Nice tricks. However adding crop bars is the wrong way to achieve that aspect ratio. Your sequence dimensions should be set to the ratio you're going for. For example for a 2.39 : 1 ratio your sequence settings would be 1920 x 803. For a 2 : 1 aspect ratio your sequence settings would be 1920 x 960.
If you just add crop bars then your aspect ratio is still only 16 : 9 so when your video is viewed in TH-cam cinema mode for example you are still seeing the black bars. If your sequence was correctly set to the 2.39 : 1 ratio then the entire area would be filled when viewing in TH-cam cinema mode.
I've recently just learnt this so just passing on some constructive info.

There is a video going around that (wrongly) tells you never to use black crop bars, but instead to always edit in the native finishing aspect ratio. There are sometimes reasons to do it that way, but by far the most common practice in the professional side of the industry is to edit in a standard 16:9 container. There are reasons I can go into if you like, otherwise just trust me lol. In the export process you can set the frame size to whatever you like eg: 1920x804 (always use even numbers btw - some codecs don't support odd numbers, and also it will resample your image in order to keep it precisely centred so you'll lose sharpness).
Good video btw man. One of my fave simple transitions. :)

Wait something is not rught. You seem like a professional and skilled film maker but your wearing your cap the right way. I'm skeptical now

I had this little reel in my head of how I wanted a sequence to look, but didn't know how to do it, nor what it was even called. "Speed ramp." This video is so clear and helpful, and I learned a few more awesome techniques along the way. Thanks so much for this!

Started using the blade trick just recently vs manually slicing them... but the motion blur and zoom layer effect is so damn KEY! thanks for the tutorial!
