INSANE! Seriously INSANE. This is so easy and the outcome is so good. Combining focus pull and scaling it in post if one of the best tricks I’ve seen till date.
Woah that glass lighting. I've seen things like that done before, but it dawned on me this time: it's giving the light texture. Never thought I'd say light has texture, but that's exactly what you're doing. That's actually such a huge tool in your arsenal if you're dealing with boring objects.
It would have been way easier if you just painted the wood picks with some cyan blue acrylic ink. That's what we would do. Just 20 or 30 seconds to paint it and no need for manual masking adjustments. Also, it would be better to film the tomato closer, to take advantage of the biggest resolution possible. Besides that, great video and awesome tips! Cheers :)
I agree with the last part. But one of the biggest things in all his videos is budget. Masking is free and won’t take more than a couple minutes. Buying paint is not. But if you do have then that’s a good idea
@@FilmVisionSTU Well, we would agree with you if he was talking about using a cheap smartphone and any improvised colored wall to do the job, of course, but it's not the case. A Cyan Acrylic Ink Tube (or green, if using green background) would cost you like 2/3$ (if that much) in any utilities store, and could be used for other filming opportunities as well. In this particular case it would take you just some minutes to mask, since a tomato is circular and the clip is short, but in other scenarios could take an hour or two, depending on the shape of the object and final duration of the video, so we guess it's still a good suggestion for anyone willing to spend that little money (Starbucks costs you double and serves earthy flavoured coffee, this would be worthier 😂)
This is a great technique. When it comes to 3D objects, I've always opted for filming them instead of creating them from the ground up. I have an entire asset library I've created over the years featuring all kinds of products... Everything from foods to toys, jars, etc. Great video Daniel on showing the masses how to incorporate this technique into their videos! 🤙🤙
For these things I think youtube is extremely useful. Daniel has given a masterclass in less than 10 min and when I studied, my teacher needed a week to explain something similar in after effects. (year 2014). Faster, more dynamic and above all effective.
A tip on the zooming of the tomato to make it more real, is to have the zoom ramp un instead of it being smooth, when objects fall they start falling at a relative low speed and then slowly gain speed,.
What an awesome and handy technique! I think the rotation made it look a bit weird but that might have been due to the fact the center point wasn't exactly in the middle of the tomate which made it rotate in a strange way but otherwise this looked really convincing. Thanks for sharing this Daniel!
@6:01 - FCP keyboard shortcut nugget: instead of blading your clip then deleting the unwanted portion, highlight your clip and place the playhead where you want your clip to end. Then press option + ] and it will simply remove everything behind the playhead in the clip. Likewise, pressing option + [ will remove everything in front of the playhead in the clip. #timesaver
As always, as always - King of simplicity. People will follow their 👑 and will learn new methods and earn their first real money! Thank you for your perspective!
I got cocky and thought, 'Oh he's just gonna mask it' and nearly didn't watch the rest of the video- so glad I did because the finishing touches were awesome. Great vid
I somehow stumbled on one of your videos and have found myself watching more and more of them, not only are you very talented, but you share your knowledge with others. These are quite inspiring for people interested in design.
Bro you are insane I can't believe this I'm always learning something brand new on your channel! honestly I just clicked on this video just because I like watching your tutorials but it always amazes me how satisfied I get after watching your content. You are a genius
WOW. What the HECK dude! I've just began pursuing videography and I quickly stumbled across your channel. You are SUCH a huge inspiration Daniel. That is insane. I learn something new everyday because of you. Very cool, can't wait to see more.
Holy! I don’t even edit product videos but this is amazing! You’re a very generous content creator sharing this gems! If I thought about this I’m gonna keep it to myself lol.
You are a true master at conceiving cheap techniques with a great rendition, and with little cost. Unlike lots of videomaking youtube channels that are a lot about buying expensive gear, and you are a true inspiration for trying to find techniques when you're a small budget one man team like me, thanks from france. By the way, in french we say "Zed" too, maybe it comes from the french side of Canada ;)
Damn u are a genius and I really really love that u show that you can do great shots without the most expensive gear. Man I am such a groupie of yours. Your content helps me since YEARS
Daniel, I don't know if you even noticed but another selling point to this animation was when the tomato was rotated toward the light it had the same colour temperature on the water part as the sun light that was coming from the window. Your insane dude as always haha.
Love it. Probably should have mentioned frame rates though if you're going to be slowing down a clip. Film your tomato in 60fps or higher so you can slow the clip down without it becoming choppy. I cannot believe how good the end result looks.
INSANE! Seriously INSANE. This is so easy and the outcome is so good. Combining focus pull and scaling it in post if one of the best tricks I’ve seen till date.

I think masking works just fine in this vid. But because my editing software isn’t very good and I can’t mask in it I would definitely paint the stick
This is a great technique. When it comes to 3D objects, I've always opted for filming them instead of creating them from the ground up. I have an entire asset library I've created over the years featuring all kinds of products... Everything from foods to toys, jars, etc.

The idea of reversal from the fact that out-of-focus is a bad thing is wonderful!!
Didn't think that this would actually work that well. But Daniel is a master at work, he proved it once again.

Weyy! Didn't seeing this adding up until u put the blue screen tomato on top the other clip... This is amazing!
The creativity is blowing my mind right now
Daniel, you demonstrate some great techniques, and I really appreciate that you champion FCPX instead of that other subscription service.
