      I have to say that the wet sanding made is so much easier to get the really good results, I find that easier than multiple polishing rounds through different grades of polish and pad.

      I am as shocked as you are there I have to say, that quality control is terrible. There were runs in the paint that I addressed too, just didn't film it as I couldn't get a good angle.

      That was definitely the owners question too, it even went back once to be sorted out. The bodyshop got really arsey about it as well apparently, saying it wasn't that bad etc etc. The owner said he was an older guy and the owner wondered if this guy's eyesight wasn't good enough anymore. Those "before" shots were mostly before I'd washed it as well!
      I still can't believe how good that Forces Rotation polisher is btw, the cut is unreal.

    Excellent work, very impressive and so pleased for the owner, the bodyshop work was completely unacceptable. Well done getting it back to as it should have been in the first place 👍👍👍

      @SuperchargedLlama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks dude! The owner took my fees out of what he paid the bodyshop, and the bodyshop guy was outraged and couldn't believe how much it cost...which is because they'll just mop it with a rotary, wool pad and cutting compound that's full of fillers (or not at all in this case, the ultimate irony is that there's no buffer trails or holograms).

      Very very nice work on the M3, I've not tried any wet sanding myself but going by the result you achieved I may give it a try.

    • @SuperchargedLlama
      @SuperchargedLlama  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@markmoore6264 definitely not a thing to be scared of. I watched a few videos on apex detailing that gave me the confidence and I've never looked back. Not much pressure is the key, letting the sanding disc do the work, and for your first time you could easily just have a play with a 3000 grit disc so you get a feel for it, but without really taking it back much.

    Wow! What a result, fantastic! I’m just about to attempt my first machine polish on my MX5 (soft paint) to try and remove some swirls and holograms. I’ve been given 2 recommendations, to use Angelwax Regenerate with a fine pad or Dodo Juice Lime Prime (pre wax cleanser) with a polishing pad. I know it’s difficult to generalise, but what would you suggest? 👍😀

    • @SuperchargedLlama
      @SuperchargedLlama  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd personally go for the Dodo Juice option, because I've used that and completely get the suggestion. The polish in this case is effectively a lubricant for the pad, and it's the pad doing the polishing, not the product (usually a combination of the two, and it still will be, but Lime Prime Lite has very little cut to it at all, but it is lovely).

      Between that puck and the foam backing of the X-Cut discs means you don't need an additional interface pad.

    When you're measuring, what exactly is being measured? People talk about clear coat, is that a generic term for whats on the metal or is the clear coat just what's on top of the black paint? I'm sorry for what may be a stupid question.

    • @SuperchargedLlama
      @SuperchargedLlama  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no such thing as stupid questions when it comes to this, people only ask things they don't know!
      The paint thickness guage, this case at least, reads the total thickness of material on top of the metal (and it does need to be a metal, they can't read on plastics). Which you may think isn't that useful of a reading, but there's a general understanding that, in the industry, there's a fairly consistent range in which factory paint will sit, and the updated NxtDiag app actually says if it thinks the panel has been painted due to the volume of paint it is reading (but it's still working off the traditional thresholds that you'd know yourself).

    Do you have any thoughts on Koch F6 vs Scholl S20 as a one step? Seen you use H9 in another video so wondered if there was a reason you don’t use F6 too
    I used S20 on a LC orange SDO pad and it really struggled on my 2015 golf GTI but did ok when stepping up to a wool pad
    Do these pads offer significantly more cut than the LC Orange?
    Many thanks!

    • @SuperchargedLlama
      @SuperchargedLlama  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question! The answer is mundane actually; I've used S20 for ages and I've never really had a problem with it, so I stick with it. It gets the results I like and I've worked out how to get the most from it. Not working it too hard is definitely one thing you must do, so not doing too big an area (3 pad widths square as a guide, and no more than 4 passes).
      Different paints respond differently to different pads too, and then the materials they're made of also impacts how they react. But to answer your question as to whether wool provides more cut? Always. And it cuts differently too I find. It's not that one is better than the other, more that one may suit your style or your paint more.
      As for why I use Kock H9? It's broadly considered one of the cutting polishes, and S20 is broadly one of the best one steps.

    Awesome job 👌🏻
    Can I ask what pads you would recommend for “average” swirl removal from my bmw using my DA polisher and the S20 that I already have?
    Thanks in advance 😁

    • @SuperchargedLlama
      @SuperchargedLlama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question. I always start from the Rupes Yellow Foam and work from there, because that always corrects with S20 Black to some degree. If it was stuff you knew was hard paint then I'd go with the Uro Fibre Buff and Shine 50/50 pad.
      There's links to the Rupes Yellow in the description of this video, and once you're on In2Detailing you'll be able to find the Uro Fibre (might be called Buff and Shine) on there too. But the Rupes Yellow Foam with S20 will always achieve something, and I've yet to see it leave any real hazing.... although Jaguar Land Rover paint is so painfully soft that it isn't as effective there (it does potentially need refining if you were on a longer throw DA or a Forced Rotation one, but it seems okay on a DA8 or Das6 Pro)

      @@paulstorey8999 you're very welcome. If you follow my link I get a small kick back, it's a way of supporting the channel, but I completely understand if there's another retailer you may choose to use, Rupes pads are stocked by loads of vendors 👍 it's the DA Fine pad you want, as opposed to the other yellow pad they have (which I believe is designed more for rotarys), it's the DA one I have linked to.
