    First of all... AMAZING work you are doing, its really amazing. and thank you for sharing. But about the boats they didnt fear the boats would breake, but the davits, as james cameron noticed when the same company that did the davits for the Titanic, provided him reinforced replicas, even tho the replica boats used in the movie were fiberglass, more light than the original ones, and the davits were actually thicker and reinforced, the davits shaked a lot, even during the filming they were afraid they would bent spilling the boat with the extras. Another thing was people that night at first didnt want to get in the boats (boats back then were dangerous and it was very cold) many people had to be convinced of forced to get on the boats at first, and they eventually were launched even half full, if they wouldnt have done it that way, as per the time it takes to launch each boat, they wouldnt have had time to lauch and possible a few boats wouldnt have been launched at all and would have been attached still to the ship when it sank, also that was tested by james cameron the launching times of the boats, corroborated by the real sinking were actually the last 2 boats werent launched they floated away from the deck. And Again Thank you very much for your videos.

    The "how to" presentation, as always, is very well done. Nora's voice over detailing the boat's specifics was the icing on the cake... nicely researched and very informative. Couldn't ask for a better video!

    For fine rigging, look into silk suture thread. You can pull out very fine strands for small linea. Before you glue any lines in place, wet the silk, stretch it out and let it air dry. I hope this is something you can use. Merry Christmas.

    my understanding was that the life boat stantions were to be folded in half, thats why they only had detail on one side. the idea was that they sloped to the outside and allowed the boats to simply swing away from the stantion and did not allow the boat to tip inwards. thats also why they were chained back towards the deck just inside the life boat railings.

    Are the KA-Models davids photo etched? They look like castings or 3D-printed. Couldn't find any information online. Needless to say: impeccable work as always. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a great 2023!

    Great Job Ben..I will be using these tips in my build..so helpful. I was researching in RMS Titanic: A Modelmaker's Manual
    by Peter Davis-Garner and he mentioned that the side of the lifeboat facing the sea had the Titanic nameplates to stop then being robbed, while the side facing the boatdeck had the Liverpool nameplates.. Just wondering...Anyhow have a Happy Holiday and New Year. :)

  • @adhuot01
    @adhuot01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ben, I keep putting off adding the lines that drape between the davits over the life boats because every time I try, I can't get a natural sag/hyperbolic curve you would see from gravity on that size rope. I'm using the orange label uni-thread. The thread is so light, it won't sag properly. I've even tried fabric starch with no success. How much slack did you leave and did you have these issues? I'm considering leaving them out at this point.

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t recall there being much sag but it’s been a minute since I looked at the pictures. You could just cut it a little long, glue both ends in, then skim some CA glue over the line and shape it how you want.

    Check out the ship magnificent boats section. ! The welend chocks are used as a single, inboard or outboard location. Only one is used, to prevent the boat swaying. A life boat would not be stable set on the chock like that. Not being awkward, just something i saw in the books photographs.

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The life boats are about 2.5cm long… so you can take a guess at the davit size.

  • @bazzeralone

    I think maybe the rest for the boats to sit in were a little too high, which made the photo etch ending up too long and bending up slightly. Also the Lifeboats had a little oval plaque at one end with the boat load plate on it ( See page 554 of Titanic The Ship Magnificent: Design & Construction). Plus the Boat number just to the right of the flag emblem. See also Peter Davies-Garner RMS TITANIC a model makers manual which I believe you have, on page 133 which deals with the Life Boats.

    Ben, do you think it is logistically possible to install my life boats before I install my KA funnel rigging? I'm worried about the delicacy of the funnel rigging after installing.

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you can do that. It’s all about you knows where you’re going to be putting your hands and fingers while building the kit. Whatever order creates the lowest chance of you breaking something off that you’ve already installed, is the way to go.
