steps! That kid back then was insane! I walk less now, but I do enjoy a good walk. (After a mishap a couple of years ago, I had to learn to walk all over again! Who knew? It can happen.) I agree with your video comment it does take time for daily long walks and hikes. I also liked the good information on how many steps until diminishing returns. It is hard to get out sometimes, but I agree, once you're out there's a lot of rewards. Thank you for uploading.
I've been walking since last year, including all winter. There are times when I'm feeling tired or unwell, but most days I hit 10,000 plus steps. During the winter I was hitting 20,000 plus because of all the snow clearing that I was doing. Great job Laura!😊
What a great video Laura! Bit late to the party as I’ve taken inspiration from your social media detox and now only access content on Saturdays and Sundays :) This takes me right back to doing the challenge! I was in the middle of the arctic circle and more days than not would 100% not have gone out if not for the challenge. I didn’t always do 10k steps but I did always go outside and was always so happy I did. Was really nice to hear how the rest of the Tryers were getting on as well. Look forward to doing the next one with you 💪💪
I was a postman for over 30 years so I've had a belly full of walking! I dread to think how many steps I clocked up over those years. If I decided to attempt 10,000 steps a day, I would definitely do it during the summer months and likely spread it across the day, morning, afternoon, then evening.
wow-wee, imagine what the fitness tracker would have said at the end of the day. I always thought what a great job a post person must be - is it as good as I think Gary?
@@LauraTryUK I loved it when I started in 1980, but by 2010 I decided to take things easier, took redundancy, and went into security which is far more user-friendly on my legs!
Great goal nd honestly, I love that you are super transparent with this and how challenging it became. 10,000 steps doesn't seem like much . heck I don't even get that after 1 hour of running ! I am thinking I may have to try this exact challenge. Keep being you, i love your videos and challenges Laura !
The idea of exposure to morning sun and circadian rhythms make sense to me. Guess I'm lucky that I choose to do my workouts outside first thing in the morning, plus that extra bit of light in Winter (I think) helps ward off the SADs (Seasonal Affective Disorder) re: fitting in the 10K steps vs your usual workout(s), there is an early study where they had a look at what areas of the brain were affected/stimulated during exercise. They seemed to indicate that low-intensity exercise activated brain regions involved on cognition and attention whereas high-intensity activated emotion/mood regions. Early stage, small sample - but interesting. So going for a walk may help you with with getting that video edited, but high intensity may help to keep my mood balanced. No word on Tabata and whether that style does both. And yes - the step anxiety is real - working from home a lot over the last few years really drops the step count.
I'm glad you mentioned the issue of trying to reach 10,000 steps. It's not as easy as most people think. I just focus on walking instead for trying to reach that 10,000 mark all the time.
Have gone through this about 3 times in the last 5 years. The most successful was during the first lockdown 2 years ago, lost a lot of weight too on account of not eating breakfast till after the 5 mile walk at about 1pm (less calories per day) Every few days rode the bike for a couple of hours instead to break the monotony. The big down side to it is/was the repetitive scenery around where we live, once you have seen every street and walking track 50 or more times, it becomes a real chore. Do much better on holiday where we walk at least 3 hours a day absorbing the new scenery.
I totally agree about the change of scenery Stephen. I now enjoy a 10 or 30 minute keep around the block. I know it will not be 10k but it makes me feel nice.
I've never had a car and i live 15 minutes from the first ferry/bus stop/store/facility of any kind that's not a residential house, and then once you take a bus you have to walk some more to get around. I'd be curious to see how many thousand steps i walk in a day.
The challenge is really to do 10k every single day. On average, I manage that, but probably more because we like to go for a 20-25km walk almost every weekend. And since this year there is a new challenge, 100k steps (approx. 60km) in one day. I've done that once now and would like to do it twice a year and maybe get to 100km at some point.
I really enjoy the 10k step challenge. I think I've been doing it for about five years. I started this a couple of years after my last dog died. When I had a dog I walked it rain or shine twice a day so maybe I've done 10k steps for 40 years?? I don't know. But with no dog i needed a motivator. I am in a virtual group linked by Fitbit called the workweek hustle which helps me get my steps done during the week. And if I don't win (which is most weeks!) I take joy in others winning. It's mutual support.
Hi Laura, I have been a dog walker for almost 4 years now. I average 125000 steps a week and have my Garmin set at 16000 steps a day. Like you mentioned at the beginning of video I too struggle at weekends especially Sundays and during the winter months struggle some days to get 5000 steps in. Keep up the amazing work 👍
Thank you for the reply. Your videos are truly inspiring and much respect for the openness and honesty. Because of you I did buy the aftershock head phones as ideal for dog walking. Your review on Matt D’Avella youtube creator academy inspired me to enrol on the latest induction. Was to scared to do the December one 😂. In fact I used your channel as one of the 3 creators on page 23👍. It was inspiring to see how you have progressed in your journey. Keep up the amazing work and as always I will look forward to your future updates. Just wanted you to know how inspiring you are 🙏
Hi LT May be if you spend a long time on your laptop.... set an alarm to get you off your laptop every hour, so you can rest your eyes and pop out and walk a mile and get all the benefits during the day.... Or you could run 8 miles and hey presto.... 10,000 steps
Lauraaaa! What's goin on?! I know your bday post said you're busy but comeee on! We are missin your videos! Hope all is well - just been wonderin aboutcha
When I heard you were doing this challenge I upped my target steps from 8,000 to 10,000. But I wasn't making change a real priority. In May I got to the target about half the time. For June I'll target 3/4 of the days to meet the target. Thank you for your inspiration!
Lindsay, you are so sweet. I'm pleased you liked this video. If you enjoy doing the 10k steps then go for it, otherwise some morning sun and around 5-7.5k steps seem to be the magic number.
I'm 77 years old and walk around my village whenever I can force myself to _"be active and healthy"_ like I'm *supposed to.* Very impressed with all the comments about how that kinda stuff is "easy peasy" etcetera. But I can still lay bricks and mow the lawn, climb the stairs every day many times, so I suppose it's alright really.
I set my target as 5000 a day, because like you, I was finding it hard to reach 8000, let alone 10,000! So now I always pass my target and any more is a bonus, but any less means I need to go walk!! Sometimes I do a walk exercise at home from TH-cam, there are some good ones on here to get 4000 steps in 30 mins! ☺️
I Just checked my garmin connect and for last 4 weeks I made avg of 8261 steps per day. Without any challange. To be honest I work 3 days per week from home and I have a dog so I'm walking him out exchanging with my wife and sons.
I’m a 10,000 steps a day girl. Sometimes a chore but most days feel so much better for it. I’m with you on the mum killing your steps. My mums in her 60s and she will do about 12000 steps plus without going out of her way, how are they so active all day 🤷♀️
ahahaha, the bit about the mums made me laugh so much! And awesome work for getting your 10k steps in each day. I will take a walk later today after work inspired by your comment 👊 (8900 already and will make the rest up later)
I work from home mostly. I’ve gotten 11,000 step average the last year.. 10,000 the year before.. 9,000 the year before that.. I typically take three to four walks a day.. Usually a long walk right before work.. A shorter one after lunch.. A longer one right after work.. And a short one before bed.. I don’t typically think about the step counts.. Wherever I live I learn a few different walking routes that I really enjoy. Then I make sure to go for my walks at regular times. If I don’t take the walks I feel really out of sorts.
I used to have a job where I got 10k steps easy. Now I'm a SAHM (or will be baby hasn't been born yet) the lbs have packed on and I'm so out of shape. It's amazing how sedentary I can be at home. I have to start something for sure
I've binge watched a few of your videos and I have to say I LOVE your fashion style. You have a great style and I'd love to know where you buy your clothes. Keep up the great outfits! X
Love your content Laura, only criticism is that they are few and far between (understandable tho, so much work methinks!!!) any chance you could do one on skipping (jump rope) every day, it has amazing benefits and cheap for everyone. Regards
I get what you are talking about with the step anxiety thing! lol! Except for me, it was the 250 steps each hour. However, sometimes I wouldn't get all 9 hours with 250 steps each hour, but I would get in around 12,000 to 14,000 steps in that same day! LMAO! Sometimes, I feel like a real-life Giga Pet!
It makes it so much easier, if you get into the habit of just getting up and moving around, throughout the day. Just 10 minutes can be about 1000 steps, depending on your stride. One big walk is a lot, but broken up into movement over the course of the day (which is basically the purpose, to get moving and all the benefits of it) is much easier, and honestly, we should be getting up and moving around anyway. 😊
Great video The steps goal gets you moving I completed 10,000 steps a day for 373 days I was gutted when I forgot it on day 374 but also relieved I didn't have yo do the night time panic walks
Hello Laura, I hope you are doing well, its been a while since you posted anything. I know you are doing a break from TH-cam. But this is quiet long. 😁 Cheers.
You're definitely right, that for dog owners this challenge is much easier (20 years of experience) :-))) But for me, the challenge will start in 4-6 weeks and I'll celebrate a single step! I'm curious when I'd be able to hit 10 000 :-) The first milestone for me is 1000 steps in a row - that is a WALK! And the next one (very important) are 3000 - then I'm confident to take my dog back from my parents 🙂 (to put it in context....3 knee surgeries since September, most of the time on crutches). And besides my dog, I can't wait to be able to "go out", to the forest, away from work and computer - every single day.
Just gone back to work after some paternity leave ( hod bless nyc ) suddenly back to measuring steps. I do about 12000 on average as a hotel doorman. I consistently load sugar via chocolate through out my shift. I’m very fit but I’m mainlining chocolate to glycol to energy repeat. Arghhhh back to ItF. No food during shift. Tried the barefoot a for a while and immediately broke something off on the pad under my pinky toe. Standing and walking on concrete apparently was a bad idea. Back to my thick sole work sketchers.
I just try 5,000 steps on average - and get them mostly just by mowing yard & walking around house. Some days are more & some days are less, but trying to average 5,000.
I’ve just celebrated 2 years of 10 thousand steps every day) that’s great because I already can’t imagine my life without going out and without walking (and it appears that rainy walks are worse than winter ones when it’s even -15C) lol
As a nurse, I walk easily over 10,000 steps a day and do my workout routine. But when I am not on duty, I often barely hit 5000 steps. Maybe it's time to change that. :-)
10k steps a day is not easy. That is probably around 6 miles for me. If someone walks that much a day that is about 2 hours of walking. Not many have that much time to commit to something like this. I ran 2350 miles in 2020 and I averaged about 10k a day. It's a lot. 10k steps a day is not something to shoot for. Much better eating healthy at a deficit or at BMR and making small changes by committing to just moving more. Anything really, yard work. walking to the grocery store, vacuuming, walking up and down the stairs at home. 20 minutes of extra movement a day. As a society yes we might eat more these days but we move, just move so much less than we did 10,20,30 years ago. It's not our metabolisms that slow down that much, it's just up that do.
10k steps is the bare minimum I get daily while at work. I'm not trying to brag or anything but your comment and this video made me realize how blessed I am to easily be able to get it in. I thought I was doing terrible.
@@tristanbhampton444 you later doing great! I have a desk job and if I did not run out was active in some over way I say I would get maybe 5k steps a day.
Hey, 14k steps is a great average. I am hoping my long weekend runs (increasing distance as training for a marathon (kind of)) will increase my daily average.
I find going for walks very hard and to be honest quite boring. It never fails that I start to run instead even if I set out to go for a long walk. I just wanna get it over with. I like beach walks but I guess that’s more because the loose sand gets in the way of the running. As a uni. student I get in many steps daily because I’m always walking between the uni. buildings that are all over the city for lectures, meeting up classmates, getting lunch, lending and returning books etc. (I would get in less steps obi. if I invested in card for commuting but I’m too cheap for that, I’d rather invest that mone.) /Scandinavian
Love this! I got a pedometer for my dog to make sure he’s getting the right amount of exercise each day. It’s called pitpat, maybe it’ll work for cats too 😄
Right, I’ve been editing this video for aaaaages, I’m off for a walk around the block 🙃
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the edit tho..... 👌🏻
Seriously impressive stuff, Laura. Keep up the great work!
You could get a desk treadmill to help get in your steps. 🏃♀️ I love your videos. They have been a great motivator for me. ✨
Great editing Laura! 👏🏼
Great video! Your editing is so brilliant! Xxx

I am back to the gym now because I can increase the intensity without needing much time, but still go for walks whenever I can - it soothes me and my body loves it
MJ - 40k steps!! mega!
This comment is so inspiring, thank you!
I haven't missed a day. Started 1 January 2021, over and a half ago.
20 000 steps a day.
SPM - a 257 day streak?? that is awesome!!! 💪
Wow! What an amazing streak! Very inspiring 🙌🏽
Ok! This was all the motivation I needed. Not doing 10k, but am adding minutes to my daily walk so that I go out for a solid hour. Thanks, Laura, as ever.
Thank you Erika 🙏🏼
I work doing handyman and lawn mowing. keeps me fit and I love it. another great video.
a super cool job to keep active Timothy 🔨 🌱
40 k wow my highest is 20 k eqv to 9 miles I do that about once a week
Hey Joanna, I am starting to think I would benefit from a 'commute' 🤔 - a short before and after work as though I am walking to the office.
You must be fit as a fiddle ICR!
Just a tip, but you can have a run round the house or on the spot and it still counts. I mostly WFH and do it all the time just to get away from the PC. Neighbours see me having 2 minute jogs around the garden all the time😂
Jamie, this is so funny and now I imagine you running around your garden 😆
PS - does dancing in the kitchen count as steps?
Great video - excellent message... sitting here with a broken ankle and so excited to get walking again in a few weeks!
Sending healing vibes to you and your ankle! 💫
This was amazing!!!!! Wow, so cool to understand the history of the 10k step history. Those evening skies in some of the shots were absolutely stunning!! Step anxiety- my word, I felt that too!!! Again, super cool vide LT :)
who knew - the 10,000 was just picked from almost nowhere!
Go Lester!!!! I love my ice baths more than my steps 🤣
You do the steps, I will do the cold 🤣
I love how committed you are, it's definitely inspiring. Now that weather is better should be easier to follow you!
I watched your video of rowing the Atlantic, after I was searching for transatlantic sailing videos, as I will cross the Atlantic with a sailing boat very soon (and I'm quite excited). After this I clicked another one, and now I'm sort of addicted to your content 🙃( I started the 10k step challenge for myself yesterday 😉)
Very inspirational and I'm looking forward to the new videos. Happy to announce that you are the first ever TH-cam channel I officially subscribed too🌻Greetings from Germany
The challenge was an amazing experience and I encourage EVERYONE to try it.
Just fantastic, just saw your rowing across the ocean video. Have a wonderful week, from Henrico County Virginia
Hey Laura, hope all is well, missing your videos but wishing you well
Love my All Weather Vivo barefoot shoes. No more hip pain and so much more energy on walks and hikes. Great vid!
I love your commitment to your steps!
and SUPER COOL about the fasting - 5.5kg is incredible!!!!!!!!! 🙌🏼
What amount of time did that happen?
This was indeed challenging the first time I took part in a corporate challenge. When I attempted it and realised it takes time and is longer than I expected. But since then I was really stimulated to walk more. Loving this video, it highlights the usual challenges in this initiative!
This is brilliant, LT! Again your authenticity has been brilliant and inspiring. Keep up the great work.
And a Vivobarefoot sponsorship?! Nice one, Laura! That's awesome. For anyone else reading, I'd highly recommend this brand - I own 4 pairs myself!
thanks Michael!
I climbed Ben Nevis a few weeks ago, my watch broke the day before, I was devastated because I couldn't track the climb 🤣
Thanks for your lovely comment.
I also I have a 3.5kg weighted vest so am at 8,000 with that so far.
now this is very immersive Di!
Cheers 🥂
Petalyn, thank you for your comment 🙏🏼
I too was surprised that there was no real science behind 10k. But.... the study by I-Min Lee was very eye opening!
@@LauraTryUK ah! Thank you for the reminder. I’ve pulled it up and will read. (Just back from my walk now😉)
At work we did a 10000 steps for 100 days to get 1million steps. Less stressful but still getting out.
congratulations for doing the challenge - that is really impressive 💪
Hey Laura, long time no hear. I hope all is good. I look forward to your next instalment.
You are an inspiration to me... Thank you for giving a wonderful advice of just get on with it.
I've been walking since last year, including all winter. There are times when I'm feeling tired or unwell, but most days I hit 10,000 plus steps. During the winter I was hitting 20,000 plus because of all the snow clearing that I was doing.
Great job Laura!😊
super cool Apple Gal! especially the snow clearing part 💪
@@LauraTryUK Haha, not so cool when it involves shoveling every copy of hours lol 😆

What a great video Laura! Bit late to the party as I’ve taken inspiration from your social media detox and now only access content on Saturdays and Sundays :)
This takes me right back to doing the challenge! I was in the middle of the arctic circle and more days than not would 100% not have gone out if not for the challenge. I didn’t always do 10k steps but I did always go outside and was always so happy I did. Was really nice to hear how the rest of the Tryers were getting on as well.
Look forward to doing the next one with you 💪💪
I'm loving that you did a social media detox. Do you still stick to the weekend plan?
You're so inspiring Laura. I wish i was this motivated.
ahaha, thanks Rob. It helps it's my job. I would struggle otherwise, a lot!
Thank you. Much Love from the Philippines.
Thank you Kenneth 🙏🏼
Hope all is well Laura, sending positive energy for whatever you are doing. Missing your uplifting vids 😊
Hi where have you gone?
The step anxiety is real!! I didn’t even realised until you mentioned it 😅 It’s one of the reasons I stopped tracking! Xxx
Great question in the end. We will never know
Great goal nd honestly, I love that you are super transparent with this and how challenging it became. 10,000 steps doesn't seem like much . heck I don't even get that after 1 hour of running ! I am thinking I may have to try this exact challenge. Keep being you, i love your videos and challenges Laura !
I am pleased you enjoyed the video Heart Warrior. 10k steps takes up a lot of time for someone who works from home.
@@LauraTryUK I agree. and on cold weather days it is a lot harder to get outside ( Canadian Here ! ) I see you battled some elements too !
Very interesting video! Thank you for doing and sharing this challenge!
The idea of exposure to morning sun and circadian rhythms make sense to me.
Guess I'm lucky that I choose to do my workouts outside first thing in the morning, plus that extra bit of light in Winter (I think) helps ward off the SADs (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
re: fitting in the 10K steps vs your usual workout(s), there is an early study where they had a look at what areas of the brain were affected/stimulated during exercise.
Laura, where are you? I miss your videos. Hope you're okay.
I'm glad you mentioned the issue of trying to reach 10,000 steps. It's not as easy as most people think. I just focus on walking instead for trying to reach that 10,000 mark all the time.
I’m so happy that I have job, where I can go almost every day for a walk-teaching in the kindergarten 🙃✨ Congrats to your steps 👍🏻🤟🏻
Being half time retired I have loads of time to get in my 10k staps on my days off, on workdays I get pretty much enough steps anyway.
It's mutual support.
oh deb, this comment 💖 awesome work for keeping the steps in.
Keep up the amazing work 👍
you're a dog walker - how lovely 🤩and wow to amount of steps, it sounds as though by Sunday you need the rest 😆
Thank you for the reply. Your videos are truly inspiring and much respect for the openness and honesty. Because of you I did buy the aftershock head phones as ideal for dog walking. Hi LT
May be if you spend a long time on your laptop.... set an alarm to get you off your laptop every hour, so you can rest your eyes and pop out and walk a mile and get all the benefits during the day....
I have averaged 13,000 steps per day over the past 12 months, but I have 2 dogs so it’s easy, I don’t even think about it. 😎
I expect it is easier with dogs. 13k steps a day average is mega!
I'm 77 years old and walk around my village whenever I can force myself to _"be active and healthy"_ like I'm *supposed to.*
Very impressed with all the comments about how that kinda stuff is "easy peasy" etcetera. But I can still lay bricks and mow the lawn, climb the stairs every day many times, so I suppose it's alright really.
Go Dav! It's all about daily movement and now I do not worry about hitting 10k.
@@LauraTryUK Thanks for the encouragement Laura, I love your program, and am inspired to keep myself mobile 😃
i hope some day i will be as strong as you im currently 20 and studying and i feel really weak but i never give up
I set my target as 5000 a day, because like you, I was finding it hard to reach 8000, let alone 10,000! So now I always pass my target and any more is a bonus, but any less means I need to go walk!! Sometimes I do a walk exercise at home from TH-cam, there are some good ones on here to get 4000 steps in 30 mins! ☺️
This became my favorite channel , i ve been pretty down lately because i ve been so lonely but you gave me motivation to enjoy myself again .
Hope you r better and happier now ❤😊
I Just checked my garmin connect and for last 4 weeks I made avg of 8261 steps per day. Without any challange. To be honest I work 3 days per week from home and I have a dog so I'm walking him out exchanging with my wife and sons.
Hi LT, pls do a challenge or video that will include your mom. She seems lovely and inspiring. 10k steps at 70+ kudos to her!
now this is a good idea - I wonder if I could find a video idea 🤔
Laura...where have you gone? We have not heard from you in a while. Are you ok?
I've binge watched a few of your videos and I have to say I LOVE your fashion style. You have a great style and I'd love to know where you buy your clothes. Keep up the great outfits! X
I hope everything is alright. It has been a while since a new upload. Much Love from the Philippines.
Did the steps help with the back posture?
Hey, I am not sure about posture. I am sure it had a positive affect though.
I recently did that challenge and it's takes up about 90mins a day. It wasn't easy apart from the pub crawl when I managed 21000 steps. That was fun
lol to the bit about the pub crawl - so so funny!
Great video
The steps goal gets you moving
I completed 10,000 steps a day for 373 days I was gutted when I forgot it on day 374 but also relieved I didn't have yo do the night time panic walks
I have 3 kids, they get me 10k steps a day in! Love the vid Laura! Xx
Walking is underrated. I have arthritis and walking is more manageable for my joints. It’s so good for your mentality too ❤
Hello Laura, I hope you are doing well, its been a while since you posted anything. I know you are doing a break from TH-cam. But this is quiet long. 😁

OMG! STOOOOP!!!!!!!!!!! YEEEEEESSSS!!!!!! 💖 🥹
Best of luck to you Kristyna!
@@debzeb6899 Thank you 😊 I just have a different perspective
I wish you happy healing Kristyna 💫
Miss u LT hope your are ok and working on the next big thing! Xx
Where did you go? Still active on TH-cam?🤔
Hi Laura, where can I watch the island survival video? Keep challenging ✌️
Hey Chippy, it isn't made yet, coming soon though.
This is very impressive indeed!!!!!!!! Congratulations for passing 2 years.
@@LauraTryUK thanks a lot! Now my goal is regular (or even daily) sports… so thanks for motivation
As a nurse, I walk easily over 10,000 steps a day and do my workout routine. But when I am not on duty, I often barely hit 5000 steps. Maybe it's time to change that. :-)
OK FINE!! And it seems like you're a morning person too. I like to have my days work by noon. Anything I do after that is pure gravy
@@tristanbhampton444 😂😂😂😂😂
Hi LT. I 'average' 14k steps a day, but I don't always get 10k a day in... My Sunday long run bumps up that average to be honest. love your videos.. 😀
Hey, 14k steps is a great average. I am hoping my long weekend runs (increasing distance as training for a marathon (kind of)) will increase my daily average.
Wow love this so amazing and yummy :) great work
I find going for walks very hard and to be honest quite boring.
Your mom is adorable! 😊
isn't she! A little smug when she knows she gets higher than me, still adorable 😆
Love this!
I got a pedometer for my dog to make sure he’s getting the right amount of exercise each day.
It’s called pitpat, maybe it’ll work for cats too 😄
oh stop - are you serious??? 😆
It's too adorable if you are.
