    Notes about this video:
One thing I didn't mention in this video is my VO2 max (the amount of oxygen my body can uptake during exercise, I think) increased from 48 to 49. Only a one-digit increase but a great one all the same.
I still do 3 runs per week and continue to enjoy the benefits of this challenge - I just put my trainers on and head out the door rather than putting it off.
This challenge really did help me fall in love with running again.

That's a great outlook. I'm trying to get back on the horse after 2-3 years of heath (cardiac) issues. After experiencing not being able to walk up the stairs, I want to be someone who can run again. So what if I'm not 16 anymore and it is a longer fitness curve: Having the capability is a blessing!

P.s. I'm pretty slow and have horrible stamina (😥) but I know I can work back to running fitness if I just make myself get out there. Now that I've been medically cleared, I know it will feel so amazing eventually to be in shape again

I did 5k 366 days in a row last year (it was a leap year]. During this time we had the pandemic and my dad passed away honestly say if It wasn’t for the running I would have really struggled mentally to process everything. Last year I never got sick or got injured. This year I have not done much running and so far I picked up every cold and bug going except COVID. I have had more injuries this year and struggled more mentally. Safe to say I will be returning to running everyday.

Perfect performance. The reason you may have been slower on the last day is that you were simply tired. 30 days in a row of running is a lot. You need time to recover, so not run every day. Muscle repairs during rest days and only then gets stronger. Amazing effort.

The point you make about being grateful is really important. I'm just getting back into running and I sometimes feel frustrated that my fitness has dropped so much since I was previously into it. I have to remind myself that many many people can only dream of what I take for granted.

I have to say that this video was very refreshing from all the other running content on youtube. Rather then focusing on the stats and how much you improved in running over the month, I thank you for focusing more on how it made you feel and the benifits you found from it. I find that so much fitness/ running content can be very data driven and this video just had your love of running come through it

    • @LauraTryUK

When I lost 100 lbs, my alarm clock trigger a habit of lacing up and walking 20k steps on my treadmill. Doing the work before I woke up prevented my mind from talking me into procrastinating. I believe it's very important to bypass my brain by setting up unthinking habits that took me in the right direction.

@@edwardpittar648 I've gotten slack and let 30 pounds come back. Nevertheless, I am now trying to maintain a schedule of 120 mins walking / 30+ mins running on even/odd days. I started ignoring weight when I went chasing after a sub 30 minute PR in a 5k race. I hit it this summer and need to pivot again to weight control. When I was really intense about weight loss I didn't run at all, but walked 20k+ every day.

What you said about running has resonated with my own thoughts. It’s really hard to get started but feels so good when done. Running always makes me feel better and I truly believe has helped me stave off illness. Have had one mild cold in three years, no flu, and avoided covid(while working a covid unit without proper PPE). I’m a lot slower than you (average 12 min mile) but also 16 yrs older than you. Speed is not my objective but that I’m out there getting my heart rate up. Thanks for the motivation.

Congratulations, Laura! I'm on day 10 of a 30 day challenge and loving it (most days). One benefit I didn't anticipate is that it's very difficult to end your day and feel it was wasted as long as you accomplished the run! Another benefit is that I am finding better regularity in other activities and normal chores. I may continue running daily after this challenge, but perhaps not a 5K everyday. We'll see.

Thank you for this. I was a very keen runner but changes in lifestyle, work and other things have meant I’ve neglected it. Also I had some running goals I wanted to do in terms of events and a ticked them all off and lost my motivation. Trying to get back into it at the moment but needing to find different reasons to run. I need to remember to run because I love it. Great video.

I'm actually really surprised by the small changes in body weight and body fat.
I expected much more, but it just goes to prove that lifting weights is the best way to lose weight and gain muscle.
Well done though, I really need to get back to working out and this video was a good source of inspiration 👍

So motivating!! Ive started running again and just did 5k for the first time in ages....and not because I should but because I genuinely enjoy it! Im in my mid 30s and although I like sports, Ive never really pushed myself too much in my life...but as Im getting older, I´m getting more curious to see what my body can do. I´m about 10 minutes slower than you are but my other goal is to stop comparing myself. So right now Im just celebrating having done 5 k in the pouring rain! :D

You are adorable, humble, unpretentious, and supremely watchable. I got a treadmill this year because health and life issues make getting outside for walks just an unrealistic goal that never happened. I started using it and really started to love it, but again, health issues keep getting in the way and I can't seem to get more than a few days in without having to take a week's pause. Today, after not doing it for five days, I am sitting here trying to get inspired to hop on again. This video has done it for me. Signing off and getting on that treadmill. Thank you so much!!
(and by the way, 5k takes me about 50 minutes so I am super impressed and see nothing but absolute success in your times!)

Brilliant 🤩 I started walking at 6am on the 17th of September 21 , some interval running included. 4 weeks flew by , now I’m doing 3 days walking with callisthenics the others , rest on weekends. Healthier eating I’m down 1.5 Stone . As a man of 45 I’d hit a lethargic time of inactivity. I needed a change and walking is the perfect tool to kickstart yourself. Sitting on my bum enjoying watching someone else confront their internal negative dialogue. +++ "As per the usual, I've come back feeling pretty good considering how rough I was feeling when I went out." I have exactly the thoughts you describe before pretty much every training run or ride. I cannot remember ever finishing a session and thinking "well I wish I hadn't done that". I'm always chuffed I did it and feel better for it. And yet I STILL struggle to make myself start! I can't count the amount of times I've planned to get up early for a pre-work run or ride, and so many times I just turn the alarm off and get that extra hour. And I never feel good doing that. Brains are annoying....
I do however commute by either running, or cycling every single work day. I've made that an absolute must. I feel so lucky to be able to live somewhere, and work somewhere, that means I can do that every single day. And it does my mental health wonders. It's just 25minutes, so rain snow or horrible wind, I can still do that for 25minutes each way.

Laura, you beast! I love all the challenges you submit yourself to. Great videos. Happy to spend 15min of my time watching it all, which days a lot for someone with ADHD. 😉
I do however have a tip for upcoming 30 day challenges: wait 4 days after the challenge has ended before you do your results tests.
I always overdo it when I start training, get super depressed about not improving my speed or strength. Then at some point have to take 3 days of because of work, my own illness or sick kids, holidays or whatever... Then when I go back to the exercise thinking I'll be all weak I'm stronger than ever!!! Do NOT underestimate the power of rest. Especially before a max test / race. Sooo curious what you time would have been if you'd rested for some days. Both for the 5km and the max rep pushups.

    • @LauraTryUK
      @LauraTryUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Anna-Lee, it is so great to see you here 😍 thank you so much for commenting, and also for watching the whole video!
Your advice has been taken on board, thank you.
For this challenge, I did do a little taper. And for the push-ups I took 2.5 days off before the re-test.
and since then have done a max 5k and max push-ups but with no significant difference. 30 days isn't enough and for someone who is endurance rather than strength/speed (I'm high in slow-twitch muscle fibres).
But the challenges did help me find some love for the exercises.

This is so great honestly to see how you felt. I always thought I'm just not made for a healthy lifestyle because exactly like you said, despite the obvious benefits and good feeling from it I sometimes really struggle to get going. But to see that it's just what it's like for everyone give me motivation to just accept that feeling and the need to overcome it. I think it's the body just naturally seeking "comfort", but it's not really comfort and ends up as the cause for the unhealthy, passive, western lifestyle. It felt to me (and society tells me that..) that it wasn't right to "push" myself to sport and I should just "rest" (i.e. be inactive) when I don't feel like it, but now I think it's just natural to have that resistance for a bit. Thank you so much for being open and not just another "yay this is so awesome" motivational talk, and being open and also very specific about how it felt :)
